CBS: Stewart-Colbert Rally Is For 'Moderates'

By Mark Finkelstein | October 30, 2010 | 10:11

A  A

mod-er-ates: [noun] Fans of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi -- The CBS Dictionary

It would be funny if it weren't so outrageous . . .

CBS is trying to pawn off the rally organized by Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart—the guy who had Barack Obama on his show for for a half-hour this week—as a gathering of "moderates."

CBS correspondent Wyatt Andrews used the m-word to describe the assembling masses in his report on this morning's Early Show. View video after the jump.

Newsreader Whit Johnson introduced Andrews.

WHIT JOHNSON: Well today the nation's capital is bracing for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.  It's been organized by Comedy Central's Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.  There are sure to be some laughs, but their ultimate goals remain unclear. CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews is live from the National Mall with more.  Wyatt, good morning.

WYATT ANDREWS: Whit, good morning.  Stewart and colbert actually have a permit for 60,000 people to rally for sanity and/or fear. So, who's appearing on the stage today is still part secret, but we're told it's going to be entertainers and not politicians. Who's actually coming to this rally?  Almost all of the folks we found said they hope it's about the moderates of America.

Moderates?  Would that be another word for "independents"?  A recent Politico poll showed independents favoring Republican candidates over Dems by a 14% margin.  Raise your hand if you think a majority of people at the rally today will be voting Republican.  Wyatt, is that you?

Since the media loves showing the LaRouche people

Submitted by lsudolemite on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 11:03am.

at Tea Party rallies, I'm sure we'll see lots of footage of Communist Party USA, G-8 anarchists and SEIU thugs expressing their strong support for, ahem, "moderation".

"Liberalism is hideous.  It is the antithesis of being pro-human.  It looks at life as a burden in and of itself to be managed, rather than as a blessing to be explored and lived to the fullest." --Rush Limbaugh

Maybe no coverage at all...

Submitted by HeavyChevy on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 1:41pm.

Not sure how much CC (comedy central) can actually get away with this (since it's on public property really none) but do you not have the feeling the Comedy Central is worried about who will actually show up at this so called moderate rally and what the American public will do when they see this so called rally of mederates in action?

Well, true enough, those

Submitted by Thoreau on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 4:15pm.

Well, true enough, those moderate Communists and SEIU bussers made the last one.  Let's see if  they come out again and support the cause that is Hope and Change.  I thought the first one was bad enough.  Adding insult to injury was Colbert making an ass out of himself in Congress.

This is tripling down on stupid.  I wish them luck.

If you read the top secret

Submitted by Barack_must_go..... on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 11:09am.

If you read the top secret itinerary leaked to the general public by accident ( on purpose ), you will see that Stewart & Colbert combined will only have a total of 45 minutes one on 2000 face time before their adoring fans. How sad it that? These two actually despise their own fans as much as I do them.

Most of the day consists of taped propaganda and a few musical guests. All they need is a couple of torn, smelly couches and the crowd would think they were back at home watching reruns of Jon & Stephen's dis-respective shows.

Those libs got a love em, they cannot do anything right, funniest part is their base isn't the wiser.

Tomorrow these two, who were actually only there live, under one hour, will be the talk of the town in liberal circles.

Oh well, I guess being there in spirit, at your own live rally, that every lib from the president to Oprah and even the true boss behind the Obama White House, George Soros had a hand in, counts for something.........NOT.

I'm guessing 90% of the crowd won't even know the difference between live and prerecorded tape.

Where was the restore sanity

Submitted by DontTreadOnMe on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 11:10am.

Where was the restore sanity rally when Bush was President, the Tea Party and Becker's rallies are far more sane than any leftist rally?

Moderates don't march

Submitted by StarAZ on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 12:12pm.

I wonder how many truly half-interested, middle-of-the-road types march at all. What would they do--carry a sign that said, "Good government is good"? Drink vanilla shakes?

eh

Submitted by michiganruth on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 4:07pm.

well, the little bit I watched was "moderately" funny, if that counts.

the tolerance stuff seemed to be mostly along the lines of "C'mon everybody, can't we all just get along, even you crazy rightwing nutcases over there?"

on the good side, tho, they had showed videos of news "personalities" saying crazy things, and they were very careful to show all the channels equally, including MSNBC. even tho I don't think Glenn Beck and Ed Schultz are comparable, these people obviously do, so it's the first step toward them realizing that Schultz is "as bad as " Beck (in their minds).

next step will be when they find out that Beck is actually teaching something, whereas Schultz is just hating. but that comes later! they're liberals, they learn slowly.

"It was an open air concert and comedy show, not a rally"

Submitted by Ole_Sarge on Sat, 10/30/2010 - 8:09pm.

Said by friends that went.  They also went to August 28th Restore Honor Rally and the September 12th TEA party event too.

There were some extremes present, but over all while not totally "family friendly" (language) pretty much a middle of the road "attempt."

Did like that they started off with the National Anthem (respectfully done by the group "4Troops).
