Rand's Race: Matthews Plays The Nazi Card

By Mark Finkelstein | October 26, 2010 | 20:27

Change font size:  A |  A

The guy who put his foot on an anti-Paul protester and pushed should be made to answer to the law.   Period.  That doesn't mean Chris Matthews had  to break out the tired Nazi metaphor. But he did.

On this evening's Hardball, after rolling tape of the incident that occurred outside the Kentucky senatorial debate last night, Matthews dredged up the creakiest cliché in politics.

View video after the jump.

CHRIS MATTHEWS:  Wo-w-w-w.   I don' t know what to make of that, but it reminds me of the 30s in another country.

If Matthews is going to go the Nazi-metaphor route, can't he at least have the courage of doing so straight up, instead of resorting to lamely-laminated references?

MSNBC Talking Points?

Fellow NewsBuster Jeff Poor informs me that Ed Schultz, discussing the incident on his show this evening, also went the Nazi-analogy route.   Can we count on Keith and Rachel to keep the chain letter alive?

Wow.  And that was Chrissie's first analogy...right out of the box!

Maybe we should have Matthews' Corrolary to Godwin's Law : In any confrontation or disagreement involving a conservative or Republican, the first analogy is always Nazi-related.

Does anyone remember Chrissie waxing indignant and drawing Nazi analogies to those SEIU thugs beating up Kenneth Gladney?

I made sure to tune into Schultz today...

and sure enough, it was a classic. Apoplectic does not even come close. Showed the clip at least 10 times with special emphasis on the "concussion"  (watching the video, sorry, no way). No mention of the blonde wig, oddly enough.

Edward apparently forgot about the finger biter-offer, the wheelchair beatdown boys and many others.

[And I am not defending the idiots involved in this incident.]

Submitted by Radical1979 on Tue, 10/26/2010 - 9:11pm.

I saw that too.  I couldn't understand Schultz's outrage at Paul.  He kept saying Paul has to speak out against this, which Paul did.  I got the impression Schultz wanted Paul to end his campaign because of this.

Special Ed may have hit a ratings high today.  He DID NOT disappoint, I laughed and laughed.  If there is one lock this election day, it's Rubio.  If there is a second, it's that Kentucky is not going to elect some tax and spend ObamaCare loving lawyer.

Yeah, Edward stopped just shy of saying Paul "ordered the hit"

Submitted by SickofLibs on Wed, 10/27/2010 - 8:20am.

The moveon.org creep was hysterical, too.

When Edward implied the woman was NOT there as part of an organized demonstration, the guy had to say, "Um, no, Ed, it WAS organized by us."

Wait, wait, wait a second

Submitted by KC Mulville on Tue, 10/26/2010 - 10:31pm.

Before I saw this video here, I was under the impression that a protester was assaulted by crazed tea party psychopaths.

  • From the AP site: "A Rand Paul supporter stomped on the head of a woman representing the liberal organization MoveOn.org. The incident happened outside a debate between Paul and the Democratic rival Jack Conway for the open Kentucky senate seat."

Let's go to the tape. Big crowd. Candidate gets out of car, and someone in a wig makes a move toward the candidate. They (security team?) wrestles her to the ground.

Stop ...

  • In the AP story, see any mention of the woman moving toward the candidate with something in her hand? Neither do I.
  • In the AP version, the poor woman was just standing there when crazed supporters attacked her, out of the blue.
  • Then, they interview her afterwards, and her explanation is that she was innocently protesting, and the hostile crowd just  ... like ... turned and attacked. The crowd was just, you know, mean.

OK. Look. Whether he was a security guard or just a supporter, the guy shouldn't have put his sneaker on the woman's head, after she was already wrestled to the ground. If he was a security guard who was hyped up by the crowd, that might be one thing, but either way he shouldn't have done it. Fine. Granted.

But to leave out the details about the woman instigating the incident is journalistic malpractice. And then to use this as "evidence" that the tea partyers are Nazi brownshirt thugs is despicable. Matthews was a jerk for portraying it that way.

Did Tinglepants cover the

Submitted by mattm on Tue, 10/26/2010 - 11:42pm.

Did Tinglepants cover the SEIU's assaults on TEA Party people?  I don't remember it.

I know my local news didn't cover it, but they covered this.

The Left can commit vote fraud all over the place and the only thing the media talks about is Bush in 2000 (which was actually a failed attempt by Dems to steal the election- a concept the libtard media probably never even considered).

They can bash "religion" every day, as long as it's not Islam.

The Dems can be institutionally corrupt, but let one Republican out of a thousand cross the line and that's all you hear about for weeks, months or even years.

Frankly, I bet this punk did something to provoke the attack (and was probably sent in there by some Lefty group to do it) - which the "news" didn't show.

With all the crap the right has taken from these anuses over the years, their lucky this kind of thing isn't more frequent.

And, no, I don't advocate it.

I was thinking the same thing, mattm.  Someone please remind me what Matthews had to say when the SEIU thug beat up that black vender outside the Tea Party Rally.  And he wasn't making any offensive movement, just giving out some flags.  Here's a You Tube link to the SEIU incident, along with some other examples of liberal "tolerance."  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFeUhSlHiUQ

These protestors are dangerous, offensive people, ask book tour people like Rove and Coulter!

Of course, MSNBC is unconcerned with violence against GOP'ers.
