H/t MRC's Jeff Poor. I urge people to read the blog entry that Jackie Seals, the impressive young lady that O'Donnell confronted, has written about her experience. Not only does it provide fascinating background material about just what a set-up O'Donnell devised, it also catches Norah out in a fib.
As you'll note from an earlier update at the foot of this item, after O'Donnell began catching heat for her stunt, she went back on the air to defend herself. Among other things, responding to charges she had confronted a young girl, O'Donnell twice claimed that her interview subject "voted in the last election."
Just one problem: Jackie informs us that she is . . . 17. Maybe Norah got confused with ACORN voting standards, but 16-year old conservatives [the age she would presumably have been at last year's election] don't go to the polls.
--------------------------
We all remember how back during the '08 campaign, MSM reporters would challenge people attending Obama rallies with uncomfortable truths about their candidate, along the lines "would you still support him if you knew he had the most liberal voting record in the Senate?" Or not. I certainly can't remember any MSMer confronting an Obama supporter in such a way.
But let people line up to express their admiration for Sarah Palin . . .
NORAH O'DONNELL: Tell me your name?
WOMAN: Jackie.
O'DONNELL: Jackie? You have been out here. Show me your t-shirt. Tell me what it says.
JACKIE: The U.S. government handed out $700 billion in Wall Street bailouts and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.
O'DONNELL: Did you know that Sarah Palin supported the bailout? When O'Donnell threw it back to David Shuster and Tamron Hall in the studio, a condescending theme emerged among them essentially portraying Palin supporters as mind-numbed robots.
JACKIE: I don't -- where did you hear that?
O'DONNELL [reading from notes]: During the campaign, John McCain brought everyone to Washington, praised the bailout and Sarah Palin, during the debate, the vice presidential debate, praised John McCain for bringing folks together to pass the bill and said it is a time of crisis in government. That it's time to step in. So, Sarah Palin was for the bailout.
JACKIE: You think she was. I think if you asked her today, she was not for the bailout.
O'DONNELL: The reason I ask you, I think it was -- there's some confusion about Sarah Palin's policies and that's yes ask you that she is against the stimulus but during the campaign, she was for the bailout, as was John McCain. Does that change your view?
JACKIE: No, it does not.
O'DONNELL: Tamron, David, you get a sense of some of Sarah Palin's supporters here. They feel a connection with Sarah Palin, can't be specific in some cases about the issues but they feel a connection with her.
. . .
DAVID SHUSTER: NBC's Norah O'Donnell in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Norah, great work, so intriguing to hear them and we appreciate it. Tamron, you know, there is people who like Sarah Palin, like everything, there is a lot of misinformation that people have and it does not matter.
TAMRON HALL: Doesn't matter.

Forced to Watch MSNBC
Thu, 11/19/2009 - 18:41 ET by Copperhead RidgeI was in the waiting room at a doctor's office this afternoon. The TV was set to MSNBC during the Dr. Nancy Snyderman show, which is called "Dr. Nancy."
I can remember when this party flack was on ABC, but she seems to have plenty of freedom on how she wants to skew stories on MSNBC. I can't remember the reporters name, but she was covering Sarah Palin's book signing in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which, as it turns out, is Doctor Snyderman's hometown.
The reporter said that Governor Palin ducked a couple of policy questions but had no footage of any questions being asked. She then said that none of the people she talked to could discuss issues but supported Sarah Palin out of emotion. I wish I had her exact words.
An older couple sitting next to me were nodding their heads through the entire report, and the wife said, "See, it's all emotion with them."
I felt like I had stepped into upside down world.
They went back to Snyderman who said polite words about Palin being a hoosier for the day, but I thought she was going to choke on those words.
I only watch MSNBC when I'm forced to, but I couldn't believe the amateurish handling of the news.
A little while later, Snyderman contorted logic in trying to defend the administration's tap dance on the issue of when women should get mammographies.
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
By the way, it's good to be back on Newsbusters. The ice storm in Kentucky sort of derailed my life for a few months. We had to rebuild our house due to a tree destroying a large portion of it.

Old folks at doctor
Thu, 11/19/2009 - 20:53 ET by JanineCI would have told the old folks at the doctor's office that they had no clue what they were talking about. They are merely accepting what is being told to them at face value with absolutely NO facts to back it up. I respect my elders when they deserve respect--but I will also tell them when they are wrong too.
I campaigned against Obama with my own father for months--it was impossible to make him take me seriously (my being the child) but after all was said and done, he finally conceded later that I was 100% correct in my evaluations of the outcome.
Norah O'Donnell - bias is thru and thru
Thu, 11/19/2009 - 18:42 ET by Gary HallNorah. Most of understand that millions of folks out there often do not have their facts straight - especially on the details of who supported what, when. Norah's continued insistence with only challenging one side in any issue, is proof that she is the one with the great divide in what the facts actually are.
Which reminds me of how impressed Norah was when John Zigler went out and conducted a survey of what voters actually believed to be true during last years election. Much of the topic was on issues involving Gov. Sarah Palin.
Hey Norah, you remember what Zigler uncovered? Well, I'd decifer it this way; those most likely to watch your presentation of the news (and Shuster's), were the most likely to be the most uninformed with the facts, and the most informed with false smears. For any questions watch Zigler's "Media Malpractice."
