Far be it from NewsBusters to support more government social-program spending. Still, my antennae went up when I heard AARP's Nancy LeaMond dismiss a half-trillion in Medicare cuts as mere "scalpel" wielding. LeaMond, AARP Exec. VP, made her blithe statement while defending her organization's endorsement of ObamaCare to Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe today.

Which made me wonder: just who is Nancy LeaMond? Click, Wikipedia, click: whaddayaknow?  Turns out that before coming to AARP, LeaMond was a senior Clinton administration appointee and a top Dem congressional staffer. Surprise, surprise!

Here's the Wiki passage:

She began her career as the Chief of Staff to U.S. Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar. On March 18, 1993 she was nominated by President Clinton to serve as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for Congressional Affairs. She served as Chief of Staff to [Clinton admin] U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky.
In the course of her appearance, LeaMond characterized cuts to Medicare under the AARP-endorsed plan, estimated at half-a-trillion dollars over 10 years, as mere "scalpel" wielding. Observed Scarborough sardonically: "that's a pretty big scalpel."

Rush likes to call the NAACP the NAALCP, the 'L' standing for liberal.  Should we start calling AARP "AARDP"?

Thanks Mark

I had assumed the leadership was a bunch of extremist Dems based on their ongoing failure to support majority opinion like their peers in Congress.  Now it's confirmed - thanks Mark.

I'd like to offer Anti Seniors Society Expediting Socialism for consideration.

Further proof...

...our Republic is being dismantled from within.

The timing for AARP & AMA to publicly annouce their "support" of the "Hell-Care" bill is conicidental and very (in)convenient...this doesn't pass the smell test.

After all, everyone knows there are no coincidences...especially when the current administration has made it abundantly clear and have stated openly, "...let no good crisis go to waste..."

God save the Republic!

What did you expect?

just some un connected person? Never going to happen with this bunch.

CANCEL NOW

If you are a member, or know a member of AARP, please CANCEL NOW. Do not give these people any money. Do not let this ultra-liberal organization sell out old people any more!!

"Money to be Made"

AARP also offers "services" to its members (I'm One) that take the form of insurance to "fill the gaps".

Wanna bet that the "gaps" created by Obama/Pelosi Care will provide an opportunity for AARP to add another revenue stream from Seniors who think that they have their best interest at heart?

This is an organization I'm quitting because the only interests they represent are their own.

Any organization for

Any organization for "retired persons" that solicits members of 50 years old is a fraud, IMO.

The reason they solicit members so young is, or course, money.

I wish they would just bill themselves a sort of "Price Club" for sales of auto and medical insurance, travel, etc.

That they claim to "represent" the elderly is a disgrace.

I still get ads

I still get ads from their insurance and credit card partners and it's been at least 5 years since I quit AARP. I often just trash them but have taken to snedind the postage paide envelopes back with a note saying NO WAY!.

Change You Can Believe In

Join American Seniors Association and mail your TORN AARP card along with your new ASA membership number to 3700 Mansell Rd., Suite 220, Alpharetta, GA 30022 to receive a second year of membership free!

AARP

I got an invitation yesterday for AARP supplemental insurance. At least I think that's what was thrown in the trash can. I dropped my membership years ago when I figured out all AARP wanted was more money! My brother in law gets an invitatation to join about every other month. He's been dead for 10 years!

it's been socialist and greedy for decades

AARP was taken over decades ago (Clinton era) by a bunch of 30-something socialists. They have been part of the Medi-scare scam and many other 'trick the old people' scams. They have continually put money behind any pol that moves left, regardless whether or not it benefits seniors.

I joined my wife and I in ASA (American Seniors Assoc.). The problem is that most seniors are too damn lazy to shift to another group. I'm going to love to see them howl when their health providers won't touch 'em. It's getting that way now if you have Medicare.

Two things....

DO NOT THROW AWAY AARP mailings.  Send it back in their pre-paid envelopes telling them where to stick it and why.  I haven't received a mailing since.

Joe mentioned the AMA.  Boy did they shoot themselves in the head.  Prior they only represented TWENTY PERCENT of physicians.  Now it's less.
