Golf Channel's Chamblee On Advice: 'Good Stuff, Not Like Getting Hunting Tips From Cheney'

Golf, too?  If there was one sport you'd think might be immune from the liberal slant that has invaded too much of sports reporting, it's golf.  The fairways-and-greens guys are known for generally being Republicans.

But out of the blue [green?] on a Golf Channel show this afternoon, host Brandel Chamblee took a cheap shot at Dick Cheney with a rather nasty hunting reference.

Chamblee, who before retiring from the PGA Tour had one win in 370 career starts, was discussing with co-host Rich Lerner the putting woes of the affable Jason Gore . . .

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

RICH LERNER: Jason Gore—a lot of people want to know, because they like Jason, they remember him at Pinehurst at that U.S. Open. What's happened to Jason do you think?

BRANDEL CHAMBLEE: Well you know, it reminds me almost again of the City Slickers video where the guy says "if you could just do one thing."  And he really struggles with one area of the game.  Tee to green, he's got that part.  Last year he was the best driver on the PGA Tour, and he lost his [playing privileges] card.  The reason is he really struggles from inside ten feet.  He said that he went to Captain Faxon, Brad Faxon [known as one of the greatest putters ever], to get putting tips. This is not like getting hunting tips from Cheney: this is the good stuff right here, this is exactly, this is the guy you need to go to.
Lerner seemed a bit shocked, emitting an extended "oooh!"

Suggestion to Mr. Chamblee: stick to calling the birdies and bogies and lay off the cheap political cracks.  We conservatives need at least one refuge on the sporting dial.

My comment is from an Obama czar: "A-hole!" I would threaten to turn off the golf channel but who would believe anyone is actually watching!

Another reason NOT to have

Another reason NOT to have cable.

Big Hitter

All I got to say to Brandel is "Gunga....gunga galunga...gunga, gunga..."

Old School Political Humor

Sorry, but I don't view this as an attack on Cheney's politics.  This reminds me of the "type" of political humor that Johnny Carson use to employ.  It's politically nuetral humor based on someone's a-political actions.

I find it easy to believe that Cheney's personal friends still grief him about this hunting incident.  I doubt that they rib him about Guantanamo Bay.

And the winner for best

And the winner for best "neutral humor" directed at liberals is?

Like the bumper sticker

Like the bumper sticker says " I rather gio hunting with Dick Cheney that ride with Ted Kennedy."

I used to watch the Golf Channel some, some that is, until they had Charles Barkely on the there.

Chamblee could not refrain from bashing George W

in a televised segment in May during the 2009 Players Championship where President George H.W. Bush was awarded the PGA Tour Lifetime Acheivement Award. Video can be viewed here http://www.eyeblast....

Sorry Brandee!

Triple bogey! No mulligan for you pal!  : )

Ok, so which one amongst you will go hunting with Dick?

I'm the redest of red staters & I wouldn't go hunting with Cheney. This seems to be harmless comedy, lighten up.

I certainly don't go hunting for it.

TEMPEST IN A TEAPOT

Frankly, I don't think this is Olberman-ian in its level of hatred Chamblee may, or may not, have of Dick Cheney. Cheney is fair game in regard to his lack of hunting acumen. Had this been Al Gore many republicans would be on him mercilessly.

Yes, his colleague Kelly Tilghman started a minor controversy when she joked that Tiger should be "lynchhed" (http://nbcsports.msn...) back in January 2008, so I can see how the Golf Channel may censor Chamblee, but even I don't think it's out of whack.

I say let it go. There are many other things by other people that we should be concerned with anyway.

Cheap shots

I met Harry Whittington last month at a social. A left wing nut came up to him and said "are you the guy who Dick Cheney shot?". Like the true gentleman he is, Harry said: "Yes", and went on about his business with a smile on his face.

Chamblee should do the same. It was an ACCIDENT.

Putting is not an accident unless you are Chamblee with a putter in your hands.

Wonder how long before we

Wonder how long before we see the Bush bashing appear on Nick Jr.?
