What some guys won't say to get attention . . .
Analogizing Rush Limbaugh to a James Bond villain, Chris Matthews today fantasized: "at some point somebody's going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he's going to explode like a giant blimp."
Hosting MSNBC's 10 AM hour today, Matthews made his remark while chatting with Politico's Jonathan Martin and Anne Kornblut of WaPo.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: You guys see Live and Let Die, the great Bond film with Yaphet Kotto as the bad guy, Mr. Big? In the end they jam a big CO2 pellet in his face and he blew up. I have to tell you, Rush Limbaugh is lookingThat closing "are you watching, Rush?" was the giveaway. Matthews, whose anemic ratings trail even Rachel Maddow's in the MSNBC line-up, is desperately hoping someone—anyone—is watching. And if it takes publicly fantasizing about the violent death of a political opponent, well, all's apparently fair in love and ratings in Matthews' mind.more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebody's going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he's going to explode like a giant blimp. That day may come. Not yet. But we'll be there to watch. I think he's Mr. Big, I think Yaphet Kotto. Are you watching, Rush?
Note: Matthews didn't even get his mean-spirited metaphor right. "Looking more and more like Mr. Big"? Wrong. If anything, the suddenly svelte Limbaugh is looking less and less like him.

Chris Matthews & his panel were only HELPING Rush Limbaugh today
October 13, 2009 - 12:35 ET by Mitch DworkinChris Matthews and his panel (Jonathan Martin and Anne Kornblut) just do not seem to get it that they were only HELPING Rush Limbaugh today by mentioning him and how powerful that he is!
Mary Matalin tried to teach this exact same lesson to Paul Krugman on CNN and like Chris Matthews & his panel today, Krugman did not get it either. Here is the YouTube video where Mary Matalin's lesson to Paul Krugman starts at about 3:53 into the video and goes to about 5:33 into it:

ANDERSON COOPER 360 DEGREES
The Fight For Afghanistan; President Obama Under Pressure
Aired October 5, 2009 - 22:00 ET
ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: COOPER: "Mary, what about that? Paul also wrote today that -- he said: "At this point, the guiding principle of one of our nation's two great political parties is spite, pure and simple. If Republicans think something might be good for the president, they're against it, whether or not it's good for America."
MARY MATALIN: Well, maybe Mr. Krugman, who is an otherwise really smart guy, was asleep for the last eight years, when -- when the Senate leaders -- I mean the Democratic leaders in both chambers called Bush everything from a liar to a loser, we're losing the war, on really big issues, making false claims.
But let me take my conservative hat off here and ask a strategic question, because I do think Paul is smart. And I do think my husband are -- is a smart strategist. I don't know why you would relentlessly and repeatedly employ a tactic that not only doesn't work; it works against you.
The liberals and the Democrats have been demonizing Rush Limbaugh for over two decades, and they have just made him stronger. And they have expanded his audience.
KRUGMAN: You know, let me -- let me weigh in, first of all just on the issue of Rush Limbaugh. You know, he actually is over the top, and in a way that no major figure on the left is, no one would with -- with that kind of influence, that kind of respectability. Mary was just giving him the respectability he has.
And, well, as for the strategy, who knows? But I would say that, to some extent, yes, people are flocking to listen to him, but they're also pulling the Republican Party further and further out of the mainstream of this country.
MATALIN: I love when Paul does this. It's great. I don't just respect Rush. I revere Rush.
And I will say again, every time he's attacked, it's not just made him bigger. It spawned a lot of Rush knockoffs, some of whom are out there. But, when you drive people to these -- to these shows, and they're hearing a lot of data, and it's data that makes sense, and it comports with their life, and it's not demonizing them, or calling them anti-American, or angry mobs, well, it -- it just expands the -- what this country is anyway.
It's a center-right country. The data supports this..."
Mary Matalin is right because in a year from now, nobody will remember anything that Chris Matthews and company are saying about Rush Limbaugh right now. However IF Obama fails on the economy, on health care, on Afghanistan, or on any other big issue that comes up, then more people will know who Rush is, they will listen to him as the alternative to Obama, and Rush will be more powerful than ever if the Democrats get voted out!
I do not understand how Chris Matthews, Paul Krugman, and other "pundits" just like them cannot see such a simple point how that they are only HELPING Rush by what they are doing right now!
October 13, 2009 - 14:20 ET by jessieHSounds a lot like a threat, to me. If someone does, Matthews should be held accountable.

MSNBC "Journalism"?
October 13, 2009 - 16:56 ET by Ruler4YouChris Mathews calls himself a 'journalist'? HA! He's a joke!
His show is a take off of the old SNL "News Update" with Jane Curtain, Dennis Miller and Dan Aykroyd. Just like John Stewart's. Both call them selves 'journalists' but neither practice even rudimentary journalistic professionalism.
This comment only serves to illucidate the total lack of professionalism and an over abundance of immature irresponsibility.

Incitement to violence

Hmmm.....
October 14, 2009 - 08:26 ET by tampamom25I wonder what the repercussions would be if someone said this about Keith Olberman or Rachel Madow? We'd be listening to it repeated ad nauseum by the mainstream press, heads would roll, the universe would shift on its axis and we'd hear it labelled hate speech everywhere we turned. Double standards abound...... Matthews should be muzzled and taken off the air for his hate mongering.
