Carole King Lumps Cap-and-Tax Opponents With 'Birthers'

Watch out, Barbra Streisand!  You've got some serious competition in the category of formerly famous woman singers turned loud and illogical liberal lips.

Carole King has proclaimed that people who say that Pres. Obama's cap-and-tax plan is an energy tax are . . . like "birthers."

King made her wacky claim on Willie Geist's "Way Too Early" show this morning.

View video here.

Hmm.  Could PBO himself be a secret birther? Does he know something about the authenticity of that Hawaiian birth certificate we don't?  Because it was none other than Obama who just last year said: "under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

If birthers didn't exist, liberals would have to invent them. Birthers have become the perfect liberal foil, used to discredit opposition to any Obama policy.  Against cap-and-tax?  Birther!  Don't like ObamaCare?  Birther!  Think Cash For Clunkers is crazy? Birther, birther, birther!

PBO might make Carole feel like a natural woman and make the earth move under her feet.  Where he leads, King will follow and she will surely love him tomorrow.  But for those who see through his schemes, it's too late.  Way too late.

WILLIE GEIST: What do you say to people who have said [cap-and-tax] is nothing more than an energy tax? You're just taxing energy.  Is that a bad thing?

CAROLE KING: You know what?  As we've heard, there's birthers, there's deathers, there's people that will say anything to put doubt into people's minds.  It's like court, you know, when they have reasonable doubt. This is, you know, what people are saying about that, and the birthers and the health care bill: that's unreasonable doubt.

I see the WH talking points

I see the WH talking points have gone out to the MOI.

Isn't it funny how they all, all of a sudden, start to define the opposition using the same terms....birthers, fringe group...anything but angry citizens.

I didn't watch the Sunday shows or news yesterday....are they all in step yet using the new term Health Insurance Reform?

Anyone who doesn't have grapes for brains in that bunch should have seen that that should have been the way to go from the beginning; especially after it (health care reform) got  trashed the last time.

Now it's just obvious that they don't know what they are doing, and are just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

Unfortunately...

This stuff works with some of the independent electorate.  I watched Linda Douglass on Howard Kurtz yesterday and she sat there and lied through her teeth.  If you're not engaged in the process and hear that, you could come away believing the Democrat position is correct and the Repubs are lying.  It's difficult to wrestle a pig in their own environment - the mud.

Independent of commonsense

It's probably greater than 'some'. I think most of the Independents are such because they adore the attention and importance placed upon them by the MSM. And if the MSM says that Republicans are 'lying', then they are inclined to believe them.

"... are they all in step yet using the new term Health Insurance Reform?"

Superb comment, MB.

It's just like Global Warming was changed to Climate Change when the first name took on less than desirable qualities.

The Left/Libs will wiggle, shuck and jive any way they can to get what they want.  It's like a perp being interrogated by a police officer who lies constantly in an attempt to convince you of his innocence.  Both are transparent juvenile fabrications to any one with a critical eye (meant in the scientific sense).  It's the suckers of the world that believe them without untainted corroborating fact.

Is it true that Nancy Pelosi is known to her China Town constituents as "Fling Poo"?

(Wasn't that a skit on Get Smart?)

So?

Who cares what Carole King thinks?

It's not because Carole

It's not because Carole King says it; no one thinks that she is shaping public opinion.

It's just another indication that the Democrats are succeeding in swamping the public conversation with their ridiculous assertion that anyone who opposes this plan is part of the radical "fringe,"  way outside the mainstream of America.

Preaching to the Choir

Although there is a lot of talk among Democrats and in the media about people who oppose the plan being a part of the radical fringe, they're preaching to the choir.  It's not changing the opinions of people who oppose Obama's health care plans and it's not scaring them away from continuing to question the plan.

What the Democrats are doing is drawing a battle line and attempting to escalate rhetoric into physical confrontation.  It's the only way they feel they can control what's happening, and it's going to backfire on them.  Between the tea parties and the opposition to the health care plans it's clear that the people on the right - who comprise the majority of the Americal people - have had enough.

Carole King...

Carole King is still alive?

Good Lord!  She must be nearly 70.

Wasn't she a kind of singer?  Like a female Gordon Lightfoot or something?

Hmmm.  Must be working on a second career or something.

Does she have any qualifications?  Or is this "random possible name-recognition moonbat spouting off for the sycophantic media"?

Frankly, I'm waiting to hear what Abe Vigoda thinks.  He's relevant.

qualified?

She wrote some good songs.  She sang some too.

Qualified?  I checked her bio and see she went to college.  Where she met Neil Sadaka.

I report.  You decide.

It's Sedaka, Not "Sadaka"

...just like it's Depeche Mode, not The Pesh Mode. Jeeze, get the spelling straight.

Well, is King's opinion anymore outrageous than Pat Boone's political commentary? Whether they're liberal like Barbara Streissand or conservative like Ted Nugent, they should just shut up and sing.

It is a tax

more specifically for anyone who has read the legislation and/or the accompanying EPA documents (I'm much more familiar with the latter)- it is a combustion tax.  Any combustion unit (giving off CO2) that meets certain criteria will have to buy carbon credits (i.e. they'll be taxed).  This will hit both the energy and chemical industries big time.  For the chemical industry where I reside, the costs will rival the cost to import material from Europe which means that someone could build an identical plant (in every way- labor rates, regulatory environment, etc.) in Europe and come out even.

The reason the chemical industry isn't fighting this hard is that many of the companies (Dow, Dupont, BASF, SABIC) are true multinational companies.  In many instances they have identical plants in 2 or more countries, typically on different continents.  They do not care if country X is dumb enough to do this to themselves.  They'll just build their new plants elsewhere and pass the costs along to the citizens of country X.  Best part of this is that other countries will also see their profits on products sold to the US go up and it will make it that much harder for us to export materials elsewhere.

You will certainly see a collapse in the number of new chemical plants and/or plant expansions in the US and you will probably see some existing plants get mothballed in order to manipulate the CnT system for a company's benefit (if you close a plant that runs a process that relies on a lot of CO2 (typically in the form of high pressure steam to heat different processes and/or incinerate process waste), it will kill the profit margins of that business.  This collapse is probably ongoing (most major capital projects take several years to complete) but the data is obscured by the ongoing financial crisis.

Cheerio!!!

The Beauty of C02 Regulation

Almost any  oxygenation reaction with a hydrocarbon produces C02.    C02 regulation lets the government regulate almost any industrial process.  This is the Clean Air Act on steroids.

WHAT...

 Liza Minelli was'nt available?

"...How blind can you be, don't you see...

...that the gambler lost all he does not have..."

Nightwish

Yes, yes!

Absolutely. We need to hear Liza Minnelli's opinion on this before proceeding. Why has no one sought her out? ...and Babs Streisand, Alec Baldwin, Kathy Griffin...

Wait!

You forgot Pauly Shore!

King should learn Histroy

Ms. King obviously has been sleeping for the last 30 yrs. The citizens are not all puppets of the administration. In the 60's, the progressive's loved protesters, but today they say they are being un-American. Seems she is a hypocrite like the rest of her ilk.

She should open a histroy book, and see what happened the last time the progressive party had true power. That happened in a European country, it was the 1930's, and the National Socialist Party. I do not believe it worked out well.

Carole Who? Said What?

Like, you know what?  Isn't she, like you know, related to Johnny Cougar, man?

I hope he fails, too.

Yes - she's his estranged grandmother.

Yes - she's his estranged grandmother.

Oh Carole... you are but a fool!

I don't know about you guys, but I always check in with NEIL SEDAKA before I decide what I should think about politics!

I feel the birthers move under my feet,

I see the lies tumblin' down, tumblin' down,

Thanks Barack: from post-racial to most-racial in just six months!

LOL Jack

Speaking of old songsters, I was thinking Obama could have been the subject of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain".

Amazing how relevant these old warblers are these days....not!

I hope he fails, too.

blonde - ha, that's

blonde - ha, that's perfect.

New Topic. 20th Century popular songs which describe Obama perfectly:

TAXMAN -- Beatles.

FOOL ON THE HILL -- Beatles

HIGHWAY TO HELL -- BO/DC

Thanks Barack: from post-racial to most-racial in just six months!

You're So Vain

That could be a Paul Shanklin hit!

Great Minds Think Alike!

Blonde:

You literally took the post out of my keyboard!

I was going to frame it that Carole will be singing that song in a couple of years when the tax collectors finally begins their rounds.

Is anyone actually surprised Carole King thinks this way?

You're So Vain

No surprise there, strat.

Carole King & Carly Simon were of the same era....both great songwriters.  I'd imagine Carly is just as silly as Carole, though, when it comes to pampered elitist liberal politics.

I hope he fails, too.

Ha!  I guess I am a little

Ha!  I guess I am a little vain for calling my self a genius too!

I can't get too excited about Carly Simon's political musings either.  I like her body of work in music and she is relatively harmless.  I mean, she put up with James Taylor's antics for years , and I love Taylor's earlier works too.

How could I get too excited about Simon's politics when she does stuff like this.  The dancing alone is infectious, lighthearted fun.

BTW, this is one of my favorite band line-ups -

  • Waddy Wachtel on guitar
  • Danny 'Kootch" Kortchmar on guitar
  • Leland Sklar on bass (lost triplet brother of ZZ Top?)
  • David Sanborn on sax
  • Unseen but probably Craig Doerge (Cleveland boy!) on keyboards
  • Backup singers Arnold McCuller (another Clevelander!) and David Lasley

These guys played with many of my favorites over the years.

Wow

I didn't know she was still alive since it has been a mere 35 years since she was remotely relevant.

Carole King

Carole King? She still around? Who knew.

Coherency issues:

CAROLE KING: You know what?  As we've heard, there's birthers, there's
deathers, there's people that will say anything to put doubt into
people's minds.  It's like court, you know, when they have reasonable
doubt. This is, you know, what people are saying about that, and the
birthers and the health care bill: that's unreasonable doubt.

Now how can you argue with that logic?

Carole?? King?? What, Joan Baez doesn't get up that early?

Carole?? King?? What, Joan Baez doesn't get up that early?

Shut up and sing!

Shut up and sing!

Or....just shut up. BTW -

Or....just shut up.

BTW - "birthers" have far more credibility than "truthers."

You know your past your prime...

.....when you need to say really crazy things for P.R.  on a really early morning show on MSNBC. Talk about desperate. I do have one question though; was anyone actually watching this show, or has Newsbusters shown it the light of day? More people have probably learned about this here than actually watched it live. MSNBC, how pathetic!

President Obama is nothing more than a lying empty suit; a Hollywood style special effects smoke and mirrors show that has shown itself to be a total fraud.

WAKE UP AMERICA! SAVE OUR CONSTITUTION!

She's still alive?

I thought Carole King was killed in the same plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

By this criteria, you can

By this criteria, you can put down John Dingell, D-MI as a "birther":

Shut Up & Sing

Didn't Laura Ingraham write a book of that title that was directed at Hollywood and other entertainers who want to waste our time telling us their personal political points of view?

Shut up and sing, Carol!

--

We need to stop calling them "Progressives" when in reality they are big government "Socialists" who no longer value the individual's rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Re King

I don't want to watch the video, but I would not be surprised to find that this moonbat also has some kind of comeback album to be released, or a comeback tour. That's usually the way these things work.

       Cap and trade

Cap and trade is just another way to sat TAX. Would abortionists be called death eaters? It fits them..I guess I can throw out some more cds now. I didn't care for her music that much, anyway.                                                                    Congress doesn't deserve any respect.

She may be right

I am both a birther and I am against this useless cap n tade. And I am right on both issues.

Carole King appearing on

Carole King appearing on "Way Too Early" underlines the appropriateness of the show's name. I would rather have heard what "Melanie"* had to say...
