Somewhere, Lyndon Johnson is smiling. Howard Dean has provided perfect proof of LBJ's adage that when it comes to potential adversaries, "it's better to have them inside the tent p---ing out than outside the tent" doing the reverse.
Barack Obama chucked Dean out of his DNC chairmanship. Adding insult to injury, PBO denied the good doctor any role in his health care initiative. Now, it's payback time. Subbing for Keith Olbermann on this evening's Countdown, Dean depicted Obama as a loser in the health care fight. For good measure, he flung a famous Obama campaign slogan back in the prez's face.
Here was Dean in his show opening monologue.
HOWARD DEAN: No public option? No employer mandate? Why bother? Is President Obama slowly losing the health care fight?Later, chatting with Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Chair of the Dem Congressional Campaign Committee, Dean dealt the unkindest cut of all.
DEAN: Chris, voters were promised "change they can believe in." Are you concerned about what may happen to our party in 2010 or 2012 if we don't get any change at all?Hitting Obama with a favorite campaign slogan to suggest he might bring down the whole party? Ouch!

Well yeah!! The dems will have a chance at keeping control of congress if they 'lose' this healthcare fight. The country is in no mood for more disruption in their lives. Screw up their healthcare and they will really be fightin' mad.

Tue, 07/28/2009 - 22:13 ET by Richard RomanoDr. Dean has become quite sensible the past couple of years...no more frothing at the mouth and hurling accusations. He was on Medved's show the other day, he sounded reasonable and congenial.
Let's not forget that Dean let Olbermann know that calling people fascists isn't the way to go (much to ol' Keith's chagrin).
Credit where it is due.
Doesn't this kinda sum things up?

Change? We don't need no
Tue, 07/28/2009 - 22:31 ET by jessieHChange? We don't need no stinking change. How about just fixing the one we have. Get rid of the fraud! That includes the fraud in congress. Winner?
Tue, 07/28/2009 - 23:14 ET by KC MulvilleProbably Obama, because being president isn't beanbag, but being third from last is hardly comforting. Dean will be second to last, and Obermann will be at the very rear.
A confession ... I'm looking at some of these blue dog, conservative Democrats with some interest. I don't care about party. I care about policy. If a conservative Democrat comes along who really understands judicial originalism, market-heavy economic policy, and strong military, I'd be happy to support him or her. If he or she is pro-life, well ... my heart is sold.
Secret ... my guess is that sooner or later, Latinos will produce a conservative. When they do ... that's going to be a lot of fun.
KC... I have to
Tue, 07/28/2009 - 23:26 ET by bigtimerKC...
I have to run...just wanted to mention real quick that some what you mentioned in your post about blue dog dems reminded me of Zell Miller, I watched/listened that man for years in the Senate, he was and is one of my favorite men on earth.
I'd vote for him in a second, or anybody else of his ilk regardless of party label.
I do fear with time some of these blue dog dems in the House are going to end up voting in march step though....I sure hope I am very wrong.
Now if we could get some of the RINOs in the House to knock it off...last I saw late last week regarding votes, that ain't gonna' happen anytime soon.
You have a nice evening, catch ya later.

that's a tough one KC
Tue, 07/28/2009 - 23:43 ET by candanceI've also been mulling over the idea that if ObamaCare goes down in flames for one more year, the Blue Dogs should be thanked by conservies for at least stopping something. If a voter finds themselves choosing between the next Joe Leiberman vs the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, it's a tough call.
On the other hand, folks like Rush remind us that rebellion on one or two issues does not change the D behind someone's name so we shouldn't get our hopes up.
Could a sensible Democrat like Mike Ross be persuaded on other issues? If conservies took more interest in Blue Dogs and melted their phones more often, would it work?
Who knows?
Wed, 07/29/2009 - 01:36 ET by KC MulvilleRemember, candance, that just three years ago, it was a drop-dead certainty that Hillary Clinton was going to be president, and that she would pull us out of the unwinnable quagmire in Iraq. So, I'm not putting anything off the table.
But, first things first. Obama's looking bad, but even that could change in the blink of an eye. The Democrats could blow their diminishing political capital while they still have it. And let's not forget, convenient scandals are standard procedure in Chicago. Obama's original opponent in Illinois was pushed out by a sex scandal. Rahm Emanuel sat on sex scandals in the 2006 election and then unleashed the media at just the right time. And you know, the Republicans are just dumb enough to give them ammunition.
This is why politics is(are?) fun ...

Wed, 07/29/2009 - 01:20 ET by NonArabOmarObama shunned the guy who is partly responsible for him rising to power. He's the guy who pioneered some of Obama's campaign tactics. He was the mastermind behind the surge of faux conservative candidates that followed the Iraq war hysteria of 2006. He's the one that gave them congress and kept the ultraliberals muzzled up on gun control and other hot button issues.
