Talk about the political becoming personal . . .

On this evening's Hardball, Dick Armey told Joan Walsh:

I'm so damn glad that you could never be my wife, cause I surely wouldn't have to listen to that prattle from you every day.
The former Republican representative from Texas had been wrangling with Salon editor Walsh over the politics of the stimulus package and the role Rush Limbaugh has been playing, when things got out of hand . . . [H/t reader JF.]

Story Continues Below Ad ↓
DICK ARMEY: The fact of the matter is that there are income redistributionists that think they're going to curry favor with voting blocs in both parties. And it's wrong policy whether it comes from Republicans or Democrats, it makes no sense. Armey's axiom: don't let politics define your economics.  Don't let politics define anything.  Politics is silly; it's inane, and practitioners of politics are people--take what amusements you can from them, but don't take them seriously.

JOAN WALSH: But this is serious business. This is serious business. The economy is a wreck, and it's been wrecked by the Bush White House and by Republicans in Congress with Democratic help, a lot of help, now President Obama --

ARMEY: Give it a rest.

WALSH: Please stop saying "give it a rest." Do you have anything else to say?  President Obama has a mandate for change.  Your people have stood in his way; they're standing in his way on Capitol Hill right now, and Rush Limbaugh is making ridiculous statements and Republicans are crawling to him and groveling. That's the state of our economy and our world right now, Representative Armey, and it's sad.

ARMEY: I'm so damn glad that you could never be my wife, cause I surely wouldn't have to listen to that prattle from you every day.  That is what I'm talking --

WALSH: Well, boy, that makes two of us, sir. That was really an outstanding comment.

ARMEY: Look, ma'am, you can, you're talking like a paid political hack here, making your political points.

WALSH: Am I, sir?

ARMEY: Are we going to talk seriously?

WALSH: I actually care about social justice.  I care about jobs.  I care about the economy.

And she was prattling on ... Bush destroyed the economy?

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

DtM2

Of course Bush destroyed the economy.  Remember years back when the Dems started that thing forcing banks to give loans to people that couldn't pay for them?  Bush.  Remember when the Republicans tried, in the 90's, to get a grip on all on the bad loans and get some oversight and all of the Dems yelled, threatened, and whined about how crazy that idea was?  Bush again.  Oh, and remember when Bush himself warned that these types of loans needed oversight?  That was actually Bush.

Oh and she's not spewing the Dem's talking points, she really ''cares''.

Rep Armey is such a gentlemen

At least he didn't call her the whore that she is for Obama.  Let's face it, if Obama said that eggs cured cancer she would claim that there was probably a great reason for it and we were just being obstructionists for denying it without proof.

I hope you are not implying...........

that Ohhbama eat eggs?

I am so glad someone...

finally calls out one of these Obama cheerleaders in the media for what they are.  Now if we can get someone actually in office to do the same.  Probably too much to hope for.  I never heard of this woman but she sounds typical.  Jim Webster

This just once again

proves what I have always said. Women shouldn't be allowed to vote. Sure, it would mean that some of us that aren't insane witches couldn't vote, but to get rid of these harpies? It has got to be worth the trade-off. I actually did laugh out loud! She was spewing talking points, just like all the Obamatrons. It's pretty bad when Dick Armey makes you look like a d.a.

Disagree

The tendency of some women to "spew talking points" has nothing to do with allowing them or the rest of Americn women to vote. If you think we shouldn't have the right to vote, then also take away our obligation to pay taxes, but not anyone's right to free speech. Even idiots like that one.

I love this statistic

The reason I don't want women to vote? I say it all the time. If women had not voted, Republicans would have won every election for the last 50 years, excepting 1964. So, yeah, I think it is worth it. I also have said that I would give up my vote, which is very important to me, if we made a system that only the military could vote. I figure they are the ones putting their lives on the line for us, daily. Plus, I know they will vote more conservatively than most Americans. I do have a method to the madness. ; )

One thing I would enjoy is raising the voting age back

to 21 - AND having to pass a 9th grade Civics test before being issued a voting card!  It sickens both my husband and myself that our votes were negated by two Obama supporters who didn't even know what he stood for!  Nor did they know a thing about how our government is run!  And to make matters worse, were probably products of illegal activity by ACORN and were named Daffy and Dizzy Duck!

It is no dishonor to be in a minority in the cause of liberty and virtue. ~ Sam Adams

I bleeb only citizens were allowed to vote

in the movie "Starship Troopers".  And...I bleeb the only road to becoming a citizen was through military service, for both men and women.  The average Jill/Joe Blow didn't get a vote.  I kinda like the concept.

Those that vote have to go forth and fight the wars themselves.

Happy Trails...

Starship Troopers

Read the book "Starship Troopers" by Robert A. Heinlein.  The movie was based loosely, very loosely, on the book.  The novel was one of the best social commentaries ever printed, and it's a heck of a good story too.  The movie, unfortunately, was so bad that Heinlein's widow wouldn't let them use his name in the title.  The film makes the characters look like some sort of fascist storm troopers instead of the defenders of their civilization.

Perhaps we should employ

Perhaps we should employ the corporate form of voting where your vote is proportional to the size of your financial contribution to America. After all, if it is our money then those whose money it is should have the say. If you contribute nothing, then you have no vote. Wouldn't this be a different country then. Think of how willing anyone who actually cared about the country would be more anxious to contribute. Just think how different politics would be.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31

Interesting you raise that

Interesting you raise that since at the beginning of the Republic only property owners could vote, in 1850 that requirement was abolished (just before the Civil War). What did the founding fathers have in mind when they intentionally limited the right to vote to land owners?  If they had dropped the white and male requirments it would be a reasonable start in demanding those who pay the taxes be the ones making the decisions on how they were spent.

Wasn't the major point of the Revolution over the founding the US the idea that people who are financially required to support the State be included in the decision making process of how it is spent?  On the flip side, isn't it disenfrancisement to include people who don't contribute to dilute the votes of those who have to pay?  When politicians can manipulate the number of voters in getting 50% plus one to financially benefit from a minority of voters via taxation, then what we have is a violation of the Rights of the Minority.  Wasn't one of the premises of the US Republic, Majority Rule with the protection of the Rights of the Minority????

Obama and the Dems claim the rich/wealthy have to pay more than the 70% of the taxes they are paying now and since they are clearly the minority in this country how is it constitutional to pay proportionally more than the next person?  Let's ask this question, what will the Dems do if the rich they so despise decide to move the bulk of their assets offshore????

 The argument  for not

The argument  for not allowing women to vote is simple in that women as a general rule think and make decisions emotionally rather than factually. Of course there is aways exception to the rule. Emotional thinking opens up the door to casting ballots based on Kennedy's charm or slick Willie's "I feel your pain" bottom lip biting, and Barry's empty rhetoric of hope, and nothing of executive or legislative accomplishment. Liberalism itself is based on emotions. The founding father's were onto somthing, just as in the case that only property owners were allowed to vote at the founding of the republic.

I don't have a problem with

I don't have a problem with his "talking points" comment, but he shouldn't have gotten personal.

She was clearly on the TP....Bush and the Republicans "ruined" the economy (but they never say how....) and then she apparently remembered that the Democrats have been in charge for the past two years so she had to do a quick ad lib in there.

let em vote

But don't let them lead. the Bible is very clear on this point.

That is why their is so much confusion is christianity they started letting women lead churches. they profess belief in the Bible then forsake obeying it.

Today there is all sorts of crazy things going on that make the church look like it has gone nuts catering to emotional sensationalism via experiencialism. They threw the Bible out with the water and the blood.

The one reason our country is in the turmoil it is in from the elementary schools to the white house is because we have forsaken God and His Word the KJV Bible and embraced Dawin socialism s the course of study. and now we are reaping what this nation has sown. We had our warning on 9/11/2001 but the people failed to hear.

Next stop Armeggedon!

I know he's retired, but he shouldn't have said it.

He stooped lower than her, and she was already pretty low.

And if he was still in

And if he was still in office, he would be resigning tomorrow.

That was a race to the bottom, and Armey won.

I have to disagree, ya'll.

Just because he isn't in office any longer. And I saw more than just this clip. She was being an A #1 bee-yotch. I thought he was restrained. I personally wanted to pop her in the yap. I am sick to death of seeing these righteous feminazis who want to talk about saving people and all this "social issues" bull crap. I am sorry, the only thing socially I saw in the porkulus, was having to do with birth control and STD's. If there had a been a coupon in there for a buy one, get one free abortion, she would have been rendering garments.

I still say he shouldn't

I still say he shouldn't have gotten personal.

That's usually  a liberal's line of attack when they're desperate.

If one doesn't have a problem with that, how can one get mad when they call Rush a fat drug addict?

I don't like personal attacks on either side.

Proverbs for politics...

Proverbs 26

4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly,

5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
or he will be wise in his own eyes.

In this case I think Armey chose the right one, verse 5.

v

11 As a dog returns to its vomit,
so a fool repeats his(or her) folly.

MB

I can't say I am overly fond of personal attacks, myself. If the whackkos stopped tomorrow, then I would say, hey, we need to put a lid on it. Yes, it would be nice if we held ourselves to a higher standard, and most on our side do fairly well, but look where it got Bush. He was damned if he did, damned if he didn't. When we see him, we think he was classy because he rose above the fray, but the vast majority of Americans don't. Because he let the lies and slams stand,  now they are accepted fact to most. I'm just tired of being nice to these people. As for Rush, as you know, I had the same addiction as he. While I'm not famous, I got treated like garbage by people, too. So, I just had to let people do what they were going to do, and when I got tired of it, occasionally tell people to just STHU. It really isn't fun to have people say you deserve to lose your hearing because you become addicted to prescription meds, and just smile and take it.

→ Point being

Armey attacked a woman for being a woman, and threw in  the stereotypical "prattle" to boot.

I doubt Armey would have said the same to Barney Frank.

Ask not what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country - Khalil Gibran

Cool, you are so gallant!

Frankly, I don't see the diff, I don't even think of her as being much of a woman. Barney seems more feminine to me. And she is by no means a shrinking violet. I guess I just look at it as "Alls fair in love and war," and I consider this a war. But I like the fact you are so sweet to the ladies.

Good evening butler

These left-wing extremists are as hard headed and as dumb as the mule they have for a mascot.

Just like the mule you have to smack them between the eyes with a 2x4 now and then to get their attention.

They think they can call us anything and say anything and we are not to respond. I like Army because he isn't going to bend over for anyone.

She had it coming big time.

Thank you

I'm glad someone said it.  At first glance I thought the article was about some awful thing a democrat said... then i realized it was the republican that said it.  If it had been the other way around, I'm sure everyone here would be screaming about the decay of political discourse.  It was rude and shouldn't have been said, no matter what party.

Bos... No it wasn't

Bos...

No it wasn't ...not in my eyes.

Joan Walsh has got away with murder forever, along with msnbc...she is a regular leftist talking head...

I loved every danged minute of it....too bad Armey didn't get much more time in after she started getting her feathers ruffled (as phony as it was), as a woman, if I was sitting against her on a show I would of plucked those feathers of hers off one by one long ago.

Talk about torture....she is.

Btw...I can see already you are gonna' be a lot of fun.

well BT

I'm afraid we're just going to have to disagree then... you and I have very different concepts of what is and is not appropriate in political discourse.

I think what he said was rude and uncalled for.  It would have been just as rude if it was Keith Olberman to Sarah Palin.

That is your opinion. I

That is your opinion.

I have mine.

We aren't talking about either one of them here.

....which for me is nice for a change.

catch ya later alligator.

I applaud the man

These liberals like her need to be put in their place and if it means getting personal and even nasty with them, so be it. I am so tired of Republicans being apologists, say what you mean and mean what you say and don't back down, no matter what.

Too often Republicans show weakness in the face of liberalism, maybe the tide is beginning to shift, one can only hope.

First off

If the economy had been wrecked by a Republican, we would know his name because his carcus would be hanging outside of the Manhatten PRAVADA offices. So that is a baldface lie.

Second sounds like a PRAVDA reporter to me.

Stand up for America.

Oh My!

Poitics are personal.  but it is ok for Dems to politic against Rush but it would be considered Un-patriotic to politic if your a Republican.  Rush is more patriotic that Chris "the fairy" Matthews.

The Humpty Dumpty created by the Democrates over the last 16 years, (Yeah W was in office for 8 of them but the Dems have been behind the economic mess we are in.) has killed this country's industry, its Technology, and it economy. they have destroyed its very heart. and now it is going to fall and all of Obama's leg shaking, awe inspired preprogramed brain washed simpletons wont be able to put humpty together or back up on the wall.

the end of the world as we know it.  socialism is just around the corner.  that will be their transplant.

She's a typical lib.

She wants to speak in rhetoric and ignore the specifics of the debate. She feels that just because the "economy is a wreck and "Obama has a mandate" that any piece of cow poo that he serves up is not to be questioned.

Dick Armey was raining on her new utopia and she did not like it.Ha Ha!

Because with a name like Obama... you know it has to be good.

Fallling on the ground laughing --- a lot

These folks are funny. Do we all really care what they think of Rush Limbaugh. Isn't it even funnier that they make such a big deal out of someone that is supposedly 'no contest' for the dems. Well if ElRushbo was of no contest then they would not be spending so much time on this one person now would they. They are shaking in their boots. If you think this is scary wait until Sarah Palin shows her PAC strength and kicks butt and takes numbers later...they are a bunch of winers and crybabies if I have ever seen one.

Good points.

Especially about the "crybabies" and being scared of SP.

Dear Joan Walsh, One, the

Dear Joan Walsh,

One, the election is over. Your side won. You can stop the lying, anti-Bush rhetoric now.

Two, get a clue. This is not a stimulus bill, unless you're talking about the sex-related pork. It is nothing more than a spending bill, much of which doesn't start until 1-2 years from now. So much for needing immediate relief.

Three, you are a moron. The posters here who said this was a race to the bottom are wrong. You and your party won that race a long time ago.

Four, take your social justice nonsense and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Sincerely,

Me

→ Your opinion

Yes, you have a right to that opinion, just as the left has a right to the opinion that men are unnecessary components to raising children.

Armey didn't need to introduce his sexism into the argument, regardless of the ludicrous nature of her point.

Just my opinion.

Yeah, you're right, calling

Yeah, you're right, calling a woman a loudmouth is so the same as saying men are unnecessary when it comes to raising children, lol.

He didn't introduce sexism, you did. Nowhere did he criticize her for being a woman, her criticized her for being a partisan hack.

Mark, Mark, Mark!!! I was

Mark, Mark, Mark!!!

I was going to post to you today about Norah and Pence...then this....I am not kidding...I asked Noel earlier where you were and hoped you were okay because you usually cover msnbc...and I am just finally getting my toes in the water again watching some of the msnbc blathering tools....I have missed you.

Anyway, I said I wasn't going to watch this segment earlier, but I did....and I LOVED what Armey told Walsh...it is about time someone told one of those NAGS OFF...I am so sick of her, yet they act so miffed, well yeah, they are, because rarely does anyone dare to fight back or criticize....about time too!

Matthews at the end trying to get a dig in to Armey about Clinton and the point Armey made about the Welfare bill was just oh so classy...typical Chris.

Please, the rest of you with 'R's behind your name that haven't grown a spine yet....look and listen, I think they are finally realizing all the snail mail, emails, aren't raking in any $$$ for them, they are getting told what we feel out here,  plus the Capitol Hill phone lines being lit up....and of course conservative talkers like Rush.

Poor, poor arrogant Joan, got her nose in the air batted down some.

Job well done Dick!

Just listened to the clip… Armey’s comments were nasty, personal, inappropriate, and I enjoyed every word.

Armey reminds me a little of Howard Stern…. he says what he thinks and appears not to worry about consequences.

More Republicans should label the prattle

like Armey did.

Democrats like to begin "discussions" by pretending that their distorted views reflect reality and that everyone who's smart (or savvy or kind-hearted) agrees with them.

They should not be allowed to get away with this.

Well, it's about time someone put this obnoxious shrew in her place.  I'm so sick and tired of the old saw that this kind of thing "cheapens debate".  Liberal stooges like Joan Walsh have been employing angry personal attacks as a part of debate for some time now...with impunity...it's about time she got a little back.  No doubt that she and The View & NOW hyenas will demand some sort of apology from Armey (watch for excessive blinking resembling Morse Code if he does).  Stand strong, Congressman Armey, they deserve nothing but contempt.

Hmmmm---

Now that was a revealing clip, the woman has a mental disorder.

She cares about jobs, really, as there continue to be job losses that all the stimulus plans in the world aren't going to curtail. Smart stimulus would be tax cuts. Tax cuts would create immediate results. Cuts for business, allowing retention of employees, cuts for citizens allowing enhanced purchasing power. Without tax cuts the economic downturn will be extended unnecessarily for the sake of Democrat pork.
