Smith Wants Israel Stopped

We all know that for months, Harry Smith has been demanding that the international community force Hamas to stop shooting thousands of rockets into civilian areas of Israel. So Smith speaks with unique moral authority now in calling for Israel to be stopped.

Oh, wait. As far as I know, Smith never uttered a peep of protest over the Hamas bombardment of Israel.  But that didn't prevent the Early Show host from demanding this morning that someone in the US stand up to stop Israel from doing what no one else could or would. Smith served up some heaping hyperbole to make his case, claiming there is "no" food, water or electricity in Gaza.

View video here.

Smith's guest was NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
HARRY SMITH: You were in Israel last weekend. UN has suspended aid operations, the Red Cross has suspended aid operations.  There's no electricity, there's no food, there's no water. There's a civilian humanitarian crisis there. The UN has said it's time for a resolution even without the United States's vote.  When does someone in this country stand up and say: it's time to stop?

BLOOMBERG: .  . . The truth of the matter is, there's this terrorist organization lobbing rockets, killing people. Think about this Harry. If we were attacked, if somebody started lobbing rockets to us, what would we do?  We'd have to defend ourselves.  That's what the Israelis are doing.
Is that really so hard for Smith to see?

Apparently it IS that hard

Apparently it IS that hard for Harry to see.

Israel is allowed to defend herself, but only up to the point where it might cause discomfort for the Palestinians.

The UN has said it's time for a resolution even without the United States's vote.

WTH!!!!

Did the UN ever propose ignoring the vote of any other country?????

When does someone in this country stand up and say: it's time to stop? - Smith

They have, Harry.  Oh wait!  You mean to Israel!!  Sorry.

Wow, it's been a rough week

Wow, it's been a rough week for poor ole Harry.  First he's trying to put Ann Coulter on a cross, and now he's trying to get a cease fire in Gaza.  Can you imagine the emotional sessions with his therapist? Whew!

I think Harry has become the

I think Harry has become the new "Chris Matthews" here at Newsbusters.  He lands here about every day.   One day these folks are going to realize that they no longer can get away with saying these things without being held accountable (thanks to Newsbusters and others).

Smith is absolutely on the

Smith is absolutely on the wrong side of every issue he brings up, isn't he? What a toad.

For liberal Democrats and the MSM, everything is crisis, chaos, calamity and catastrophe. And only the government has the solution.

What if Israel used the same tactics as the 'palestinians'?

How about that for every Kasam rocket fired into Israel, the IDF sends over an Apache and randomly fires a rocket into Gaza? That would be fair, right? And for every Gad rocket, Israel uses a Hellfire missle. Every suicide bomber gets an unaimed artillery shell.

Harry Smith is an idiotic 'professional' victim sympathizer. He never ever critisizes the Islamofascists only Israel when she defends herself.

The UN can vote all they want. Everybody knows that the US is the only country that will actually DO anything based on a UNSC resolution. All the other countries have to be goaded and cajoled and bribed into joining us if we want help. Otherwise they will vote on a resolution and then go home and sleep soundly in their nice comfortable beds in their luxury hotel. If the US doesn't want to do anything, then nothing will get done.

Hey, I got the wrong "CHANGE"!

Alan Keyes / Sarah Palin - 2012

Actually, C5, that's a

Actually, C5, that's a really good idea.  Israel is really slitting it's own throat in the public eye by conducting 'Cast Lead' as they are.  Those crying out against Israel have a point (and Israel is handing it to them!).  Gaza is much like West Berlin, with no airlift (there isn't even an airport!).  The steady trickle of rockets launched by the terrorists generally goes unnoticed, while the IDF response is like a flash flood.  Apparently they didn't learn any lessons from their recent incursion into Lebanon.  While Israel is justified to take action, they're really making a botched job of it by comitting some huge, glaring mistakes.

Put C5 in charge.

Actually there is no comparison with West Berlin

First of all, the West Berliners weren't continually launching thousands of rockets into the Soviet occupied zone.

Second, if they had, the Soviets would have levelled what little was left of West Berlin with no regard of who was in the way.

Gaza does in fact have an "international" airport, it's just that it's not operational.  And even if it were operational, do you think the Saudis, Iranians, or any other Muslim state that cries so much for the Palestinians would actually dirty their hands or spend any money delivering supplies?  That's a job for the UN and the Great Satan.

And unlike West Berlin, Gaza is NOT totally surrounded by the enemy--it has a border with Egypt, you know, a fairly well known non-Jewish country.

But even the Egyptians can't stand Hamas and have closed the border crossings so the Palestinians have to smuggle everything from food to weapons in by tunnel.

True, rockets weren't

True, rockets weren't involved in Berlin, but the spirit is much the same.  Gaza has no airport whatsoever.  Gaza International was ripped up by the IDF in 2001.  The bulk of their border is with Israel, considered a hostile enemy.  They have no port, just a tiny marina.  Egypt's border is tiny, and their attitude is cold toward Gaza.  The only way in and out is through one Egyptian and five Israeli portals.

Like Berlin, Gaza is cut off from it's supporters and peers.  The 400k people who live there, are essentially trapped in an area about the same size as Queens, NY.  It's well documented that Hamas and their kind fight dirty, and trapped rats are doubly dangerous.

The 'Palestinians' voted Hamas into faux-power because Hamas positions itself as their only hope (sound familiar?).  Blowing up schools (even if they are bomb factories!), shutting off power, water, sewer, communications, etc, drives the populace straight into the hands of Hamas.  This is where the 'they're all guilty because they voted for Hamas' argument looses all credibility.  Gazans have no choice, they're backed into a corner (literally).

If Israel had limited their action to cutting the smuggeling tunnels and targeting 'Hamas', they'd have tons of support.  All Hamas has to do is parade some children's coffins through the street and the World comes a cryin'.  The IDF is handing Hamas all the propaganda material they need.  It's a huge relations blunder.  It upsets me to see Israel make such rookie mistakes.

Drive them straight into

Drive them straight into Hamas' dead hand. Gaza elected Hamas, Gaza is Hamas

Next time you visit earth bring your brain

When Israel inhabited Gaza they built farms and were prosperous.

Now the arabs live there groveling in the sand complaining that they are starving. They do nothing to grow food and spend all their time and money making rockets to fire at Israelite cities.

Wake up and smell the stink of Islamist extremists.

"...they built farms and

"...they built farms and were prosperous."

Indeed they did.

They were also world-class growers of flowers and exported them all over the world. If you look at the Gaza area on Google Earth you can actually find the greenhouses (hundreds of them) the Jewish farmers built and maintained to grow these flowers.

When Israel handed over Gaza to the Palestinians, it offered to teach them how to use these greenhouses, grow the flowers, export them etc. The Palestians said NO!

In a few weeks, most of the greenhouses had been damaged or destroyed altogether by the Palestinians.

For liberal Democrats and the MSM, everything is crisis, chaos, calamity and catastrophe. And only the government has the solution.

"Most of the greenhouses had been damaged or destroyed..."

...except of course the ones the Palis used to hide their rocket launchers.

The Israelis took care of those quickly enough though.

Coco What does farming

Coco

What does farming have to with the IDF's rookie blunders?  They're earning the bad press by trying to smash flies with big hammers.  This is an analysis of media bias, and my point is that Israel is feeding said bias.

I'm not trying to apologize for the Arabs, just stating objective facts.  The way Israel is conducting this operation is ensuring that the conflict will have no end.  The only other option, as many have suggested, is to wipe them all out.  Do you think wiping out 400,000 people wouldn't be viewed as genocide?  Talk about lending credibility to te enemy.  The key to successful propaganda (like humor and lies) is that it contains a kernel of truth.  The IDF is sowing a lot of kernels.  It's so fundamental that it just astonishes me to see it botched so badly.

They're earning the bad

They're earning the bad press by trying to smash flies with big hammers.

I disagree.  In fact, the IDF is using smaller, more precise warheads on its strikes than the Palis are when they fire the 122mm varient unguided rockets they have been pummeling southwesten Israel with.

A better analogy is that the Palis have been dumping unguided hammers on top of the Isrealis from high altitude while the IDF has been accurately chiseling away at the Palis where ever and when ever they appear.

The IDF is accurate, the Palis are not nor do they care.

The way Israel is conducting this operation is ensuring that the conflict will have no end.

I once again disagree.  One of the key things the west does not understand about the Arabic mindset is that it prizes and respects strength.  The IDF sitting back and watching rockets streak over the border and doing NOTHING simply egged on the Pali's who see it as a sign of inferiority.

SLAMMING Hamas HARD (but precisely such is what is happening now) weakens Hamas in the eyes of the Arabic world.

Please see the Hezzi's victory last year.  Isreal tried to pussy foot around it and lost.  Strength is prized, sadly restraint is not.

Please refer to "Hama Rules" for example.

The key to successful propaganda (like humor and lies) is that it contains a kernel of truth.

No, the total control of all message flowing to the audience is key.

If your postion were correct, Obama would have been recognized as a dilitante, Palin as an able executive, Arafat as a thug terrorist, and Bush as a Genius in defense issues.  Each has a kernal of truth, but if the message does not get out, then all is for nought.

The IDF is sowing a lot of kernels.

Which contradicts your point above.  Isreal has the truth on their side, but cannot communicate the message due to pro-Pali bias.

you're right spiff

Come to think of it, I believe our invasion of Afghanistan to find bin Laden was a bit like smashing flies with hammers! Here these poor Al Qaeda guys saved up for five years and used all of their resources just to hijack four planes and smash a couple buildings. Then we invaded their little country with jets, tanks, and thousands of troops.

Has it never occured to you that maybe Israel's actions have inhibited bad guys from orchestrating any bigger assaults? Maybe they've destroyed enough of Hamas' infrastructure to keep them from lobbing rockets all the way to Tel Aviv?

Hamas apologists always amaze me with their ability to see the world through the most obtuse eyes.

I'm a typical white person.

→ A clue candance

When they say "it's not about the money", bet the farm. . . It's about the money

When you read "I'm not trying to apologize for the Arabs", trust your instincts.

It's an apologetic disclaimer akin to "not that there's anything wrong with it"

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Funny you should mention

Funny you should mention Afghanistan, candance.  The only comparison is that Israel is attacking Gaza with more force than the US used against Talibanistan!  C5 has the right idea.  C5 is smarter than the IDF!  A lower key, limited response on the part of the IDF would almost certainly yield better results on all fronts.

There's a huge difference in being an apologist, and being analytical.  Calling me an apologist is like calling conservatives facists.  It's simply has no merit.

SpacemanSpiff. Just some

SpacemanSpiff.

Just some notes.

The attack that drove the Taliban out of of Afghanistan consisted of a handful of SF ODA, a couple of CIA Ops guys, and THOUSANDS of Northern Alliance Afghans formerly under Ahmad Shah Massoud who were fighting back after his assasination.

estimates of Northern Alliance numbers are sketchy, but probably range from 35,000 to 40,000 towards the end of their march south into Taliban country.

THe Northern Alliance, was equipped with rudimentary equipment left over from the post Soviet occupation (mostly T-55 tanks etc) and heavily depended on US air strength.

Isreal does not have a like force of rebels on the ground to support, thus must use its own troops, but I doubt the total force of Isreal is larger than the force of the combined US/UK/Northern ALliance element.

A lower key, limited response on the part of the IDF would almost certainly yield better results on all fronts.

This has not been proven out by previous efforts, all of which have been smaller in nature and failed because they did not sufficiently impress the Arabic mindset that prizes overwhleming force.

Please, I refer you to Hama Rules.  http://www.mafhoum.com/press2/63P58.htm

really spiff?

A low key reaction would get them better results? Since when? In the past years Israel has withdrawn from Gaza, allowed Hamas to take over the government there, and turned a blind eye to their activities. And Hamas used all that time to buy more rockets.

David Gregory on NBC just got done saying that Palestinians take advantage of cease fires not to work toward peace, but to continue building their arsenal knowing Israel won't strike them right away. That wasn't Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh - that was NBC news.

And coco's farming point was dead on. Palestinians would have us believe they are being starved and oppressed because of Israel and this simply isn't true. Israel handed them a beautiful, prosperous Gaza and agreed to back off - and within months they uprooted every symbol of a western economy. Then they filled their government with Hamas goons, funded an arsenal of rockets to lob at their unwitting neighbor, and cried about being poor as soon as the world found out.

Some of the oldest propaganda tricks in history. Pity people today still fall for them.

Jan. 1 Attack By CIA Killed Two Leaders Of Al-Qaeda

A New Year's Day CIA strike in northern Pakistan killed two top al-Qaeda members long sought by the United States, including the man believed to be behind September's deadly suicide bombing at a Marriott hotel in the Pakistani capital, U.S. counterterrorism officials confirmed yesterday.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/08/AR2009010803110.html?hpid=topnews

No doubt Harriet is outraged by this and thinks these two should've been arrested and read their Miranda rights.

He'll make sure those involved are hauled in front of the world court on war crimes charges.

It was all GWB's fault because of our invasion of Iraq.

It was all GWB's fault because we pissed them with Abu Ghraib (right, so why aren't terrorists bombing Cairo, Damascus, Riyadh, and Khartoum on a nightly basis....)

It was all GWB's fault because we hold the GITMO detainees instead of immediately executing them on the battlefield as nealry every other country would have.

It is all so farcical....

I'm sure Eric Holder will help with this too.

Seashell - on Eric Holder

in response to what Joe Klein said (See Brent Baker's ealier post on Klein) here:

..when he signed a memorandum stating that the Third Geneva Convention -- the one regarding the treatment of enemy prisoners taken in wartime -- did not apply to members of al-Qaeda or the Taliban. That signature led directly to the abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo Bay. It was his single most callous and despicable act. It stands at the heart of the national embarrassment that was his presidency...

Son-of-a-gun. Seems as if he had rather broad support for that view - ask Obama's AG, Holder.

Eric Holder, Obama's choice for Attorney General, in a CNN interview in January, 2002 (as recalled by the WSJ) - my bold:

One of the things we clearly want to do with these prisoners is to have an ability to interrogate them and find out what their future plans might be, where other cells are located; under the Geneva Convention that you are really limited in the amount of information that you can elicit from people.

It seems to me that given the way in which they have conducted themselves, however, that they are not, in fact, people entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention. They are not prisoners of war. If, for instance, Mohamed Atta had survived the attack on the World Trade Center, would we now be calling him a prisoner of war? I think not. Should Zacarias Moussaoui be called a prisoner of war? Again, I think not.

So - Will Holder change his mind now that the media expects it of him?

It will be interesting to how Panetta reconciles his belief that torture is unacceptable under any circumstances with his agency's increasing proficiency at picking off terrorist leaders in Pakistan--does he tell his folks not to pull the trigger or does he let them continue to pick them using the "logic" that taking them out is better than capturing them and getting intel from them?

Who cares what you want or think smith, Israel has the right to defend itself from these murderous b*stards. I stopped caring a long time ago about the palestinians, that includes the men, women and yes, their children. These so-called parents plant the seeds of hate toward Israel practically at birth and the hate grows from there, if the palestinians teach their children to be martyrs and to kill Jews, why should I or anyone else care when they are killed, they stopped being innocent when they pick up that first kalashnikov and point it at a Jew, or strap on that suicide bomb belt and walk into a Jewish market.

My advice to Israel is do whatever it takes for as long as it takes, bomb them out, burn them out, starve them out, but DO NOT GIVE UP OR GIVE IN! cease fires and peace treaties mean nothing to them and will not end their attacks or their hatred towards you.

Smith Is A Talking Bubble Head

Ann Coulter's evisceration of Smith earlier this week exposed his shallow, indoctrinated mind. He's a gasbag who can only successfully shoot his mouth off when not being challenged. This is sickening; Michael Bloomberg blew Smith away with the most simple of observances: Wouldn't we respond to an enemy lobbing rockets into America?

How in God's name can Smith and the other MSM have followers?

Hey Harry, you are NOT a diplomat!

Harry Smith is yet another arrogant blowhard journalist who thinks he, and not the President or Congress, can make foreign policy. Hey Harry! You're supposed to report about a President's foreign policy, not dictate to him what to do! And one wonders why journalists have a 12% approval rating! Yeesh!

Harry Smith reflects the global media which has always been anti-Israel. The 6500 rockets that were fired into Israel by Hamas by Israel without retaliation is of no consequence to anti-Semites like Smith. As Ralph Peters of the NY post said, "dead jews are not news."

There was a Rasmussen Poll taken that showed that 61% of Republicans supported Israel's actions while only 31% of Democrats did.

I think American Jews are finally going to wake up once Heir Obama enters office and starts treating Hamas as equal partners to Israel.

There was a report that Bloomberg is seeking to become a Republican again.

They ought to be A) shot or B) Shot and thrown out of our country.  Sooner or later someone is going to have to make a stand.  This country shouldn't have to put up with much more of this crap.

"Libs never let you down. You don't have to talk to one very long before the stupid comes out."

The Islamo-fascists don't need Al-Jazeera-they have Harry Smith

I think its long past time CBS retired this freedom-hating, racist propagandist for America's enemies once and for all. This twisted, profoundly confused man is a disgrace and an embarrassment to any rational-thinking person.

Given his stated views on homosexual "marriage," I would estimate Harry's life expectancy to be about three minutes should he find himself dropped in amongst a group of his his precious, peaceful practitioners of the "religion" of Islam.

I am pretty sure they would ignore his shrill cries of protest "Hey, I'm on your side!" when that pencil-neck of his was forcefully lowered over the chopping block.
