Ain't this post-racial period great? Here we have one of the more famous members of the Black Congressional Caucus accusing Senate Democrats of threatening to act like Orville Faubus, George Wallace and perhaps the most iconic of segregationists, Bull Connor.
Bobby Rush, the former Black Panther who is now a congressman from Chicago, levelled his accusation on the CBS Early Show this morning in reaction to the letter signed by all 50 Senate Democrats declaring that they would not seat Roland Burris, the African-American that Gov. Rod Blagojevich yesterday named to take Barack Obama's Senate seat.
MAGGIE RODRIGUEZ: Yesterday we heard you say they shouldn't hang and lynch the appointee to punish the appointor. But do you believe this is the way the only African-American senator should be seated, tainted rightly or not by a scandal, and against the objections of most of his own party?
BOBBY RUSH: Well, let me just say this. You know, the recent history of our nation has shown us that sometimes there can be individuals and there can be situations where schoolchildren, where you had officials standing in the doorway of schoolchildren. I'm talking about Orville Faubus back in 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas. I'm talking about George Wallace. Bull Connors [sic]. And I'm sure that the U.S. Senate don't want to see themselves placed in the same position.
RODRIGUEZ: But it's not just the Senate, congressman, it's Barack Obama, who is African-American, also, who disagrees with this.
RUSH: Well, I think that what needs to happen now is that all these folks who are opposed to Governor Blagojevich, they need to take a chill pill. We're still a nation of laws. And I believe that Roland Burris and Governor Blagojevich, they're on solid constitutional grounds in terms of him being selected. I think the U.S. Senate will have to accept him.
Rush stopped short of lumping Pres.-elect Obama with the fire-hose wielders of the Senate. But in his heart of hearts, might Rush not be revelling in causing this headache for someone who had the temerity to [unsuccessfully] primary him for his congressional seat in 2000—an ambitious up-and-comer by the name of . . . . Barack Obama?
Somehow I don't think this is what the MSM had in mind in the run-up to the inauguration of The One.

Wed, 12/31/2008 - 08:57 ET by flyingmonkeyI don't think Bobby Rush is trying to stick any pins into the Affirmative Action Hero. Roland Burris is a long time Chicago political figure going back to the first Mayor Daley. This is the good ole boys network of Chicago politics and Bobby Rush just wants a longtime friend in.
Bobby Rush belonged to the Black Panthers who created Black Liberation Theology which is preached at Trinity United by Jeremiah Wright whose favorite son is Barack Obama. See, just one big, happy family.

Wed, 12/31/2008 - 08:58 ET by Indiana JoeIf Rush isn't careful, he's going to blow the lid off the long-held secret that the Democrats were, and always have been, the party of segregation, Jim Crow, and the KKK.

Our leadership appointment process has really been taken to the cleaners lately. First, with the sham of a Presidential election where unknown donors helped purchase, and the MSM helped secure Obama's victory... now with an IL-D governor mired in quid pro quo scandal actually going forward and picking Obama's replacement and fellow good-ole-boys defending the decision.
I must say, congrats to the Senate Dems for doing the right thing here. However, my congrats can be withdrawn if they fail to stick by their position and bow to the "pressure" of ensuring a black man a Senate seat.

Hold on there Hoss, the Senate has no authority not to seat him if he is a citizen of the state and of voting age. The reasons that they dont like teh outcome is not acceptable. Now they could trumph up some charges and go from there but it has to pass constitutional muster. Of course the constitution has been put on teh side of teh road in the POTUS election so far with BO not having to produce a BC.

Wed, 12/31/2008 - 11:46 ET by CaringwhiteguyI shouldn't help all those lefty frauds out, but there is an easy way to "solve" this "Black Senate Seat" issue and slap down Blago at the same time.
It's called "Governor Paterson to the Rescue". Paterson appoints a black person (virtually any black pol in New York State will do) to the Hillary seat coveted by Sweet Caroline. This also keeps New York State from the embarassment that would befall it should Mrs. Schlossberg be appointed.
Then Harry and his minions can refuse to seat Blago's appointee. The Senate Dems can't be called racists by anyone other than a few Black Liberation hacks from the south side of Chicago.

And your problem with that is...?
For years, we have been screaming about the hypocracy of the DRats "standing in the schoolhouse door" (school vouchers), and how they constantly (and often unfairly) play the race card on us. So, when two of their own (Rush and Blago) turn the bombsights on the real race-baiting party, dropping a bunker-buster on Dingy Harry, this begs the question:
And just what is your problem, exactly?

As a Strict Constructionist, I have two issues that are related:
Also, Burris said he is taking the Seat only as a caretaker, not running for re-election in 2010. For the GOP, this remains their best hope to take the seat. In other words, if the GOP doesn't support Burris, then they just may get what they wish for: An appointment of someone who will run as an incumbent in 2010.
My best advice to my fellow Conservatives: Just sit back with the popcorn and enjoy the fun as the Democrats go into their all-too-frequent "circular firing squad" mode!

Blago & Burris
Wed, 12/31/2008 - 10:39 ET by mdgilesSo. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the working model in this country is still innocent until proven guilty, isn't it? Which means that, until they actually impeach Blago, they really can't prevent him from performing his duties. One of which is to appoint someone to fill a senatorial vacancy. And as I understand it, Burris has a clean record (they haven't caught him yet) in his stints in the Illinois state government. So what is the problem. As much as I hate to admit it, the "former" Black Panther is right. The attempt to stop Burris from being seated stinks.
Now we understand that "Dingy Harry and his Klan of Fifty" are liberals, and thus have no regard for, nor would they have any compunction about riding roughshod over, the law. I just hope that the Republicans have the good sense to stay clear of the controversy, or to simply say the nominee meets the Constitutional parameters. In no event should they even allowed themselves to be tricked into doing the Dems, dirty work for them. If it comes to a vote, the Reps should vote right along party lines to seat him (watch though, the RINO's - as usual - will kill us).

Precedence for not seating
Wed, 12/31/2008 - 10:44 ET by retroconI think a recent Coulter column talked about 1974, when the [Dem] Senate refused to seat the [Rep] state certified winner of a New Hampshire senate seat... and 1984, when the [Dem] House refused to seat the [Rep] state certified winner of an Indiana congressional seat.
You have to keep in mind that the U.S. Constitution has no [zip, zero, nada, none, nothing, empty set] meaning to liberals and most democrats. It's a piece of paper that is useful to them when they can twist the words to their benefit, and flushable when they cannot.
So, assuming this guy is certified by the state, the dems will do whatever they want, regardless of constitutionality... just as they will steal Colemans seat up north.
The irony is, of course, that they have plenty of corrupt dems already in the house and senate, maybe they're afraid of the Chicago machine taking over their action (especially now that thay have the POTUS).

Wed, 12/31/2008 - 11:00 ET by mattmMaybe these race-mongering radicals will piss off the Democrats enough to wake them up to the utter stupidity of trying to placate people who only exist to complain about how their grandparents were treated and use that as and excuse for demanding favoritistic treatment and government handouts. Thu, 01/01/2009 - 08:47 ET by mizflame98A black man has been elected to the highest office of the most powerful nation in the world. Anyone playing the race card in this country just shows his or her ass from this point on and should not be taken seriously (not that I took them seriously before).
Prime example...
My sister is a police officer that works central booking. A thug that was locked up had the gall to complain that the reason why he's in the predicament he's in is because he's black and he is being held back by "the man". My sister sternly reminded this piece of work that "the man" is now black and his excuses are from this point on null & void.
That argument doesn't only work for the average thug on the street but it could work for former black panther congressmen also. This idiot can't possibly be serious when he pulls the race card; especially when he's talking about a position that was held by a black man before said black man became the president elect.
The race card is null & void from this point out.

The well of pawns dried up considerable wheh blacks came out in record numbers to elect Obama. The only ones they can blame are the Kenyans or themselves and I doubt Kenya is going to take the blame for Obama if he screws up.
The only thing the black radicals will accomplish is showing the world how much of fools they really are, only this time they won't garner the same white guilt they once did. The reason Rush sounds like
Wed, 12/31/2008 - 16:38 ET by thebutlerdiditThe reason Rush sounds like he does is because he has a rare form of cancer, and has recently had a tumor removed from his jaw. However, I personally have always thought he sounded like Grady from Sanford and Son. And no, I don't mean that in a racist way, that's just who he reminds me of, speechwise and intellect. MotherBelt said that he should have been asked about why he used "lynch" in the presser, but he also used the word "hang." If you haven't seen the clip, I would have to say, it seems like race-baiting. His only arguement kept being there were no AAs and that why would anyone deny that one was needed. It was all kinds of wrong. He didn't need to go there, or where he went today. I think he needs to G-O.

Wednesday, December 31, 2008
U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush said just three weeks ago that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has "no moral basis" to appoint someone to fill Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat -- a stark contrast to his endorsement of Blagojevich's appointment on Tuesday.
Rush joined Blagojevich at his press conference in Chicago to support the pick of Roland Burris, a former state attorney general. Rush said Burris, who is black, would fill the racial void left by Obama as the only black member of the U.S. Senate.
"This is a good decision. Roland Burris is worthy. He has not, in 40 years of public service, had one iota of taint on his record as a public servant," Rush said.
But the Democratic congressman from Illinois expressed a different view on Dec. 9, the day Blagojevich was arrested and accused of trying to sell Obama's seat.
"His goose is cooked," Rush said of the governor. "He has no moral basis for appointing the next senator from the state of Illinois. ... That person would be as tainted as they could be."
Rush said Blagojevich should not make an appointment, and he added that anybody he appoints would be at a "severe disadvantage" when it comes time to run for election in 2010.
On Tuesday, Rush urged the public not to "hang and lynch" Burris simply because he was appointed by Blagojevich.

Wed, 12/31/2008 - 23:50 ET by thebutlerdiditIt doesn't do much good to do anything else but be entertained. As for Rush, while it is always sad when someone has cancer, this nut has always been a nut, and a particularly nasty one. Like I said before, He couldn't speak plainly or with any sense well before the cancer set in. I saw earlier where Fitz is asking for an extension because he has supposedly had a flood of phone calls and new info coming in. I look at it 2 ways. Either he doesn't have what he hoped he had, and he is scrambling to put it together, dredging, hoping to catch something in his net. Or, option 2, the preferrable one, is that he is getting in soooo much info he just doesn't know who to get first. I wonder if every defense lawyer in Chi town has been on these guy's speed dial? I can't help but picture some lawmaker's lawyer ringing up Fitz, asking if he had any taped convos between his client and Blago? And is there any way to make a deal? maybe this is the new stimulus for Chicago, massive hiring of the lawyers!
Post-Racial Era My Ass
Thu, 01/01/2009 - 10:52 ET by EricTheRedIt's not surprising at all that Bobby Rush is playing the race card like a Vegas hustler. It is well-known that the Illinois establishment were planning on keeping Obama's seat an African-American (i.e., affirmative action) seat. It's never about merit, it's all about race/gender/etc. quotas. So, when Rush's selection faces opposition, even by Democrats, it's because they're all racists.
In a nutshell: his selection was based on race. So his oppositions must also be based on race.
This is how liberals have always thought. Why in this post-racial era should they think any differently?
