Mika Got Mugged

If the definition of a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged, look for Mika Brzezinski to start sounding like Pat Buchanan. The big news on Morning Joe today is that Mika got mugged.  Not mugged by reality.  Mugged mugged.  The MJ co-host was outside her Washington, DC hotel early this morning, waiting for the car to take her to the studio, when a man approached and told her to give him $20 "and you won't get hurt."  Mika gave him everything she had–$6–and the man went away.

Mika didn't want the news to be mentioned, but Joe Scarborough insisted.  Brzezinski was ever the good trouper, repeatedly insisting everything was fine and suggesting the panel move on to other matters. But Scarborough was furious that the hotel, pointedly unnamed but apparently prominent, provided no security for a guest waiting right outside its doors.

Mika's conversion to conservativsm apparently hasn't quite kicked in yet, as she actually made excuses for her attacker: "he just probably needed the money" and "these are desperate times." Joe was in a much less forgiving mood, saying his and Buchanan's response would have been "yes, I've got $20 for all of you" quoting Bernie Goetz just before he famously shot the men attempting to mug him in a NYC subway years ago.  Buchanan added the Goetz classic: "here's another."

We're thankful Mika was unharmed, and salute the Morning Joer's moxie.

Your attitude towards felons as "just probably needed the money" would fill the heart of any defense attorney with glee.

What the heck, Scott Peterson just needed the freedom.

Muggable Mika?

Stockholm Syndrome anyone?  Her body language was not consistent with her words. She looked upset.

BTW -- This mugger is probably on the hotel security camera Mika. Better he be arrested than hurt someone.

After Visiting Many Porn Sites

I finally figured out what LYDSEXICS UNTIE means. And yes, I feel sutdipde.

Don't feel too bad...

It took me couple days to figure it out and I'm a frickin' GENIUS. (the funny part is my brain was rescrambling it as lydsexics unite, which threw me off!)

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

I'm glad Mika wasn't hurt,

I'm glad Mika wasn't hurt, but she needs an attitude adjustment, after the fact. She's lucky he didn't beat her for not having the amount he demanded!

Yeah, he "needed the money" to buy food for his family, including Tiny Tim, I guess.

Forgiving is one thing, making excuses for him is something else.

good thing he only wanted pocket money...

...instead of forcing her at knifepoint to go to the ATM and empty it. Or leading her somewhere and getting what he wanted in "alternate currency"

As a resident of Northern Virginia, this is just a little too common. But what do you expect in a city like DC with all of it's crazy laws.

Mark's post here shows how much better conservatives and libertarians are. If Rush or Laura had been mugged the lefties would be gloating.

→ Good point

These are the values Mika and her ideology have fostered.  She should be proud the Pavlovian training of common criminals is so successful.

Man on the street

It being DC, at least the poor pitiful mugger had no fear of having a citizen pull a gun on him and detaining him for the police. He probably just needs some funds to hold him over until the Inaguration so he and his fellow street people can celebrate their changeover from homelessness to government employee.

Joe's a schmuck

For making her talk about this on air. Clearly she was uncomfortable having the conversation. I felt quite bad for her, until, about the 2 mark when she said "maybe he just needed the money".

Sweetie, I know your it does against every grain of your liberal indoctrination, but it's not okay for someone to just take your money!

I hope she filed a police report.

Wait a minute.  You mean

Wait a minute.  You mean that if "I need the money" then I can commit a crime and I won't get into trouble????  How awesome is that!

Ladies and gentlemen, we now see how far a lib will go to spew their ideology.  A crime was commited against her.  It will be a psychological scar that she will carry with her for the rest of her life.  And she is willing to look at the criminal AS THE VICTIM!!!  How dare I have money when this man needs it.  What a load of crap.  Libs need to forget motives.  Criminals should be punished.  And none of this crap of criminals suing their victims.  When a person in a society commits a crime against another person/people in the society, the criminal KNOWINGLY forfeits their rights.  Their rights are not equal to their victim's.  Until we start treating criminals like they should be, we're going to keep getting crooked CEO's and Chicago politicians.

does the excuse only work for money?

because I "need" a new car too! :)

Glad Mika is OK

He asked for a $20 because he's going to buy drugs with it.

Joe, if all Mika had was $6, she might need a raise. See what you can do, will ya?

Same stupid woman

This is the same stupid woman who got mad when Joe pointed out how one firearm can make a difference. Watch on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf8M0m_MAis

So she was alone

In the dark, and a strange man walked up and threatened to hurt her....yeah, she was upset.
Violence goes against a woman's very nature and we're raised to be 'nice'.
Had she been standing there with her child and the man threatened harm to it, however, he would have been lucky to escape with his life.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

Oh, you reminded me of an

Oh, you reminded me of an episode of NCIS--one of my favorites.  Abby, the female lab tech, gets kidnapped by a baddie.  When the team finds the guy's van, high-pitched screams are heard from within as they approach.  When the side door opens, the baddie falls out of the van, screaming like a little girl as Abby holds down the trigger on her Taser, which apparently has its leads lodged not far from said baddie's sensitive bits.

He was lucky--had it been my wife, he'd've had plain lead, not leads, lodged not far from those bits.  She's a helluva shot.

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

Abby is the most interesting

Character on that show. She's got moxie but she's not overly aggressive like Zhiva(sp?).

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

With respects I say you are wrong

"Had she been standing there with her child and the man threatened harm to it, however, he would have been lucky to escape with his life."

And what would she have done? Nothing but take it like the victim she has made herself to be.

As a general rule

A woman's maternal instinct overrides personal fear. Only a very sick and selfish woman would hesitate to fling herself between her child and whatever seeks to harm it.
Personally, I have such a deep and abiding loathing for bullies that I'd be sitting on that man's head before he realised I warn't no pushover.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

I understand what you are trying to say

So she gets between the man and her baby? So what? Now what is she going to do? Suppose that man had been me, 6' - 220# and a lot of muscle? She has to have more than just a mothers feelings to be succesful in protecting her child.

My point is the woman has made herself a victim, she does not believe in the right of citizens to arm themselves. Her attitude of writing the mugging off as he needed the money, all of that makes you a vicitim. Now if it were well known that she carried and this thug new it, would he have approached her so openly? If he knew she might be armed, would he have done it?

s

This reminds me

of a piece of writing that has circulated for years regarding people being of two groups; the sheep and the sheep dog. One does not become a sheep dog overnight especially if they have been a sheep for their entire lives. She demonstrated all the traits and habits of a sheep. First and most obvious she put herself outside at a time of day when few are moving about except the nefarious a--holes that prey on willing victims. The more prudent thing to have done is wait inside the door until the car and driver arrived. I tell my wife all the time how people, men and women make themselves vunerable to being victims by their behavior and inattention to the world around them. How many times have you seen someone in the parking lot talking on the cell phone or digging into their purse for keys or just not paying attention. It is a nasty world out there and there are people who will hurt you if given half a chance. Your job is to be aware of them and if they try to hurt you be trained, prepared to hurt them very badly first. The money is not the issue as that can be replaced but often today they are not content to just take your money. Thank God for the second amendment and the Castle Doctrine.Imagine how differently this would have turned out if she had put a 40 cal in his face and told him to lie on the ground until the police arrived and "he would not be hurt."

Oh, I agree

That she has a victim mentality.
And by 'flinging herself' I meant doing whatever it took to protect her child regardless of personal consequences.
I'm 5'11" and can whip my weight in wildcats so I can't speak for all the petite victims-in-waiting out there, just saying that there are circumstances under which any woman will fight back.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

I was approached one night

I was approached one night in the parking lot as I was leaving work with my 1 year old and 3 year old children by a man who offered to "help" me (reaching for my purse) as I was getting my keys out (my mistake: didn't already have my keys in my hand). I told him no thank you and he kept reaching for my purse anyway so I grabbed his hair with my free hand and slammed his head into the top of my car.  It made a tiny little dent in my car and made him bleed.  He ran away.  I think he was crying.  There are quite a few things you can do if you don't want to be a victim.

First off...I am glad you and your kids are okay...but I have to tell you, I am cracking up laughing...

Good JOB with what you did to that slimy piece of work...I can just picture it too.

At the time I was a yellow

At the time I was a yellow belt in Kung Fu.  When I went into class that week and told them what happened they had a great time "reinacting" it and telling me how great that was for a beginner.  I really didn't think about it ahead of time and afterwards wondered if I had done the right thing.  I felt a little sorry for him when he made the little "ayugh" sound.  But then I thought about what he could have done to my kids (or me) and got over it.

Wow sheryl...I didn't know

Wow sheryl...I didn't know you knew Kung Fu....neither did he evidently!

Please believe me when I am telling you I am laughing so hard it is funny! Talk about kick a$$....hehehee...

Not for one second should you have felt sorry for the guy....bet you can do far more damage now I would guess if you continued on with your Kung Fu classes.

Please give our gratitude to your son for us here from Montana, glad he is home safe and sound.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thank you Bigtimer

I will pass your thanks along to my son.  He is happy and healthy and living in Oklahoma now.  Yes, got my black belt.  Funny Kung Fu story: One of the other chicks in the Kung Fu class was driving past a bank with a ATM and saw a guy trying to take a woman's money from her.  She put her car into park (blocking the traffic at the red light she was stopped at) and floored him in two moves.  People at the light were honking and cheering, and as she got in to drive away the woman said, "Hey B*****, that was my BOYFRIEND!"  She hollered back, "Well, you need to get a new one now!" and drove off.

Those are for your

Those are for your gingerbread ninjas to live in, right?

We made GB houses one  year

We made GB houses one  year and my oldest son (just home from Boot Camp) made an army base with a little gingerbread tent and flags, etc. complete with all the broken gb cookies laying around in pools of red frosting.  It was disgustingly hilarious.

Very good sheryl

When I married my wife, she worked late hours at a developing center for the handicapped. She would often come home with injuries sustained from some of the students. I talked her into taking self defense, Shotokan Karate. Not so she could beat them up, but so she could better defend herself from injury. My wife is very small, some of these students were quite large and powerful. She is now a 3rd degree Black belt, and not to be messed with. I think all women should take some form of self defense, if for nothing else, to increase their self awarness. My wife has never needed to use her skills to protect herself, mostly because she now knows how to aviod situations that may turn bad.

My Daughter is also a BB and my Son is currently training for his. Shotokan and Aikido are very good for self defense, that is their emphasis.

Before I started taking

Before I started taking martial arts I was always afraid.  I was afraid in my own house (horror stories of robbers and such)  I was afraid to go out after dark (more horror stories).  Very soon after I started taking the classes I started developing confidence and at some point I realized I wasn't afraid anymore.  What a great benefit (besides helping me stay in shape and possibly save my life or my children's lives)  Now my children are almost all grown but they are all pretty well prepared for life in this messy world. I would recommend the training to anyone because it is amazing how many situations we can avoid just by being prepared.

Just what I was trying to say

Very good, it also helped my kids with their school and other chores. Confidence and self asteam, by the truck load.

I know right where that

I know right where that is.  That is amazing.  I live in Poway, but go up that way now and then for things we don't have here (Chick-Fil-A)  We used to go to the restaurant at the end of the pier (In Oceanside... Rubys?) for lunch anytime we were meeting anyone from another state because it is kindof unusual and the food is good.  Too cool!

no chick-fil-A

There is NOTHING good to eat

There is NOTHING good to eat in Poway. I think it might be violating a city code or something to put a good restaurant here.  Oh wait, we do have an Outback Steakhouse, but they are 'spensive and also don't open till 4.  But seriously, the restaurants here are all disgusting.  We go to Carmel Mountain or Escondido if we want to eat away from home.

We used to do the Outback for family functions, but, I talked the family into trying something new. It's our regular place when we're in Poway.

Is that next a Renaissance

Is that next a Renaissance Inn or something like that? Is it like a house that has been turned into a restaurant?  I have seen it but never had the courage to try it.  So it is good, you say?  I will definately try it then.  Good to see you.  I was trying to tell someone who else lived around here and couldn't remember your name.  I almost had an annurism trying to recall it.

Sheryl and botg...

It is up on the hill behind the Jack in the Box on Poway Road and yes, it used to be a house. The patio has a great view, although, it's getting a little cold for sitting out on the patio. I think the hotel nearby is a Ramada... Anyway, the owner's name is Neal and the food is good, prices are reasonable and the even my son (who is one of the fussiest kids in the world!!!) likes it. Technically, I live in Encinitas (Captain Keno's for breakfast!), but, my family spends half our time at my brothers (in Poawy) and his family spends half their time at mine...  I've been visiting my him in Tennesee where he's been working and just got back for the holidaze. Haven't been here at NB for a while.

I noticed

Your absence was duly noted even if I couldn't remember your name.

Encinitas?

i loved the Birdhouse Grill!!  is it still as good since the expansion?

The jackals can attack

The jackals can attack you anywhere, but in DC, the prey has to depend on someone else to provide them security.  I bring my own.

An opportunity for growth Mika...

achieve a higher understanding of the fundamentaly hazardous nature of life here on the third stone out.

The assult is an insult no? Has the value of distinct law and order become a little more apparent? Feeling a bit tougher around the edges this morning? Maybe consider that western society is being mugged and few realize the fact?

She will change her tune eventually

I am glad she wasn't hurt as well.

She's also lucky.  She really is that he didn't have a gun and shot her that she didn't produce the $20.  It's happened before as I am sure we all know.

I was mugged before and fought back.  Cops gave me a hard time saying my life was more important than the money.  I told them that  I was reacting to not the demand for money but the beating I was taking.  I didn't initially refuse, but they started pounding on me. Worst part:  people were waiting for the bus and saw it happen.  No one helped.  I am not bitter about it,  but it changes your perspective.

So, Mika, he may have needed the money, but think of all the others he steals from and probably hurts the next time someone comes up to you and demands money like that.  He really could have hurt you.  You are very lucky.

Glad you are okay.

Tom

Really now

This wasn't a mugging, it was a "panhandling." An agressive one, yes, but a mugging is when you are truly threatened, the guy wants everything and anything you have, and he will assault you if you don't turn it over.

it's not a mugging?

because someone redefined the term? is that like calling bank robbery "unauthorized withdrawl"? Or Illegal immigrants as "undocumented"?

A person should not have to make a decision and hope that the assailant chooses not to escalate the violence or the demands. "No" is enough, continuing to demand is escalating the situation. It is not his right to decide her fate-once she has communicated her will not to "give" his insistence showed he was willing to escalate the situation beyond panhandling.

Lawyering up the term to reduce it's criminality doesn't justify anything other than making it easier for muggers to claim innocence of the real charge, making it a he said/she said situation where a decent ambulance-chaser can get the perp reduced or even eliminated conequences.

"Aggressive" panhandling????

If I am ever approached on the streets of Atlanta and told that if I cough up $20 I won't be hurt, the next thing this "aggressive" panhandler is going to see is a muzzle flash.

I doubt very seriously the mugger will even here the detonation.

This nation is about to be brutally raped by the socialists, and the MSM will be a willing participant.

Clarification?

I thought that a 'mugging' was when a thief physically takes something from you in a moment of shock and surprise. As in knocking you down while running by in a snatch and grab.
If the scumbag makes a verbal demand with a threat I thought that would be called plain 'robbery'.
I would have thought she was robbed rather than mugged.
I AM NOT asking this in a 'lawyerese' way. I was just under the impression that mugging was more violent than what happened to her?

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.
