Before a few weeks ago, I don't recall seeing Kathleen Parker much on TV. But tuning into Andrea Mitchell's MSNBC show this afternoon, there she was. And when I got back from the gym and fired up my DVR of David Gregory's "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?" Yup, Parker redux.
Let's see. What might possibly explain Kathleen Parker's sudden popularity on MSNBC? You don't suppose it could conceivably have anything to do with her September column calling on Sarah Palin to step down from the GOP ticket, do you?
For the record, I found Parker, in her appearances today, well-spoken, thoughtful and appealing. This isn't a knock on her so much as confirmation that the best way for a conservative to become popular in MSM circles is to start taking shots at fellow right-of-center travelers.
Research Bleg
I'm sure I recall that in the wake of the criticism she took for her column calling on Palin to step down, Parker wrote in her own defense that she was never one to seek TV appearances and had turned down many such invitations. I can't seem now to find where Parker said that and would be grateful to any reader who could point me in the right direction.

Well Mark, this numbskull
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 20:47 ET by ConservativeRexWell Mark, this numbskull Parker will learn in time, that if you hand liberals an olive branch they will whack the hell out of you with it.
Once again as my long gone Memaw was famous for saying "if you don't want to listen, you're going to have to feel"!

Mark - Parker's TV Defense Probably At "The Corner"
Tue, 11/18/2008 - 17:30 ET by zeestephenMark,
There was a great deal of chatter and criticism at NRO's "The Corner" when Parker went on the Colbert Report.
Ramesh Ponnuru has a "Corner" comment on 15 October.
I don't have time to do a thorough search, but that might get you started.
I am so happy for Ms
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 20:53 ET by msh1973I am so happy for Ms Parker, this should get her invited to a few cocktail parties, maybe even the Obamafest in January. Ms. Parker can kiss my GOP rear.
Do I sound bitter.... :-)
Kathleen Parker is not a conservative
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 20:58 ET by zachlindKathleen Parker has been mislabeled a conservative for a number of years. Her columns are, at best, middle of the road and keep in mind her recent appearances were on what most people consider left wing cable shows. Remember too, Ms Parker is chasing 60 and probably in need of some attention. Where it comes from must not be important.
Older Woman's Jealosy
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 21:48 ET by BW222Older female columnists (both Parker and Noonan are in their late 50s) seem to have a problem with Sarah Palin - her accomplishments, her natural beauty (Botox-free) and her popularity.
Anti-Palin comments have taken Parker farther with the liberal media than she has gone in the prior 57 years of her life.

Well, what with her family now tuning in they've probably doubled their audience. Mother Olbermann and Mrs. Matthews probably watch Rachael Ray on Food Network I'd bet and pull the "Loved your show tonight Honey" schtick.
Expect to see Maverick McCain Popular Again with the Media

I'm certain that John McCain wants to get back into the loving arms of the MSM. To do that, expect McCain to regain his maverick reputation by crossing the aisle and working closely with Obama and the Democrats, and knocking his fellow Republicans every chance he gets.
From the BBC News: "Mr McCain's track record of working with Democrats on issues from climate change to immigration makes him a key figure in the new, Democratically-controlled Washington, says our correspondent."

McCain was going to buy up everybody's bad mortgage. We were targeting the Wal-Mart voter. We were targeting the Hispanic voter. We were targeting independents and Democrats and moderates and look at where it got us. We didn't win. ~ Rush Limbaugh
Whatever
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 23:26 ET by wsasserWe need to rebuild the party. IMO they should pull the biggest names in to make the points, period. So we lose some ground over the next two-four years....by then, American's of all flavors will look forward to a real party and real change.
The problem with Liberals is they never admit they made a mistake. The Conservatives are doing well holding their ground on the Bailouts, they finally realize they have to stand up for something. It the issue is pushed, they will have to pass it themselves and in four years when they need another bailout, who will believe them then.....
Kathleen Parker timing off
Mon, 11/17/2008 - 23:33 ET by Parker1227It was too late for her advice (whether acted on or ignored) to be anything but harmful to the McCain campaign. The time for arguing the pick was weeks before the choice was made - not weeks afterword.
That's why the anger. Her "advice" was far more in the way of a poison dagger.
I would rather Palin, with her pioneer-like common sense, were president than Obama.
Obama appears to have spent years immersed in the la-la land of Marxist idealism. That is troubling.
Both lack the "experience" in world politics that many would prefer in a president, but it isn't the amount of experience one has, as much as the quality of the lessons that one takes from their experiences that counts.
I am not sure how many times
Tue, 11/18/2008 - 00:00 ET by iamkevI am not sure how many times Kathleen Parker was on MSNBC but she used to always be on the syndicated Chris Matthews show.

Tue, 11/18/2008 - 09:02 ET by northoneWhat is it with these 50+ female "Conservative" columnists and their hate-on for Sarah Palin? Ms. Parker, Ms. Noonan, and others of their ilk may be the darlings of the MSM for the moment because of their "concerns" about Palin, but the MSM will turn and eat them up, just like it did to McCain, when these "moderates" are no longer useful to the MSM and its agenda.
50+??? How generous of you...
