Shuster Tries To Pick Palin-Jindal Fight

The next presidential election might be four years off, but it's never too early to sow dissension in Republican ranks.  So would appear to be David Shuster's creed. Interviewing Bobby Jindal this evening, Shuster was clearly more interested in luring the brilliant Louisiana governor into a fight with Sarah Palin than in exploring the substance.

Jindal was way too savvy and diplomatic to fall for Shuster's transparent ploy, but that didn't stop Shuster—sitting in for David Gregory as host of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue—from repeatedly trying.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

DAVID SHUSTER: Governor Palin is scheduled to give very high-profile remarks at this [GOP governors] conference that you are attending. She's also planning on having a very high-profile news conference.  Will you do the same?

BOBBY JINDAL: Well, I'm looking forward to going and meeting with other governors, sharing what we've done in Louisiana: we've cut taxes, reformed the ethics code --

SHUSTER: But governor, what do you make, though, of what Sarah Palin is going to be doing over the next couple of days in this very same conference that you're attending?  What is she up to?

JINDAL: Look, I think it's a good--I think the Republican party needs as many voices right now.
A bit later, Shuster again tried to stir the pot.
SHUSTER: Wouldn't it be better for Republicans if Sarah Palin—who so many Republicans of course associate with John McCain's loss—if she took something of a breather, cooled down essentially, didn't have such a high-profile engagement this week.  Wouldn't that be better for the Republican party in your estimation?

JINDAL: No, not at all. I think our governors need to speak out. I think the voters are going to be looking at substance.  I know there's going to be a lot of focus and a lot of speculation on who the messenger is going to be, who's the new faces going to be. But the reality is, people are looking for substance.  The message is so much more important than the messenger at this point. People want out of this conference, they want to hear what are Republican governors going to do --
Shuster made once last try to lure Jindal into taking a potshot at Palin.
SHUSTER: But governor, you would acknowledge that there are some people who are better at delivering that substance than others, right?
Jindal was way too sharp for Shuster.
JINDAL: Well, I'm biased: I think our governors are great messengers.
Nice try, David!

The new marching orders for the MSM.  Now that their Messiah is about to be inaugerated, their mission for the next four years is to belittle, demean, and destroy Sarah Palin at any cost.  Could they be any more transparent in their bias?  Keith Olberman was also on her case earlier tonight.  Sad, sad, sad.

Yes, destroy Palin, as Chris

Yes, destroy Palin, as Chris Matthews was trying to do tonight, too.  But this was a two-fer.  Shuster was trying to tarnish Jindal by luring him down into the gutter.  Of course Bobby was way too smart to fall for that!

I think they already

I think they already succeeded in destroying Palin with that prank call.  With an unfriendly media in a future national election the transcript would be rebroadcast 24/7.  It would take a full-on Obama disaster that personally affects media figures before they would turn on the dems.  And actually having the media on the GOP side would be what it would take for that prank not to be a showstopper.

Shuster is a ...

Well, he just doesn't get  it. He is a reporter, not a Democrat defense minister.

"Jindal was way too sharp for Shuster"

Damn right he was.  Every interview I've seen this guy give with people like George Stephy and  Bob Schieffer, he handed them back their stale lunch, and then some.  Believe me, as much as I love Sarah Palin, this guy is that good and does not need a teleprompter.  People like him, Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, Jeff Flake are the future - please go away Newt, Romney and Huckaby and stick to commentary.

Tim Pawlenty?

No. Nonononono.  He's been drinking way too much out of the Green Kool-Aid pitcher.

Nice work Jindal, you foiled this pawn's mission. How desparate, Shuster just didn't know when to quit. He should stick to Obamasiah worship

///The people have spoken!/// INDEED. Slightly over half don't have a CLUE what they spoke for. Enjoy the process as these people slowly get CLUES over a 4yr period. Painful, but enjoyable.

Very interesting, the

Very interesting, the campaign is over, the election is over, the next election cycle is over a year away and yet the libs feel compelled to do everything in their power to undermine Palin.  This speaks to the level of threat she poses to them.   Palin connects with the public as Reagan did this is something libs can not abide.

With the false allegation of Palin not knowing Africa was a continent being outed as a Dem initiated hoax.  What we have here is a concerted campaign called Agent Provacateur.

The Dems have repeatedly insisted the Reagan Revolution is over, the thing is dead.

Connect the dots.  Conservatism is not dead, on the contrary with McCain now out of the way and the RINOs are now being marginalized, conservatism it is ready to bloom and the libs are terrified Obama is going to be a one term president because you only get lucky doubling down just so many times.  What better way to increase your odds when you have to double down than to eliminate the person whom you know is wildly popular and backed by conservatives.  Obama had to spend close to $600 million to win this election in a savvy Madison Ave campaign, will he be able to get $600 million again in 4 years? Will the electorate be duped a second time with a $500 bribe?  I seriously doubt it.

For the first time in my life I have a gonernor that I am really proud of.

What? Coco

Foster, and Roamer, were both very importaint to our State.

General

They were good and important but Gov. Jindal I believe is going to make Louisiana shine. I believe that he will bring real companies here with real jobs. I really believe he values the state more than his political life.

So do I

But I think we need him for 8 yrs. He came very close to promising me 8 yrs, but suggested that his intent was to be our Gov as long as we would have him. So, I fear we may loose him early.

We need him for the full 8.

Either Palin, Jindal, or both

In a few weeks or months there will be a special election for senator in Alaska when Stevens gets kicked back to Anchorage. Sarah Palin as a senator gets 4 years to be on the national stage before 2012.

My apologies to the good citizens of Louisiana, but the country needs Bobby Jindal more in Washington than Baton Rouge.

All that however takes second fiddle to how are conservatives going to win the House in 2010. Work on that one first!

Oh and Shusters not a reporter or a journalist. He's a provocateur and not even a good one!

Palin/Jindal 2012

Sarah Palin needs to stay

Sarah Palin needs to stay away from Washington, in my opinion. Historically, Senators do not make good Presidents (as we will see shortly). Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin are the new face of the Republican party, and the old guard can't stand it. The RINOs need to get out of their way. Palin/Jindal 2012 or vice versa!

msh... I just saw these

msh...

I just saw these latest posts since last night, I tend to agree with you, my husband and I were talking about this last night, I feel she should not go in the Senate at all...we shall see.

As an aside, I have heard that O is going to name Valerie Jarrett as the next Senator from Chicago....but I have a feeling it will be Tammy Duckworth...who knows...

For those of you in Rio Linda I know the Sitting Gov. is the person who is suppose to name the replacement but we all know it will be the Chicago-Machine/Soros/Sock-puppet O who really does.

Jindal still needs a little more political seasoning

There's no doubt Bobby Jindal will become a superstar for the Republican party at some point.  However, he has shown some signs of political naivete in his first year as governor here.  He was caught in the middle of a state congressional pay raise scandal, which saw him caught between his ethics reform campaign pledges and his promise to allow the state legislature to run its own affairs.  The legislature called his bluff and voted for a massive pay raise, and Jindal was forced to pick sides, initially stating he would not veto the pay raise that the legislature voted for itself.  Only after intense public outrage and the threat of recall petitions did Jindal change his position and veto the pay raise.

He ultimately made the right decision and admitted to his mistakes, which is all we can ask from our public officials.  Bobby Jindal is like an athlete with a ton of potential who still needs to hone his skills a little before he's ready for the big stage.  But when he is, he'll make a lot of conservatives happy and a lot of liberals very fearful.

I agree

I was very suprised the Bobby was willing to go along with this, I also understand how he fell into the trap. He is paying attention though, it is not likely to happen again, I hope.

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Can we have him please?

I am very hopeful we will see much more of Bobby Jindal, I think he would be great for the republican party in 2012. I also think we would be wise to point out others like Paul Ryan from Wisc., he's very well spoken and has some great ideas.  And maybe Michael Steele as RNC chair.  I hope the Republican party doesn't do what it usually does and just go to the next guy in line.  Don't get me wrong, I liked Romney, and the rest, but I think we would be better served by some younger conservative choices, there are plenty of cabinent positions for highly qualified people such as Romney and Rudy, etc.  And as for taking him away from the state, I will trade  you Jim Webb, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, a deal you just can't refuse, or probably don't want.

I love Bobby Jindahl

I love Bobby Jindahl.

I love Sarah Palin.

I love the liberal media is after them.

I love that the old fart socialists, Rhinos, Rockefellers and Noonan's Nooners sucking off the GOP are rejected, dumped, disposed of and on the fossil pile of poof, puff and dust.

The stars are back on the GOP in Conservatives as the moderates and socialists were what the United States rejected again.

Barack Obama HAD TO COME TO THE RIGHT as everyone KNOWS in this election to get elected. He is a liar and fake in it and ticked off his DailyKos clique, but that is the fact.
Noel Sheppard featured that Conservative values were what people were interested in voting for at the polls.

That means when all the garbage which is going to be unleashed by Obama starts burning up Americans and it is Obama's troops beating up Americans, that Americans are going to be looking for Conservative stars.

Hillary is toast PUMA saps. You killed her chances and all liberal women's chances in having a woman in your presidential race for 50 years by voting Obama.

The future is Gov. Sarah Palin and she has the American Rangers loading up on God, locked on a mission for American and ready to ride the good fight.
These liberals tried to put the stake into Reagan and here we Americans are back in our stars are the ones causing the MSM Molotov Mob to go nuts.

That is what winning looks like. Obama is going to be bunkered down with his inept dupes. Rham Emanuel? He is a thug and will leave his back hand all over Pelosi's hind end making Congress hate Obama. The other anemic looking dracula types circling the bat cave will turn off Americans as much as Warren Christopher did and Les Aspin.

So I will ask again black America. Where is the black Sec. of State? Where is the black Sec. of Defense? Where is the black Sec. of Treasury?
No Hispanics and no Asians welcome in Affirmative Action mass appeal in the white Obama White House.

Mouthing off from the Senate balcony is a whole heap different than running things.

Republican stars are running things and will continue to run things as Obama creates national problems.

I can hardly wait until the mass of Obama catastrophes occur and I can start whispering, "Hey were you better off under George Bush with no terror attacks and you having a savings account or are you better off under Obama with cities on fire and Warren Buffett with all your money".

Bobby and Sarah, not even 2 weeks after the election and the GOP is building more stars for America to follow.

Ain't that somethin' Peggy Noonan for Mom and Dad.

Sorry MeowMeow, Bobby who?

Jindal is even more of a newcomer than Palin. Sell us!

Mighty, Don't get me wrong,

Mighty,

Don't get me wrong, I do like Sarah Palin. However, Jindal's intelligence is apparent to anyone - no doubt about it. I think the media and the Dems (same thing) will have a very difficult, if not impossible time hanging the "dumb" and "uninformed" sign around him. Not to say they won't try. At his press conferences before the last hurricane, he demonstrated his competence and his grasp of details. He's also charismatic. He's the complete package.

Did MSNBC

borrow those columns from the DNC?

Transcript Typos

Who types these transcripts? It might be a good idea to verify and correct them. I get the impression that the transcriber deliberately makes mistakes that make the speakers sound stupid.

I was so glad to see this was

being noted/this news moderator is definitely on the right channel/It is not just Gov Jindal though he does this with each person he interviews lately.  He was so GLEEFUL reporting the hot mess that the press made out of Gov. Palin I found it creepy.  No one should be so joyous in reporting things from an unknown source.  Having done so they should be decent enough to call it as false.  No it was Newsweek magazine that ran that awful towel story even after the people involved went on Andrea Mitchell and disclaimed it. No one holds anyone accountable for untruths and it is sad that our freedom of the press has come to this.

I pass these channels and only tuned in yesterday to hear Gov Jindl as I feel he has the stuff that my party needs and that I can get behind going forward otherwise I refuse to give them a listen

SHUSTER: But governor, you

SHUSTER: But governor, you would acknowledge that there are some people who are better at delivering that substance than others, right?

You would all acknowledge that there are better media outlets and reports who are better at delivery new than MSNBC, right?

MSNBC is garbage....

..it's commentators are garbage

..it's network president is garbage

..it's pathetic attempt to portray itself as an honest media organization is garbage.

..I hope MSNBC fails and everyone that works there finds themselves out of a job for their intellectual dishonesty.

By the way, this was the first time I've seen and heard Bobby Jindal speak and he's very articulate and I would have no problems voting for him for President.
