If Keith Olbermann is going to engage in violent fantasies about Sarah Palin, can't he at least come up with some original material? On tonight's Countdown, Olbermann drooled at the prospect of Palin remaining in national politics, saying:
She might stick around to be the slowest-moving target imaginable for comedians and commentators. It would be like shooting moose from a chopper.Despicable, yes. But also a "borrowing" of Bidenesque proportions. As we noted here, Bill Maher plumbed those noisesome depths weeks ago, imagining Palin being "shot from a plane" like a wolf.
Olbermann got off his loathsome line in a conversation with Chris Kofinis, a former John Edwards aide.
KEITH OLBERMANN: Sarah Palin's role in this. Now this poll from, about who Republicans want to lead them. Romney and Huckabee both finished ahead of her in that poll. If she does not, say, leave politics voluntarily or involuntarily in Alaska, she might stick around to be the slowest-moving target imaginable for comedians and commentators. It would be like shooting moose from a chopper.
Kofinis clearly found that funny, as he can be heard giggling. But is there any doubt that if the tables were turned, Olbermann wouldn't settle for a mere Worst Person nomination, and demand the Secret Service investigate a conservative who had descended to such odious depths?
Note: Ed Driscoll points out this isn't the first time Olbermann's fantasized about offing a woman political opponent.

I agree, that is ridiculouse. He should have threw in some rabid pit-bulls chasing Olbie through the minefield to make it interesting.

WOW
November 6, 2008 - 01:00 ET by HillbillyKingApparently the powers that be are slackin a little;
I grew up with people like you.
I post comments on this website for one reason: to give a different
view. Sometimes I write well, sometimes I write poorly. I do not speak
in statistics or citations. I see no need to cite common sense or
personal experience. Sometimes I speak from my gut.
I do not respond to comments directed at me. I am a "troll." I put in
my two cents and then leave. It is not arrogance. It is not cowardice.
I simply do not give a damn about what people here think about me.
Besides, I already know what you're going to say - you people always
say the same, stupid things.
It's not that I think I'm always right; it's just that you are always wrong.
The main thing I feel a need to speak out against on this website is
bigotry. Growing up white in Indiana, I, too, thought racism was dead.
It is not - it is alive and well on NewsBusters, among other places.
I visit this website for the same reason a person picks at a scab;
it hurts, it's gross - but it's entertaining and enlightening. By
visiting this website, I get an insight into the way people think, the
arguments people like you use to support your bigoted, stupid policies
and beliefs in life.
I prefer this website over other conservative websites because of
its simplicity. Redstate.com, for example, has no hold on me. While it
does have its share of raving lunatics, the essays hosted on Redstate
are coherent and intelligent - often way over my head. Here, however,
blog entires are quick and vapid, filled with conservative talking
points and propaganda. Above all, the commenters here are raving
fanatics, spouting repeated propaganda from their frothing mouths.
Finally, I enjoy this website because it is itself a representation
of the absurdity of conservativism: the liberal media bias does not
exist - it is a myth perpetrated by the right-wing in order to convince
the public that the media cannot be trusted. In other words, this
entire website is a big Kool-Aid fest.
And it amuses me.
And disgusts me.
But above all it amuses me.
That folks, is Chesters bio.
I fail to see how Chesters continued presence here benefits anyone except Chester. Furthermore, it does so solely at the expense of others.
That being the case, I request that the staff of NewsBusters revoke Chesters membership to our little "representation
of the absurdity of conservativism".
I mean, Chester can still visit the site as much as he wants to view "the
arguments people like you use to support your bigoted, stupid policies
and beliefs in life."
(Which ,btw, is quite redundant given that Chester said, "I already know what you're going to say - you people always
say the same, stupid things." So why is it your coming here? Oh, your a masochist, "I visit this website for the same reason a person picks at a scab;
it hurts, it's gross")
It's just that those of us the are willing to engage in the exchange of ideas and opinions should not be burdened by those who are not. You know, those like Chester, who said, "I do not respond to comments directed at me. I am a "troll." I put in
my two cents and then leave."
I, of course, welcome any an all views regarding this post. ;-)
If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

November 5, 2008 - 21:56 ET by JerryBogus Chester,
Just because one can string together a simile, such as, "Joking about Obama is as easy as shooting monkeys in a banana tree", does not make it acceptable, even by the standards of our horrid public education system of which you are obviously a charter member.
When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).
Sorry, but Chester is
November 6, 2008 - 08:50 ET by JasonCSorry, but Chester is completely correct. I don't like Olbermann, but you all are way off on this. "Like shooting fish in a barrel" is pretty much the cliche of cliches, and regardless of context, it is ludicrous to take it to imply a violent fantasy. All KO did was tweak the simile (but keep it intact enough that anyone would recognize its source) to something that is, deservedly or not, associated with Palin. Applying the monkey in a banana tree thing to Obama wouldn't be offensive on the grounds of violent content, but would be puzzling as to how monkeys and bananas apply to him in any meaningful way. Some of the reaction posts here, ironically, and as Chester pointed out, are far more malicious in their fantasies of violence.
This is the most semantically tortured attempt to catch a liberal smearing Palin since the outrageous Pig/Lipstick debacle that consumed the right's fevered imagination while the economy plummeted.
But oh well, it's all moot. Palin will not be VEEP or Prez. Back to Wasilla to mangle the English language and govern ineptly in a place that will at least not affect the whole nation.

I am talking about Palin's Bush-like ability to consistently construct sentences that violate numerous rules of grammar and syntax and ultimately mean nothing. See, for instance, the VP debate.
I thought conservatives were deeply attached to preserving proper English? Lord knows they get bent out of shape enough over Ebonics, or having to take 1.5 seconds out of their lives to press the 'English' button on the ATM.
Since my parting shot is all that you've addressed, shall I assume that my discussion of cliched similes resonated?

Again, mastery of English is always a big f---in' deal to conservatives when it pertains to immigrants (who are usually bilingual, more than most Americans can say) or Ebonics. If you wan't to keep it classy fine, but in a war you have to adapt and overcome and sometimes adopt the strategies of your enemy no matter how brutal they are.
If you don't believe that and if most conservatives feel the same way as you, then the Republic is doomed. Mark my words, you may start to feel a little different when you start to see the Constitution being re-written and certain amendments dissappearing or being re-written when Obamas fellow student of Saul Alinsky, Hillary Clinton becomes Head of The Supreme Court.
And with that I leave you with this chilling prophecy, that in my opinion just came true today:
"I remember reading a story told by Ezra T. Benson, who served as the
Secretary of Agriculture during the Eisenhower administration. The
leader of the Soviet Union, Nikita Kruschev (who followed Stalin) was
going to visit the U.S. and Benson was ordered by Eisenhower to give
Kruschev a tour of some of our agricultural facilities. With great
reluctance, Benson agreed to do as requested by the President.
During
the tour Kruschev remarked to Secretary Benson that communism would
eventually consume democracy. Benson replied that Americans would never
accept such a drastic change in their form of government as communism.
Kruschev then told Benson that it was already beginning to happen.
He said that Americans were being fed one small bite of communism at a
time, and that over the course of several years, Americans will have
accepted so many communistic ideals, including a massive and
uncontrollable federal government, that one day we would wake up to
discover that we are a democracy only in name - that our policies and
methods of government will be communist in nature. Kruschev concluded
that it will be the slow injection of socialist/communist principles
into America - not nuclear missiles - that would destroy our nation."

If/When Obama throws out the Constitution and declares himself "dear leader", then it's war and you won't be alone. But until then, you are no different than those Kos kooks that kept saying that Bush was going to make our country fascist, and declare himself emperor for life. Only you are their mirror image (their left is your right). Like I said before: It makes no difference who does it. It's just as wrong! Just because you are saying it from the right doesn't majically make it OK.
Oh, and he's not God. I don't know how well you count, but no one has a super majority in the Senate. So the second he tries to make Hillary Clinton head of the Supreme Court is the first second of a good, old fashioned fillibuster.
Relax. Stop cleaning your rifle and take a deep breath. Yeah, it's bad, but we'll survive. And Kruschev was right, but backwards. It is Democracy that is defeating Communism, not the other way around. Just ask an East German, a Pole, or even a Georgian!

But when he refuses to call the President by his Constitutionally granted title, he is pissing on the Constitution that gave him that free speech!

Actually POTUS here in America do not wear uniforms, not yet anyway, but that should change soon. The man whose quote you use as a sig. did and he wasn't a soldier fighting for the people he was a mass murderer fighting against the people.
If conservatives like you represent the last best hope free America has to offer, than we are all surely doomed.

Funny, of all the time I've
November 6, 2008 - 00:59 ET by BlazerFunny, of all the time I've had that in my sig TM, you are the first one who's ever aked me that.
It's from a game called Portal. Basically you try to traverse a series of challenges inside of a complex series of mazes that progressively get harder and there is a computer generated voice that reminds you constantly that if you make it through, your reward is cake.
Ominously scribbled on the walls throughout the game by others that went through before you is "The cake is a lie".
You find out at the end of the game that you were the first and only one to have ever made it out and that there is no cake for a reward.
Reminds me how we are slowly giving up our liberties and freedom in return for cake, but we never get any cake.
In other words politicians promise you the moon and stars, but you never get anything in return.

November 6, 2008 - 11:28 ET by TN Momaah. The Cake... Thanks!
I guess you wouldn't understand
November 6, 2008 - 01:02 ET by ArcherBSorry. It's a soldier thing, I guess you wouldn't understand. Let me try anyway. You see, as a soldier in the US Armed forcers, we take an oath:
Notice that it says THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, not the Republican President.
Anyway, back to the uniform bit. You see the part about "THE OFFICERS APPOINTED OVER ME..." We had some great officers. We had some sorry ass officers. It didn't matter what you thought of the man. Even if you couldn't salute him, you still had to salute the uniform. That's where it came from.
But since you didn't serve, you wouldn't understand that. Nor would you understand that The United States of America is what it is because of The Constitution. That's why we take an oath to defend The Constitution, not the country. So, of course, when you disrespect the Constitution, you are disrespecting America.
You, are no different than the traitors who turn their backs during The National Anthem. Actually, you are worse becuase this country wasn't founded on the National Anthem. It was founded on The Constitution. It is sad that you would turn your back on your country so quickly just because you disagree with the politics of the man in charge. I, on the other hand, take the oath I took seriously and I am bound by it. So, until Obama violates the Constitution, I must respect his position and it is granted by that very same Constitution.
I don't have to respect Obama, but I have to respect the Constitution that makes him President. So, even though I really hate Obama, I love The Constitution (country) more. I guess you don't see it that way.

Hey, I totally understand
November 6, 2008 - 01:11 ET by BlazerHey, I totally understand the oath and where your comin' from, one day you'll understand where I'm comin' from too, I assure you.
Remember though, the two most important parts of that oath were about defending The Constitution and the people. There may come a time when the rest can be dropped.

How's this
November 6, 2008 - 01:23 ET by ArcherBWhen Obama violates The Constitution, I am bound by an oath to defend that Constitution from Obama (ALL enemies, forein and DOMESTIC). I promise you that I will honor that oath and provide a forceful defense to the Constitution.
However, until then, I'm bound by that very same oath to respect the Office of the President. I don't have to like him. I don't have to vote for him. I don't even have to watch him on TV. But I do have to respect the fact that, as of Jan 20, 2009, he is the President of the United States as spelled out in The Constitution. And like I've said before:
The USA IS The Consitution. The Constitution says Obama is President. If you don't acknowledge that Obama is President, you do not acknowledge the authority of the Constitution, and you do not acknowledge the authority of the United States of America.
It's late and I'm out! Good chattin with ya.
Sorry, one more thing. All of this reminds of an article I read today at WSJ. It made me decide that I will not do to Obama what the libs and press have done to Bush. I'm better than that. Here is the relevant part from the article, but please, read the whole thing:

November 6, 2008 - 23:05 ET by general companyI completely respect your thought process here, I have been e-mailing some of my siblings that are so happy about the results of the election. They seem to be surprised when I tell them things like 3 trillion in new spending, and taking fund from those that drive our economy.
But what is done is done, now we need to concentrate on keeping him check. This site is dedicated to liberal media bias, many of us fear that the media will not be the watch dog that we will desperately need. But you know this.
I talked to some Troops yesterday (8) between the Dallas and Houston airports. Some on the shuttles, one in the terminal, a couple waiting in line, one on the plane, another in a restaurant (asked to share his table) they also were very reserved in there comments, but it could had been because they were all heading to Afghanistan? Every one of them? After talking to a few of them I found I had completely forgotten about the election, and was just hoping they make it home as fine as my visit was with them.

November 7, 2008 - 12:20 ET by chelseabitesNow that the election is over it'll be interesting to see where things go and how the country recovers. I wonder how much attention will go to Sarah Palin.
