Barney Frank: 'The Fundamentals Are Better Than the Psychology'

Shades of McCain from an unlikely corner . . .

When at the beginning of the current financial mess John McCain declared that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong," he was roundly lambasted by the MSM, while the Obama campaign called his statement "an enormous mistake."

So, should we expect the liberal media and the Obama campaign to go after Barney Frank . . . now that he has said something remarkably similar? Discussing the markets with Maria Bartiromo on CNBC this afternoon, Frank declared: "I think it's clear that the fundamentals are better than the psychology."

While he was at it, Frank echoed McCain on another important issue.  Like the Republican candidate, the Dem chairman of the House Financial Services Committee indicated it would be a mistake in the current economic climate to raise taxes on the richest Americans, as Obama has proposed.

MARIA BARTIROMO: So you agree: taxes should go up, then, on the top earners, even in this slow environment.

BARNEY FRANK: No. Not right away. I want to wait a year.

BARTIROMO: Will you ask [Obama] to push the plan back then? Because he wants to raise taxes as soon as he gets in office, correct?

FRANK: Well, I do not think he has said recently he's going to do it as soon as he gets in office.

Really?  When Obama told Joe the Plumber he wants to "spread the wealth around," there was nothing to indicate he meant later, not now.   The official Obama website similarly suggests nothing about a delay:

Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility.

Obama might have Colin Powell, but McCain has Frank! To be sure, the Dem congressman expressed formal support for Obama, but on the big economic issues of the day, Barney was singing John's song.

Yeah..but Mark, it never

Yeah..but Mark, it never means the same thing if a liberal leftists says this...why not at all..

The spin machine will be at the ready for Barney...if need be with the Obama Wrecking Crew and the msm for the most part.

Great catch by the way!

Barney Frank is a complete

Barney Frank is a complete joke.  I don't care what the crap he says.  McCain better not refer to it.  He'd appear to be aligning his thoughts with that of the moron Frankfurter.

SSHhhhh

When at the beginning of the current financial mess John McCain declared that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong,"

Be quiet, somebody might notice. NOT

Frank is protecting his rear...

Barney Frank is protecting his rear (no pun intended). If ever fully exposed (no pun intended) for his role in the current mortage/credit crisis, he could have a lot of folks coming after him.

Besides, it's still Sen. Obama, who just keeps right on lying about most every issue under the sun. First it was in scaring the elderly voters in Florida about loosing their SS if McCain is elected, then to Joe the Plumber, right off the top, Obama just out and out lied to Joe. Obama said:

"we haven't given a break to folks who make less."

Interesting how the entire media missed that one? Since, and including 2001, there was quite a list of tax breaks given to folks that were making less - oh, in fact they just got yet another one.

Gary, covering his arse

Gary, covering his arse indeed...along with a long trail of his involvement in all of this mess...I have posted links here before too...

As to the second half of your post...Hear! Hear!

Btw..the msm misses this intentionally when convenient....wouldn't if this was reversed.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

On your second part.

On your second part.   Isn't it interesting that when Bush was working on tax cuts, they were deemed "tax cuts for the rich."  But now, the Dems want to extend the cuts for middle brackets and only raise the top bracket.

Uhhhh, I aint no Alfred Einsteen, but if they were "tax cuts for the rich" in the first place, what is there to leave in place?

These people are freakin IDIOTS.

Barney Frank..a friend of the masses

If there ever was one a political whore, this was the guy.  Barney Frank whored a lot of his political life on everything that is free (money from lobbyists, sex from his pimping boyfriend who brought him his digs).  Now that it is a pain in his a** (pun intended), the economic crisis just might do him in, politically.

Maybe not.

If it does him in, it would

If it does him in, it would be an absolute shock.  If that happened, it would happen to many more because he'd be considered a rather big fish.  But never fear, he's one that can live in Congress until death, and he knows it.  A Massachusetts liberal with a known name.  Safe as a turtle the shell.

So the Bush tax reduction is STILL working!

Humm, Frank can you explain the

COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT ACT?

IranianUranium

Curious as to his sudden change...though slightly.

If Obama wins he will still be sitting pretty so there has to be some other reason for the very slight turn of opinion.

Off topic I was wondering why I have not been seeing Glenn Beck on CNN as of late went to his website and found out he's moving to FOX cable!!!!! If this is old news my head must have been in the sand, this is great I knew he could not last on the commie network much longer, now I have absolutely no reason to turn to that crappy channel anymore!

"9 out of 10 doctors agree that flag burning is the number one killer of liberals."

HC - It was hinted on Drudge Thursday

and Friday's Glenn Beck website confirmed the move, though they didn't have a firm start date...then, BOOM, Monday night, no Glenn!!!

Guess CNN didn't want him around any longer...he is supposed to have a 5 pm show at Fox.  Go to Glennbeck.com to see if you can find the summary from last Friday.

And, on topic, how I WISH Massachusetts could be rid, once and for all, of this horrible excuse for a congressman!

Economical idiot

Glenn Beck is an idiot when it comes to economics.  I'm surprised CNN didn't keep him on that basis alone.

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

Well Mark. Looks like Bernie Frank gets added to list

Well Mark. Looks like Bernie Frank gets added to Mark Halperin's list of crazy liberal folks in Congress who will keep Obama from going crazy liberal (see Terry Trippany's earlier post);

Mark Halperin: Dick Durbin Will Keep Obama From Going Crazy Liberal  - Rahm Emanuel, Charles Schumer and Dick Durbin would actually prevent Barack Obama from going crazy liberal

Congressman Bernie Frank will be there holding him back, as well.

Hee hee hee hee! This is very funny. By tomorrow, Pelosi and Kucinich will be on board.

Yea, what should that tell

Yea, what should that tell America when it's gonna require known liberals to keep Obama from going as liberal as they know he is?  What's that alone say about the Obama?

Hey Barney, the fundamentals are good for a FHA Investigation to

You,re like a June Bride Barney. . you know you're going to get it, you just don't know how or how long it will be . . .The Congressional Investigation is coming . . .Americans WILL DEMAND it . . .the FBI has started. . . it cannot be stopped.

Who's going to go forth with

Who's going to go forth with an investigation?  A supermajority Democrat Congress with Pelosi at the helm?  Going after Frank?  You gotta be kiddin!

As Biden would say . . 4 little letters - F B I

Its a long Shot but O'Riely planted the Seeds.

Well, this comment from

Well, this comment from Barney really makes me feel much better about things...?  Barney has not been right on anything yet. This man needs to be investigated for his role in this disaster, but it will never happen especially under Dem rule.

ALL Americans should

ALL Americans should call/write/email congress to hold hearings on Barney Franks involvement with Fanny Mae/Freddie Mac.

BTW: is it me or does anyone else think Joe Biden and now, Barney Frank are trying to throw the election for obama? Something is screwwy........

I am tired of being angry.

Sen. McCain says the fundamentals are strong and is villified.

Rep. Frank says the fundamentals are strong and we get crickets.

In the meantime, we marched up to a financial cliff but have yet to go over. Unless you need a loan NOW, the fundamentals are strong.

You spend a lifetime demanding the truth, you get it, you know it, and everyone with a microphone is telling you, yah, that ain't it. It is depressing as all hell.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

I'm with you, J.... I

I'm with you, J....

I feel hopeless lately.  I know, I know, that's what they want, so that I don't go and vote.  But I will.

the thing that burns me up the most is that the media never said one single critical thing about Obama's breaking his promise to use federal money if McCain would!  Can you imagine if John McCain went back on that pledge?

If that's the way they treat him now, imagine what it will be like in an Obama WH press corps.

I will be there too motherbelt

Going out to vote is all we have left.

I just hope like the silent majority of the 80's, there are a lot of us that feel this way.

I was angry for a long time because so many people turned their back on a war we started and needed to finish.

Now I am angry at a lot of things on the left side. Top of the list is the MSM.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

The Hypocrisy Is Staggering

Even Frank understands that raising taxes is not good for the economy. Obama even admitted a month or so ago that raising taxes at this point might not be the wise thing to do

So, why aren't people pointing out the obvious. A high tax and spend government is wrong. It is bad for the economic prosperity of the country. It does more harm than good.

Put another way, a small, limited government with a low tax rate along with a genuinely free marketplace is the best way to go.

Then, again, that sounds like what we conservatives have always said and maybe that is why no one in the MSM can say it that way.

Ignorance, our most costly commodity - paraphrased from Rush Limbaugh

Just the facts, you moron---

Yea, the fundamentals are still within reason and Barney has fessed-up to a reality. I guess even a totally jacked-up idiot can admit to a fact, although his opinion can be *revised to reflect the company line at any time.  Tell me how can anyone with even a modicum of knowledge concerning the facts of the credit crisis, crunch, failure, ACORN enabling congressional blind-eye can put Barney Frank on TV and treat him as an authority on the economy. As the renowned frontiersman Gabby Johnson has said, "ROERING"!
*Word  is the catch-all term to allow Obama to escape any scrutiny.
