If that isn't quite egg we spot on Kathleen Parker's face, perhaps it's the product seen at the right . . .
Last week, Parker became, overnight, liberals' favorite non-liberal pundit for her column calling on Sarah Palin to step down from the GOP ticket. She described Palin's interview performances as painful, cringe-inducing, and filled with "BS." Concluding that Palin is "clearly out of her league," Parker suggested Palin announce she was quitting to spend more time with her newborn.
Parker is back with her post-debate column in today's Washington Post. The very headline, "Sarah Palin's Bridge to Somewhere," is a tacit admission that Palin has a political future. "What did they do with the other Sarah Palin?" is Parker's opening line. It sounds almost like a complaint, as if Parker is dismayed to have the Palin that made the author famous pulled out from under her.
Parker goes on to describe the Palin of the debate as the "affable, tough, determined pit-bull-hockey mom" first seen at the GOP convention. While claiming to be "relieved" by Palin's performance, there's something begrudging in her conclusion [emphasis added]: "The governor of Alaska had an excellent night, there's no question about it," and Parker is quick to add that Biden won the post-debate polls "by a healthy margin."
But what about the bottom line of Parker's previous column? Does Parker still believe, after witnessing Palin ably take on Biden, that she was right to call for Sarah to step down? Parker doesn't say. The closest she comes is in her final paragraph: "Does that mean she's ready to lead the free world should circumstances warrant? That question remains."
But wait, that's followed by this final line: "Right next to same question about Barack Obama."
Oh, so now Sarah might not be qualified, but she's in the same league as Barack Obama. That sounds like a significant step up in Parker's eyes. Come on, Kathleen. It's not hard. Three little words: I was wrong.

Thanks for the egg beaters
October 4, 2008 - 06:16 ET by Gat New YorkParker should have known better in looking at the interviews with Gibson and Couric to understand the trap they set up and that Palin/McCain walked into.
And how did you know I introduced eggbeaters years ago into the market?

Parker’s Precarious Perceptions
October 4, 2008 - 07:07 ET by pocomocoAfter Parker’s initial column I sent her the following e-mail:
Ms. Parker,
I , too, must add my disappointment at your recent column on Sarah Palin and how she is unqualified to be Vice President because of, as you seem to view it, her lack of sophistication.
Kathleen, your elitism is showing. JFK and Camelot are dead and no amount of mockery on your part will bring them back.
Your comment that - “Some of Palin's interview responses can't even be critiqued on their merits because they're so nonsensical” is, in itself, “nonsensical” as you apparently haven’t been paying attention to the flip-flops and gaffes that both Obama and Biden are making on a daily basis.
As you must be aware of by now, Obama’s ‘sensical’, coherency, and sophistication come out of a teleprompter that displays speeches that have been written for him. When he does speak, sans teleprompter, he speaks in platitudes - which are truly “nonsensical”.
So, right now I am waiting with baited breath on your column about how Senators Obama and Biden are qualified to be President and Vice President Of The United States - I need a good laugh.
Worthless.
October 4, 2008 - 07:11 ET by TexndocI have no need for "conservative" columnists who want to be subject of "even conservative columnists say..." from the likes of the NYT, Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann.

October 4, 2008 - 07:27 ET by MidAmerica"Does that mean she's ready to lead the free world should circumstances warrant? That question remains."
The idea that a President sits in the Oval Office and by their own knowledge and expertise is single handedly pulling all the levers and pushing all the buttons that make the Whitehouse function is just plain wrong. Presidents are surrounded by advisors and information providers. What does a President do? He/She decides policy and direction for action after being provided advice/options. Sarah has at least to my mind proved that She is a 'Leader' in the sense that She is a true patriot and will indeed put America first. However there is another candidate in this race who remains an enigma and so has not proved that he is ready to lead.
So I just want to parse
October 4, 2008 - 07:41 ET by Jack BauerSo I just want to parse Kathleen Parker's thinking.
Sarah Palin gives a brilliant acceptance speech...
Her first TV interview is viewed as a snark fest by a liberal bloated blowhard who tries manfully to belittle Palin. To top that, it's malcioulsy edited to make her look uniformed.
The McCain campaign doesn't learn its lesson, and sets up another pointless gab fest, with the former High School cheerleader, which follows the template of the Gibson on steroids.
And based on THAT, Wobbly Knees Parker (and other conservefauxtives) jump ship instantly.
Then under the most intense pressure (generated by the McCain campaign's idiocy and addiction to the biased MSM) Palin returns fire with immense grace.
It was a brilliant VP debate performance, and that has to be admitted, whether you think she won (she did) or not.
So you have to ask Ms Parker ... which was the real Palin, the one you saw live, unedited twice.
Or the two hatchet jobs; both skillfully designed to make Palin look bad; and which, for some odd reason, the McCain campaign enabled and facilitated.
Logic dicates that the the former and not the later in the real Sarah.
Do you think these "reporters"...
October 4, 2008 - 08:28 ET by ontheright...have had access to the FULL Gibson/Couric interviews, or are they basing they're ignorant conclusions (misteps, wrong/no answers, circular answers...so on) only on the edited versions that were "customized" for the general population?
Just another pathetic attempt by the disingenuous, disrespectful, worthless MSM to hide the truth.
That's a good point . . . Does the MSM filter work on MSM'ers ?
October 4, 2008 - 08:47 ET by JayTeeWas the Couric Filtered and edited Palin interview a "Training" Video for other MSM'ers, or was the Edits viewed in depth for a True view of Palin's capabilities before this 70 million viewers Debate ?

How old do you have to be...
October 4, 2008 - 11:27 ET by zachlindI’ve read Kathleen Parker for some time and do not remember her laying the “not ready to be president’ qualifier on BHO when he launched his effort. From the beginning this hysterical loud noise coming from the liberal mainstream media and equally the self-righteous pundits has always sounded to me like a female thing, particularly with the females that write this stuff. Along with Ms Parker I have been a long time fan of Peggy Noonan. However, in the future I might have second thoughts about buying their books or reading their columns. Not because they may not agree with my politics but because of their stupid public remarks. How old do you have to be before you recognize it’s the foot that you’re chewing on.
Hardly a mea culpa
October 4, 2008 - 14:19 ET by Secret ConservativeKathleen's latest column is hardly a mea culpa. She grudgingly acknowledges that Palin did pretty well in the debates (without LYING about anything, BTW) but she still isn't happy. I wonder who her VP candidate of choice was.
And what is up with all of the "Heartbeat away from the Presidency" junk this year? In my lifetime, the VP has only taken over the presidency twice - Lyndon Johnson when JFK was killed, and Gerry Ford when Nixon stepped down. Is there a contract out on McCain or something?
I also agree with those who point out that when Obama is off-prompter he is a disaster - and the MSM simply overlooks THAT pile of donkey dung in the living room. I'd rather have Sarah Palin use the VP job as a training ground than let BHO use the Presidency as one.
Editing is no logner a secret
October 4, 2008 - 14:39 ET by MexNobamaC'mon everyone!
You too can make a film. Isn't that the heart of our new post Youtube world?
Everyone has some sort of crude movie making software in his computer.
I can edit anthing together with anything else and jade the product to suit my subjectivity.
We all know that this was done to Palin by both ABC and CBS.
The proof of Palin's ability to hold court with Biden cannot be spun away quite as easily.
Post debate polls don't matter. This was about Palin re-gaining credibility with the republican and conservative base.
They should of course have never fallen for it in the first place, but sadly Ms Parker did and now her credibility is shot.
I have said it before and I will say it again: Palin is no English professor. She is a hard working middle class woman who through raw talent and determination got the be Governor of a state.
That is success, pure and simple, and that too cannot be edited away.
I don't care about her syntax. I care about taxes. I don't care about her dropping her Gs. I care about dropping the ball on national security.
Ms Parker obviously does care about the more superficial polish of a candidate. Well, Richard M Nixon was very polished and Ronald Reagan was folksy and simple. Which guy was a better president?
I am not trying to say that as of yet Palin is Reagan. There is no new Reagan as of yet on the horizon and there will not be until Americans understand what secular humanist socialists want to do to our economy, and our rights.
In the meantime Palin gets closer to the ideals of Reagan than W McCain or any other current Republican on the scene.
Maybe Parker and Palin should go Hunting together ?
October 4, 2008 - 14:55 ET by JayTeeParker get your Gun, the Last time Palin went "Hunting" for meat, she pulled the trigger . . . and it wasn't a "Warning Shot".

Yes that would be excellent:
And the fly on the wall would hear this:
Palin: "Well now John, I know ya really can't stand that Barack cos he's friends with terrorists and all, but ya gotta bite the bullet and look at him every now and again there...."
McCain: "Can't I just have bamboo shoots stuck under my nails like back in prison camp...(laughter) Nah, you're right Sarah. I have to do it."
Palin "Well now that's the spirit John. This fight ain't over yet and we're gonna give 'em hell this week you betcha..."
I hope that something of this nature is being discussed.

My dad is an absolute business genius. He also speaks a form of English that makes Desi Araz sound like Sir Laurence Olivier.
Laguage skills are only one identifying form of intellect and in my dad's case he just had a tin ear for language.
To his credit however he spoke English only to us at home.
He spoke enough to go from factory worker to successful small business man in about 15 years. He was so talented that he actually made money during the CARTER years. Imagine that. Ronald Reagan, however, was his hero.
I guess I just have a soft spot for plain speaking individuals who nevertheless have much to offer.

I'd never paid much attention...
October 4, 2008 - 16:58 ET by PrairieSkyto Ms. Parker before she made her ridiculously lame comments concerning Gov. Palin. Now, in her comments today in the WaPo, she apparently has reversed herself...Sort of.
I can't begin to understand how Ms. Parker thinks, but there is one thing that I'm sure of as a result of her inept analysis of Gov. Palin...She has lost whatever credibility she ever had as a serious conservative columnist.
"...peace is the highest aspiration of the American People. We will negotiate for it, sacrifice for it, we will never surrender for it, now or ever." President Ronald Reagan, January 20, 1981
Weak And Weaker
October 4, 2008 - 20:43 ET by Intellectual HonestyThis is what I wrote last night on another forum:
Parker: "And she said it in the nicest, gosh-darn way, bless her little heart. The GOP loved it, but did anyone else? Did Palin change hearts and minds? Probably not. My suspicion, bolstered by early polls, is that people left the debate with their original impressions intact. "
Nobody's mind was changed? Please!
I would have no problem with Parker criticizing whoever she wants as long as it is honest criticism. Leaving her reasoning of why Palin should dropout aside, Parker didn't just criticize but demanded the undemandable by saying Palin should be dropped. Neither campaign would be able to recover from such a dramatic action especially McCain in the environment of the Obama-loving MSM.
So Parker, who states she does indeed want McCain to win, in calling for the dropping of Palin was in essence asking McCain to make a change that guarantees he would lose...so that McCain could win. Great logic huh? And she knew full well that she would then be quoted by the MSM, as she was, in the media line that "even key conservatives are saying Palin should be dropped" meme.
This column is a classic example of trying to justify what was indeed her blunder and pretend that somehow she is showing courage. She is dishonest and has given National Review a big black eye.
I have abosolutely had it
October 4, 2008 - 21:26 ET by Ryan Mc.I have abosolutely had it with self proclaimed conservatives who run around bashing true conservatism. If its not McCain in the Senate taking a dump on the GOP its a psuedo intellectual writer like Peggy Noonan, George Will, or Kathleen Parker hand wringing about other conservatives. I was very upset with Fred Barnes bashing the house republicans who actually were acting conservative while Barnes was acting liberal but said the house conservatives were stupid and crazy. I'm just sick of these people.
