Happy When America's Hurting, Gloomy When It Wins

Photo of Mark Finkelstein.

Of course we all know that it's absolutely wrong and mean-spirited to suggest that anyone on the left could conceivably be unpatriotic [though an exception might be made for unrepentant terrorist friends of Barack Obama who accept from Vietnamese communists rings made from downed US planes.]  So while we won't be using the u-word here, two recent MSNBC shows offer a remarkable contrast. Let's compare Chris Matthews' giddy reaction to news of difficulties in the markets with Mika Brzezinski's gloom in begrudgingly discussing the Iraq surge's success.

View the video here.

The first portion of  the video is from the opening of Hardball of September 15th, the day when news was breaking of Lehman and Merrill Lynch's travails, and the DJIA had sunk over 500 points.  Matthews could hardly contain his glee, comparing McCain to Hoover, and declaring that because of the "terrible news" about the economy, "as of today, this is no longer an election about lipstick on pigs, misleading ads or how many houses a candidate owns. This is serious.  The economy is a real issue. With real consequences." Then there was today's discussion on Morning Joe of the surge's success.  Mika's pout—on view in the screencap—epitomizes her reaction.  I commend the entire video clip to your attention, but would focus on these exchanges.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Let's look at the facts on the ground: Al-Qaeda in Iraq went from owning western Iraq [Anbar], where John  McCain actually said in 2006 it looks like we're going to lose western Iraq, we have to understand that and maybe focus on Baghdad. They went from that to driving Al-Qaeda in Iraq out. They went from Baghdad neighborhoods being killing fields, where al-Sadr was the most powerful person in Baghdad.  When Petraeus and the surge came, he raced into Iran.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Let me—can I respond?

SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, you can respond. But Mika, I just don't understand.  Don't be so doctrinaire on Iraq, where you can't shift and say maybe it was a mistake  in '03, maybe Bush made mistakes through '06, but don't be so ideological and doctrinaire that you can't admit that some amazing things have been done there by Petraeus.

BRZEZINSKI: No. I just look at the big picture: al-Qaeda has reconstituted itself elsewhere; we are not necessarily safer, and our military has been worn thin. So within all the things that you say, we have to look at the big picture and figure out do we have a safer situation, or are we roiling these areas into perhaps further conflicts down the road.

And a bit later, after Joe recounted an anecdote of how McCain took him aside before the surge began and told him to have confidence in Petraeus's extraordinary abilities to turn the situation around . . .

SCARBOROUGH: [McCain] was dead right when the rest of the world was wrong.

BRZEZINSKI: I still don't characterize it as a good situation. I characterize it as --

SCARBOROUGH: Why are you doing this?  Do you realize how silly you look doing this?  Your feet are in cement.

Watch the video, Mika NEVER

Watch the video, Mika NEVER looks a Joe. Its like she has to keep to the talking points and that if she looks at him she will forget them? Watch her face, its classic..

Ronald Reagan, 1962: I did not leave the Democratic party, the party left me.

Insert: your name, 2008, and the Republican party.

I find that some times I

I find that some times I just have to walk away from politics for a while before my head explodes.

This is one of those times.

The attacks on Palin, the government giving our money away to  anyone that wants it except us, (by the tractor trailer load) to the BS oil drilling law they came up with last night. The fact that Nancy wants to investigate Wall St. when it should be their ass that gets investigated, prosecuted, and jailed. To Mc Cain talking how it needs more regulation or 9/11 hearings, or its time to stop greed!!!

Carter and Clinton that started this whole mess of not allowing load companies not to red line or deny people loans because they were high risk.

I have been yelling at the TV for about 3 or 4 days. My wife had a suggestion, she told me: either go to the boat and do some work, go fishing, or go shoot some skeet.. I think I will. Talk to you guys later..

Ronald Reagan, 1962: I did not leave the Democratic party, the party left me.

Insert: your name, 2008, and the Republican party.

I experience the same thing

Watching Pelosi announce her "bipartisan" drilling bill was too much. That was my breaking point.

"skeet"

Is that code for "liberals"?

Barbra too.

In the View interview, Barbra never looks at Mccain either.

So... if accepting rings

So... if accepting rings made from the metal of downed US airplanes makes you unpatriotic, what does volunteering to exchange military information for medical care by one of the pilots of those downed planes make him?

It makes him a tortured

It makes him a tortured prisoner, who finally broke, that's what it makes him. No one tortured Obama to make him take the rings.

Are you pissed at John McCain because he couldn't withstand torture? For crying out loud, they smashed his fingers, broke his arms, and other things. He was in unbearable pain for who knows how long before he finally broke, to get some relief. And he even felt ashamed after.  Do you think Obama feels shame for taking those rings?

During the first Gulf War, if I'm not mistaken, they had a couple of downed pilots on TV within 24 hours saying they were war criminals. I wouldn't fault these guys, because I don't know what was done to them.  But to call John McCain "unpatriotic" because he broke under prolonged torture is downright despicable and you should be ashamed of yourself!

Sorry mother, but by

Sorry mother, but by McCain's own admission, he volunteered to trade military information for treatment of his knee BEFORE he was tortured.  He had only been a POW for less than three days when he made his deal with the devil and sold out his country.  You really need to check your facts a bit more.

So... if someone who buys a ring is a traitor, what is the guy who sells out his country after less than three days and no torture?  I mean, I got tortured worse than McCain did in my three days as a prisioner at SERE school, and I didn't sell my country out.

In his book, McCain

In his book, McCain said:

"Demands for military information were accompanied by threats to terminate my medical treatment if I did not cooperate......I thought they were bluffing and refused to provide any information beyond my name, rank and serial number, and date of birth. They knocked me around a little to force my cooperation......Eventually, I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant......[  ]...I regret very much having done so. The information was of no real use to the Vietnamese, but the Code of Conduct for American Prisoners of War orders us to refrain from providing any information beyond our names, rank and serial number."

He did not "volunteer" information before he was tortured.  The info he gave them was of no use...all they had was the satisfaction of making him confess to targeting the power plant.

That was  40 years ago.  I think he has atoned.

I repeat: what pressure was put on Barack Obama to  accept a ring that was a symbol of America's defeat?

Yeah... that's what he wrote

Yeah... that's what he wrote in 1999 as he was gearing up for a presidential run and needed to reinvent himself.  In 1973, when he was just a former POW and had no need to lie, he wrote: "I looked at my knee. It was about the size, shape and color of a football. I remembered that when I was a flying instructor a fellow had ejected from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to us—a man dying of a broken leg. Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me.

"When I saw it, I said to the guard, "O.K., get the officer." An officer came in after a few minutes. It was the man that we came to know very well as "The Bug." He was a psychotic torturer, one of the worst fiends that we had to deal with. I said, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital."

Bruzilla, I dont think you

Bruzilla, I dont think you comprehend the stark brutality of the Vietnamese, nor do you seem to understand the horrors of war. Its all well and fine for you to sit in your safe little haven, second guessing what you think Mac should have done. The reality of is, untill you experience at least some of the discomforts of RVN, and dig down deep and see just how you would have reacted, you have very little room to critize.

Untill your laying in the mud, and tasting your own blood from your wounds, and unable to fight back, realizing your life depends on the protection of others...

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Punk

You are no better than those that spit on returning Vietnam Vets.  You do not deserver the freedom that so many veterans have died to bring you.  People like you make me sick to my stomach.  Freedom is something that you have neither earned nor deserve.

Don't waste your time on blogs.  Why don't you go to a bar outside a Marine or Army base on a Friday night and tell them your opinion of John McCain.  Show me that you are not a coward.  They will be much kinder to you than the VC were on McCain, but you'll be crying for your mother, offering your sister and saying whatever they want you to within two minutes... Provided you live that long.

Olberzilla: Disgusting.

Olberzilla:

Disgusting.  You warbled these vicious slanders before.  I linked the USNews article you cited with specifics demonstrating your lies.  You gave no response.

Since you appear to have comprehension/veracity issues, I'll condense McCain's treatment and condition as reported from the actual USNews article:

  1. In the aftermath of his ejection, "... I had broken my right leg around the knee, my right arm in three places, and my left arm."

  2. "One of them slammed a rifle butt down on my shoulder, and smashed it pretty badly. Another stuck a bayonet in my foot."

  3. "For the next three or four days, I lapsed from conscious to unconsciousness."

  4. "They beat me around a little bit. I was in such bad shape that when they hit me it would knock me unconscious. They kept saying, "You will not receive any medical treatment until you talk.""

  5. "I think it was on the fourth day that two guards came in, instead of one. One of them pulled back the blanket to show the other guard my injury. I looked at my knee. It was about the size, shape and color of a football. I remembered that when I was a flying instructor a fellow had ejected from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to us—a man dying of a broken leg. Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me."

  6. "He left and came back with a doctor, a guy that we called "Zorba," who was completely incompetent. He squatted down, took my pulse. He did not speak English, but shook his head and jabbered to "The Bug." I asked, "Are you going to take me to the hospital?" "The Bug" replied, "It's too late." I said, "If you take me to the hospital, I'll get well."

"Zorba" took my pulse again, and repeated, "It's too late." They got up and left, and I lapsed into unconsciousness."

McCain was in bad shape at the start and progressed to critical condition.  Like many that have experienced the horrors of war, McCain underplays the events.  He was tortured by his captors before he "broke".  They just coudn't torture him on such a grand scale to your satisfaction because he would pass out quickly due to his injuries.  Shame he couldn't stay awake for more torture to prove what a man he was, huh Bruzilla?

Humans break under torture.  That's why torture is applied, whether for military information, political propaganda or dominance over an individual.  Your false assertions and implications reveals a bitterness and smallness that is stunning.

As someone who has observed

As someone who has observed SERE, and participant in several phases on the bad guy side.  YOU WERE NOT TORTURED.

Nor were you presented the opportunity to "Sell out your country."

Thanks for chiming in

Thanks for chiming in guys.

I have to make a correction: I was wrong, it was Ayers or his wife who accepted the rings, not Obama.

But still, to equate the two situations is just ridiculous. And apparently Bruzilla has no answer for the "pressure" part of that, because he would rather bash McCain than talk about Obama's terrorist friends.

HA! HA! HA! Bruz....You

HA! HA! HA! Bruz....You were tortured in SERE school?? Thats a good one. Now thats funny, there. I dont care who you are....lol!

Nazi Pelosi is trying to say that the Dems are not to blame. See story. They share jsut as much responsiblity as anyone

If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!

I will go out on a limb

I will go out on a limb here and say that despite the heroic efforts of our brave soldiers, any temporary victories we have in Iraq will never mean much in the big picture.

I'm saying this as an unapologetic nationalist and a strong believer of America first.  The Middle East is a cesspool of never-ending violence.  We can go over there and knock heads, but unless we establish a permanent and ruthless occupation, we will never have adequate control.

Us pushing democracy means nothing to a goat-herder living in a tent, and worrying that a rival tribe is going to roll in at any time and wipe him out.  Warlords are the rule of law over there.

That is why I get so frustrated when talking heads, like Hannity, talk about "victory" in Iraq.  This, to me, is completely meaningless.  We can beat the hell out of the bad guys, but they will still be there whenever/ifever we get out of that mess.

With respect, I disagree

I agree with you to some degree, Killgrave, but let me throw this at you. I think the surge has proven a lot more than just how to get out of Iraq. Let me explain.

  • You'll hear Democrats and anti-surge opponents snidely argue that the reason we're winning now is because we're paying off the Sunnis. Then they scoff at that. Why? Is it "less honorable" than killing them with a high tech weapon?
  • So what does the surge prove? They can be bought.
  • And if they have a price, they're rational. They understand the concept of risk and reward. They're not so religiously narrow that they'd rather fight than work together. They'll work together if they think there's some hope of a reward, and that the reward will be shared fairly.

The surge, in my opinion, proved that if you can show them how to profit, they will work together. Until now, with all the dictators and mullahs and old fashioned gang mentality, no one had any hope of a future. That's why they indulged in all the fighting, because there was no hope of anything else. Now, with the surge, the American military has shown them what cooperation could mean. Until now, the fighting never stopped long enough to show them how peaceful cooperation could be better than petty violence. If we bribed them to do it, so what? All we need to do is give them the breathing space. Then, the natural human self-interest will take over.

And, like the surge in Iraq, the central government will be the last domino to fall, not the first. Anbar province bought the strategy behind the surge long before it had any effect in Baghdad. That'll be the blueprint for change everywhere else.

KC: You make cogent points,

KC: You make cogent points, per usual. However, I don't see much use of a "central government" that is infested with Islamic clerics and fundamentalists who will end up knifing us in the back, no matter how they conduct themselves in the present.  It happens time and time again with these jokers.  Today's friends will be tomorrow's blood enemies.

Rome made use of local governments, sure.  But there was never any question who was in charge, and what would happen to puppets who got out of line.  Our modern sensibilities don't allow us to achieve an effective occupation.  We now call it "nation-building".

But that's the point

The whole moral premise of capitalism is that when people pursue their self-interest, reason leads them to treat others fairly. It isn't because they become saints overnight, but because it's in their interest. Capitalism doesn't change anyone's moral character. It simply changes their "cost-efficiency" analysis. And that's the value of it ... you don't need to transform anyone's character.

But I agree with you about nation-building. I wouldn't have chosen to stay there. My plan would have been to get rid of Saddam, destroy any WMDs, and get out. No attempt to rebuild the place. I'm not sure we'd have been any worse off, frankly. But since that's not an option anymore, we play the hand we're dealt.

Careful

It's gross generalizations like "democracy means nothing to a goat-herder" that lead to gross generalizations about conservatives.  Remember also that when this country was founded, we were mostly a bunch of farmers of whom Britain said (in effect) "Democracy and freedom will mean nothing to a bunch of peasants."

But if our founders taught us nothing else, they stressed that freedom is a God-given right of all people.  It may take time to realize the power of their new-found voice (and the freedom to use it), but you cannot diminish the accomplishment of freedom, or avoid the pursuit of it, because the recipients of it are simple.

Freedom is the right of all

Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. --Optimus Prime

Sorry, had to. :)

I don't remember there

I don't remember there being large, multi-changing robots in the American Revolution.  But that would've been awesome.

We would've retaken Boston very easily if we had Omega Supreme.

All due respect, our

All due respect, our founders were clearly members of the upper class.  They were highly educated and cultured.  In fact, there was a bit of friction between these men and patriots such as Paul Revere, who was a highly skilled silversmith, but not a man of great wealth and status.  He ended up hitting a ceiling, and was quite bitter about it. We certainly treasure freedom above all else as a western civilization, but that is the privilege of an advanced culture.  In other parts of the world, the right to vote doesn't mean much when some lunatic is about to burn down your village.  It doesn't mean much when you are, from birth, brainwashed to accept, unconditionally, the instruction of a fundamentalist cleric.  And keep in mind that most of these people are illiterate, which makes them much easier to control.

Liberals like to pretend that every culture is just as good, if not better, than ours, and that we should be more like them.  Neo-cons like to pretend these backward cultures are fertile grounds for democracy, and they will eagerly adapt to our way of life, if given half a chance.  I don't believe either of them.

This is 2008

I still can't believe the degree to which the media and the Democrats are running on perspectives that have nothing to do with the circumstances we face right now.

  • In their calculus, Iraq is still falling apart. As is well-documented, that's no longer true.
  • As for the economy, I have spent the last few days chewing over and reading about what Greenspan said over the weekend. If these financial institutions went bust twenty years ago, the American economy would have tanked, big time. What's fascinating is that the economy hasn't tanked. It ain't jumping, but it's still kicking. Why? Greenspan says it's because the economy is more diverse and globalized. From what I'm reading, that may very likely be true.

We remember the old saw about always fighting the last war. That's true of the Democrats and the media. McCain has shown that he can see circumstances change, and respond to them. Obama is still fighting the 2000 and 2004 elections all over again.

Greenspan

When Greenspan was still in office he made it his official policy not to prevent bubbles but to prepare the market for the eventual collapse of the bubble.  In his estimation bubbles increased the market and proper preparation would allow growth with an eventual smaller setback.  The problem is when politicians inflate bubbles for social or political desires.  This makes it difficult to reduce the effects, hold accountable wrongdoers and allow the market to make corrections.

Agreed

I must say, I dislike the idea of bailing out any of these "institutions." It's a shame (and I hope it's merely accidental) that this bubble burst in the last lap of the election season. During a normal time, the smart move would be to let the market do its job and punish poor risks. That creates a short-term hardship, but it leads to a healthier long term. Now, because politicians are reluctant to allow any hardship, temporary as it may be, they're willing to throw good money after bad.

Unreal

SCARBOROUGH: Why are you doing this?  Do you realize how silly you look doing this?

And Joe wasn't even looking at Mika's face as he said this.  She looked like she was sucking on a bushel of lemons.

I'm only sorry John McCain wasn't there today, to really take a shot at her for being in the tank.

As an aside, I was gardening yesterday, two (out of two) neighbors walking by wanted to know where I got the McCain yard sign.  There are three so far in my neighborhood, and no Obama signs.

McCain Proudly Engaging In Identity Theft!

After being exposed for Lying, McCain is now Engaging in Identity Theft -- as he is now sounding more like Barack every day -- Change we can believe in, Enough is Enough and now Regulation!  Maybe he thinks he can lie, steal and cheat his way to the Presidency.  After all its been done before!

Yesterday McCain said we needed a 911 Commission-like study to investigate our failing economy, however,  yesterday in his speech in Colorado Barack hit back at McCain with "Instead of offering up concrete plans to solve these issues, Senator McCain offered up the oldest Washington stunt in the book -- you pass the buck to a commission to study the problem," . "But here's the thing - this isn't 9/11."  Barack went on to elaborate -- we know how we have got here, and what we need is Leadership!"  This shows a distinct contrast from a Party with no new ideas and failed policies to Barack, who does have ideas and who is ready to lead!

I quess there is a light at the end of the tunnel because Five Conservative writers have now come forward to speak out and tell the truth that Sarah Palin is not qualified and is not experienced to lead as Vice President or the Presidency.  They are making it clear to the public that John McCain made a poor judgment call, a rash judgment and an unneeded risk when times are bad and in a crisis mode.  As a gambler, McCain should know you never take an unneeded risk in a crisis when things are already shaky.  Enough is Enough!   The American people will not reward a dishonorale and immoral man to the top job in the land, someone they cannot have confidence in.   A Wizard as in Oz, who blusters and pretends but has no real solutions.  American people want someone they can trust and believe in.  They want a renewed Government working and looking out for them again, not just corporations and  Fat Cats -- Giving welfare bailouts and support to Corporations and none to everyday Americans.

So you got your guns, but you can't afford to pay your mortgage?  We have to get rid of that mentallity and embrace unity and change for all.  Look, there is a message in Ground Zero -- that afer 7 years, it is still a dark hole.  This is is a symbol of the failed polices of Republicans, that after 7 years, Ground Zero is still a hole, left desolate and it speaks volumes that we are a country unable to find leadership, unable to unite and unable to rebuild and show ourselves and the world that we know how to overcome adversary, yet trillions of dollars go daily to Iraq, to allegedly rebuild a country which should never have been invaded in the first place. Talk about selling someone the Yellow Brick Road, I mean OIL!   Because continued Drilling is not going to end our addiction, it is a band aid.   We need 21st Century ideas and innovations, we need Intelligence instead of experience.  We need the intellectual capacity of someone who can see the way forward when it is dark and to lead us out of the dark and into the light.  We need a Rudolph whose nose was so bright, only he could lead the way from darkness to light and from the unreal to the real.

It's also quite appropriate, using one fairy tale to describe another.

Barack went on to elaborate -- we know how we have got here, and what
we need is Leadership!"  This shows a distinct contrast from a Party
with no new ideas and failed policies to Barack, who does have ideas
and who is ready to lead!

"What we need is leadership!" is not a plan.

WHAT ARE HIS IDEAS?   WHAT IS HIS PLAN?????

Besides decrying "the failed policies of the Bush administration" that is.

We need the intellectual capacity of someone
who can see the way forward when it is dark and to lead us out of the
dark and into the light.

Oh, my, you have the Messiah bug really bad......

Five Conservative writers

Five Conservative writers have now come forward to speak out and tell
the truth that Sarah Palin is not qualified and is not experienced to
lead as Vice President or the Presidency.

And these same Five Conservative writers say Obama is even less qualified than Palin, so the choice is clear, vote for the most qualified, McCain.

"yet trillions of dollars

"yet trillions of dollars go daily to Iraq,"

Trillions....daily? That means we spend, at minimum, 730 trillion dollars a year in Iraq alone. You are fool and a moron, not to mention a liar. No wonder you're voting for Obama. You'd have to be one of those to buy into his load of crap.

By the way, didn't Obama say we need to have hearings on the economy? Not something old school like a commission, but something different and new school like a....congressional hearing.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....

I shouldn't laugh, because it really is sad that there are so many people this dumb out there.

By the way, Obama also said that McCain believes in a philosophy that doesn't work. That philosophy is capitalism. That should tell the rest of us all we need to know.

I too will take a shot at a reply.....

As I was reading your rant, my immediate reaction was to comment as Blonde did, but since this is a forum of opinion I will address some of your particular statements.

"Barack went on to elaborate" - Barak elaborated? What solution did he offer?
"what we need is Leadership!"  - To do what?
"Barack, who does have ideas and who is ready to lead!" - Ohh, I get it. To have ideas and be ready.
"As a gambler, McCain should know you never take an unneeded risk in a crisis when things are already shaky." - No, he knows when to hold them, and knows when to fold them.

"They want a renewed Government working and looking out for them again,
not just corporations and  Fat Cats -- Giving welfare bailouts and
support to Corporations and none to everyday Americans."
- Thanks for clearing up what Americans want. I personally want freedom from socialist posers who portend to know what I am thinking.

"So you got your guns, but you can't afford to pay your mortgage?" - I can pay my mortgage without a gun. Please take a closer look at the people who cannot pay their mortgage, they are the same people, like yourself, who believe that nanny government should coddle them from cradle to grave using the sweat and effort of real, hardworking Americans. Suck it, will ya.

More voters at the grocery store

While standing in line at the grocery store yesterday a lady behind me pointed to a magazine at the checkout counter with Sarah Palin’s picture on the cover and asked me “what I thought about her”. You’re always a little hesitant to answer in those situations but I told her I was a fan and will be voting for McCain and Palin. She very quickly and loudly answered, “me too”. She looked to be around 40 and went on to say that she had planned to sit this election out but when Sarah was added to the ticket she changed her mind. Interesting conversation.

McCain Maverick

In fact, Senator McCain was constantly hounding Bush more than four years ago telling him we had to put in the amount of forces needed to win the war.  This is just one example of McCain separating from Bush. Obama voted with Harry Reid 95% if the time.  Now that's scary.

McCain was only hounding

McCain was only hounding Bush for more troops because that's what the military leaders in Iraq were saying.  It's great that they identified the need for new troops, but absent a strategy as to what you're going to do with them there isn't much sense in sending them, which was why Bush (under advisement from Rumsfeld) didn't send them.  It wasn't until Condi rice and her team came up with the strategy that became The Surge that Bush had a way to actually make use of more troops... and McCain had nothing to do with any of that.

Bruzilla is such a typical

Bruzilla is such a typical leftist.  When the truth doesn't support their side, they resort to distortion and lies.

McCain isn't a war hero...he's a bigger traitor than Bill Ayers.

McCain wasn't responsible for the surge...he "had nothing to do with any of that."

Bruzilla is a disgrace to America and anything that is right or decent in the world.  Newsbusters doesn't need to let rotten DailyKos trash on it's blogs.

I think......

Bruzilla has the smoldering embers of an intellegent thought, only his BDS will not let it germinate. All battles are reaction/counter-reaction after the initial contact. We do one thing, they counter with something else. It took years of study and training to make the surge effective to counter the jihadists and their tactics. I believe General Patreus and his staff should be given the bulk of the credit for thier well thought out "surge". I also give credit to President Bush for staying focused and never wavering in the face of adversity. Senator McCain know instinctively what was needed, but might not of been in the loop as to what was being planned.

I also agree Bruzilla is a "typical leftist disgrace", but should be allowed to post wherever he wants to so that later in life his diet will be the fiber of his crumbled words and ideas shoved down his throat.

Mika the Robot

I could see the circuits in Mika's head shorting out making her eyes

shift and head jerk around.

I expected her to pull a Robbie the Robot and flail her arms around screaming. "It does not compute!"

I have sensed this FOR YEARS

Thank you NewsBusters.org!  I appreciate having a place I can come to for affirmation that I am not TOTALLY CRAZY!  I have sensed this joy in bad news and gloomy good news reporting for a long long time.  For awhile I was thinking "What is wrong with me"?  I just knew that these "journalists" were not being REAL.  They were just parroting DNC talking points over and over in an attempt to BRAINWASH me!  I no longer think I'm crazy.  NOW I'M MAD AS HELL AT PBS CBS ABC NBC and the other INITIALISMS that I can't think of right now.  Except for FOX :-)

Remember, Mika's Daddy is Barack's "Foreign Policy" Advisor or something like that.  He wasn't good when he worked for Carter, so why should he be better now?

Mika sounded more stupid than she's ever sounded when I heard this this morning.  She could not bring herself to admit the surge worked.  I thought Joe was going to come out of his chair...LOL

When hasn' t al-qaeda not been in many countrys?

BRZEZINSKI: No. I just look at the big picture: al-Qaeda has
reconstituted itself elsewhere; we are not necessarily safer, and our
military has been worn thin. So within all the things that you say, we
have to look at the big picture and figure out do we have a safer
situation, or are we roiling these areas into perhaps further conflicts
down the road.

That is my question for the Java twins, when hasn't al-qaeda been reported as having bases -cells, in many countrys around the world? How is relieving them of a safe base of opperations, sitting on top of the worlds 3rd largest oil supply (see petrol economics) a bad thing?

Who again exactly is this woman Mika's father?

I just look at the big

I just look at the big picture: al-Qaeda has
reconstituted itself elsewhere;

Yeah, it has marginalized itself to lesser communicating communities where it has greater problems becoming of influence.  See the latest polls of the Middle East where over the past year AQ has swan dived to its lowest approval ratings ever.  THis can be directly attibutable to its asskicking in Iraq (WHich it called "The Central Front) and its inability to seize Afghanistan from the west.

If AQ were to hold up on French Frigate Shoals or Easter Island, would that be dangerous in Mikas eyes?

and our military has been worn thin.

I would debate this.  We are facing challenges, mostly inflicted by the huge cuts the DOD took in the CLinton years, but we are recovering and expanding.

Who again exactly is this woman Mika's father?

Probably a diplo since he obvously never taught her to think Strategically/Operationally/Tactically.
