Surge: Mika Makes Like Barack

Me and Mrs. Jones,
we've got a thing going on.
We both know that it's wrong,
but it's much too strong
to let it go now. -- Billy Paul, "Me and Mrs. Jones"

Don't get me wrong.   I'm not suggesting there's anything untoward between Mika Brzezinski and the Dem presidential candidate.  But like the star-crossed couple of the song, the two do share a tragic bond, trapped as they are in an inability to admit they were wrong in opposing the surge.

The depths of Obama's denial emerged during a five-minute segment of his recent interview with Katie Couric.  Couric tried repeatedly to pin Obama down on why he says he still would have opposed the surge, even knowing as he does know that it has succeeded.  As Couric put it: "People may be scratching their heads and saying, 'Why?'"  I'd encourage people to view the exchange, which comes at the five-minute mark of the interview.  CBS video and transcript here.

And there on today's Morning Joe was the other half of the duo in denial, Mika Brzezinski.  With Joe Scarborough playing the role of Couric-like inquisitor, Mika tried to talk about anything but the way Obama was wrong about the surge.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Right now Barack Obama says the surge was a great thing, many good things come from it, but he's still against it.

WILLIE GEIST: Wouldn't have done it.

SCARBOROUGH: Wouldn't have done it. US troop deaths: down. Still wouldn't have done it.  Baghdad: calmer. Still wouldn't have done it. Western Iraq: safe. Still wouldn't have done it. Basra: peaceful. Still wouldn't have done it.  We're going to find out why!

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Ye-a-a-a-h, we're going to find out why.  And we'll talk about, maybe, some of the other issues pertaining to that, as well as the fact that some people --

SCARBOROUGH: "That"? What does "that" mean? What does "that" mean?

BRZEZINSKI: Well I'm just saying, there is still the argument about exactly how we got into to this, and whether or not we should be there in the first place and what it accomplishes, and exactly what the state of our military is right now and where we go from here. Having said that—there is a hurricane, we will be following --

SCARBOROUGH: By the way, Willie, let me ask you, let me ask you.  Did a single thing she said have anything to do with the surge?

GEIST: No.

BRZEZINSKI: No, but you guys can't talk about the success of the surge like it's the only thing going on.  You have to look at the big picture. It's great that the surge --

SCARBOROUGH: But if, Mika, if --

BRZEZINSKI: It's fabuluous that they finally got it together.

SCARBOROUGH: I know this is upsetting you, because we're going after your man, but

BRZEZINSKI: Wh-a-a-a-t?

SCARBOROUGH: The question is: do you support the surge?  Not: do you support the war?  Not: do you support what happened in 2004?

BRZEZINSKI: But the surge is an intrinsic part of the war.  I'd say the surge is something that had to be done in a war that perhaps --

SCARBOROUGH: What's she saying? What's she saying, Willie? I don't mean to be short.

GEIST: Answer the question, man.

SCARBOROUGH: You won't answer the -- this is what Barack Obama.

BRZEZINSKI: I'm telling you that for five years, this whole thing was botched.

SCARBOROUGH: OK, so this is a summary --

BRZEZINSKI: And you guys are acting like "oh-h-h-h!, we should have done --

SCARBOROUGH: They're finally getting it right, and now Barack Obama is saying "I'm against the part that's finally getting it right."

BRZEZINSKI: I'm not talking about that. I'm not talking for Barack Obama.

SCARBOROUGH: No, but what you're saying, though, sounds exactly like what Barack Obama's saying. Willie, do we have this Katie Couric interview?

GEIST: I was going to say, you sound like Katie Couric. You ask one question, she answers something else.

BRZEZINSKI: I do?  Some would say I don't. But, whatever.  OK.

SCARBOROUGH:  In the interview, she just kept going back to him: "was the surge good?" "Yes, it was great."  "Are you for it?" "Um, well, no." "OK, but it was --

BRZEZINSKI: It's, look, I think it's complicated --

SCARBOROUGH: Mika, why, come on, why don't you just admit that he is caught trying to have it both ways?

Why? Because the Obamessiah is infallible.  That's why.

By the way, not to look a gift Couric interview in the mouth, but at one point Obama claimed "there's no doubt that our U.S. troops have contributed to a reduction of violence in Iraq. I said that, not just today, not just yesterday, but I've said that previously."  I suppose that previously, Obama has said pretty much everything. But how I wish Katie had handy these little Obama gems [source here and here] on the surge to quote back to him:

  • I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.
  • Given the deteriorating situation, it is clear at this point that we cannot, through putting in more troops or maintaining the presence that we have, expect that somehow the situation is going to improve.
  • Finally, in 2006-2007 we started to see that even after an election George Bush continued to want to pursue a course that didn't withdraw troops from Iraq but actually doubled up and initiated the search. To not see improvements but could actually worsen the potential situation.
  • We can send 15,00 more troops, 20,000 more troops, 30,000 more troops. I don't know any expert on the region, or any military officer that I've spoken to privately, that believes that that is going to make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.

When The Obamanation treats the Axis Media this way

When The Obamanation treats the Axis Media this way, eventually they will turn on him. For his Presidential hopes sake, he better hope it is later. Couric was dissed and she knows it. Couric's ego matches The Obamanation's and beyond. They've given him and pass but they won't do it perpetually, media egos NEVER do that.

Next Please! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal.

Polo Vaccine? Not my idea, therefore not good idea!

Is it just me, or does it sound like the Big Giant Head that contains Barack's ego can't wrap its mind around any idea that didn't originate there?  And I'm sorry Chrissy, but anyone with a brain is not going to give Barack credit for proposing a timetable for withdrawal that would not have been possible without the success of the surge.  Mika, et al, can stonewall all they want for their man, but most of us can see the absurdity of his position.

How fast will Mika agree

How fast will Mika agree with Obama when he finally admits that the surge has worked? not to self and others...do not hold breath

I remember when "Bush was

I remember when "Bush was in denial" and "out of touch" and "living in a bubble"

don't hear that anymore do we:)?

No we don't... Also I would

No we don't... Also I would be interested to hear if Hagel and or Reed agree with his Obamaness

Some would say.... LOL

"GEIST: I was going to say, you sound like Katie Couric. You ask one question, she answers something else.

BRZEZINSKI: I do? Some would say I don't. But, whatever. OK."

LOL. She actually used the "some would say" line to defend her self.

This dingbat is just fodder for Scarborough. One big, empty-headed, teleprompter-reading ditz. She'd be in over her head on The View, let alone sitting next to Scarborough.

Some would say...

Aren't ALL the females on MSNBlah "empty-headed, teleprompter-reading ditzes? MSNBlah is no longer a NEWS network...more like an opinion network.  All I have to say is WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK!!!!!

Helmethead sooo smitten

"Tempted by the fruit of another..."

You can't have him, Mika; he belongs to all of us.

Some time in the late 1700's....

George Washington: The way to win is to cross the Delaware and take out the British.

Obama: We shouldn't have gotten into this war in the first place. This "crossing the river" won't work. Benedict Arnold agrees with me. The war is [hopefully] lost.

later....

Washington, Franklin, Adams, et al..The crossing worked. We have them on the run. Independence is near. Yeah, we don't have a unified Government yet, but we're working on it....

Obama: The crossing might have had some benefits. But why did we enter this war in the first place? There was no evidence that King George was an immediate threat. I wouldn't have crossed that river. Trust me, I know revolutionary war tactics, and you need to elect me as Commander in Chief. I'll serve this country forever....

many, many years later,...

Patten: We need to plan for turning our Army around...

Obama: There was no need to make a stand at the Bulge. What do our Generals mean by saying "nuts"? This was the time to negotiate....

Excellent, ThisnThat!

The makings of a great movie script. Or at least a commercial for McCain. Yeh...I know...he wouldn't use it. It's too devisive.

What did Joe say today about Olbermann?

I was reading some comments on HuffPo (morning masochism) and they implied Scarborough referred to Olberman (not by name) as a idiot or moron or something, and how they "can't wait for Keith tonight!!"

Sort of cute as one comment said :"oh, he didn't name him by name, but said he was an idiot, and you know who he meant!!!"   Yes, yes I do.

The babblings of "Einstein"

The babblings of "Einstein" Brezinski...she made absolutely no sense when Joe asked her to explain. She's so in the tank and so wanting to be part of Obama's harram, she's stumbles on her own words...

I can't stand it...She's MSNBC's version of Abu Graib...sheer torture...

Well, if noted military

Well, if noted military expert "Bubbles" Brzezinski is against the surge, perhaps I should reconsider my position.

wonder how Mika and the

wonder how Mika and the others will react to this: from drudge

SDEROT, Israel (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Wednesday a nuclear Iran would pose a "grave threat" and that the world must stop Tehran from obtaining an atomic weapon.

Obama told reporters during a visit to Israel that if elected, he would take "no options off the table" in dealing with the Iran issue and said tougher sanctions could be imposed.

"A nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat and the world must prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Obama told reporters after visiting the Israeli town of Sderot, which lies close to the border with the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.

"no options off the table." oh my he's already planning an attack on Iran....isn't that what the MSM always says about Pres. Bush when he says that. I can't wait to see the reaction.

Are you kidding, Although?

Are you kidding, Although? The reactions will be complete agreement with the new lord and savior...

I can picture it

I can picture it now:

"what a dynamic thinker."  He understands the severity of the situation"  "A true leader, never gives up their hand."

  Since obama has no

Since obama has no experience to sell, all he has to offer is his 'superior' judgement.  He cannot be wrong on a major issue or else he has nothing to offer.
