Add Monica Conyers's name to that list of Dems run afoul of the law whose party affiliation the MSM fails to mention. Conyers, the Detroit City Council President Pro Tem, a Democrat and an Obama supporter, has made unwelcome headlines before, from getting into an argument with an eight-grader to allegedly threatening to shoot an aide to the Detroit mayor. Now things have taken a turn for the worse. According to the Detroit News in an article today entitled Bribe probe ensnarls Conyers:
Federal investigators have electronic surveillance evidence that allegedly links Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Monica Conyers with receiving a payment or payments in connection with a city-approved sludge contract.
Ruh-roh. Conyers is the wife of John Conyers, the Dem Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee who continues to toy with the notion of seeking to impeach President Bush. So how did this morning's Today show report the story?

The only capital 'D' to be found in Today's report was the one in Detroit News.
Let's play "what if." What if the Republican elected-official wife of a prominent House Republican had been arrested in similar circumstances? Odds Today would have omitted the pair's party affiliation?

Seems the characters in Detroit seem to get away with everything they want...as long as they have a 'D' after their name it is A-Okay.

That young lady was calm and collected and said exactly what I was thinking when Mrs Conyers stated "Haven't you ever gotten frusturated and called someone a name..." and the girl responsed by saying "Yes, but we're kids..."
Mrs Conyers has shown the world just how nasty and condescending Democrats are, and has revealed that an 8th grader can outsmart them.

The Detroit City Council is seen by locals as a do-little body that is long on screed and name-calling but short on ideas and actions. The best thing the Feds could do would be cede Detroit to the local Democratic libs and let them run it as a separate territory. That way, we could all rest easy and let them fester in their own self-inflicted defeat. Just as with New Orleans, it'll take billions to ressurect Detroit to anything but a third-rate hellhole. At what point do you cut bait?

July 6, 2008 - 12:20 ET by Increase MatherI challenge any American to take a drive through Detroit, Michigan (in daylight, unsafe at night) and not be shocked. Much of the city looks like Berlin in 1945.
It's a burned out, bombed out, home to hundreds of thousands on welfare. City schools graduate 24% of its students, the lowest rate in the Western world.
I was born and raised there. In the fifties and until the mid-sixties it was a great place. Coleman Young and black racists ruined it.
The current Mayor is a known crook, the city council, a bunch of bufoons involved in another bribery scandal. Is the national media covering any of this?
Wonder why not? Because the political establishment of the city and the state of Michigan is foresquare behind Obama, and there's no way the MSM will embarrass him this year.
The media is a disgrace.

July 6, 2008 - 17:12 ET by geoff.galeI was born in Pontiac and spent my first twenty years in the Metro Detroit area, moved to Flint for twenty years, then moved back to the Metro area in the early nineties. Detroit was a great place when I was growing up. My friends and I would take the bus down to the Zoo in the summertime, or down to Olympia for a Saturday matinee game and our parents didn't freak out over our safety.
When I moved back, I was the senior HR executive for a company that was on 9 Mile, right next to the intersection of the Southfield Freeway and the Lodge. I quickly learned that when we brought in out-of-town candidates for executive and senior management positions, the drivers had to be told to take them the long way round from the airport - out 94 to 275, then up 275 to 696, across 696 to the Lodge, and then down the Lodge to 9 Mile. If they went up the Southfield, which was miles shorter and far more direct, the execs and their wives saw way too much of the city and the devastation. We lost a couple of good candidates to the their concerns about living anywhere near Detroit.
The political machine there keeps anything from changing for the better, and the people keep electing the machine because the machine owns the elections, the candidates and the bureaucracy. There's no way out and it's hard to see anything improving in Detroit unless the Muslims in the Western corridor take it over and impose Shari'a, and that's not really an improvement at all, just a change of masters.

I have often thought about doing a study on this and/or use it as a quick pedagogical device for students to illustrate media bias.
