Matthews: Voting for McCain Like Staying on Sinking Titanic

Vote Obama: it's a matter of life or death! That's essentially how Chris Matthews characterized the choice confronting voters this November. Matthews not only put voting for Obama in the category of something to be done to "save your life," he analogized voting for McCain to a decision to remain on the Titanic rather than man the lifeboats.

The Hardball host was a guest on today's Morning Joe.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I keep thinking about the problems we're in. You know, I'm a movie nut, and I'm thinking, when you really have to make a dramatic change to save your life, are you willing to make that decision? If you're riding a motorcycle, you gotta turn it around and put it on a horizontal and put it in a skid, or you're gonna die. You know that kind of stuff. You got to take it down. Sometimes in life you gotta take it down. You gotta do something really tough. In the Titanic, when it was sinking, nobody wanted to get in the boats. The reason those first boats went off half-empty or three-quarters empty is, who wanted to get in some lifeboat in the middle of the North Atlantic when it's freezing? Better to stay on the ship. But the ship was sinking!

When we vote in November, the voter's gonna have to choose: do I stay on that ship which is big and warm and the lights are still on, or do I get in that little boat called Barack? Now these are tricky questions. The boat might not sink. McCain might make it. But you gotta make these tricky decisions under duress.

In addition to the "McCain might make it" fig leaf, Matthews went on to give himself a bit more cover, saying it was a bold move for Americans to vote for Reagan in 1980.

But the underlying message was unmistakable: we all know how things turned out for the Titanic, and Matthews explicitly paints Obama as the lifeboat. Vote for him "to save your life. If not, "you're gonna die."

Good thing Chris isn't overdramatizing the choice ;-)

Another orgasm from Chrissy

Another orgasm from Chrissy Boy.

He should be referred to as Chris Matthews (D) MSNBC. Here's a excerpt from his MSNBC bio: "Prior to that, Matthews spent 15 years in politics and government, working in the White House for four years under President Jimmy Carter as a Presidential speechwriter and on the President’s Reorganization Project, in the U.S. Senate for five years on the staffs of Senator Frank Moss (Utah) and Senator Edmund Muskie (Maine), and as the top aide to Speaker of the House Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill, Jr. for six years. Lotta objectivity there....

Captain Hussein?

Right!? Instead let's jump on a ship without a qualified captain i.e. ship of liberal fools.

Why doesn't he just tweak

Why doesn't he just tweak the old MTV slogan.

Vote Obama or Die.

That's our Chrissy: the Master of Subtlety.

MB,

I was going to write exactly the same thing in a sarcastic way, but my keyboard automatically locks up whenever I type in some stupid, insane phrase like: "Chris Matthews is not biased..". OOps, there it goes again.....

C'mon Tweety, you can do

C'mon Tweety, you can do better than that: Obama is only a "little boat"?

I thought he was a gigantic, magnificent, glowing white yacht with all the amenities.

Actually the analogy was a

Actually the analogy was a little off as Obamessiah isnt actually on a boat but instead is surrounded by a blinding but comforting light and is actually standing on the water with his hand outstretched to save us.

And listening to Chris is like living on Bikini Atoll in the 1940's. .

Come to think about it I

Come to think about it I could say having a show on MSNBC is like being on the sinking titanic and be much more accurate.

Who cares what Chris

Who cares what Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann say, who is watching? The old adage applies. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a noise? Same principle with the B. Hussein Obama swooners.

Maybe it's not so, but

Maybe it's not so, but there's a perception that Matthews' impact is greater than the sum of his ratings. This article, for example, ranked him as the 2nd-most influential political pundit.

Mark, that list is nice,

Mark, that list is nice, but I don't see that they claim that Matthews of any of those guys, for that matter, actually have "influence." Have they convinced people to vote for one over another or changed any minds? Do they have any evidence of that?  They don't say.

It might as well be "most popular" or even " most ubiquitous." The fact that they say they are influential doesn't mean anything.

Dying?

I didn't know that we all were going to die. Thanks for the heads up Chris! Boy you sure are a lifesaver! Oh, I forgot, it's Chris Matthews, liberal talking head from MSNBC. How silly of me! MSNBC: Most Slanted News Broadcasting Company

Movie Nut?

Chris you are just a nut. Your sanity has nothing to do with movies. When I listen to Obama and his brain dead following I cannot help but to think of the Scarecrow in The Land of Oz. I just start whistling "If I only had a brain". Amazing how MSNBC has nothing to do with reporting news. The company is nothing but a liberal propaganda organization. What a waste of time. One would be better off watching a rock to see if it grows.

MSNBC?

MSNBC: Most Slanted News Broadcasting Company.  Good line.

Just thank the good lord...

...that nobody watches this ass-hat!  Osama Obama is a damn fool, and if the Americans vote him in, we deserve what we will get:  another four years of Carter...the looney bastard!

FLY ARMY!

Voting for Obama is like

Voting for Obama is like taking kool aid from Jim Jones. Both are telling you up front that drinking what they're offering will be detrimental to your life, yet so many are willing to drink it anyway.

Me,me,me,me,me...

Vote BHO - Save yourselves.

Typical liberal.

Matthews leg advocates here that people save themselves first, that everyone else (onboard the sinking ship) will probably die anyway. Isn't that another form of liberal appeasement, that indeed all hope is already lost?

Grace under pressure? Phooey!

Liberals never change.

Dire straights?

"Titantic" now. Great. Meaning what? What sort of "dire straights" are we in that outfits like MS-NBC, CNN and Time magazine and Prophet Obama keep alluding to? Brian Williams says the US is "broken". Letterman says the US has been destroyed during the past 8 years - as bad as 1968 and Vietnam.

Gee, I walk outside, go to the store, go out to eat, go to the game and I'm afraid I just don't see it.

High gas prices, yeah, but we're not waiting in lines around the block, either, to buy gas like we did in the 70s.

Massive unemployment/poverty?

Civil liberties "stripped"?

Runaway inflation?

Plunging stock market?

Losing a war? (No, we're actually winning two wars).

Recession? (Yeah, the networks have been telling us we're in one or about to be in one for 8 months now, based on *their* new definition of what a recession is.  But these are the same guys who made it "official" that Iraq was a Civil War (tm).

CNN and MS-NBC do nothing but recite the Obama campaign's talking points 24/7. It really wouldn't be that much of a stretch to put up an "Obama 08" banner in the background or as the "network" logo in the lower righthand corner. For all intents and purposes, they endorse him for president. Period. And, as they tell us, so does the rest of the world.

The bottom line is that, for the media, the grimmer the picture can be painted, the better the chances are that their candidate will be elected. Bad world getting worse -> George Bush's fault -> John McCain is a continuation of Bush -> Vote for Obama to save yourself.

Applause, Krendler.  I was

Applause, Krendler.  I was getting ready to let it rip with some nasty vituperative wisecracks about the beyond-peculiar behavior of Chris Matthews.  Your recitation of the facts was calming.  (I’ll put my broom back in the closet.)

Chrissy now...

To imply that I would willingly board a lifeboat with Chrissy and BO is a step too far.

Those two making out and the slurping and moon-calf eyes and all, and all the while you know the two of them are secretly planning to eat you as soon as you doze off, even though you may be the only one who knows anything about boats, survival at sea, has a compass, etc.

Wizard of Oz

Yes Chris head into the light for the force is with Obama, he will take care of you and all that follow him.  He is our savior and we must obey him and follow the light. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" <wizard of oz><satire off> ...

Overdramatizing? Chris?

Chris isn't overdramatizing... He is just making a decision under duress....  Let's try to figure out who is holding a gun to his head, forcing him to support Obama.

I used to like Chris, but not since he blatantly has been misusing his status as a "news reporter" (and I use that term for him very liberally).  Instead of reporting the news, he creates it, for his own interests.  Bad ethics.  Bad ethics.

And Matthews reminds me of

And Matthews reminds me of the kind of hysterical guy who would push women and children aside to get on a Titanic lifeboat first...

I can just see it!

I can just see it now!  slobbering the whole way!

It would be Chris and all the liberals pushing and shoving.

" For godsake, stop

" For godsake, stop slobbering, Mr. Matthews! We have enough water pouring into the hull already!"

Like the Seinfeld episode

Like the Seinfeld episode with George trampling the kids and an old lady with a walker to get out of the house when the burgers burned in the kitchen.

He said he was clearing the way to lead people out... ..ROFL!

The Cowboy Hat

Chris,

This is was a perfect picture of that jerk. Thanks.

And, by the way, did you see Chrissy put on the cowboy hat yesterday and say, " I look good in it."

Talk about a way to mess up your day, that was it!

As I've said before, the RNC should sue for illegal campaign contributions for infomercials like this one. They wouldn't win, but a fight to the Supreme Court would bring the bias issue before the American people. Slimes and molds doesn't do well in bright light.

More Money for Lawyers?

I hope you are joking.  We don't need to give lawyers any more money.

When???

I read lots of well thought out intelligent comments on here, apparently from intelligent and educated folks who take the time to do their research. What i don't see is anyone saying lets take action and do something about this bunch of "dimlibs". Just an opinion but i actually think an illegal campaign contribution lawsuit against the biased liberal media would scare them "dookieless" and force their hand. I think we need to attack the liberal media and the lib-O-tards in every  way possiable.

1. Nope, not joking. 2.

1. Nope, not joking.

2. So, you would not use a lawyer if that was what was required to fight a legal battle?  Good luck if you ever get arrested, or sued.  Or would you just give up the whole legal system as a battleground?

3. My sister is a lawyer, and so are a couple of good friends.  Just because a minority of lawyers give the profession a bad name is no reason to paint the entire bunch as corrupt.  In fact, they are generally pretty good people (and not as overpaid as you might think).

At last - a comeback line to these worshippers

McCain finally came up with a good line yesterday in saying an Obammy presidency would be a second term of Jimmy Carter.

Hopefully this line will be picked up and repeated endlessly by every conservative or McCain backer every time they get their face in front of a TV camera.

Mac must be reading this

"Barak Obama: Completing

"Barak Obama: Completing What Jimmy Carter Started"

Although, that would be in the sense they would have the same disaterous results. I think Obama's domestic policies would be much more liberal.

Fast or slow...we're still sinking!

Either way, we're going to sink the next 4 years.  Is there that much difference between Obama and McCain outside of foreign policy?  So you can drink your poison at once or in little sips....we're still in big trouble no matter who wins.

And don't start preaching to me about Supreme Court justices.  McCain had the opportunity to help Bush appoint conservative judges and ended up blocking them with the Gang of Losers.  Do you think he'll really try to put a conservative Supreme nomination through the left wing loonies on the Judiciary Committee?

The way I see it...Obama is Carter and McCain is Obama Lite!

Jeff Lebowski

It's all in the baby count

The biggest difference between the two is that Obammy brings with him a couple of million dead babys, a rap room and a hate-filled first lady in the white house. Take your pick.

Jeff Lebowski doesn't like

I don't like rap or Abba!

Jeff Lebowski

I really think there's a

I really think there's a good chance that McCain will stick to his pledge to appoint conservative judges to the court and I don't think he'll sign budget busting bills as readily as Obama. There's a chance with McCain. However, if Obama gets in, and with a overwhelmingly Democrat congress, pure and unadulterated liberalism will certainly prevail - to an extent we have never witnessed or from which we can ever recover.

McCain can appoint...

...as many conservative judges as he wants, but with a Senate that is going to be Dem controlled by at least 55-45, none of them will be confirmed and probably won't even  get out of committee.

At that point McCain is faced with the predicament of standing his ground and leaving a seat empty (thus appearing to be hostage of the hard Right) or giving in and nominating a typical "moderate" to the bench and thus winning the accolades of MSM and Dems all.

Given his past history I think we all know what McCain would do.

Prester... You beat me to

Prester...

You beat me to it, I just saw all of this, there is now way a conservative judge is even going to get out of the Judiciary committee...period.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Wilson

Well, then. Obama won't have

Well, then. Obama won't have any problem at all, because he will appoint judges who would be probably be right at home on the Proletariate Court for the Destruction of the Capitalist Suckers of the Peoples Blood in the Soviet Union. I'm sorry, despite the fact that I disagree with McCain on a number of issues, I can't buy the notion that a McCain presidency would be the same as Obama's.

Cap Repus... That train

Cap Repus...

That train of thought has been out there for months, and people have made the same claims. I would think that it shows how slow McCain is to pick up on it.

"Abstain from McCain"

Be careful ...

... probably half of the voting public remembers Carter as anything but a Habitat for Humanity, Bush Bashing Nobel Prize winner, though. Comparing an Obama presidency to a continuation of Carter could be seen as a positive for a sizeable portion of the brain-dead ... I mean, historically challenged voters out here.

Chris Matthews

I do believe it was Matthews who wrote the infamous "Malaise" speech for Carter. Knowing this helps you understand Matthews' world view, which then justifies you to ignore just about anything he says.

Alternative analysis of Mr. Matthews

After some head scratching of my own, I have been getting a bit of a different vibe listening to Chris.

I thnk he is actually confused and in turmoil intellectualy.

I think many of the things he says are just thoughts that bubble up to the suface and not the expression of some deep seated belief or understnading.

It is almost as if he is per petually in this "lets run it up the flag poll and see if if any one slautes it" mode  or the "brain storming" mode where you throw out a series of ideas without pre-judging or analysis in the hope that by avoiding your own internal censorship some unique and new discovery will happen.

I have the feeling that if s guest were to immediatly shoot out of the water one of Chris's  assertions instead of arguing passionately for it he might just as likely say "hmm, maybe your right"  And then change the subject.

I think internally he is torn between a dislike for the conservative movement and a dislike for the Olberman/Moveon.org crowd.

He wants to beleive the Obama myth but in the back of his mind he suspects its a false hope and that in the end Obama will dissappoint.

I was sort of with you,

I was sort of with you, until you got to the last line.

Matthews is a falling-down-drunk-on-the-Kool-Aid believer.

Scary Media Vision

Picture it,  a multitude of people covering the countryside near a huge lake. The people are fainting and cheering eyes glued toward the water in anticapation. There are TV camera's and  reporters everywhere. The reporters are busy describing the scene in excited intense voices. Some reporters have thrills running up their legs and are giggling uncontrollable with joy. "Here he comes" someone shouts and the throngs of people go crazy. In the distance you see Obama approaching he is dressed in robes walking towards them on top of the water.!

What the crowds can't see is  underneath the water there are scuba divers with media logos on there suits holding Obama up so it looks like he is walking on water. But the people CAN NOT SEE THIS, they can only see what the media has prepared for them to see.

It is scary that such a large percentage of the media have an obvious agenda to make Obama the president. There is not enough scrutiny of this man.

I don't like McCain very much. So the only thing that  can bring some joy is if McCain wins we get to watch the Obama worshiping media mourn.

allamerican...good

allamerican...good analogy...the media props up obama.

Voting for Obama is like

Voting for Obama is like taxing the public to build another, identical copy of the Titanic to replace the one that sank, and then appointing the same management to operate it as operated the previous one.
