This is the "there is no right or wrong answer" school of math espoused by Lefties. The same math that has 400,000 women a year dying worldwide from "unsafe abortion" -- 400,000 of them in Brazil alone!
Hey whoa just a minute!! Slow down, think before you speak. Details? Let's not add details that may show obvious conflict with the agenda. No voluntary information disclosure. And if coerced, then before speaking....calculate, calculate, calculate. :-)
Due to the extend democratic primary season, campaign rhetoric has heated up enough to cause a massive increase in tornados, especially in Fly Over country. Al Gore does not believe this should be attributed to the global warming effect of Mrs. Clinton's and Mr. Obama‘s enormous carbon footprints, which has undergone a dramatic increase in the last 5 months.
Bingo! And even knowing the math isn't there for her, Hillary continues to build up a carbon footprint. Completely unnecessary travel. Not only causing tornadoes, but creating evil windfall profits for oil companies.
...and yet no one ever mentions when there is a hint of severe weather 10-20 groups of storm chasers go after those things, almost every touchdown has been reported or recorded unlike the old days. Also sometimes one tornado can be reported more than once by different people. Nah global warming is too logical of an arguement.
Really this is a continuation of the wintertime pattern of colder air steadily coming in from Canada interacting with the warmer air. Heck, I had a bad feeling about this year after watching the jet stream all winter long...it was a huge red flag for tornado development this year. Again NOT a result of global warming.

As you can see from the graph by any logic there was only 204 tornadoes in 2006, 102 in 2005, 51 in 2004, 25 in 2003. 13 in 2002 only 7 in 2001, 4 in 2000, 3 in 2001, there was only 2 tornado in 2000 and the first ever tornado in the earth 4.5 billion year history was in 1999.

As you can see with the doubling in 2009 there will be 1400, in 2010 there will be 2800, in 2011 there will be 5600 and when Kyoto is set to expire in 2012 there will be 11200 or about 90 tornado every day
Remember "The Year of the Shark?" Which got blown out of the water by a man made event, one that could have been avoided had we been paying attention to real problems within our control like ... oh ... terrorist threats.

Overlooking Bill Weir's less than desirable math skills, after trying to reconcile last years record breaking cold in much of the world which has extended into this spring coupled with falling sea temperatures, didn't the same demedia just tell us that global warming is taking a ten year hiatus?
You know, this is desperation time for the algore global warming machine and crew...
We had a record breaking winter in the NW in a lot of areas with snow depth and temperatures and seldom a word mentioned...intentionally...now they are attempting this B.S. as spring is here and summer approaches.

Now that German GW scientists predict that GW will be on hold for another 10 years (in addition to the 7 years its already been on hold), due to a shift in ocean currents, the politics of global warming could get very interesting.
One might ask:
1. If they've discovered one new climate factor that blows the alleged impact of CO2 out of the water (so to speak), then what other unknown factors will come to the fore in the future? And...
2. How are AGW advocates going to pass draconian carbon credit laws, doubling energy costs, while temperatures remain flat or decrease over the next ten years?

Remember the year that Florida had 8 or so hurricanes and the "experts" claimed that there would be more the next year? There was only one small one the next year and hardly any since. Global warming my butt!
But if it makes Sheryl Crow use one square of toilet paper or Ed Begley ride a bike to work or any other Hollywood scum any discomfort....I'm all for that!
IF we had the coldest April in decades it stands to reason the big change to warm spring will cause more turbulent possibilities...storms are due to temperature differences or at least the severity increases when you have, say, a 20 degree drop versus a 10... Did I mention I caught a bass Friday that bit because of Global Warming? Guess not.

Is it so hard to do a little research before putting a story on the air? How can you claim to be in the news business when you appear to be making stuff up whole cloth?
Why didn't they show a graphic on the number from Jan-May in, oh I don't know, 10-20 years or so if they want to at least look like there's an ounce of credibility to it. (I aint saying it would be, just that it would at least appear more relevant for their agenda).
Maybe they didn't do that because the numbers didn't work to promote the agenda. Yea, uh, just maybe.

What they don't show you is that abortion mortality had been dropping like a stone for the entire 20th century. You cold pick virtually any event of the first 80% of the 20th century and say that abortion mortality was lower afterward than before. The moon landing. The Beatles. The Great Depression. There is a website that has stats: tornadoes@tornadoproject.com. If the ABC person has looked here he knows he is not close to any global warming correlation and is in fact way-off base. So easy to find information if you want to.
A: Accuse someone or something else for your problem.
B: Bullsh!t your way to sensationalism.
C: Count statistics using a very small reference point.
This is the problem I have with such bad reporting. It doesn't take into account that we now count every single tornado known to radar. The old practice was to report only the tornadoes that had disastrous consequences on people.

More than double the number for all of last year? How did they figure that? There were 1305 tornados from Jan. 2007 to Dec. 2007. I think someone didn't do their homework.
(on edit: Where DID they get their figures? I just added up the totals (as per the link I provided) from Jan. 2007 through May. 2007 and I got 799 tornados.)
From now on, I am going make that remark to every single anthroprogenic global warming alarmist. Prove it. When they say all the data shows this, this, or this. I will say that's a fine theory. Prove it.

Even if the Neomarxists could lay out the idea that global warming is man's fault based on a number of empirical facts and coincidences, say the fossil record, ice core samples, agricultural records, industrial ouput data, etc. - which they can't - they might still be able to do some inductive reasoning based on principles well established in physics and chemistry. But they can't even do this either.
Am I supposed to take as granted that a molecule, CO2, at about 383 parts per million in the Earth's atmosphere, traps (as opposed to just traps and reflects) enough solar radiation that we are all going to melt like the witch in the Wizard of Oz? Am I supposed to overlook the fact that 95% of the global warming effect in the atmosphere is caused by water vapor? Am I supposed to neglect the fact that global temperatures are hottest at the surface and not in the atmosphere?
One of the best reasons to doubt the greenhouse effect is by comparing Earth to Venus. Now, everyone has been told since they were knee-high to a grasshopper that Venus's high temperatures are due to a "runaway Greenhouse Effect." Well, few of us are told that Venus' atmosphere exerts about 93 times ("atmospheres") more pressure than the earth's. Without going into details, very little of Venus' temperature is due to the Greenhouse Effect, it is due to having a relatively massive atmosphere in general.
The "scientists" in the shil for anthropogenic global warming are going to use some pseudoscientific jargon to refute such simple counterfactuals to their "theory." But I have enough scientific know-how to detect that the manner of exposition of the "global warming consensus" raises my BS detectors. It rings to me like the Catholic Church's attempt to suppress Copernicus' findings that the earth revolves around the sun and not vice versa.

I've been driving for many, many years and only had 3-4 flat tires in the first 40 yrs, however, since 2004 I've had that many. Is this another classic example of Global Warming or what?
Or just plain stupid. This clearly demonstrates that they are more interested in pressing the leftist agenda than facts. And these are the same folks who like to talk about "scientific consensus". They wouldn't know a scientific fact if it slapped them upside the head.

Whoops. I read quickly and thought this was 2007 over 2006. It's actually the first 5 months of 2008 versus all of 2007.
Yes, it does seem like there have been a lot of tornadoes so far this year. As others have pointed out, however, tornadoes are not caused by global warming - so that's two easily checkable errors committed by a national news organization.

What they don't show you is that abortion mortality had been dropping like a stone for the entire 20th century. You cold pick virtually any event of the first 80% of the 20th century and say that abortion mortality was lower afterward than before. The moon landing. The Beatles. The Great Depression. I Love Lucy. Bakelite telephones.

There is a website that has stats: tornadoes@tornadoproject.com. If the ABC person has looked here he knows he is not close to any global warming correlation and is in fact way-off base. So easy to find information if you want to.

This is the problem I have with such bad reporting. It doesn't take into account that we now count every single tornado known to radar. The old practice was to report only the tornadoes that had disastrous consequences on people.

More than double the number for all of last year? How did they figure that? There were 1305 tornados from Jan. 2007 to Dec. 2007. I think someone didn't do their homework.

(on edit: Where DID they get their figures? I just added up the totals (as per the link I provided) from Jan. 2007 through May. 2007 and I got 799 tornados.)

Empiricism vs. Theory
May 12, 2008 - 04:22 ET by reasonsjesterEven if the Neomarxists could lay out the idea that global warming is man's fault based on a number of empirical facts and coincidences, say the fossil record, ice core samples, agricultural records, industrial ouput data, etc. - which they can't - they might still be able to do some inductive reasoning based on principles well established in physics and chemistry. But they can't even do this either.
Am I supposed to take as granted that a molecule, CO2, at about 383 parts per million in the Earth's atmosphere, traps (as opposed to just traps and reflects) enough solar radiation that we are all going to melt like the witch in the Wizard of Oz? Am I supposed to overlook the fact that 95% of the global warming effect in the atmosphere is caused by water vapor? Am I supposed to neglect the fact that global temperatures are hottest at the surface and not in the atmosphere?
One of the best reasons to doubt the greenhouse effect is by comparing Earth to Venus. Now, everyone has been told since they were knee-high to a grasshopper that Venus's high temperatures are due to a "runaway Greenhouse Effect." Well, few of us are told that Venus' atmosphere exerts about 93 times ("atmospheres") more pressure than the earth's. Without going into details, very little of Venus' temperature is due to the Greenhouse Effect, it is due to having a relatively massive atmosphere in general.
The "scientists" in the shil for anthropogenic global warming are going to use some pseudoscientific jargon to refute such simple counterfactuals to their "theory." But I have enough scientific know-how to detect that the manner of exposition of the "global warming consensus" raises my BS detectors. It rings to me like the Catholic Church's attempt to suppress Copernicus' findings that the earth revolves around the sun and not vice versa.

Yes, it does seem like there have been a lot of tornadoes so far this year. As others have pointed out, however, tornadoes are not caused by global warming - so that's two easily checkable errors committed by a national news organization.
