CHRIS MATTHEWS: Do you think the Democrats have a shot at carrying Florida on the best of conditions this year? The Hardball host closed with some downy-soft schmoozing.
ED RENDELL: Oh, absolutely, absolutely. Particularly when the issues about Social Security are fashioned. I think this is going to be the best chance we've had to carry Florida since 2000.
MATTHEWS: I think Hillary has a better chance than Barack in Florida.
RENDELL: No question.
MATTHEWS: But I think Barack has a better chance if you're his running mate. Would you be available, Governor, to be a running-mate with Barack Obama--Story Continues Below Ad ↓
RENDELL: No --
MATTHEWS: or Hillary Clinton?
RENDELL: I said I'm going to finish my term here. And who in their right mind would want someone like me to be their running mate? You know, if they came up and said what do you think about the presidential candidate's environmental policy that he released today, I'd say "fair, you know, fair." You know, I have this, this problem of telling the truth all the time.
MATTHEWS: Well, I think you'd carry Pennsylvania and save it for the Democrats, because it is a little bit precarious with John McCain running. And I think you'd bring back in, you'd bring Ohio in. And I think you'd make Hillary, you'd make Barack competitive in Florida. I think you'd be a great running-mate. I understand the situation at home and your responsibilities to the Commonwealth. Anyway, I'm here to build you up [interesting conception of his role], because I do think you're the best pol around. Hey, thank you Governor, you're running a hell of a campaign for Hillary Clinton. If she doesn't win by 10 points, it's not your fault.I'll let others judge whether Rendell suffers from a truthfulness surfeit. One thing is obvious: he's not hampered by humbleness.

Rendell tell's the truth
March 31, 2008 - 18:49 ET by BlazerRendell tell's the truth all of the time, but he's a Clinton supporter. I'm at a loss.
I was gonna' go with something about the "duality of man", but I dont' think that quite hit's it.

VP?
March 31, 2008 - 18:48 ET by DanoYou have to be kidding. I live in Pennsylvania..........this guy is a crook. He has awarded $1,000,000,000.00, yes ladies and gentlemen, thats 1 billion dollars in "no bid" contracts to his friends and cronies.......and has got away with it other than the main stream newspapers putting a story on page 67. The mafia has nothing on our state government!
Amen to that, Dano. As a
March 31, 2008 - 21:29 ET by CJK51Amen to that, Dano. As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I've had to laugh at the people who swept Rendell in for a second term exclaiming surprise when he announced tax hikes. Yes, color me stunned that a liberal like Rendell would raise taxes.
And where are all the big property tax breaks that the highly vaunted slot machines were supposed to bring? I live in a dump of a city, on a postage stamp-sized lot (for only two more weeks) and pay outrageous taxes. I thought the one-armed bandits were going to fix it.
You raised another great point about all his contracts. Rendell instituted the ITQ (Invitation to Qualify) system in Pennsylvania around 2003 to allegedly balance the playing field. Good luck doing any business with the Keystone State if you don't already have a contact inside.
If only Rendell would spend more time practicing his high speed driving!

Rendell is not a hind tit
March 31, 2008 - 19:31 ET by pepsiman127Rendell is not a hind tit kind of guy he's a smooth calculating politition who doesn't want either of those two to win anymore than we do. He makes a semi-sincere effort in 2008 and finishes his governorship and finds himself the easy favorite in 2012. Sadly people will purchase his snake oil and he will cruise to an easy win.

March 31, 2008 - 22:02 ET by Cureboy675Actually, I was amazed at how close Chris Matthews' lips were to this guy's behind. Especially considering the man-crush he has on Obama.
The weight of Fast Eddie's Endorsement
March 31, 2008 - 22:24 ET by Philly Pete 07"Fast Eddie", our governor's biggest asset is his lawyer trained ability to think and speak on his feet and not necessarily in that order. He can be extremely eloquent when speaking and not once glance at a note or teleprompter. However, he is an unabashedly liberal democrat. It is no surprise that Chris Matthews finds him endearing. Over the years I've noticed that the similarities between Rendell and "Bubba" Clinton are striking. Fast Eddie's morals are about as high as the former President's. Eddie fashions himself as an avid sports fan and harbors a fantasy of becoming a sportscaster one day. He'll no doubt be in the image of a Keith O. Fast Eddie already has a post game gig on a local Comcast station after Eagles games. Of course that is when he is not being disturbed by issues concerning the Commonwealth's business. Such as listening to a local tv news personality (a sex kitten) trying to keep from being fired for assaulting a police officer in a different state. It is a hard job but someone has got to do it. Rendell's political endorsement means nothing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
what??
April 1, 2008 - 00:06 ET by candanceAre you kidding me? I actually did a double take when I read this.
Ed Rendell is too honest for the White House.
What next, McCain is too young for the White House?
It's comedy central

April 1, 2008 - 00:17 ET by fitzfongFast Eddie Rendell is a fatter, older (older-looking, at least) John Edwards with less hair. In other words, he's a sleazy, smarmy, contemptible shyster weasel. Totally worthy of the Clinton Campaign. The mere suggestion that this dirtbag is "too honest for the White House" is gut-bustingly hilarious. Thanks, Fast Eddie, you've given me hours of laughter.
