There's a new entry next to Mika Brzezinski's name in the annals of MSM elitism. The Morning Joe panelist today lamented blue-collar whites who "can't hear" the message Barack Obama propounded. Poor benighted souls. Joe Scarborough called Mika on it.
Brzezinski's comment came in response to Scarborough's exposition of why he didn't think Obama's speech would work with many blue-collar whites.
View video here.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: He did this long, long, long list, again, all to explain away Reverend Wright's dislike of America. And as he got to the end of that list, all I was thinking, Mika, was, I was thinking two things, I was thinking, true, all of this, true. I can't understand that experience, but true, but I also thought this, and I hope that people will listen with an open heart when I say this next thing, all right? Because this is not how I feel. I associate myself with all comments Barack Obama made yesterday, but it's easy for me to, okay? But it's not so easy, again, for the blue-collar guy working in Youngstown, Ohio, whose father couldn't afford to send him college, so he went straight to the assembly line, and this is his life. He went straight to the assembly line.
BRZEZINSKI: Okay.
SCARBOROUGH: I'm just telling you this voter who swings elections every four years, this voter, this is a guy that voted for Nixon, he voted for Jimmy Carter, he voted for Ronald Reagan twice, he voted for Bill Clinton twice, he voted for George W. Bush twice. This guy does not want to hear an African-American who went to Harvard law school, whose wife went to Princeton, he does not want to hear about 350 years of black resentment from this guy. I'm not that guy. I understand. I want to hear that from Barack Obama, but please we have to understand, and if I can say this, this is why the media elite misses so much in elections. They just go, oh, they're racists. No, these people are not racist.
BRZEZINSKI: They have their own experience.
SCARBOROUGH: They have resentment and they have their own experience, just like Reverend Wright has his own experience, and these are the people who may have been offended by what they heard yesterday from Barack Obama.
BRZEZINSKI: OK, but did you hear what Governor Huckabee [who said he would cut Rev. Wright slack] just said? He, even he --
SCARBOROUGH: Nobody's listening to Governor Huckabee regarding Barack Obama in the Democratic primary
BRZEZINSKI: But my point is, he has an open mind to those who have been discriminated against for years and years and years and that perhaps they have an experience that's worth recognizing.
SCARBOROUGH: That's Governor Huckabee's experience.
BRZEZINSKI: Nobody is more uniquely qualified to talk about the human experience black, white, from both sides than Barack Obama.
SCARBOROUGH: I agree with you.
BRZEZINSKI: And he went out there on a limb, and you're right. There may be people, like the ones who you described --
SCARBOROUGH: Not racist, not racists.
BRZEZINSKI: I'm not saying racist.
SCARBOROUGH: People that have resentments.
BRZEZINSKI: Who can't hear it. But you cannot deny --
SCARBOROUGH: No, no, no, no. Wait a second. Wait a second. Hold on. When you say they can't hear it, you make it sound like they're walking around with scales on their eyes or something like that.
BRZEZINSKI [deep sigh]: No-o-o-o.
SCARBOROUGH: It's not that they can't hear it, they can hear it, but what they're saying is, why am I listening to this Harvard lawyer and his Princeton wife talk about how horrible their life is when I'm working here two jobs?

March 19, 2008 - 15:50 ET by marpelMy great great Grandfather was a plantation owner in So. Carolina. I have a copy of his Will, and in it he bequeaths particular slaves to each of his offspring. The thought that someone this narrow minded and unenlightened makes more money than I do just raises my blood pressure to stroke levels.

BTW, I'm looking for a transcript of H&C from last night. Kirsten Powers actually called Hannity racist for criticizing Obama and Wright. American Idiots???
March 19, 2008 - 14:26 ET by connorinI saw this a couple times last night and this morning...the people discussing this speech saying that the "average" or "middle-class" American (apparently your run of the mill white guy) is not going to understand the "high-mindedness" or the meaning of this speech and what a special person Obama is for having given this great gift to us.
A regular Joe has no hope of grasping the greatness and sight of this man whowe should just hand the presidency to right now without need of some messy election...so that he may lead us to the promised land.
This of course is not exactly how they stated it exactly, but it was the view being expressed. Average people who may only have high school or community college education may not be able to grasp the full meaning of his speech. This also implies that anyone who would think other than they do about how incomparable the speech was must be a racist or idiot or both. It also has the people discussing it on TV walking on eggshells...notice how many times Joe says "not racist", or when he says "I'm not that guy".
It is the rare occurrence that you have someone note (as Jeff Greenfield did-see prior entries on here today) that Obama didn't accomplish what he needs too in the eyes of the people. I guess most of the MSM is so busy swooning they don't understand anyother point of view on this.

March 19, 2008 - 15:17 ET by CGattonBecause they wanted to do so, since they understood what going back would really involve - and mean to them personally. Most black slaves had been here long enough, or were born here and had either forgotten, or had no concept of what would be waiting for them if they had to return to their ancestral homelands. Additionally, the others you mentioned never were in the middle of/cause of a war, that provided a sense of entitlement.

Mika needs to disclose her Obama Connection
March 19, 2008 - 20:22 ET by cmarieIt makes me sick every time I hear Mika go to bat for Obama. If you notice, she never, ever mentions that her father Ziggy Brzezenski is one of Obama's major campaign advisors. Where is the full disclosure on the part of msnbc? This network, along with CNN, is so utterly biased for obama it is disgusting. From the abhorrent, sexually derogatory comments Matthews, Shuster, Russert and Carlson have made about Clinton, to Mika's oooohing and aweing over BO and his hate-America racist wife, this network is reprehensible.
I simply can't stand listening to how stupid Mika is...In fact, I never really liked Joe before, but I feel sorry for him now having to sit next to such a DITZ. She's always feeling sorry for Obama or Michelle because they grew up black. Excuse me....there is absolutely no reason to feel sorry for Michelle Obama who went to prestigious schools, makes boat loads of money, lives in a 1.9 million dollar mansion and is married to a U.S. senator. What BS is this couple trying to shove down people's throats.
Furthermore, Obama grew up half WHITE and half black. After he left Indonesia studying islam with his stepfather, he grew up in Hawaii with his white mother's family, going to good schools and then attending GREAT universities. Obama has no clue what the real black experience is. He is simply an insult to MLK and his great legacy.
I don't know about you, but the very first time we hear Obama mention a peep about the white side of his family, he throws his grandmother under the bus equating her to his vile, racist, hate-america pastor. This will not sit well with voters. This woman helped raise Obama. And while the inappropriate comments made by his grandmother should not be excused, they don't compare in the slightest to a hate-monger like Wright who has devoted his whole life to fueling hate between the races. Obama didn't have a choice who his family is...he is able to choose his pastor. Obama's choice in Wright shows clearly what his real viewpoints and agenda are.
