Jesse Jackson: Obama's Grandmother?

By Mark Finkelstein | March 18, 2008 - 16:56 ET

Playing the moral equivalence card in his speech this morning, Barack Obama said this:

I can no more disown [Rev. Wright] than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Which sent me scurrying to Google for the quote I was sure I remembered. And sure enough:

There is nothing more painful to me ... than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved. -- the Reverend Jesse Jackson, as quoted in US News, 3/10/96

Have Obama's grandmother and Jesse Jackson ever been seen in the same room? MSM, get on this: I smell a Pulitzer!

Jackson and Barack's Granny:

Jackson and Barack's Granny: SEPARATED AT BIRTH....

»→ Thanks, Mark

And it's a sure bet both Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama both winced when they heard of the two White coed murders in the Southeast a couple of weeks ago.  That sick feeling in their guts proved correct as the suspects were captured.

If this kind of sh#t is standard fare from Black pulpits (as indicated by Eleanor Clift, Rev. Butts, and Donna Brazile) we shouldn't be surprized Obama tries to rationalize his right to hate.

Just like the racist stuff from

Just like the racist stuff from Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, Parsley. I grew up in the south-raised in the Southern Baptist church..I heard equal vitriol and racist comments. Was warned not to befriend those 'over the tracks' but saw the very same people raise thousands of dollars to bring a Black family to the city--BECAUSE THEY HAD FOUR VERY WONDERFUL FOOTBALL PLAYER SONS... Six years later after 2 State championships-- they called my father because I, a white woman, was having a cup of coffee with one of those young men that took the town to State. Dad was mayor at the time and came storming into the little coffee shop - stopped in his tracks and stood to re-introduce this man to a very racist and forgetful patronage.
Another short story from last summer--I was gifted with a much needed girls weekend in the mountains. THis conference was transportation oriented and we had a diverse group of professionals from across the World. There were four of us. Two white and two black--all with businesses and advanced degrees. We decided to make a side trip to a local rodeo because it was a new experience for two of the women. It was a clear night and the crowd was robust, familiar and mostly white. After about 40 minutes, I noted that one of my friends was increasingly agitated. She wanted to leave and pushed to do so urgently. I never realized that she, as a black woman, was more than a little upset about being in that crowd. Later my other black friend told me that it was a racist thing with her..BUT SURPRISE --SHE was married to a White man! Those are just two of the things I have seen in my 60+years as a female professional in these United States. It is there on both sides and it is time we deal with it. OBAMA _AS THE STATESMAN_ CAN begin again to help us through as did Bobby Kennedy and MLK. Obama is a leap of faith and I do wonder if we are up to the challenge. Her was honest- forthright-and will be nitpiked to death by the pundits who need to perpetuate this for ratings. SHAME ON US....
We must not let the bigots continues their to control us.

Sorry for your experience.

I'm only 55 years old, so I guess I missed all the hatred you're talking about spewing from White pulpits.

I never heard it, and I would have walked out if I had.  I left a Church over disagreement of scriptural interpretation, racist bigotry would have been a no brainer.

You're right.  The bigots must not control us.  And that is exactly why we should not tolerate men like Jeremiah Wright, David Duke, or those who play the fool for them.

Good Catch!  I am still

Good Catch!

I am still afraid of going into predominantly black neighborhoods, given the statistics of black on black and black on white crime.  For some reason, I never have a fear going into Chinatown.

Ooooo! Nice "Ace Up The Sleeve" there!!

Fear

The larger question is why someone, no matter what color, has to fear walking in minority neirgborhoods. According to Barack and company, it's whitey's fault. After all, he said as much in his "speech" this morning. He blamed whitey for racism, poor blacks, ghettos, poor education, black men in prison, etc. Never did he say that it was the fault of fatherless families, drugs, or crime of all sorts. Never did he apologize for his "minister" saying, "God Damn America". Never did he admit to the great and wonderful accomplishments of people of all colors in America. Yes, we must "fear" walking in certain neighborhoods. But until people like Barack, Michelle and the ones who have brainwashed them admit the truth, and stop blaming "whitey", the fear will grow, not lessen.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Bigot- you did not even

Bigot- you did not even listen to the speech but spewed what is fodder for the extremist fundamental issue facing this country.

Speaking of Bigots and Extremists....

Have you even listened to what Obama's spiritual guide and mentor has been saying?

Mark...this find of yours

Mark...this find of yours is really priceless.

I could not believe he used his grandmother like he did in not disavowing Wright and his hate preach.

I just heard the all giddy Mathews saying Obama's speech should be read by all first graders ...that it is like The Great Gatsby and Huckleberry Finn...on and on with his excitement over what I considered a pathetic racist filled excuse of a pathetic speech.

Unbelievable what the talking heads are saying...including Smerconish who is/was on Matthews panel.

These people are delusional...I was angry listening to them today although I knew good and well they would act exactly as they did, but they are completely out of this world with what the man did say.

Talk about La-La-Land.

Grandma's Cookies

How do you think Obama's grandmother feels about being thrown under the bus? He is starting to act like a Clinton, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO ATTAIN POWER"

Wonder what that phone call will be like...

Obama "Hello, grandma...how are you..."

You took the words.....

right out of my mouth.

If he's going to dump the grandmother that loved him and helped raise him overboard, why would anyone trust him.

Hi, bt -

Matthews never seems to disappoint ...

Do you, as I do, feel as though you are in a scene from the movie "Mars Attacks" with these MSM Obama Pollyannas ?

ROFL to both of your posts...

Thank Goodness for NBs and posters here or I would go nuttier than I am...

I am tellin' ya' I have never ever heard such outrageous, delusional BS in my life from these talking heads and Obama supporters like I have today...

Sometimes when you just know you have seen and heard it all...they never cease to amaze me.

Insanity at it's best.

BT

Maybe it should be read to first graders---that's about the level of thinking it takes to understand it. "Whitey bad, whitey mean" "Poor blacks can do no wrong"

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

You got that right

You got that right isia...

One thing about it the so-called leftist sure as heck are intentionally not understanding the racist filled speech...still defending Wright, and covering his arse is all he did...

If this was reversed in any way this speech would of been sliced diced by the msm 24/7 and the candidate would be done.

BTW...so is Obama, that is the good thing about it all...McCain had better fight back in time with all of this...that is all I can say. The right wing talk show hosts aren't going to carry his water for him either forever...The msm isn't going to do it for him, and Obama is who the msm and others politically want to be their candidate, it is as plain as day for all to see today.

Fear

I was in high school in the early 70s in the Midwest.  There would be race riots in some of the high schools.  The black kids ganged up and fought as a group.  The white kids did not fight as a group and ran scared.

Nice catch, Mark.

I remember that statement by the Sloganmaster.

I also couldn't help but notice Obama attributing those racial slurs and remarks to a woman unable to defend herself.

How convenient.

Theme for Election '08: I want my mommy!

Reminded me of an old funny, Mark.

I had to scramble to find it. But first. That is some statement from Jessie - perhaps one of the strongest statements he ever made. OK, that hurt.

Now:

Jessie and Bill

Jessie Jackson has added former Chicago democratic congressman Mel Reynolds to the Rainbow/PUSH coalition's payroll.

Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree.

Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half-year Federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud & lies to the Federal Commission. He is more notorious, however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer.

This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate, won clemency from a President who had sex with a subordinate, then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate.

His new job? Youth counselor. Is this a great country or what?

Mark

Mark,

In fairness to Obama and Jackson, I've had black friends, teachers, co-workers, and employees make virtually the same statement. This is a pretty common theme. ns

Cringing Democrats

See! Obama is bringing people together already. His cringe-inducing grandma and Jesse, both fleeing from black men in the streets.

Predictable Response

Senator Obama gave a great speech today---one of the best by an American public figure in recent decades. Predictably, people at NewsBusters fail to comprehend that and look for something---anything---to snipe at.

You don't find anything

You don't find anything ironic/funny/significant about the fact that Jesse Jackson said something almost identical to the quote from Obama's white grandmother?

»→ Agrarian

You forget, we've seen Robert Byrd.  Obama's just an African American version of Byrd.

Both became members of hate groups to further political careers.  One wears white sheets, the other black sheets.

The message is the same.

ROFLMAO!

JJ has Cause to be Alarmed

With the Stats on who is killing Black men, which is overwhelmingly other black men, Jesse has cause to be alarmed.

Same with Single Women near College Campus's, as we have seen recently.  And if it was Guys from India Killing coeds, they would be accumulating the Same Reputation for murders of others.

He gave half a great speech.

He excused racism, and equated 20 years of hate-filled sermons with momentary insensitivity. His grandmother didn't get up in front of a crowd and use racism to incite them to give her money, but Wright did, every week for 20 years.

And Obama never said a word until it became clear that Americans really don't like that kind of talk, not one little bit.

He's an Ivy League Al Sharpton.

That was the first half of the speech. The second half, in which he demanded more money for all his party's failed solutions, highlights what a tired, played-out politician he is.

I thought that hypnotism

I thought that hypnotism only works on the highly-intelligent. Hmm. I guess there are exceptions for every rule.

The loons are welcoming us barack!

No task too daunting for the "magic negro" Shrubbo.  Now if you will excuse me, I'm feeling a little faint.....must be a flashbarack.

Just another drive-by poster!

"Abstain from McCain"

I especially liked the

I especially liked the parts where he equated his grandmother's alleged comments to those of his racist, hate spewing pastor of the last 20 years and when he pretty much contradicted everything he has been telling us for the past week or so. And the icing on the cake was when he slipped in a little Marxist ideology here and there.

A truly magical speech indeed.....

MetroCentralist, you're not

MetroCentralist, you're not swaying anyone here. Those of the Marxist persuasion can and have given "great speeches" to us, the un-enlightened. This speech was not even close to the classics. His arms just hang there; he needs to use a little more body motion like Fidel, Kruschev, Mussolini, Franken etc....

Grandmother?

Nah, that's just ol' Uncle Jesse. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't have an old cross-dressin' uncle in the family?

The halo fell off

Looks like Obama is just another race hustler. sigh ...

Wasn't it yesterday he said he never heard the offending remarks and then today ... he does a backflip and hopes no one notices the lies.

Why does it pain liberals so to show they love America and the freedoms and liberites that embodies the American spirit.

Anyone notice Obama's reference to Wright's words as "divisive"?  But in the same speech he refers to "devastating climate change"

I guess Wright's words don't rise to the same level as that devastating climate change.

If memory serves me

If memory serves me correctly, didn't Jackson have to back away from his statement after other black "leaders" criticized him?

I do recall him taking flak

I do recall him taking flak over it, and perhaps he later "clarified" his remark. But he did say it.

Oh, I clearly remember him

Oh, I clearly remember him saying it - it was widely reported at the time. It was probably one of the most honest things he has said in his political career. However, like "good deeds", no honesty goes unpunished.

Does that then make Al Sharpton his Aunt?

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Obama's speech

My wife, no liberal for sure, still was hoping that BO might help bring the races a little closer together. This has been a point of disagreement with us for weeks. But secretly, I kind of admired her optimism.Today she heard his "speech". All her "hope" is now gone. Sad.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

If ever there was a case of

If ever there was a case of actions speaking louder than words, it is this one. No soaring and eloquent rhetoric now can wash away the fact that, even with the knowledge his pastor was hateful, anti-American, and racist, Obama remained with his church for twenty years and was a close student and confidant. There were no disagreements or disavowals until all the bile became public. No pretty words can undo that, now.
