JOE SCARBOROUGH: Let me interrupt. This is interesting. Mika just handed me a Blackberry quote here. Chris Matthews, earlier this morning Tim Russert asked the question how would conservatives respond to this? Would they rally behind John McCain, against the New York Times, or would they go ahead and finish off John McCain? I've got this press release. Brent Bozell on the New York Times, quote, politically motivated hit job:Scarborough stopped there, but the rest of the release reads: "A ten-year old piece of gossip, with no evidence whatsoever -- this is what qualifies for 'news' at this disgrace of a newspaper."It is beyond appalling that the New York Times continues its steady slide into the journalistic toilet with such a spurious, and so patently motivated, hit job.
SCARBOROUGH: My point here Chris is, the conservatives, with Bozell and Hannity, appear to be siding with McCain. So does it help him politically?
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yes.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Everybody's going to general quarters right now, including Pat [Buchanan]. Brent Bozell's always on general quarters, let's face it. We're going to hear from Media Matters on this. Everybody goes to their battle stations on this.

It's such sweet irony when something like this backfires
February 21, 2008 - 10:37 ET by Dee BunkI hope it does and more people finally see the NYT for what it is.
The real sleazy cheater = NYT
New York Times
February 21, 2008 - 10:39 ET by allanfWell conservatives are not fond of the John McCain. Perhaps this blatant attempt by the "once respected" New York Times to influence the election will give McCain the party unity he could nto get at the polls.
this is not about
February 21, 2008 - 13:47 ET by TruthMongerthis is not about supporting McCain - it's about blasting the NYT
don't get your hopes up john - takes a bit more than this - quite a more actually

February 21, 2008 - 10:44 ET by TigerCan we all agree now that the NY Times is no more than a propaganda rag for the Democrat Party and is just as scurilous.

NYT
February 21, 2008 - 10:49 ET by iveseenitallConservatives don't particularly like McCain, but they despise the NYT. How sick is the NYT? Very sick. This is not about his politics, it's a personal attack. Perhaps the only other person who is not proud of John MCain as an American hero is Michelle Obama. This may unite the party.

The NYT should be thanked
February 21, 2008 - 10:50 ET by buddycThey have clearly proven that McCain is a virile, active, energetic 70 year old stud. Good for John. This puts to rest the claim he is too old.
Do you think thiis is why the NYT endorsed him?

February 21, 2008 - 10:57 ET by gopstevethe msm could ask hillary about juanita, only once to bill, but run with this...it's like many in the media do not even care that it's obvious they have a big

February 21, 2008 - 11:55 ET by dahliatraversGood point. If we're rehashing old scandals, will the New York Times once again cover Juanita's accusation? Possible headline:
"Potential Future President Might be Married to a Rapist"
Apparently, it doesn't matter that this allegation surfaced long ago. And, actually, it has far more credibility than the McCain story.
Right,buddyc
February 21, 2008 - 10:59 ET by iveseenitallRight, buddyc. Typical "liberal", disingenuous illogic. McCain's a crotchety OLD man ---who's having a "romantic affair" with a 40 year old. Huh??

You Have To Love This
February 21, 2008 - 11:03 ET by BourbeauThe NY Times assigns a team of four reporters to rehash 25 and 8 year old dirty laundry on McCain, complete with unnamed sources no less, and it is John McCain that has to stand at a podium and defend himself. Maybe Bill Keller should sit himself down with the four reporters at a table, and let his media colleauges take a whack at them with a few questions. How much fun would that be? Not to mention, it appears to me, that the NY Times apparently was writing the editorial to endorse McCain in one room, while their reporters were trying to knee-cap him in another with this bombshell. The media must stand up and force the NY Times to come clean. Do you have anything more reliable, in terms of facts, then what you have in this story? And if not Bill Keller, what prompted you to let this story run now?
McCain
February 21, 2008 - 11:23 ET by iveseenitallMcCain had this out with the NYT some time ago. I guess they made some promises not to let the story go to print. John should have taken my advice... NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Howdy isia... Where did
February 21, 2008 - 11:51 ET by bigtimerHowdy isia...
Where did you get the info that the NYT's made a promise to McCain that this wouldn't be printed and hit the streets?
I'm just curious.
Why would he hire the likes of Bob Bennett in the first place if this wasn't a worry to McCain?
I do think they were holding this until the primaries were over after they got their favorite RINO in...and then bring out their filthy long knives to do away with him..but a promise to not print this, I have never heard of yet... you have my curiousity up here...

February 21, 2008 - 12:52 ET by iveseenitallBT:
After listening to Bennett on t.v. last night, I just assumed they "probably" did make some kind of deal with McCain when this first came out. Bennett spoke at length about the Keating Five and his discussions with the Democrats about McCain. I assume the NYT was in on these discussions too. But, you know what they say about "assume"--I could be wrong.

Hey thanks isia for the
February 21, 2008 - 13:52 ET by bigtimerHey thanks isia for the response....
I don't think the likes of the NYT's slime machine would ever make promises to anyone with a 'R' after their name even if they are a RINO and they endorsed you to-boot...although listening to the mumble jumble from any lawyer at times may make anyone think anything they may want hear with the suggestions they make with all their over-paid words...lol.
Here is a short link/story about some of this back in Dec. seems McCain was begging or some such to not print this, he also would never hire a big time lawyer like Bennett if he didn't see major trouble a coming down the road in my humble opinion anyway.
Bird
February 21, 2008 - 11:35 ET by cvgbuckeyeThere was once a young robin who was always making a deal with a ground mole. The ground mole would give the robin a free worm and would require the robin to pay him with one feather. The robin loved this so much that, even in spite of warnings from other wiser robins, he continued the deal for a long, long time.
By and by it was time to make the big flight south but, you guessed it, the robin did not have enough feathers left to make the trip.
Hope you have a big blanket Senator.
Well, if you have learned anything, maybe some conservafeathers with names like Rush, Sean, Laura and the rest of us will take you in the house for the winter. Even if we shouldn't.
THE NEW YORK SLIMES...
February 21, 2008 - 13:19 ET by danybhoyBourbeau, While I have issues on several things McCain has done, & he's never been my 1st or 2nd choice, but he needs to learn that you should never trust the NYSlimes, or Bill Keller. I agree with you for the most part, but you did'nt go far enough. Bill Keller sitting down with reporters & being grilled about this would be ok, but I will tell you what would be fun...in my mind.
As of right now, he looks like a lock to be on the top of the ticket for the GOP in November, & if he beats whatever liberal/progressive/socialist/globalist/marxist te Dems nominate, McCain could make things interesting for people at the NYSlimes. Let's say he brings in someone like Rudy as Attn.General, & let's say they start investigating all of the leaks of classified information involving how we are fighting the War on Terror. Terrorst wiretapping, the tracking of terrorist financing, those sorts of things. Hold Keller & "Pinch" accountable for the damage they have done to our ability to protect America & fight our enemies. Now, quoting you, how much fun would that be?
This is all speculative of course, but if McCain is as vindictive as I think he is, I would love to see his famous temper take dead aim at the New York Slimes. They have done nothing but try to damage this nation many times over the years, & they have succeeded too often. I want this to happen, & I believe he would be on sound legal ground to do it...Now how much would you pay?

Curious Times
February 21, 2008 - 12:14 ET by NoMoreClintonsHas anyone asked why the NYT endorsed McCain about a month ago? Very curious...
NoMore...the answer is simple
February 21, 2008 - 12:42 ET by LionKingOnly conservatives view this news on McCain as negative. Liberals, the sexually amoral, welcome McCain as one of their own. Consider McCain outed as a liberal.
The NYT was just welcoming him to the party...unofficially, of course.
Seems obvious
February 21, 2008 - 12:53 ET by fonzie2178to me. They, along with the rest of the MSM, wanted McCain to secure the Republican nomination... They still get a guy who shares a lot of the same viewpoints on political issues that they have, i.e. illegals and abortion. They know that McCain doesn't have support from the conservatives in our base. Having McCain as the Republican nominee is a good way to sway the undies to the dems and keep the conservatives at home. Now that it seems like he has the nomination, he's just another dirty Republican who needs to be defeated by the democrat media darlings. I knew the MSM would throw McCain under the bus once the primaries were wrapped up, they have to support their own!
And if McCain somehow does
February 21, 2008 - 12:56 ET by Free StinkerAnd if McCain somehow does get elected, the MSM knows he won't be appointing judges like Alito or Thomas. Souter & O'Conner are more his speed.
Pledge to not support RINOs ever again!
NYT. . .
February 21, 2008 - 12:36 ET by FastEdequals New Yellow Tabloid. Now the question is: will conservative McCain see what his "friends" really think of him, or will he continue to cross the aisle?

February 21, 2008 - 12:38 ET by bluefeetbrewsEveryone is always itching for a fight and blows up over the least little thing. Yeah it's typical... but this will blow over in a few days or maybe weeks. You may have 1 Dan Rather out there who will cite the NYT continually, taking the story as fact, but in the long run there are more important topics that will replace this nonsense.
The best that can happen is that the networks scandalize the lack of integrity of the NYT over the next few days/weeks.

She is Miss American bod quality...........if I was John McCain I would have said, hey if I smoked I would be flattered that rag the New York Times said I lit up with her.........as she sure beats the hell out of Monica.........as all Conservative babes do.
