Really? According to a prominent supporter and Arkansan who's known her a long time, Hillary's apparently always had her sights set on the Oval Office.
Retired General Wesley Clark, a member of Team Hillary, appeared on today's Morning Joe and had this exchange with host Joe Scarborough.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: The Clinton campaign never saw this type of landslide coming, did they?
WESLEY CLARK: Well, I don't know. I'm not inside the campaign in the sense of working it day by day. But I've known Hillary Clinton for a long time, and she's a very resolute person. She's got a lot of great ideas. She's wanted this opportunity all her life. And she's gonna work it very, very hard.
Wesley better have his flame-resistant suit on when he gets back to Clinton HQ. The Hillary forces might not be pleased that Clark let the cat out of the bag about Clinton's overweening ambition.
Ironic, isn't it, to learn this about the woman who put out a press release to accuse Obama of long harboring presidential plans?

This game plan has been in the works, for everyone to see, from the moment she made her move to NY to run for Senate. She owned the machine. Instead of representing NY, she's been representing herself, getting all of her well oiled machine in place and all of her ducks in a row, waiting to pounce. Her only problem is, she thought she was the inevitable nominee. Her and her cohorts clearly underestimated Mr. Obama and now her dream appears to be fading as he's engaged her istraight on. Hillary believes this is her time and she will not give up. Time is going to tell if she can recover; as of right now, her only option is to go nuclear negative. I'm not sure that's the right move, or if it's going to work against this black man, as he has the momentum. Times are changing.

Well, it all depends on the meaning of "plans", right? Channeling Bubba the parse-master, I would say that what she had in her head was that she did not have a planned, concrete organization that has taken steps to make the run...but that doesn't mean that one day she won't, because she INTENDS to run in 2008. So she was truthful in her own mind about the answer to that question.
Gotta dissect every word that is ("depends on what the definition of "is" is") uttered by a Clinton.

You have to be very careful when you listen to a Clinton statement. She probably meant that, at that very moment, she did not have a written plan or even a piece of paper anywhere that said "I plan to run for President."
Even when everyone knew she was raising way more money than she needed for her virtually unopposed Senate run, and when she was giving some of it away to other Democrats to make them beholden to her, at that time she did not actually have a paper anywhere that said "Plans for Presidential Run."
So she was telling the "truth."

Even while she said she "had no plans to run" she was raising vast sums of money over and above what she needed for for a virtually unopposed Senate run. Why? While it was obvious to everyone with eyes and a triple-digit IQ that she was gearing up for a run, she still insisted she "had no plans." As I said in my comment above, she probably had no folder on her desk that said "Plans for Presidential Run, 2008." So, technically, perhaps, that was true.
