Matthews: 'Why Do Cubans Still Support Castro Brothers?'

Photo of Mark Finkelstein.

Chris Matthews on this afternoon's Hardball, speaking with Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.).
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Congressman Burton, why do you think Cubans on the island still support the Castro brothers? What is it that allows that lock on those people to continue?
DAN BURTON: I don't think they do support Castro, I don't think they supported Fidel or Raul. That is a Communist regime where they have block captains who watch everybody in each invidual block, and anybody that even speaks out against the government ends up in a gulag. Thousands and thousands of Cubans who want freedom and democracy have been in those Communist gulags for a long, long time, and many of them have been shot. Fidel Castro and Raul have even killed friends of theirs who they thought might want some positive change down there.
Would Chris Matthews have asked a Russian during the 1930s why people continue to support Stalin? Does Chris Matthews really need to have the facts of life in a brutal Communist dictatorship explained to him? Apparently yes.

A simple answer...

The threat of death and torture. It sure would make me support a brutal dictator if I had no other choice.

But here, we do have a choice. It's called Smith & Weston.

No, but obviously I have a lot of extra "t's" on my keyboard.

Corn oil keeps us free?

MSM - shaping all the perceptions you need to believe.

TnT -

The threat of death and torture.

Yeah, and if they screwed that up, you'd end up in one of their hospitals ... ewwww! Gimmie death!

The Castro brothers have all

The Castro brothers got all that support the same way that Saddam Hussein got 99% of the Iraqi vote.

A good retort from Burton might have been . . . .

Chris - after spending 30 years in Washington and seeing first hand how much destruction liberals have done to the fiber of America, why do you still support them? What is it that allows that lock on you to continue?

I know! I know! Because,

I know! I know! Because, like the Cuban peasants, liberals think all good things come only from the government and the president is their Big Daddy, who should be strict, yet loving, to keep all us little people in line?

Matthews is as dazzled by

Matthews is as dazzled by Castro as any teeny bopper. I'm sure there are many in Cuba who do love Castro. They've been brainwashed by forty plus years of propaganda. There are many in Russia who are nostalgic for Stalin, too.

Another gun nut for change.

Another gun nut for change.

To his credit...

at least Chris Matthews had on a Republican that did not mince words as to what life in Cuba is like.

He could have interviewed Jimmy Carter or some other apologist.

In fact, once the world is told that Fidel has achieved his rightful place in Hell, you will hear the accolades ad nauseum.

Is this dork for real?

CHRIS MATTHEWS: "Congressman Burton, why do you think Cubans on the island still support the Castro brothers? What is it that allows that lock on those people to continue?"

It must be their universal health care system, Numb-nuts.

Here're some more questions Matthews has about Cuba . . .

"Why is it we only hear about Cubans fleeing the island to come to the US, and not about people fleeing the US on rafts to Cuba?"

"Why don't the Castro brothers permit the foreign press to cover Cuba's political primaries and caucuses?"

"Can Obama win over the Hispanic vote in Cuba from Hillary?"

so chris matthews never heard the old saying

it's better to let people think you're stooopid, than to open your mouth and prove it.

let me just quote hank hill for a moment "just when i thought you said the dumbest thing i ever heard, you had to go and keep talking."

The Democrat platform and

The Democrat platform and the Communist Manifesto are identical, therefore, it's understandable why a Democrat doesn't see the problem with Fidel or any other Communist regime.

Chris is too busy drinking that rosey Kool-Aid

And wearing his rose colored glasses to take time out to investigate reality. His world is sooooooo much nicer and happier to be in without that nasty intrusion.

Personally, I think it's a good thing that MSNBC gives talk shows to the mentally retarded.  We need to see more mentally retarded pundits on other networks in my opinion, since MSNBC seems to have a surplus of them.  :-P

Cuba has generational servitude

When all the Andy Garcia's are forced out of a nation who would pick up a gun and fight a thug like Castro, all that is left is the sheep with Castro slaughtering a few in public to keep the others bleating passively.

If Europeans had not made them to be sheered, they would not have made them sheep.

Matthews needs to read Spanish memoirs of real Spaniards who lived in the New World. It might help him in explaining why the Castro wolves rule the Cuban sheep pen like all communists do........like all liberals like Clinton do.

It is why Putin rules in sheep pen Russia and why Democrats rule in sheep pen New York.

Does not compute

Matthews was probably baffled by the response. After all, Cubans must support Castro; how else could he get re-elected by such wide margins for so many years?

Gee, Chris, I don't know.

Why don't you fly down there and ask them yourself?

What is wrong with these myopic liberals? How can any rational human being look at what has gone on in Cuba since Fidel took power, or any other communist hell-hole that has ever existed in the world, and see anything positive, other than when the governments finally callapse under the weight of their own corruption?

Is this what libs like Matthews want for all of us?

miami

for all that I hate about miami, chris could go down there and fine, oohh, lets see I a guessing about 2 million people who HATE castro . . .

how the hell did this guy ever get this job?

Semi on target!

It has been my opinion, for many years, that the only reason Castro is still in power is because of our embargo on Cuba.  He's been able to point to that, as the reason for all of Cuba's problems, over the years, and it's worked.

Had we stopped the embargo, years ago, his people would have realized what a joke the communist system is and would have overthrown his government.

Democrats: Stuck on Stupid since 2000.

Matthews and Olberman are having a competition

They are trying to see who can utter the stupidest remark on the air and still maintain employment.

Damn. Are there any meters that can even measure that amount of stupidity?

I just watched two hours of

I just watched two hours of documentaries on "life" in North Korea. Why do the North Korean people support Kim Jung Il? Let's ask Chris.

It was totally depressing.

I once thought libs were the more compassionate ones. No more. They shield themselves from the ugly truth; think and act based on ignorance. Just ask Chris.

That depresses me too.

It's clear that he either has a bias...

or is among the most ignorant people on the planet.

I'd like to think he's just ignorant...but I know better.

Happy Trails...

That Chris Mathews would even ask that question

shows how totally unaware he is of how incredibly stupid he seems on TV.  He is indeed pathetic.

Chris Matthews

Was he born this stupid or did he have to work at it? Unbelievable

I'm pretty certain that it's

I'm pretty certain that it's a gift.  That's the kind of stupid you just have to be born with.  You either have it, or you don't.  Let that be a lesson to you kids, no matter how hard you work, you won't be as stupid as Chris without a god-given talent.
