McCain: I'd Sign Amnesty Bill, But 'They' Want Borders Secured First

Takeaway exchange from John McCain's Meet The Press appearance today.

TIM RUSSERT: If the Senate passed your bill, S-1433, the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill, would you as president sign it?

JOHN MCCAIN: Yeah, but the lesson is that it isn't going to come, it isn't going to come. The lesson is they want the borders secured first.

View video here.

"They" want the borders secured first. From the same man who said:

I think the fence is least effective. But I’ll build the goddamned fence if they want it.

Will the MSM let voters know that McCain continues to support the amnesty bill he forged with Ted Kennedy, and only grudgingly agrees to secure the borders because "they" -- those pesky American citizens, want it?

With the election out of the way, McCain would sign an amnesty

bill in a heartbeat.....probably encourage virtually the same bill to be presented, in fact.

Disgusting.  Outside of Iraq, tell me again how McCain would be any different than Billary?

 Of course he would've

Of course he would've signed Amnesty first, the same way he would've given amnesty to everyone at Club Gitmo if they happened to be waterboarded like Shiek Muhammed, or if they didn't recieve a Halal meal, or if thier Koran's happened to get ant shit on them or they accidentally got a tan because they didn't have a Dasheike on.

I am liking the long election cycle more and more...

It's going to hammer out the wannabes, grifters, shills, Rinos and detritus built of sham and rhetoric.

By the time the election rolls around, the winner is going to be fire-forged, tempered, and sharpened to a razors edge by the adversity of the process.

It's hard, it's unforgiving, but all the warts, scars and foibles are being microscopically examined, giving "We the People" a great chance at at least not getting the worst of the bunch!

I was vehemently against

I was vehemently against long elections. . .until I read this post.

I change my stance. I'm seeing this as a good thing now. Thanks for the reasoned insight.

I know Romney has the money,

I know Romney has the money, and Rudy probably does too, and they would be crazy if they each didn't have an ad running 24/7 with this nice little bit of prose from McCain.

Unbelievable?

Hardly. By his own admission J. McCan't is a mole operating for the democraps.

If this dumbass thinks he's gonna hold the top job in the world, he's dreaming.

We may be "they", but he's "them", and nobody can stand them.

Americans would be happy if

Americans would be happy if 'they' enforced the laws already on the books. The government should be required to enforce the laws and acts they create. The American people do not have an option except to follow the laws. Why should our government (and that includes local and state) be able to pick and choose which laws they want to follow.

kg, you got that right

We have laws now that simply need enforcement...instead, they rewrite laws to be less stringent and then refuse to enforce the new ones!

Right here in Georgia they passed a law last september to stop companies from hiring illegals (which was already against the law) and they refuse to enforce it.

I say it is truly time to purchase more guns and STOP PAYING TAXES until the gubment gets the message.

We kicked King George's ass for a lot less than the crap we're enduring now.

vandalism story

I thought I would repost this exchange from earlier in the day so more of you would be aware of this story from Florida concerning gangs and vandalism.  If you want to see some of the pictures and a short video of the vandals themselves, you can go to The Tampa Tribunes website and type in 'vandalism' is the search box.

vandalism + hateJanuary 27, 2008 - 14:39 ET by Catherwood

I wish all of you could have seen what gang-banging vandals did to the new school in my community last Tuesday night.  The two did in excess of $10k damage to the school by smashing glass, spray  painting walls with gang symbols and epithets, ruining the gym floor, tearing up office equipment, ruining audio visual equipment, etc.  Their final act (you won't believe this!) was to tear down an American flag and urinate on it.  They pulled the flag out into a hall to be sure they were on video.  They also stole about $5k worth of stuff including radioes, computers, and clothing which they wore to school the next day to impress their like-minded friends.  The two vandals were caught the next day and charged with multiple felonies.  They were incarcerated in the local juvenile jail where they have to stay for a whole 30 days.  They were 15 years old and in the eighth grade.  And, it was all captured on video.  You should see it; you really should.

Cather... God help thisJanuary 27, 2008 - 14:44 ET by bigtimer

Cather...

God help this country.

Did the local news report this, did they give any reason for the poor little misunderstood buggers...

Sickening, pathetic and maddening... I hope they get a full sentence possible coming to them, plus having to work off the damage they did when the leave...I don't care how long it takes.

vandalismJanuary 27, 2008 - 19:44 ET by Catherwood

Yes, the local news people covered the story in print and on the local tv stations.  The damage was so extensive it attracted quite a bit of attention.  Word is in the community is the vandals will be back in court in Thursday to face more charges.  Textbook damage and other overlooked damage has now emerged.  Another encouraging word was that the school's insurance company is going to try a recoup some off its losses with a civil suit.  Discouraging word is that the vandals will be allowed back in the school system at the local alternative school.  I am sure they will return there as heroes.  It really is sickening to hear the vandals' apologists plead their case.  For example, the school has already been blamed for not 'properly' securing the school.

Build the Fence John?

What the hell happen to the one that is suppose to be built now?Eleven miles John? When are you and your congressional buddies running for President going to build the one from 2006?When is one of these gutless wonders who are claiming to be moderators going to ask the candidates what they are doing about that?

I'm a "They"

And I get a chance to let mister McCant know how I feel about him Tuesday! Since Fred left me, my money goes to Mitt. Suck eggs John!

A President to be Proud of (for a change)

I have to wonder if any of the folks supporting John Keating5 McCain have ever bothered to listen to him speak. I watched him this morning ramble like a confused old man, trying to mix confused substantive subjects with rambling joke lines that nobody seemed to get or laugh at.

Although I have for the most part strongly supported Bush, after spending over 7 years of cringing in embarassment every time he spoke publicly I want a president who is able to present himself in such a way that I can take pride in the leader of my country. On the Republican side this means Romney or Guiliani. No cornball Arkansas hillbillies, no confused and bitter old men.

captain -- don't

captain -- don't worry.

All those liberal media outlets endorsing or cheerleading for McCain now, will soon start mentioning all the flaws you have just described... the second after he wins the nomination.

Check out my exclusive edit of BBC News America's interview with Mrs Clinton: It's news to me!

Yup.   The only difference is that, unlike with any other Republican, they will truly be regretful about it.

But they will have no choice.  Above all, there must be a "D" in the White House.

Jack, Monday morning politicos

McCain completely detached from R's

Every day, with every statement he makes, McCain proves he is not only completely detached from his supposed core Republican base, but is getting loopier as the weeks roll by. This is only the latest example.

To his sainted mother who fusses about why the "base" isn't supporting her son John, I would say, "John has no Republican base. He is not a maverick. He is a Democrat through and through. Always has been. Always will be."

confirmation

I have been telling EVERYONE that would listen that McCain had not changed his mind about amnesty, only his tactic for achieving it.

Now maybe a few will actually pay attention.

“I would remind you
that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind
you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”

McCain (D-AZ) has always

McCain (D-AZ) has always been snuggly with Mz Clinton, always opposed tax cuts, always supported amnesty, always gone against his constituents, and has said time and again that the media is his "base". Come back to us Fred!! We need you.

You support the troops by supporting the mission! If you don't support the mission, have the guts to say you don't support the troops.

Arch, we are working on

Arch, we are working on it.

The Conservative movement is about to be reborn.

You McCain haters look like fools

You guys look like a bunch of idiots.  McCain's no liberal.  He has an 83% lifetime ACU rating!  And the guy that wonders how he differs from Hillary?  How about championing conservative judges?  He did.  He fought for Bork.  Forget that?  He's never inserted an earmark (according to Citizens Against Gov't Waste).  He's never voted for a tax increase.  He's the only candidate that actually walks the walk on smaller government.  Come back Fred?  Fred cosponsored McCain-Feingold!  No candidate is perfect.  And McCain certainly pissed me off on some issues.  But the guy is no liberal, so quit saying he is.  It makes you all look like fools.  He's got a good chance at being the nominee, and the swing voters will vote for the guy.  You want Hillary in the White House with Bill chasing the interns?  Get smart, and grow up.

Spotted: One McCain Fan

*blinks eyes*

A McCain fan on a Republican website? There are Republicans out there who like John McCain? I thought that was just a myth. Come closer for a second; I want to poke you to see if you are real.

-Please tell me why he opposed Bush's tax cuts.

-Please tell me why he believes in manmade global warming.

-Please tell me exactly why Vanity Fair called him a maverick.

-Please tell me how his amnesty plan is not amnesty (hint: paying a small fee does not count).

-Please explain the Gang of 14.

-Please explain why he doesn't want us waterboarding bad guys.

-Please explain his desire to give federal funding for embryo destruction.

-Please explain why he won't let us drill ANWR.

-Please explain why he opposed the traditional marriage amendment.

-Please explain why he has told the media that given the chance to overturn Roe v Wade he wouldn't do it.

...but what am I thinking? The ACU gave him 82.3% that's gotta count for sumpin...

PS I think it's pretty funny you bash Fred for supporting McCain-Feingold but forget to mention the fact that John McCain's name was actually in it......

I'm the one bashing?

I wasn't bashing Fred.  I'm bashing you and your group of thumb suckers for not focusing on the real liberals: Hillary and Obama.  I'm simply pointing out that Fred, the supposed conservative savior, cosponsored a bill.  Yes, a bill that was bad.  Yes, McCain isn't on the right side of a bunch of issues.  You listed 'em.  Amnesty?  He's for the fence now.  Accept the victory.  The rest?  I agree that he's wrong.  But he's right on a lot of others.  And the war on Islamic terror is the paramount issue of the next 10 years; we need a guy with some balls to win it.  By the way, the Gang of 14 preserved the minority power to thwart the Dems' attempt to deny the Surge, and it also ensured several great judges getting confirmed.  I'm not a McCain "fan" by the way.  I liked Hunter, but he's out.  We are going to have a nominee, and I'll take any of the ones left (McCain, Romney, Huck, Rudy).  I'm keeping my eye on the ball, while you infants wet yourselves.

okay

So basically your answer is "yeah he sucks but he's better than Hillary."

Chalk up another for the loyalty side.

Now you're an adult

Yes.  That's right.  "Politics is the art of the possible".  Remember that when it's down to Hillary and McCain/Mitt/Rudy/Huck.

I said this a year ago and

I said this a year ago and I say it again:  Hillary will not be the Democratic nominee for President on 2008.

That being said, if Obama is the candidate, he'd best not expect Hillary to help him win.   If he does win, he'd best have not put Hillary in a position where she can obtain the Presidency by his death and he ought to watch his back in any event.

I really don't care who the Democrats nominate.  there isn' one of them I'd vote for.  There isn't one republican still in the race I'd vote for preferentially.

The only reason that McCain

The only reason that McCain (D-AZ) has switched positions is that he knows he's losing Republican votes (again). He truly doesn't want us to secure our borders but grudgingly will go along with it to secure a nomination before going back to his core beliefs once he becomes President. He won't fight for tax cuts. He won't fight for conservative judges. Hell, anyone who chums up to Mz Clinton and Ted "the killer of women" Kennedy the way this guy does fills me with contempt. I respect him for his service to the country but that does not mean he would make a good Commander in Chief.

Mccain (D-AZ) is a media whore. He loves the attention and will do anything to keep the love coming his way. He loves being called the "maverick Republican". And that only means one thing to us on the Right: he sells us out every chance he gets. I believe that if he should become President and has a (*)emocrat house and senate to contend with, he would buckle under and dismantle the war on terror. As it is now, he wants to close Gitmo and get rid of proven techniques to get information from known terrorist operatives.

So if being against a man who is against everything the party should stand for is stupid, then I'm the biggest idiot here.

Everyone who reads this should remember one thing: the photo of him and Mz Clinton smiling at each other like teenagers. They are one and the same.

FRED '08

  Those Judges would

Those Judges would have gone through if Sen. McCain would have allowed the Senate to change the rules instead of the "Gang of 14".  We would have gotten more Judges for the lower courts that got thrown to the way side because those rules weren't change.   Thank you, Senator John McCain.

Appeal to Authority

The phrase "He has an 83% lifetime ACU rating!" is a classic example of the "Appeal to Authority" logical fallacy.

The ACU cannot make John McCain a conservative. What part of McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, opposing the Bush tax cuts as "tax cuts for the rich" or leading the Gang of 14 do you find conservative?

The only people McCain

The only people McCain feels beholding to is the media.

He sides with the Media's viewpoint on the latest issue of the moment.

So the "they" in that statement are everyone else outside that room, everyone but McCain and the Media.

To John -

At the end of the day,

It will be the "they"

who oppose you winning the white house,

Come Tuesday your boat,

and your amnesty vote,

will be sunk and as dead as a trapped mouse.

.............

The people believe,

Those that you can't decieve,

And "they" honor your sacrifice and service,

On to many issues your wrong,

Youv'e been at this too long,

And "they" are the ones you make nervous.

..............

Please bear out with me John,

For I could go on and go on,

On your tax votes and your leaving free speech off the table,

You have much to be desired,

So instead of "Your Fired"

"They" will vote "No John" when "They're" able.

"They"....who the heck is

"They"....who the heck is he talking about? The very people he wants to vote for him for President? I think not! McCain is so out of touch with reality, he needs to get out of that bubble he is living in and get real!

Let's go Floridians, do the right thing tomorrow!

Too many explanations points, sorry, but I am mad.

I know, right?

I'm so curious to see how a real republican primary turns out. Tuesday, I can't wait to see McCain and Huckabee put in their place. I just hope Rudy does well enough to continue to Super Tuesday, cause that's who I will vote for. If he's not there I guess it'll be Romney.

I know this sounds bad but, I will not ever vote for McCain or Huckabee, if one of them are the rep. nomination I will stay home. I will not be responsible for these jerks getting into office. If Obama wins because of all the rep.s staying home then, so be it.

John McAnnie Wilkes

John McCain reminds me more and more of Annie Wilkes in "Misery." Especially on the topic of securing the border. "I'll build your cocky-doody fence, Mister Man!"

And put Tim Russert in green pants and round glasses and he'd be a dead ringer for 'Family Guy's' Peter Griffin.

To the supporters of Sen. John McCain:

If for some reason this fraudulent man, who has betrayed just about every conservative ideal there is, somehow manages to win the nomination for the Republican Party, this is one conservative that will not be staying home on election day.

I will be voting for his democrat opponent. And I care not who that person is.

I have been forced to watch the current republican president (who is nearly as liberal as Sen. McCain) bring the Republican Party to the very edge of the proverbial cliff. I will do all I can to see that the man who will willingly kick them over that cliff does not get elected president.

It will be far better for the republicans in the near and long-term to have to work in opposition to a liberal democrat president than be forced to accomodate a liberal "republican" one, as the latter condition would most likely destroy the party.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe
