Just in case anyone doubted it . . .
From today's Morning Joe.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: The press corps, for the most part, there are exceptions, loathe Mitt Romney. And the press corps loved to see all of the Republicans [at the ABC debate this past Saturday night] kicking the tar out of him, and they were all sitting there smirking. But I thought it was too much. I think if you're sitting at home in New Hampshire, you sit back after a while and you say, first of all, why does John McCain hate personally so much. But secondly, why are they all attacking Mitt Romney? He must be the guy with the ball; he must be the guy who's ahead.
View video here.
DAVID SHUSTER: Well, they did it pretty effectively. But you're right, if John McCain is driving down the street and he sees Mitt Romney, he puts his foot on the accelerator and runs him over. I mean, it was a great line at the debate Saturday night. There's McCain sitting there talking about Romney's negative ads and calling McCain's immigration plan amnesty, and McCain says "you can spend your entire personal fortune, but that doesn't make it true." Great line, it had sort of a harsh edge to it, you get very close to --SCARBOROUGH: Exactly. That's the point. Great line for the press, who doesn't seem to like Mitt Romney, and who I think every last one of them would move to Massachussets and marry John McCain if they could, but what does it mean to the New Hampshire voter at home that doesn't want to see this anger in John McCain they saw back in 2000?

Shamus McAnus
January 7, 2008 - 07:09 ET by Cool ArrowI just don't see the attraction of McCain.
The years have not been kind to him, he tried to stab me in the face with his Dem buddies on campaign finance and Illegal Liberals.
Move along McAnus

January 7, 2008 - 07:35 ET by OldSailor88CA, you have scored on that name! I laugh every time I see it.
On point. The MSM loves McAnus because he is a Liberal running as a Republican. If the election is McAnus vs. Hussein, it's a win win situation for them.

}}---> Will Shamus drop out
January 7, 2008 - 07:58 ET by Cool ArrowI think the important thing is when will Shamus drop out. If the timing is soon, I think the support goes to Huckabee.
If he drops out late, Huckabee will no longer be in the running but I don't know who gets his supporters. Probably Fred.

McAmnesty is a liberal idiot who wants to "fight" global warming
January 7, 2008 - 16:51 ET by PopularTechI flat out will not vote for McAmnesty. I cannot believe people in New Hampshire are this stupid. This moron wants to fight global warming:
John McCain - McCain and Lieberman Push for New Anti-Global Warming Legislation (The National Center for Public Policy Research)
John McCain - Senators McCain and Lieberman Propose Energy Tax (The National Center for Public Policy Research)
Huckabee: Raising Taxes OK
The Anti "Man-Made" Global Warming Resource

January 7, 2008 - 09:27 ET by motherbeltI think John McCain should be very careful. At his age, being aggressive is one thing, and he may think it makes him seem younger and stronger. But he needs to be leery of overdoing it and being seen as a "crotchety old man." That's the last thing he needs.
And just what is the MSM's problem with Romney? Maybe Romney should start questioning out loud if they are anti-Mormon. After all, the media are very quick to pose tthe racist question of anyone who questions Obama, let's see how they handle it when it's thrown in their own face.

I agree
January 7, 2008 - 09:56 ET by kgIf the media hates Romney, that alone is a great reason to vote for him. Remember that CHANGE is the buzz word this election cycle.
Media wildly slanted against Romney
January 7, 2008 - 07:58 ET by CrenraThe media is wildly biased against Republicans that could win a general
election, and supportive of those who couldn't, all of course
supporting the Democratic agenda.
Huckabee could absolutely positively never win a general election,
therefore unlimited glowing stories of him appear and his inability to
actually be president is ignored. McCain could absolutely positively
never win a general election, McCain exists only to spoil and therefore
has magically become "unstoppable".
After a great Republican debate last night, Sunday night, with good
performances by Giuliani and Romney and stumbling performances by
McCain and Huckabee, a room full of undecided Republican voters asked
if they liked Romney almost universally and enthusiastically raised
their hands confirming that they believed Romney delivered the message
they wanted to hear and that they liked him. The host also showed a
computer generated chart illustrating how Romney's approval went
off-scale several times when he was speaking. I believe it's safe to
say Romney did very well, if not won, in the debate.
This morning is there any mention on any news site about the debate?
This morning is there any mention of Romney's performance? This morning which
Republican spoiler candidate yet again appears in a big front page
photo with captions like, "The one to beat"?
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the media universally hates Romney,
and now not surprisingly, Romney is a candidate that could actually win
in November. The media will do anything in it's power to promote the
Democrats and the most promising Republican *spoiler*.
The media is wildly slanted and has a huge agenda.

January 7, 2008 - 08:10 ET by Cool ArrowI'm not seeing the "Media Hates Romney" stuff.
Admittedly, I watch FOX almost exclusively, but I didn't see Charles Gibson trashing him Friday night.

Hmmm.
January 7, 2008 - 08:37 ET by mytwocentsThe MSM doesn't have to trash Romney to get what they want. All they have to do is ignore him when he does well.
Ignore and defeat
January 7, 2008 - 09:09 ET by CrenraYes, this is absolutely correct.
Ignoring Romney when he does well is their strategy. Romney could dive into a frozen river to pull someone to safety and it would get zero coverage.
Regarding MSM pushing candidates, we tried a little experiment a couple of days ago and it worked, as it always works.
Pick a time in the future, several minutes or several hours. At that chosen time either turn on a MSM news cast or visit a MSM website. What you will see: Large photo of either Hillary or Obama. Small photo of either Edwards or Huckabee. Large or small photo of McCain.
The MSM loves Obama. The MSM loves to show Edwards speaking poorly about Hillary. The MSM loves to (while laughing) push Huckabee. The MSM loves to (while rolling their eyes) push McCain.
The MSM hates Romney. Romney could dive into a frozen river to pull someone to safety and it wouldn't make the news.
And if Romney is the
January 7, 2008 - 09:25 ET by motherbeltAnd if Romney is the candidate, look for a LOT more of the same. They will have a tougher time ignoring him then, but they will try, and they will minimize the positive and magnify the negative every chance they get.
And as the election nears, and everyone else is barred from ads, that's ALL we'll see about Romney

mb, the MSM is AGGRESSIVELY trying to kill Romney's campaign
January 7, 2008 - 09:48 ET by RJFor example, on several Sunday talk shows yesterday, the theme they repeated over and over was "if Romney loses New Hampshire then his candidacy is dead."
This morning, Dan Rather said the same thing.
AH the Irony
January 7, 2008 - 11:32 ET by BinxlyHahaha I find it laughable that Mr Rather comes on TV this morning, claiming that the media is somehow burying a not quite dead yet HRC campaign. She lost big in Iowa and last night in New Hampshire it seemed and is showing to be. Yet Dan claims she's not done. However, her comparable counterpart in equal power on the *other* side of the issues, Mitt Romney, Dan finds no problem claiming that if he loses there he is as good as dead.
I am big on making sure bias is *truely* bias and not just crybaby knee-jerking in reaction to an opinion someone disagrees with, but with statements like Dan's today about Hillary and his statements about Romney in the same situation, but detailing two different outcomes, you don't even need to *squint* to see the bias. It's plain as day. Someone get that fossil off of my TV and News. If he wants to be a celebrity judge of one of those new game shows, sure. If he wants to talk about sports, ok. However, tell him to politely keep his opinions to himself or forever give up the title of 'objective journalist' he seems to esteem in himself so highly.
Dead? Yeah ... whatever
January 7, 2008 - 18:39 ET by qapilotSince when do two primaries determine the nominees? New Hampshire and Iowa are barely a fraction of the country's population. Romney places second in one, is projected to be first or second in the other, and was the winner in Wyoming. And the media wants to stick a fork in him?
The MSM are doing everything possible to undermine Romney. As balanced as Charles Gibson was on debate night, George Stephanopolous made up for it by ripping into Romney on "This Week." And it's very interesting how the media handled Huckabee's defeat. Anytime evangelicals vote in power, the media is highly critical. In this case, they almost worshipped the worshipful for handing Romney a second-place "bitter defeat." Total manipulation.
Romney can rise above it, though. He's got what it takes...
The media hates Fred
January 7, 2008 - 08:36 ET by OldSailor88Have you noticed that Fred has become "the one not spoken of?" They are scared crapless that he may surge and get the GOP nod. Fred is the MSM's and the Dems/Libs worst nightmare.

January 7, 2008 - 08:44 ET by Cool ArrowI think the MSM is just disappointed in that the anticipation of his entry was more exciting than his actual declaration.
He came in lethargically and just didn't seem to show much enthusiasm. I was one of those people dying to see him jump in. He's picking up steam and showing a flicker of fire now. I'm hoping he'll continue.

January 7, 2008 - 11:39 ET by BinxlyAgreed CA. I have my guy Im supporting now during the primaries, but, much like a few others, Thompson is someone I can live with as POTUS. I think while he may be a bit too old fashioned personally when it comes to certain social issues, his stance as almost a statist in believing in leaving the more slippery issues to be debated and decided upon by the state themselves rather than deal with messy, unpopular federal mandates, leads him to be ok in my book.
I think too like you said, the anticipation outweighed the payoff of the declaration. Sorta like how a child seems to almost enjoy the buildup of christmas or their birthday the days beforehand, and then, when the day comes, it feels like it was an outcome less exciting than expected. However, last night he did not seem the usual 'off' and 'stuttering' guy I saw in the past debates. He came off as highly educated in the issues, good ideas, a very open approach to issues but still focused on his principles. I was insanely impressed and look forward to hearing more from him in future debates. If he pulls more performances like he did last night, I may change my mind about believing he has no shot for the GOP nod. Last night he came off like a man who actually has the passion and know-how to do the job.
Media doesn't like because his shows draw more viewers!
January 7, 2008 - 11:52 ET by PawpawNFred draws more viewers than MSM, so they don't like him. Also being a statist, a Repub, etc., just adds fuel to the flame!
