Ponytail Guy Lives: 'How Are You Going to Fix My Life?'

You remember Ponytail Guy, who during a 1992 presidential townhall pathetically implored the candidates to "treat us as your children." I don't know what's become of Ponytail Guy, but his Big Mommy Government-loving spirit was celebrated on CNN this evening.

At 5:40 PM ET on the Situation Room, anchor Suzanne Malveaux asked congressional correspondent Jessica Yellin what she was seeing out on the Dem campaign trail in Iowa that the TV cameras might be missing.

View video here.

JESSICA YELLIN: [Iowa voters] really take this process as a legitimate experience and feel entitled to ask "how are you going to fix my life?"

Yellin said she found the approach "refreshing." I'd say that asking Hillary Clinton -- or any politician for that matter -- to "fix my life" is foolhardy . . . and sad.

Iowa sob stories

I wish I had access to the audio from the local radio ad for John Edwards here in the Mason City, IA, market.  It features a guy who lost his job when a factory closed.  The guy says we need Edwards in Washington to stand up for the little guy.  Obviously business owes its workers jobs, and if they close a plant, the only conclusion you can draw is that they're screwing the little guy.

I don't find that refreshing.  I find that manipulative and cruel.  It gives people false hope.  It also means there are people who don't understand that it's up to them to take care of themselves.  Unfortunately, people lose jobs.  Sometimes it's unjust, but most of the time it's just life.  No one in Washington can guarantee that it won't happen to you or me or anyone else.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Must mean the "fix" is in ...

It's apparent that the message of the Democrats and MSM is that government exists for the purpose of "helping" people. Excuse me, but that is what charities and churches are for. It is not the role of government to "fix" people's lives or make them better.

Nanny State

This isn't a Nanny State...

Notice the question is fine.

Notice the question is fine. No chiming in to question the question. I have a question......What is government going to do to GET OUT OF MY LIFE??????

"how are you going to fix my life?"

Exactly GregE, sounds like a question from someone in N.O. just picked off a roof.(thank you 'school bus Nagan') You don't hear this from those in tornado country, or those in Missisippi, they fix themselves. And I haven't heard this from the CA fire ravaged people either. I don't want more government in my life, I look after my family, I don't want government handouts, like most Americans, I'll take care of mine.

Foxfan: Thanks for the

Foxfan:
Thanks for the compliment! We in Mississippi prefer to try to do all we can for ourselves - sometimes it works, like electing Haley Barbour, sometimes it does not, like electing Ray Mabus. But, we try.
What I believe most of us here would like is a little less government "fixing" our lives. With the opportunity to succeed comes the opportunity to fail. We just want the opportunity!
Merry Christmas Everyone!

I'd say that asking

I'd say that asking Hillary Clinton -- or any politician for that matter -- to "fix my life" is foolhardy . . . and sad.

Not sad...pathetic.

This is what many citizens have come to expect from government....what are you going to do for me???

Jeez, look at Hillary Clinton's Christmas ad...all the "presents" she's going to give the American people..uiversal pre-K, universal health care...oh, AND a tax break (that's if she doesn't do a "Bill" and whine that she worked on that harder than anything else in her life, but couldn't do it!). That's the name of the game...who's got the most goodies.

Years ago, Sir Keith Joseph, a British gentleman, commented that Britain was becoming a "pocket money society."

The money quote. from a speech by Liam Fox, MP:
First, the Labour Government was appropriating more and more of
people's take home pay. It was turning adults' earnings into little
more than children's allowances.
Second, as well as leaving people with less and less of their own
money, Labour was taking out of their hands the important decisions
that affected them and their families. From the education of their
children to saving for retirement, the big decisions increasingly
became the function of a so-called benevolent state. Like pocket money,
people's earnings were there to be spent on the trivialities of life;
not the serious stuff.

Sound familiar?

Merry Christmas mother

Speaking of looking at Hillary Clinton's Christmas ad, Cynthia has a great video response on that topic.

Merry Christmas mother.

Fix my life

I was contemplating every evil and good world shaping person from Hitler, Stalin to Lincoln, Reagan.

None of these people ever uttered the term, HOW IS GOVERNMENT GOING TO FIX MY LIFE.

Sure the dictators will promise the bleating sheep of socialism and communism a bed, a potatoe and a nice grave to die for, because people never understand that Eurasia sucks in being a place where caste systems control lives in cartel's control all the cash and land so no one ever has a chance at being a billionaire unless you are George Soros who is a funded communist meant to wage war on the western nations to so screw up their governments and resources that communists can then tell Iowa sheep, "We will fix your life".

I was reading again the Civil War.........no not that dolt Ken Burns leftist weirdo garbage, but the real policy decisions taken, the real policies President Lincoln set for blacks, the real policies President Andrew Johnson implemented for blacks and the real polices General George Custer carried out for blacks in Texas.

Yes General Custer was a shaper of the American Civil Rights movement which will probably shock most people. He was sent by the Government to march across Texas in 1866 to bring order to that slave state. The people cherished him and in policy he soon found freed blacks unwilling to work and DEMANDING THE SAME THING IOWA DEMOCRATS ARE.

General Custer, who was a Democrat of all things and voted Republican, told the blacks the Army was not going to feed them nor was the government, so they were to quite following it around and were to go back to the former plantations and go to work as hired workers. And they did just that and set the foundation of the successful families which America now sees.

I will be the first to admit that I rely on God one thousand percent for running the life He gave me. If I don't know how to run my life.........the last thing in this world is a group of idiot people in government trying to "fix my life". The world is full of dolts who always know how to run someone else's life and ten times out of ten it will only bring misery and failure.

As each year goes by, I become more convinced that I do not want the people of Iowa or New Hampshire picking who will lead this nation as they are so screwed up they always pick wrong and it falls to the later states to try and undo the "fix my life" attitude those rather over blessed in material wealth Iowans seem to suck tit on to quote a Lincoln phrase.

Iowans have got to figure it out. Life is a mix of 90 percent drudgery, 9 percent misery and 1 percent joy. The Russians had a proverb which went, You are born, you suffer and then you die.
You can't fix life, because God made life here a strenuous struggle in order to grow a Spirit in people to change them into Spiritual children who will never die.

So Iowa and Democrats face the fact that life is a pisser most days and your "fixing it" is turning it into the Niagra Falls of urinals for the rest of Americans.

Flush the toilet, pretend you have a good life, say your prayers, be a good citizen, obey the 10 Commandments and enjoy what you can.........that is life.

Merry Christmas............Jesus was born in a barn and put in a feed trough. That ain't great but that is life and He turned out ok without Rome or the Jews fixing it.

I find it hard to believe

After stunned amazement, I had to stop and say to myself. "Wait a minute. This is CNN."
I just cannot believe that there are many voters out there who are looking to government to solve all their problems. I can't. I guess I have too much optimism for America. Please don't let me down.

Second..... anyone who does believe what this woman is propagandizing, deserves whatever happens to them.

Merry Christmas

FIX MY LIFE-LEAVE ME ALONE

The best way any politician can fix my life is to stay out of it! They can do what they are supposed to do, keep the military strong to protect the nation, deliver the mail, enforce ALL THE LAWS and keep their hands off my money! If they stick to that it would be a start! MERRY CHRISTMAS

The Fall of Democracy

The Fall of Democracy

When the thirteen colonies were still a part of England, Professor Alexander Tyler wrote about the fall of the Athenian republic over two thousand years previous to that time:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.

Alexander Tyler

Amazing

Fix MY life! If this doesn't evince an attitude, nothing does. What a selfish, ignorant question- so typical of  modern "liberals". What ever happened to the "common good"? I asked this question to a class of college students recently. "Common good?"-they didn't know what the heck I was talking about. ME,ME,ME---SELF,SELF,SELF --- that's the modern "liberal" way. Ironic and sad.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Fix my life

and govts response should be yes but first we need to fix something else.  Certain traits need to be removed from the gene pool.

Wasn't it Renaldus Magnus

Wasn't it Renaldus Magnus who said: "The most feared words in the English language are: Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help!"?

Praise the farmer and

Praise the farmer and independent businessman. They create the largess from which all other pursuits are possible. Those that live off of this largess and are non-contributors (trail lawyers, bureucrats, politicians, actors, journalists) do not and will never understand where our strength and purpose is derived. These people should be shunned as they do not know. And no coincidence they are democrats.

"Treat me like children" = "I will give up my freedom, my rights, my right the pursuit... if you give me the gifts in Hillary's queen for a day commmercial" How insubtantial, pathetic and co-dependent. Please leave this country to grown-ups.

Merry Christmas to all, especially the troops.

If I want my life fixed

I'll call a psychiatrist.

This is the sort of thinking....

This is the sort of thinking that brought us the disatrous aftermath of Katrina.  No one bothered to do anything for themselves.  They waited for government to take care of them and then whined when it didn't happen fast enough.
