Who'd you bet on in a Mixed Martial Arts match between Paul Krugman and Maureen Dowd? You might get the chance. Earlier this week, Krugman called Barack Obama a "sucker" and a "fool," while praising Hillary. Maureen Dowd has now gone after Paul's girl, calling Clinton every name in the headline and a few more.
The theory of Dowd's column today is that while Hillary knows how to shake Barack Obama with her ice-cold demeanor, Rudy will revel in the combat with Clinton. Excerpts from "Shake, Rattle and Roll" [emphasis added]:
- The debate dominatrix knows how to rattle Obambi.
- Mistress Hillary started disciplining her fellow senator last winter, after he began exploring a presidential bid. When he winked at her, took her elbow and tried to say hello on the Senate floor, she did not melt, as many women do. She brushed him off, a move meant to remind him that he was an upstart who should not get in the way of her turn in the Oval Office.
- He was so shook up, he called a friend to say: You would not believe what just happened with Hillary.
- She has continued to flick the whip in debates.
- Other guys, like Rudy, wouldn’t even be looking for a chance to greet Hillary, as Obama always does. Other guys, like Rudy, wouldn’t care if she iced them.
- But she can tell that Obama does care, that he doesn’t want her to not like him or be mad at him, that he responds to the sort of belittling treatment that she sometimes dished out to her husband and his male aides at the White House, yelling at them and calling them wimps if they disappointed her.
- She is a control freak — that’s why her campaign tried to coach wonky Iowa voters to ask wonky questions — and her male rivals are letting her take control.
- Hillary has her work cut out for her. Rudy will not be so easy to spank.
Maureen obviously doesn't heart Hillary. But she treats Barack about as dismissively as does Clinton, deriding him as "Obambi.' I don't see Dowd as a Silky Pony fan. So who's Maureen's horse in the race? She did write admiringly of Rudy's toughness in a prospective match-up with Hillary. You don't suppose?

And that's it in a nutshell, IMO. HRC is a master of zeroing in on the prey's weakest spot and going for it.
Never forget that she said "You have to deck your opponent."

November 18, 2007 - 08:56 ET by sublight68And where the eventual Republican nominee will benefit from MsM bias is that his weak points will have been exposed and examined ad nauseum throughout the primaries. There won't be anything new for Hillary to latch onto.
Instead, she might be forced to discuss substantive issues and policy positions to differentiate herself in the general election. Her inability to do so convincingly will in turn expose her many weaknesses.
Rudy
November 18, 2007 - 08:35 ET by allanfAs far as I'm concerned Hillary has more testosterone than Obama and Edwards combined. She is the strongest man the Democrats have. Edwards may well spend more on hair, nail and salon appointments than Hillary.
Unfortunately for Hillary, Rudy is not the usual brand of homogenized metrosexual she has dealt with in the past.
Look for he gaggle of MSM synchphants to run lots pieces on Kerik and Rudy's messy divorce if these two are the candidates. I can't wait for the pieces on Hillary's "dream marriage" vs Rudy's hateful kids and messy divorce.
Rudy's Her Biggest Nightmare
November 18, 2007 - 14:20 ET by Del DolemonteRemember, if it wasn't for something called cancer, Rudy would today be the Junior Senator from New York, not her.
And since he was seriously getting ready to run against her in 2000 when he then had to drop out of the race, you can be sure that he and his people had already done plenty of "opposition research" on her.
And I'm sure Rudy has moles unlike any of the other Republican candidates-after all, he was a former US Attorney and also Mayor of a rather large city.

November 18, 2007 - 14:26 ET by JasonCI like to consider myself impervious to political ads - my views on the length to which Campaign Finance Reform should go would make some of your heads explode, I bet - and I really don't like Rudy, but I have to admit that his ad describing his revitalization of NYC is convincing, true, and amazingly, devoid of aggrandizing 9/11 references. I'd still vote for Hillary over him in a New York Minute (pun very much intended), but he's been presenting himself well lately.

I'm not so sure that Dowd
November 18, 2007 - 12:11 ET by dscottI'm not so sure that Dowd is for either one. It sounds to me that she is giving an "unbiased" appraisal of Dem candidates and the most realistic line up after the nomination. I sense a certain dissatifaction over both the Dem candidates in her view. Ironically, I believe there is as much consternation on the left as with the right for a lack of a "pure" candidate they can rally around. Obama is close as it gets to "purity" but the problem as Dowd indicates is he doesn't have the killer instinct necessary to be a winner. Hillary has this killer instinct but she is viewed as so corrupt and self serving as to require brain death to choose her just find the modicum of satisfaction to have a "D" to note the figleaf of success.
Dowd rightly recognizes Rudy as a person with "liberal" tendencies may just be better than Hillary to either hold the line for their agenda or inch it along. For liberals, not the flaming leftists, Rudy presents this knawing intreging compromise that Rudy's liberalism with a competent track record might be a better bet than Hillary's self serving incompetence. Yes, Hillary is a Socialist, but she is also egomaniacal. Remember virtually every decision Bill made was reviewed by Hillary, she was the Co-POTUS for 8 years, Dowd virtually admitted to this by calling her a control freak. Leave it to a lawyer to tie the law into pretzels in order to get what they want, Hillary wants another 8 years of being POTUS, Bill was just a front man, a puppet. If Hillary wins the 2008 elections, she will have been only the 2nd person in history to be POTUS for 4 terms.

November 18, 2007 - 08:47 ET by sublight68If I had to guess, Dowd IS in Obama's camp and this is her way of giving him a kick in the pants.
She asserts that Obama doesn't want to be disliked by Hillary and that might keep him from really taking off the gloves. But what might be even worse for him is to be disliked and marginalized by...Maureen Dowd.
Maybe Dowd is playing the part of a boxing cornerman trying to fire up her bloodied "fighter" with a little reverse psychology and tough love: "Maybe you aren't that good. Maybe they're right and you just don't have it in you to win. C'mon, get out there and prove 'em wrong. Rah, rah."
On a side note, I don't think Obama CAN dust it up with Hillary. I don't think it's a lack of desire, but rather a lack of ability. He just doesn't seem sharp enough to really go one-on-one and score any points against her, not from what I've seen so far anyway.

November 18, 2007 - 11:05 ET by CrashNo doubt the "right-wing attack machine" has claimed yet another victim. Unlike the Clinton smear factory which clearly used power and influence to destroy personal lives (opposed to public lives). The Dems are the first to decry that the patriot act is an invasion of privacy. Privacy of whom, those seeking public office? If the left really wants to see how storm-trooper's use ruffian tactics, well, look no further than the next Clinton Whitehouse. Hillary's making a list, but, she doesn't need to check it twice. Once you've made her shit list she won't waste much time dropping your name to the FBI and the IRS. Maureen had better start praying.

November 18, 2007 - 11:15 ET by Dee BunkK- I- S- S- I- N- G. Isn't it Dowd who thought all women should get down on their knees like Monica to thank Clinton for keeping abortion legal? I get these angry feminists mixed up, but I think it was her who said that.

Fiddle-faddle
November 18, 2007 - 11:32 ET by iveseenitallThis is all fiddle-faddle. Hillary Clinton will be the Dim's candidate. And if she wins the presidency, it will be the greatest of ironies. Just as France and Germany are seeing things correctly, America will have this vicious socialist/communist crook as its "leader" running around the world. This buck-toothed little "B" is as much of an embarrassment to America as Chavevez to Venezuela and Castro to Cuba. And she will be just as much of a dictator as she can get away with. With the help of a Dim Congress, our nation's Pravda, and the ignorant apathy of so many Americans, she'll "change" our country for years to come. This has been decades in the making. Guard your children and grandchildren.

All the scandals, all the lies, all the triangulations, all the liberal detrius is overwhelming my patience. I truly dread the news these days because you know she's going to be there lying and deceiving. The worst angst is that which stems from what we know the reality will be after she wins the presidency. Like Willie before her, the moderate stripes will come off and America will be left in the hands of one of the classic liberals of all time. It's discouraging to think what she will do to America. I think back to 1992 and Ross Perot and all the idiots who voted for him which allowed Willie to usurp the presidency and start the events which have led us to now. Bad dream.

November 18, 2007 - 13:30 ET by JoelCTIt just hit me as I was reading this. If it ends up Dominillary vs. Capo Giuliani, and then Richie Rich Bloomberg decides to run as an independent, do we realize what our choices will be? As a Texan, I am HORRIFIED!
We'll get:
* A Liberal fake New Yorker, versus
* A Liberal RINO New Yorker, versus
* A Liberal rich New Yorker.
What WONDERFUL choices! Can I get a new deck, please? These cards appear to be marked.
Down here we have a picante sauce (that's hot sauce to you Northerners) commercial where some Texas cowboys are sitting around the campfire and one says the cook should offer this picante sauce because it's made in San Antonio, whereas the picante sauce the cook was offering was made in New York City. The cowboys all jump up and scream, "NEW YORK CITY???" and then they shotgun the cook to death or something like that. (I've never seen the end of the commercial myself because I generally black out at the horror of picante sauce made in NYC.)
That's how I feel about the possible 2008 election candidates.

One reason Obama may not be fighting back
November 18, 2007 - 16:14 ET by compmanI think Obama is letting himself get slapped around by Hillary because he has future presidential aspirations. It is because of this, he does not want to turn off other Democrat voters by getting too negative.
Obama is freshman senator and will have many other chances to run for President. If he goes after Hillary too hard, he could be written off by Democratic voters in those future elections.
IMO, he is wrong, bc those same voters will remember him for being weak and not able to fight back when required. (But i'm also Conservative and think alot differently than Liberals do, so I could be wrong!)
