Scarborough's Hillary Sop: 'You've Opened Your Heart Even More'

Photo of Mark Finkelstein.

Even as the words were leaving his mouth, Joe Scarborough acknowledged that he was going to get "killed by conservative bloggers." And being the obliging sorts we are here at NewsBusters . . .

Interviewing Hillary Clinton on today's "Morning Joe," Scarborough's performance was one long paean to her perfection, coupled with a mea culpa for the wrongs that he and other Republicans visited on the Clintons during the '90s.

Excerpts:

  • When you talk about "two Americas," and John Edwards has been talking about two Americas, two Americas, and my Republican friends say, "oh, it's class warfare," I always say tell them: take your kid to an emergency room anywhere in America at 11 o'clock at night, and then tell me there aren't two Americas.
  • How much worse has it gotten since you started fighting for health care reform in 1993?
  • Because I've got a son who's a diabetic, what you were just saying hits home all the time. Where you get denied for prevention, but if you were to go in and get an amputation, or have to have a heart surgery, then they pay for that. It's just false economy.
  • How do you pass health care reform this time, when you failed in 1993, 1994 when [self-deprecating laugh] people like myself ran for Congress talking about socialized medicine, socializing 1/7th of the economy, single-payer health care system. Obviously you've listened, you've learned, we've all learned a lot from just the horrible political wars of the 1990s. What have you learned that's going to help you make this dream of yours a reality in the 21st century?
  • You, dear Senator, are the person who everybody is saying "she's grown, she's learned so much." I hope I've grown a lot, because again, the traumas of the 1990s, which were so horrible for you and your husband, and I would say for America. Talk about how your different person today. Cause, God, I think that everybody who went through that has to be a better person if they inspect what we went through.
  • Some people get angry and embittered. And from talking to you personally and talking to friends who have worked with you in the United States Senate, you seem to have gone in the opposite direction. Instead of becoming angry from all the attacks launched against you in the 1990s, you've actually opened your heart even more. And boy, am I going to get killed by conservative bloggers for saying that. But it's the truth. You seem to be a much different person now than you were in 1993 or 1994.
  • Thank you for having the courage to tackle this battle once again. And we'll see what happens. I think it's gonna have a much happier ending this time than it did in 1994. Good luck.

In return for his adulation, Hillary graced Joe with numerous patronizing head pats of the "great question" and "oh, Joe, I think that's incredibly true" variety.

Clinton even had the audacity to claim that the hardships she's suffered have "made me a little less quick to jump to conclusions, perhaps a little more open to making sure that all sides are heard," and later that "it's kind of hard to be pointing fingers. Instead we should be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work together."

This from the woman who just last week, with her "willing suspension of disbelief" line, effectively called the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq a liar to his face. Predictably, Joe didn't jeopardize the good vibes by raising that -- or any other matter that challenged Clinton in any way.

Aside: Paging Camille Paglia, one of my favorite columnists. I'd love to read her deconstruction of the persona Hillary projected with her look this morning.

MSNBC is So Proud

I'm sure  MSNBC is proud to count Scarborough in the Republican column, so they can refute charges of not being balanced.

As for me, I find it hard to think of him as a Republican.

Its hard for me to think of

Its hard for me to think of him as anything but and idiot.

Look its simple: THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT MAKE ANYTHING. IT REDISTRIBUTES
MONEY.

FREE HEATH CARE IS ONLY FREE FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT PAY TAXES.
THEY GET THE “MONEY THAT THE GOVERNMENT THINKS YOU DON’T DESEIRVE” AND GIVES IT
TO THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(as I hit my key board as hard as I can)

Open her big heart.. give me a break.

Good suggestion! Except,

Good suggestion! Except, why not use the real Hillary (hmm, the real Hillary? Whatever that is!)? It's not like her "husband" would mind.

A liberal persuaded against his will is of the same opinion still.

Once she gets elected, will

Once she gets elected, will we be able to file suit against MSDNC for violations of the (un)Fairness Doctrine?

I really think that questioning others' masculinity is a game probably better left to people who haven't had more cock in and out of them than a Tyson Chicken regional distribution center. AceOfSpades 06162007

Emergency Rooms & 2 Americas?

Oh really.  The only emergency rooms that have two Americas, are those in the confines of the Beltway where the elites are taken care of thru special doors, and the rest of us get on line.  There isn't an emergency room in this country that will turn away any one in need of care and that includes the 47 million unfortunates that Hillerycare is targeting.  Makes me gag.

Every two or four years the

Every two or four years the politicians come around and buy
us with our own money!!!!

It drives me nuts!!!!

Like they are doing something for us.

Here, let me buy you health insurance with your own money.

Let me build that bridge to no where with your own money.

Let me give you poor people X,Y and Z, with “THEIR”.. money.

Its like when politicians totally look out for the renters
in a urban town to get their vote. They screw the landlords, landlords cant
keep up the buildings because of things like rent control. Buildings go down
the town goes down with it.

Its all about power, screw the end result.

They don’t care if you kids, grand kids are still paying for
the entitlements long after they are dead in the grave. Its all about power
(today).

Bush and Gore, fighting over who will give the most money to
the drug act to the elders.

Well in twenty years, will any one remember other then a
drag on our taxes...

The politicians will be dead and gone but that dam
entitlement will last until the end of time!!!!!!

going to get killed ?

I think he'd rather get (virtually) killed on conservative blogs, than to end up in Clinton-Hell with the rest of the poor saps who dared cross swords with the Clinton Machine.

And that's what it all comes

And that's what it all comes down to. If you are viewed as anything but a Clinton apple polisher, she's never going to come on your show. And host who are intellectually dishonest, like Joe, are willing to see out their core beliefs to get ratings.

What happened to Joe?

When he first started at MSNBC he was great - Scarborough Country was a great conservative show. When Jerry Nachman was editor-in-chief of MSNBC, it was a much more balanced network. Ever since Dan Abrams took over, it has become a mouthpiece for the DNC.

"women and minorities hardest hit"

IF We survive a Hillary Presidency....

Folks, look on the bright side. If Hillary does indeed get elected to POTUS (GOD HELP US ALL!) It will be the biggest wake up call the nation needs. America will collectively exclaim W T F ?! then another Reagan will rise. That is unless our present batch of candidates grow a pair.

The American Revolution Continued

Assumptions

You assume that the nation would survive to see another Reagan emerge.

I heard an interesting

I heard an interesting possible scenario on the radio yesterday:

Hillary wins the nomination and then chooses bubba as her running "mate".

She wins the general election and within the first few months resigns making bubba the president again!

Apparantly that would actually be legal!

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

The Mighty Oz

It might be legal, but if Hillary wins this, she will be President in front of the curtain instead of the Mighty Oz behind the curtain last time. No way will she step down for Bill. Hell, the only reason they are still married is because it is in her political best interest to do so.

Jimbo says - "There is a fine line between freedom of speech and treason"

You bring up an interesting point...

It's my opinion that a Hillary Clinton presidency is in violation of the spirit and intent of the 22nd amendment which reads in part:

"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and
no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more
than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall
be elected to the office of the President more than once."

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Embarassing. I've heard of

Embarassing. I've heard of "Tailgunner Joe" but this is "Tailkisser Joe".

And to think when I lived in Pensacola I once voted for him for Congress. I guess I'm partially to blame for his "success".

Wow.

SMG

Ugh.  I make myself

Ugh.  I make myself sick thinking about how I used to be a big fan of his when he was in Congress.

I guess I'll just have to be more discriminating from now on.  Fool me once...

Morning Joe

I've been watching Morning Joe for about a month now.  I like it.  Sure, he goes a little left every now and then, but what is the alternative?  Fox & Friends?  What a joke that show is.

Joe has been at MSNBC too

Joe has been at MSNBC too long and has lost his sanity listening to the liberal talking points. Hard to believe he was once part of the Republican revolution in '94. Has anyone ever done the math on the 47-48 million people supposedly without healthcare? 10-12 are illegals and we shouldn't count them. 8 million are children who are already covered in another government program. 8-10 million are young adults who choose not to get health insurance. That leaves 18-22 million that are still uninsured and we are going spend about $5,500 per person? I think this is a huge mistake on Hillary's part to tout this as a selling point when we didn't want it back in '94. This will eventually kill her chances of becoming president.

A "little" left? ha.

I watched the program from the beginning.  At first, it was a "little" left, but the show has drifted steadily more and more to the left, until we reach today's fawning, sycophantic performance with Hillary.

Now, I seldom last more than a few minutes before becoming disgusted and switching to another channel.

Joe vs F&F?

Any one member of the cast of Fox & Friends is far more conservative than Joe @sskisser could ever hope to be!

I'd watch a million episodes

I'd watch a million episodes of Fox & Friends before I'd watch another minute of this obnoxious turd-fest.  Perhaps the reason Morning Joke has turned so far left is that Scarborough and Clinton have a lot in common...what with the dead associates and all.  A word of caution to the empty-headed nepotism beneficiary, Mika...be afraid, be very afraid.  Scarborough has a history, you know.

So Hsu me...

"...you've actually opened your heart even more."

To make room for all of the illegal campaign contributions from questionable characters.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the video.  Did Joe ask any tough questions such as what is the secret ingredient in herself's chocolate chip cookies that makes them taste so doggone chocolaty?

No end to the sanctimony

Disgusting.

I suspect Joe wet himself with glee midway through.

Joe Scarboro has become MSNBC's morning sycophant schmo.

The new MSNBC morning program is drowning in liberal worshiping obsequiousness with less than 1% of the Iman’s wit and humor. No doubt Joe's panties got wet.

Hillary has Joe in her

Hillary has Joe in her testicle lock box. What is it about this woman that everybody is afraid of her?  I'd like to meet her in a locked room and duke it out, man to man.

Forget 911, I dial 9MM.

Joe

Joe is an ass-kissing opportunist who has lost any principles he might have had .... Puke.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal".

On more than one occasion,

On more than one occasion, Joe Scarborough has criticized the spending habits of recent Republican Congresses.  Now he embraces a major new government program and bureaucracy.

Excellent posts here,

Excellent posts here, everyone. If only there were enough people in this country with the intelligence of NewsBusters' posters so the wicked witch would lose in Nov. '08.

Wow, Joe Scarborogh must be trying for the Clinton suckhole of the year award.  Even calling her "dear Senator".

Mark Finkelstein said, "Predictably, Joe didn't jeopardize the good vibes by raising that -- or any other matter that challenged Clinton in any way." And Bruzilla posted, "And that's what it all comes down to. If you are viewed as anything but a Clinton apple polisher, she's never going to come on your show." Both of you are 100% correct. There's no question that The Dragon Lady never has and never will appear on any show where the host would ask her a challenging question, bring up a scandal of hers or The Great Stainmaker, etc. But there's something beyond this that I wonder and strongly suspect. I don't think Hillary Rodham ever goes on a show without knowing in advance what all of the questions are. In other words, it's not enough for her to simply go on shows that she would feel safe, like Clinton suckhole Larry King's. Because there's always that rare chance that King, Maher, Scarborough, Lauer, Ellen Degenerate, etc. could slip in a (at least semi) challenging question. And she just cannot take that risk. Other Dems have been willing to make fools of themselves and show their utter lack of substance and total hypocricy and fraud. But with the Hildabeast, everything is calculated (notice whenever something big happens it's often at least 2 or 3 days before she publicly gives her "response" or "take"). So I really think it's very likely that any time she does an interview, she knows not only that the questions will be softballs, but knows the exact questions themselves and has prepared replies to all of them. What does everyone else here think about that?

Hmmm, here's a scary thought. Remember during the first Clinton "presidency" how some were concerned that in view of his lust for power and extreme corruption that he just might attempt to change the Constitution to allow him to run for a third term? Of course he didn't end up doing this. But ..... would HiLIARy try such a thing for 2016?

But like Sergeant ROCK posted, that would assume we'd be able to survive eight years of her to even see a 2016 election!
