As wacky theories go, it might not be quite up there with the stuff the "steel doesn't melt" truthies put out. But the Associated Press's Tom Raum has had a stunning little meltdown of his own.
In an "analysis" piece the AP put out today, "After 4 years of errors, Bush definition of ‘victory’ in Iraq is far more modest," Raum flatly states:
Bush’s decision to wage a vendetta against Saddam Hussein as retribution for the Sept. 11 attacks — six years ago Tuesday — led to many miscalculations and mistakes.
And what evidence does Raum offer in support of his astonishing theory that the Iraq war was Pres. Bush's "vendetta" against Saddam "for the Sept. 11 attacks"? Uh, Tom will have to get back to us on that . . .
Remember, this wasn't one of those Code Pink ladies pulled out of the hearings today who wrote this. Nor was it plucked from a particularly fevered Daily Kos diary. No, this was published by the Associated Press and written by someone who has covered foreign affairs for them since 1973.
More MSM it's hard to get. Yikes.

AP vendetta - is more like it.
Mon, 09/10/2007 - 18:39 ET by Gary HallAP vendetta - is more like it.
Yikes.
Mark. President Bush has often stated for the record, in response to reporters who like Tom Raum who are on a vendetta to distort the record, that he had never directly associated Saddam with the 9/11 attacks. His administration has also been clear on this as well.
The administration would be wise to have staff put together the record here, invite Mr. Raum to a White House press briefing, read the record to him, and then invite him to respond.
It's a mystery to me - it's a mystery. (;~>
I doubt it would do any
Mon, 09/10/2007 - 18:59 ET by general companyI doubt it would do any good, I am sure he is well aware of the false accusation he stated, he is preaching to the choir to rally the masses. The truth is irrelevant to these folks
That's how they "feel"
Mon, 09/10/2007 - 19:31 ET by SportPoliticsthe American public was made to "feel", and it's how Bush "lied us into" this war, and they can "stop it" like they stopped "Vietnam" if they just convince enough people they were "bamboozled".
Next week it will be the war that Bush started because he "doesn't hate his daddy" like all good liberals should. It's Bush's "feelings" that got hurt when Saddam tried to kill daddy, so Bush was "enraged to war" for "revenge".
This is wrong for 3 reasons for the libs - you're supposed to hate your daddy, and you're never supposed to punish someone that goes after a war mongering republican nazi - that's revenge, and Saddam had every right to go after 41 - he destroyed Iraq and murdered "Saddam's people".
Reason Bush went to
Mon, 09/10/2007 - 19:29 ET by TruthMongerReason Bush went to war:
1. Backing the consequences of violated UN resolutions
Lying Dems reasons (ad nauseum):
1. Oil/Haliburton/Military Industrial Complex
2. 9/11 WOT
3. WMD lies
4. Re-election as a "war-time" president
5. Bush is like Hitler bent on global domination
6. Any other possible fabrications EXCEPT THE TRUTH
Did I miss anything...?

Mon, 09/10/2007 - 19:41 ET by Gary HallYes, but it would sure make for a more interesting press conference - and perhaps produce some long past due settling out on the issue..
never going to happen.

Mon, 09/10/2007 - 19:45 ET by SportPolitics" A third of Americans — or 33 percent — said they think Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to a CBS News-New York Times poll released on Monday. Fifty-eight percent said he was not, and 9 percent said they did not know."

Current war a follow up to Gulf War
Mon, 09/10/2007 - 20:33 ET by nkviking75At the end of the first Gulf War Saddam was obligated under the truce to either produce the WMD's for destruction or destroy them himself and provide proof. He did neither. It was Clinton's responsibility to hold him accountable for that obligation. Clinton ignored it. The United Nations inspectors managed to be hoodwinked for more than a decade. Of course, since a lot of UN officials were on the take, it probably wasn't too hard to fool them. Iraqi Freedom is the enforcement action that should have been taken several years sooner. It should have been done without warning. It amazes me that the world knows Saddam had (and used!) WMD's, but no one seems concerned about what happened to them.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
So?
Tue, 09/11/2007 - 09:44 ET by mattmSo what if it was? Do they not think that 9/11 was a vendetta? Or that Saddam wouldn't have destroyed America if he could have?
There are three major threats to humanity in the world today: Islamofascists, Democrats and their media allies.
Vendetta ?
