Anyone who follows the MSM knows that Cuba is a virtual paradise. A land of free health care, universal literacy and low infant-mortality rates where, as Andrea Mitchell has explained to us, kids don't care about freedom and the only big problems are those caused by the U.S. Yes, Cuba is the sort of place no one would ever want to leave. Certainly not to go to live in the United States, where, as everyone knows thanks to Michael Moore's "Sicko," health care is so bad that 9-11 heroes are forced to seek help from Havana.
And yet . . .
According to AP: Defection fears to keep Cuban boxers at home
Cuba won't send a boxing team to the world championships in Chicago, heeding Fidel Castro's fears about future defections after two fighters abandoned their teammates during the Pan American Games.
"We will not expose anew a Cuban boxing team to the abuses and provocations that in this case will be present in Chicago, American territory, the perfect location for marketers and traffickers to act freely and with the total complicity of U.S. authorities," the Cuban Boxing Federation said Wednesday.
"Abuses and provocations." Commie-speak for the lure of freedom and opportunity.
Wonder how the MSM will explain this one away?

There is no news coming out
August 29, 2007 - 13:54 ET by Senior ChiefThere is no news coming out of Cuba, except when Moore recommends Cuban-style health care.
Really, to the minds of Cuban athletes, sports are their ticket out of that land- whether legally or illegally migrating. Ask those professional baseball players who did just that- Defection...or they can start swimming, hoping that our Coast Guard take them to a friendly shore.

If a free one-way ticket to the U.S. were given to the 6 billion people that live outside the U.S., how many of them would be used? I would guess at least 4 billion of them would be used.
Mexicans illegally cross our border in droves to come here for a better life.
Cubans/Haitians/Dominicans set out in the shark infested waters of the Carribean on small boats and rafts in hope of making it to American soil.
Millions or even billions of other people would resort to similar tactics if they were in a geographical position to do so.
And yet, the left and the media are still in denial about the greatness of the United States

August 29, 2007 - 20:51 ET by UnsaneContrast that to the early 1960s, when NBC bankrolled a tunneling operation under the Berlin Wall. Amazing, isn't it? Guess no one told them that the Wall was constructed NOT to keep Westerners from joining the "Worker's and Peasant's State in droves, but to keep the Easterners from heading west!

August 30, 2007 - 16:53 ET by MikeBUnsane, I was thinking of the Berlin wall as I read the article. For that matter, the entire Iron Curtain complex of barbed wire fences, mine fields, and armed lookout towers were in place to keep people from fleeing the worker's paradise of the Soviet Union and other communist countries. Today we (the U.S.) really need these barriers to stop uncontrolled immigration (not emigration).

The truth about a country

It doesn't require spin, just observation.
Are they trying to leave? Or are they trying to get in? Seems to me that says a lot about a place.
