Aren't the MSM and the Dems the "let every vote count" clan? But when the Dems snuff out a GOP win on the House floor in a manner that would send the New York Times into the mother of all snits were the shoe on the other foot, the Gray Lady camouflages the facts, and even manages to place blame on the Republicans.
Take the headline from the Times' story on the way in which the Democrat wielding the gavel somehow transformed a 215-213 Republican win into a 214-214 tie resulting in the motion failing: "Partisan Anger Stalls Congress in Final Push." The Times neatly switches the focus away from the Dems' theft of the vote, and onto those angry old Republicans, who are letting their anger stand in the way of progress. To that end, the article worked in a quote from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) [file photo]: “Their party has been hijacked by people who don’t really have an agenda but to stop progress.”
What's more, the Times never bothered to divulge what the vote was about. The article merely refers to the GOP motion as "a plan to revise the agricultural bill." Big deal, right? Not so fast. What the Times didn't reveal was that the motion in question would have barred undocumented immigrants from receiving any federal funds apportioned in the agricultural spending bill for employment or rental assistance. That's right: the Dems resorted to this profoundly undemocratic chicanery in order to preserve . . . welfare for illegals.
No wonder the Times didn't want its readers to know.

Duct Tape Alert!!!

For when your head is sure to explode!
Hasn't everyone learned by now? "Bipartisanship" means everyone does what the Democrats want.
No one is surprised at this from the NYT...when Bill Clinton refused to sign the Republican Congress's budget, they claimed that Congress had shut the government down.
A letter to Congress
August 4, 2007 - 11:30 ET by misterbillI sent this to my Congressman today---
(and to the Atlanta Constitution)
An Open Letter to the Congress of the United States of America
Senators and Representatives,
I am a 74 year old, retired American veteran. I was a member of the military during the Korean Conflict. I have followed the actions of the legislative branch of this country since I started voting 56 years ago. I am writing to tell you how ashamed I am of all of you. In particular, the recent action of members of the Democratic Party, in the House, to alter a vote to meet their wishes was, in my opinion, the highest criminal act that public officials could commit. The action of the Republicans to leave the floor was unwise. There is no body of government high enough to chastise you, save the voting public.
The partisan quarrels and spats are unfair to those who voted for you. We have many issues confronting us, but the two major issues are the War on Terror and immigration issues. One (Iraq) is divisive; the other (illegal immigration) is destructive. If we leave Iraq, civil war will run amok and extremists will take over and thousands will die. America will be laughed at (justifiably), in the world. Our sons and daughters are risking their lives every day for us. They (and I) believe that what they are doing is right and just. These troops deserve complete support from all members of Congress.
The second issue, immigration, will not result in the world laughing at us; it will result in the destruction of the greatest republic that has ever existed. I cannot believe that members of the Congress strive to give away the benefits of living in this country for the advantage of cheap labor. I also believe that one party is seeking to import people they believe will join their party, so that they can remain in power. Is this American? Is this patriotic? This is unfair. This is not the American way!
I am in favor of immigration. It is what has continued to make us great. Legal immigration is the backbone of the great American melting pot. You, in Congress are defying this American strength to satisfy your own desires, not America’s.
In closing, I will say that the greatest enemy, I, personally have ever faced, is the Congress of the United States. They are the only ones with the power to destroy us. As I go through the latter part of my life, it is with a heavy heart, as I see my beloved country being torn apart by those we trusted most by our votes.
The Republicans who cried shame the other night were correct. It should be “Shame on both parties”. I charge you to fulfill your duties. Serve America, protect her! Save her for our descendants.

Well said, MrBill
August 4, 2007 - 11:40 ET by ThisnThatI am glad you sent this off. As Hannity would say, you're a great American.
I would be very interested to see whether you get a form letter back; nothing back; or a personal letter addressing your points.
BTW, when I send off comments to Gregg and Sununu (New Hampshire), I often see that they address my comments directly. Sometimes, they do it in a several page letter. However, we have a freshman Democrat in Congress, and she never, ever answers my mail. Perhaps that's because I disagree with her all the time. But that's no excuse, because I also disagree with the other two -- and they have the curtesy to explain their differences with me.
Keep it up. America deserves active participation.
TnT-- many thanks--
August 4, 2007 - 11:50 ET by misterbillAs you most probably know, I am a fan of our military. I always was and always will be.
I am a good American. Your Dad's tour of duty in three of our wars defines him as a great American. I am also sentimentally sad at the passing of All the WW2 veterans. Soon there will be none left. The young folks in America are lsing a great source of true hsitory reporting. I am a member of a USN ship's association, the USS Wisconsin. My own group (Korea) is getting to the age where we are passing on too.
Almost every day, I think about those great patriots (my Dad and brother among them) who fought and protected me and gave me the opportunity to grow up in a free America and enjoy all of its wonderful benefits. I know you feel the same.

I sent letters to both Senator Casey and Senator Specter (Pennsylvania is doubly blessed!!) berating them, and in return got letters in which they bragged about doing the very things I had lambasted them for! These people don't even read their mail, I swear!
Well said, as always, misterbill.

The NYT shows their partisanship again
August 4, 2007 - 12:20 ET by c5thenNot reporting the facts of the administrative sleight-of-hand is covering the crime up, plain and simple. The democrats in the house are guilty of stealing a vote and in my opinion have violated their oath of office as a result. The NYT is a willing and even eager participant in the attempted obfuscation of this crime and therefore a co-conspirator. The districts of all the House leadership should immediately start circulating petitions for the recall of their incumbents for failure to adhere to their oaths of office. Obviously the ethics committee will do nothing since it is controled by the very people who conspired to steal the vote.
I blame BOTH parties for this travesty because the republicans started down this path where the 51% majority takes absolute tyrannical control over the 49% minority. This is anethema to the principles that this country was founded upon. As a result of this extreme partisanship, this country will now be forced to pay hundreds of millions toward the financial support of people that are in this country illegally.
Our government is no longer (for quite a while now) beholden to or serves "The People" but has been hijacked by various groups that have ideological agendas and will do anything to get their ideas enacted in laws and policy. We, the voters, the people, must decide that enough is enough and take back control of our government soon, before the only viable option becomes armed revolution. If the voters choose to send a message and kick-out virtually every incumbent in the next two election cycles, they may get the message. But that is not enough, because the system will simply corrupt the newcomers. We need complete campaign finance overhaul that gives the power back to the voters and takes it away from the PACs and lobbyests and the national parties.
1) No contribution to any political campaign from any entity which cannot cast a vote in that particular election.
2) Complete and full disclosure of all donations to all campaigns within 24 hours - no limits
3) Complete revocation of all the laws and regulations that control PACs and 503 organizatons(?). Remove from them their tax-free status. Any organization is allowed to be formed, but it can not have tax free status, or (per rule #1 above) make any contributions to any campaign.

I can't stand Arnold Swarzenegger-Shriver (I know I've probably spelled his name wrong, but I don't care enough to learn to spell it properly), but I held my nose and voted for him again in 2006. The reason: if the socialist idiot Phil Angelides got elected, he would sign every kooky socialist bill brought to him by the state senate and the assembly. At least with Arnold, there would be a possibility that he'd veto at least some of those bills.
This is why we need to keep getting Republicans elected to Congress. Even if we don't like some of them, they're certainly better than the alternative. The more Republicans we have in Congress, the more we can stop what Stretch Pelosi calls "progress". Anything that makes that human botox injection happy must be stopped. And did you notice how she got that word "hijacked" into her tantrum? Leave it to a liberal shrew like Pelosi to try and equate stopping a socialist welfare provision in a House bill to terrorism.
I watched this outrage on CSPAN
August 4, 2007 - 12:25 ET by RJI watched this outrage on CSPAN and posted on the open thread yesterday about the Democrats' blatant theft of our democratic process.
Thanks, Mark, for showing once again how the New York Times deliberately lies to readers about what the Dems are doing in Congress.
Mark. LA Times shrills for the D's also
August 4, 2007 - 12:27 ET by Gary HallMark. LA Times shrills for the Democrats also.
Their front page headline story is titled Congress in chaos before recess - As Democrats scramble to pass key legislation (oh, bless them) ....Republicans walk out. The on-line version is titled differently - Partisan tensions boil over in Congress.
The entire piece, which is written and supported by a host of the LA Times' finest, from the very beginning skips the issue of what happened, instead bringing the reader through the wondrous tasks the Democrats were leading on; clean energy, funding spying (wow - what a shift?), and funding the defense department.
Then a little shift to introduce the underlying problem; that tensions exist - because of the Republicans, last year -- The Excuse.
Then, were back to that the D's took over last year, and "..the Democrats have succeeded in raising the minimum wage, passing new ethics rules and enacting long-delayed recommendations of the 9/11 commission.."
And finally they are actually going to talk about what happened; but first, let's introduce the ground rules:
Finally in paragraph 18, we.. we what? I've read it ten times, and for the life of me, unless you know what occurred - that the vote was stopped before it's time - the reader is not actually going to find out.
The vote is tied. Members are scrambling to change their vote the gavel comes down. And, "Furious Republicans erupted in boos and chants of "Shame!" The GOP moved to adjourn. Most then stormed out of the chamber in protest."
Something is missing here; the simple reporting of the fact that the Democrats goofed and the votes were not all counted.
Oh, but they are so sorry for the way it was handled.

Exclusive Breaking Story to Newsbusters
August 4, 2007 - 12:48 ET by Lame CherryThis ties into the chaos the Democrats in Congress are facing as their own wacko bloggers are finally getting the point they have been lied to by the DNC.
Hoyer had to steal this vote for Pelosi as they could not be seen loosing another majority vote. The DNC is fractured into the Murtha nuts, the Hoyer leftists and the pretender Blue Dogs. The DNC can not get anything done as they know their promised policies are a disaster for America.
The Pelosi has hit the fan.
What I want people to NOTICE IS A TREND I HAVE SEEN ON HUFFINGTON which is new the past days.
The liberal bloggers there are FINALLY GETTING THE POINT THEY HAVE BEEN MANIPULATED.
They are facing huge spying bills by Reid and Pelosi.
They are facing Murtha pigging out for 150 million in pork projects.
They are dealing with the DNC voting to stay in Iraq.
Then they have Hillary stating she wants to nuke Muslims and Obama wants to invade US ally Pakistan.
This is beyond even what the liberal bloggers can fathom now. They are in stunned shock. Now these are the bloggers in the Minnesota bridge who were screaming days ago in foul language and rants, but now are just writing in one line sentences. One I think sums it all up from a WTFbush who said he is going to change his name to just WTF.
They are getting it and I wanted to alert people a big back lash appears brewing against the DNC which means Hillary and Obama. When these hate filled bloggers get out of the stunned mode and start figuring out they were used and betrayed.....they are going to bring down the DNC and might just vote for a Republican in spite.
This is brewing and their discontent depending on what prodding they get from Pelosi should start boiling over some time in September.
It is amazing to sit in that chaldron and type away the facts of Hillary and Obama are beyond what they hated Bush for and see it dawning on them.
Fellow bloggers I suggest you start pointing the facts out to them because a little fan of this flame will save America from either the Soviet Clintonia or Obama Learning in Progress.
No one has spotted this coming and it and I posted it here as a breaking story first. This is an exclusive to Newsbusters.

Doesn't this eerily sound like the stuff in communist concentration camps. Read Dr. Zhivago or the Gulag Archipeligo. Most of the "criminals" were only there for not being "progressive" enough.
And this isn't the first time I've heard the Dems levy this complaint.

August 4, 2007 - 20:37 ET by sembyYou know it's time for someone to take on the wicked witch of the west, Pelosi.
She lies, distorts and panders to the radical left of her party. She is a pathetic excuse of a congresswoman and it's so pathetic that she is more in line with Stalin than with anything to do with democracy.
She is a witch who should be contended with and should be exposed for the irresponsible danger she poses to this very nation!
