Who says the MSM only report bad news? An online ABC News story reports that emigration from the US to Canada has increased dramatically . . . and that the departees are largely liberals. Hollywood stars never get around to making good on their promises to leave. But many everyday liberal folks are apparently carrying through on their plans.
According to the article:
- The number of U.S. citizens who moved to Canada last year hit a 30-year high, with a 20 percent increase over the previous year and almost double the number who moved in 2000.
- The current increase is fueled largely by social and political reasons, says [Jack Jedwab of the Association for Canadian Studies.]
- "Those who are coming have the highest level of education — these aren't people who can't get a job in the states," he explains. "They're coming because many of them don't like the politics, the Iraq War and the security situation in the U.S. By comparison, Canada is a tension-free place. People feel safer."
- Tom Kertes, a 34-year-old labor organizer who moved from Seattle to Toronto in Aprilbecause of President Bush's opposition to gay marriage, and the tactics employed during the war on terror since 9/11. "My mother is thinking about it. My stepfather has diabetes and has health issues. So, he'd be taken care of for free if he moved up here." [Say, I wonder if the US could attract more immigrants if we provided "free" healthcare?]
- Jo Davenport, who wrote "The Canadian Way," moved from Atlanta to Nova Scotia in December 2001. She also cites political reasons for her move, saying that she disagreed with the Bush administration's decisions after 9/11. "Things are totally different here because they care about their people here," she says, explaining that she's only been back home once or twice.

"He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken.
When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to

You've all heard the rest of the joke many times. It's all over the Internet if you haven't read it. If ABC had taken the time (the official government compiled numbers are readily available on the Internet) the immigration/emigration ratio between Canada and the United States in 2005 (the most recent year available) was at the highest level (of people moving from Canada to the United States than in the other direction) since the Great Depression. The article is pure feel good page filler material for people both left and right. There's something good in it for everyone.
Still, the net immigration to the United States continues to be the highest per capita in the world. And that's just the legal immigrants. In EVERY country ever polled, when people are asked where they would most like to move to, the United States is always the number one answer by a wide margin. The fence we can't seem to figure out how to build on our southern border is not meant to keep Americans in!
Of the "highly educated" Canadians moving south, guess what occupation has been number one for years? Correct! Doctors. If you do plan to move north, be sure to get yourself on the list to get on the list to obtain a health card to become eligible to get on the list to receive health care before you actually move (allow the rest of your life plus three years). 40% lower standard of living, twice the rate of unemployment and a HIGHER countrywide crime rate (look it up!). We just think of our inner cities when thinking of crime. Add in all of America compared to all of Canada and we have a LOWER crime rate. BTW -- that's only been since the passage ofCanada's draconian anti-gun laws and our right-to-carry laws now in effect in most states. Canada DID have a much lower crime rate until they disarmed law-abiding citizens ("thank you, Canada!" -- signed: every armed criminal). But, now, just as in the U.K. which has had the same "unexpected" results, most home burglaries are now armed robberies and occur when the homeowner is home (to point out their valuables - duh!). How about burglaries in the United States (at least in areas where private gun ownership is legal and common)? Seven percent! Just seven percent occur while the homeowner is home (86% in the U.K. and still climbing). What!!?? Encounter some homeowner armed with a 12-gauge? Most criminals are dumb but they aren't THAT dumb!
I suspect if the individuals moving both directions were compared, it would be clear we are very much getting the better end of the deal.
Move north then have to rush to Detroit for a life-saving operation denied you in Canada and, when you wake up still alive after surgery, your surgeon greets you with "eh?" As they say, "reality is FUNNIER than fiction".

I'm not sure, but I'll bet you were that idiot I got stuck behind that hot August afternoon on I-285 way back in 2000, just a few miles east of I-75 and my escape home, whose smoking old beat-to-hell Volvo 240 threw up a rock and put a hole in the a/c condenser of my Maxima, promptly rendering same inoperative.

August 3, 2007 - 20:27 ET by LeonBlonde,

Riiiiiiggghtt....because
August 3, 2007 - 20:31 ET by BlondeRiiiiiiggghtt....because you say so, Leon.
I am so not buying this line of idiocy.
A labor organizer....Leon. Where on earth did you spin that into mathematicians & scientists?
Are you reading deficient tonite? Apparently.
My comment had nothing to do
August 3, 2007 - 20:37 ET by LeonMy comment had nothing to do with the article's main characters. Didn't even read it. I was replying to the headline. Nothing deeper. It was a softball joke. Couldn't resist. Come on, lighten up, it's Friday!
