Amidst all the MSM analysis of the dust-up between Hillary and Obama over his statement at the CNN/YouTube debate that he would commit to meet with the world's worst dictators in his first year in office, I haven't noticed anyone observing the obvious: that with her statement on the subject, Hillary has made it very problematic for herself to name Obama as her VP running-mate. To see why this is true, consider the kind of ad that the Republican candidate would inevitably run if Hillary were to tap Obama for the Veep spot . . .
As images of terrorism play across the screen, a dead-serious voiceover intones: "Terrorism. It could threaten the very survival of our country. Dealing with the dictators who threaten our nation might be the most important matter confronting our next president. Hillary Clinton says Barack Obama is "naive and irresponsible" when it comes to that. What does it say about Hillary Clinton that she wants him to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?"
For that matter, Hillary's criticism so fundamentally discounts Obama's credentials to serve as president or VP that you almost have to think that her camp has concluded that under no circumstances would he be the running mate.
Let's monitor the MSM. Kudos to the first poster who finds an instance of the MSM connecting the dots . . .

July 25, 2007 - 20:50 ET by Chris NormanMark, actually that was supposed to be a joke. The kind of slippery line the Clintons might use. Come to think, it wasn't really a joke, was it? It's kind of funny, how these people can savage each other and by the convention, all the criticisms are supposed to be forgotten and no longer applicable. By the way, it would be devastating - if the Republican candidate's campaign is smart - and tough - enough to use it. Sometimes, I despair.

Never forget this about Obama
July 25, 2007 - 20:52 ET by Mike BrattonBarack Hussein Obama is the world's quickest study. A couple of terms in the Illinois legislature, one speech at the DNC, and a couple of years in the U.S. Senate and he's qualified to run the free world--or at least be a heartbeat away.
As soon as Hillary says so.

I share my office with a liberal hippie from the 60's, she thinks that Obama is the second coming of JFK. I asked her what qualifies him to be President...I kid you not she said it was his Harvard education. I just rolled my eyes and kept working.

Try asking her what Barack Hussein Obama believes in. Right now, that is--some things will change if Hillary gives him the high sign.

Bill as VP?
July 26, 2007 - 06:15 ET by ThisnThatPaw - I think you might be on to something here. Think about it -- what's to prevent her from nominating Bill as VP? And wouldn't the Dims love it? And if the Dims love it, the MSM will also roll with the idea. Then, if any Repubs point out that this is nepotism, Hillery and her gang will claim victimhood, and garner even more sympathy. Really, there's no downside to her doing this.
I disagree.
July 26, 2007 - 06:24 ET by sarcasmoI disagree. Strategically, the Democrats' downside if they tried this would be a more motivated Republican base than even Hillary alone would bring, so they won't do it, any more than the (serious/non-Kucinich) Democrats will undertake any impeachment effort. Hillary's probably courting Richardson as a VP anyway, if my guess is right considering her recent tiff with Obama combined with Richardson's experience-factor commerical (which, I must admit, is rather slick & well-done).

July 26, 2007 - 06:38 ET by sarcasmoI believe it's possible in theory, because there'd be no consecutive terms problems if Bill were to become President (or intern-problems anymore, either! WooHoo!!!). But it's not what they're going to do or doing. Of course, if she gets elected, Bill would no-doubt have a huge advisory role as "First Man," possibly bigger than whatever bucket of spit VP she picks, but saying anything like that to you is a mistake they're simply not gonna make, IMO.

July 26, 2007 - 07:45 ET by Hero Squad22nd Amendment
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
As I would understand it, that means B. Clinton could be the VP, and could ascend to the presidency, but could not run for re-election.

July 25, 2007 - 23:27 ET by maggieqpublicI think Wesley Clark will be Hillary’s running mate. It will be “comforting” to the American people to have a member of the armed forces on the ballot as they contemplate electing the first female American president (and during a time of war). Obama will need to win the nomination to be on the November 2008 ballot…. at least that’s what I think.

Hillary and Barry
July 26, 2007 - 10:07 ET by River CityHillary will never pick Barry as her running mate. My reasoning is because he will take too much of the attention away from her. He is a rising star in is own right and she in no way wants to share the spotlight with anyone. She is ascending to what she sees as her birthright. She has work her butt off her whole professional life and put up with Bill's crap to get here and she isn't going to share it with some up and coming "Magic Negro" to prep him to be her back up or replacement. No way, no how.
The theory about Bill being a potential VP is a good one but I doubt they will do it, same sharing the spot light issue. Wesley Clark is a good one too but I think she sees herself and the strong military person in her campaign. Bill Richardson has potential as a VP pick because of his hispanic creds and previous Clinton loyalties and also because of the Southwest pull he can bring.
Wasn't George Bush Sr. running for president the same time as Reagan? Isn't that when he made his voodoo economics comment? Could be wrong. I'm sure one of you has a better memory than I do.
