Johnny Dollar over at Olbermann Watch compiled a list of the orange-tinted “Countdown” host's Top Ten Lies of 2007 (h/t Conservathink).
Between doctoring quotes, misrepresenting TV ratings, obsessing over Michelle Malkin's ethnicity and crushing on Bill O'Reilly, the TV host who self-anointed himself as Edward R. Murrow's heir let loose with some tall tales.
While lie number one is my favorite (go read it), some of 2007's lying lowlights include Keith claiming Rosie O'Donnell never compared US troops to terrorists, stating Fox News' Roger Ailes is running Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign or just lying about O'Reilly and News. Here's a little sample (bold mine):
#5 - ... But our #5 entry shows Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann at his most desperate. So eager was he to protect a possible NBC hire (Rosie O'Donnell) he doctored her words (sound familiar?) to claim she never compared US troops to terrorists.
Story Continues Below Ad ↓Then he blamed "Fox Noise"--another lie to protect his own sorry butt, since the people who accused Rosie of the troops/terrorism comparison were Joe Scarborough, Chris Matthews, and Howard Fineman--not on Fox, but on MSNBC!
#3 - When Oralmann gets a bee in his bonnet, there is nothing that will stand in the way of OlbySpin. So he will pretend Richard Armitage never existed and assert that Karl Rove was an "original leaker" of Valerie Plame. To attack GWB, he'll invent a nonexistent checklist of rules for Presidential pardons. But his blatant dishonesty about waterboarding is our #3 lie. Olby's duplicity about Daniel Levin was so shamelessly barefaced that even the fawning mainstream media called him on it, something that gave John Gibson no end of pleasure.
For #2 on the list, Olbermann--from the safety of his plush anchor chair--dismissed the two Iraqis who blog at the award-winning Iraq The Model as just some “anonymous Iraqi bloggers” as a way to bash Bush. Nice.
Keith tried to make Omar and Mohammed seem like unreasonable sources because they are “two dentists.” In a classy move, Olbermann ridiculed their opinions as unimportant while trying to make Bush look uninformed for quoting those two lowly Iraqi bloggers. Better alert CAIR, that seems rather Orientalist to me. As usual, he misrepresented someone's words to score political points:
#2 - Did you know that Keith Olbermann doesn't indulge in personal attacks? Why no, he's above all that. Sure, tell that to Liz Claman. In #2 of our countdown, observe how Fat A**, to fuel yet another error-ridden critique of GWB, is willing to smear two writers: ridicule their professions, lie about their success... There can be no doubt that Keith Olbermann is The Model of a Liar.
Go to Olbermann Watch to read about the truly astounding number one!

I did check out the #5 one.
January 1, 2008 - 19:27 ET by motherbeltI did check out the #5 one. Olbermann says O'Donnell asked "Who is the terrorist?" (singular) meaning President Bush, but Fox Noise turned it into an attack on the troops. Olbermann watch posts a video which jumps around but ends up with Joe Scarborough showing the original video where Rosie says to Hasselbeck; 650,000 people are dead in Iraq..."Who are the terrorists?" (plural) which Hasslebeck repeats back at her.
Not that I distrusted OW, but I wanted to make sure something wasn't garbled, thus open to interpretation. But Rosie the O's words are crystal clear.
I have to quibble with Olbermann Watch...I think 1 and 2 are a dead heat. The list of insults is great, and I love how, after he makes the claim that got the #1 spot..."I'm just right."
Oh, my.
Number one and two are
January 1, 2008 - 20:50 ET by Lynn DavidsonNumber one and two are pretty close, aren't they? I think either could have arguably been number one, but Olbermann claiming he isn't politically biased just takes the cake.
There's nothing wrong with investigating a website's claim on your own (even at NewsBusters!). That way you can judge for yourself.
Thanks for the posting,
January 1, 2008 - 23:37 ET by motherbeltThanks for the posting, Lynn. The other thing I didn't mention was that Hasselbeck kept asking Rosie if she was calling "us" terrorists, and Rosie did not have the guts to come out and say it...she kept saying we invaded, yada yada yada, "what would YOU call us?" She did not have the guts to come out and say, Yes, I think we are terrorists.
I hate it when cowardly people do that. They want to make the insinuation but don't want to take the responsibility.
How can Roger Goodell and the NFL associate with Olberman
January 1, 2008 - 19:39 ET by Lame CherryIn listening to the endless drama of Keeter Olberman, I thank Ms. Davidson for this latest post as I honestly believe Olberman is insane now.
What astonishes me is the NFL allows NBC to have this goof on Sunday Night Football which is a reflection on the NFL. Perhaps since Goodell buckled to Congressional pressure, he might be reviewing just what image the NFL wants to be linked to as Olberman honestly is starting to make Moveon.org and Capitol Hill Blue sound normal. That is quite a feat.

January 1, 2008 - 21:50 ET by KStormKeith Olbermann is the only reason I hope for perennial losing seasons by my favorite NFL team, the Detroit Lions. For if they win, they risk being on Sunday Night Football along with that sonofabitch Olbermann.
#3 is delicious
January 1, 2008 - 20:52 ET by LighthouseJOlbermann's gradiose pretentiousness was particularly delicious in the third item to me.
I'm surprised on a daily basis at how willing elitist liberals cry at made up conservative conspiracies but turn the cheek when their favorite phoney maliciously lies to advance a personal agenda.

So much pomposity, so little time....
Does Keith know what's
January 1, 2008 - 21:03 ET by GregEDoes Keith know what's torture? I just watched his rant on waterboarding. That rant was torture! I've been Olberbored'ed!
2,976 deaths on 9/11. How many lives have since been saved due to waterboarding? And how many will be lost when the next major terrorist planner cannot be waterboarded? Waterboarding makes one assume he's going to die. Ok, in the case of Islamic radical moron terrorists, works for me.
Have you seen the Gibson
January 1, 2008 - 21:08 ET by LighthouseJHave you seen the Gibson video of his radio show where he destroys Olbermann? Gibson said we've only waterboarded 3 people, does anyone know if that's true? Many more people have died since the current Iraq War of choking on pretezels and nobody has had permanent injury because of waterboarding that I know of.
To me, the liberals are too concerned about harmless interrogation tactics and not concerned enough over those murderous pretzel manufacturers.

Yep, listening to it right
January 1, 2008 - 21:30 ET by GregEYep, listening to it right now. As far as only three being waterboarded, that's what reports have said for some time now, so that's not Gibson saying it for the first time.
Abu Zubaydah, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, and I can't remember the third.

January 1, 2008 - 21:21 ET by SMGalbraithOlby's duplicity about Daniel Levin was so shamelessly barefaced that even the fawning mainstream media called him on it, something that gave John Gibson no end of pleasure.
It's interesting that MSNBC national correspondent David Shuster made the same false claim that MSNBC news anchor Keith Olbermann falsely made re what Levin said about waterboarding. It was in an exchange with Scarborough less than a month ago.
To his credit, Scarborough caught the false claim made by Shuster. Unfortunately, since Olbermann only allows people on the show who agree with him, no one was there to challenge the fraud, er, fraudulent statement.
Lots of fraudulent items cited in that above paragraphs. The italics are a hint for some of them.

January 1, 2008 - 21:28 ET by Jack BauerGibbo Rocks... on his radio show. Thanks for the h/t, must check out his show in its entirety.
He looks very uncomfortable now he has a "co-host" on his Fox show.
Heather looks about as welcome as a fart in an elevator.
I guess they think no show
January 1, 2008 - 23:30 ET by motherbeltI guess they think no show is complete without an attractive lady on the set. Next they'll be pushing "small talk" between them....and we'll have the political version of "Regis and Kelly."
It just goes to prove two
January 2, 2008 - 00:11 ET by Gary P JacksonIt just goes to prove two people can watch the same thing, and take away something totally different!
Wasn't sure how The Big Story would work, but to me John and Heather work well together. Their abilities compliment each other during the show, and when Heather reads the letters at the end, she has no problem taking the nimrods to task. I like the new format anyway!
gary -- oh sure, John is
January 2, 2008 - 06:14 ET by Jack Bauergary -- oh sure, John is very professional, a gentleman, and isn't overtly hostile. But I just get the impression it wasn't his idea, and his wings are clipped.
It'd be like O'Reilly getting a co-host too.
You may be right, don't
January 2, 2008 - 14:49 ET by Gary P JacksonYou may be right, don't know. But he did say a lot of glowing things about Heather before she came back to Fox, and started as his co-host. If he is just being professional, he's doing it well!

Good grief, is Olbermann suffering from carotene poisoning? Put some green felt fringe on his head and he can play Mr. Carrot in the kindergarten play, "Vegetables Are Our Friends".
