Dishonest Reporter 2007 Awards

Media watchdog website Honest Reporting has awarded their annual Dishonest Reporter Awards. Some of these stories you know and some you don't--probably because they were ignored by the media. Some were even covered here at NewsBusters.

The "winners" included Christiane Amanpour for “God's Warriors,” the BBC for covering up an internal investigation into its Mid East reporting, US government funded Al-Hurra TV's former 'director Larry Register for dhimmitude, a UNC Daily Tar Heel article about breaking up with a boyfriend because of Israel and of course Charles Enderlin and the Mohammad Al Dura Fautography that launched the Second Intifida. See how many of the stories over at Honest Reporting you know:

Dishonest Reporter of the Year (Christiane Amanpour)

This year's Dishonest Reporter voting marks a change for HonestReporting readers. Previous awards went to large, impersonal news services, but not so this year. One journalist made herself such a lightning rod in 2007 she easily defeated BBC and Reuters – the traditional disfavorites.

The results didn't surprise us, but the depth of anger and lingering resentment indicate that readers weren't just outraged by our winner's work; on some level, they were personally offended in a way far exceeding the rest of the MSM’s Mideast coverage this year. Which is why the 2007 Dishonest Reporting Award goes to Christiane Amanpour, for her in-depth, but tragically flawed CNN special series, God's Warriors.

Special Achievement in Verbal Gymnastics: Jeremy Bowen

The BBC's Mideast Editor wins for this sentence:

"There is no dialogue with those murderous terrorists," Mr Abbas said, referring to Hamas militants.

Worst Film Editor: Charles Enderlin

In his legal battle over the Mohammed al-Dura video, French media analyst Philippe Karsenty forced France 2 TV to publicly screen for the first time cameraman Talal Abu Rahma's raw, unedited footage.

When the judge asked correspondent Charles Enderlin why only 18 minutes of footage were submitted – instead of an expected 27 minutes – the veteran reporter told the court that when he transferred the images to DVD for the court, he had to manipulate some footage that wasn't relevant for that day. Although a final ruling isn't due till the end of February, the development and the footage discredited the myths of Mohammed al-Dura.

There's so much more at Honest Reporting. Definately check out the full story on the Al Dura Fautography and the others.

Couldn't of went to more of

Couldn't of went to more of a deserving critter than Amanpour....especially being with CNN...Register too at one time....

You know... The Most Trusted Name in News network....

So little time... so many more to name eh?

How about dishonest career

With Time naming Bolshevik Putin as man of the year...........a man who wants to install an Europe run from Moscow to Dublin, a man who freezes Slavs to death in winter, a man who uses al Qaeda as a tool for his world policy and a man who is going to be back in office within months due a "crisis".

It would be nice if Satania Amanpour would win the career lifelong dishonest award.

I was wrong on Gore not getting Time, guess it would have been a bit too over exposed for the man who would be president.

Lame Cherry, I agree with

Lame Cherry, I agree with you that Putin is certainly not a person to look up to. But that's not what "Person of the Year" is about. It's about who has had the biggest effect on the world, for good or ill.

As Time Magazine, the bestower explains it ( emphasis added):

TIME's Person of the Year is not and never has been an honor. It is not
an endorsement
. It is not a popularity contest. At its best, it is a
clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful
individuals and forces shaping that world—for better or for worse.

Maybe even more interesting...

Using that criteria, how could Time have not named President Bush, at least once, during his time in office?

 Better or worse, right?

Naw, they won't name him, even if they felt it was one of those on the 'worst' side of the equation, because their leftist droids would definitely bitch about the 'endorsement'.

An Aesop fable:  A turtle

An Aesop fable:  A turtle was preparing tocross a stream when a scorpion came up to him and asked if he could ride across on his back.  The turtle said "No, because you'll sting me."

The scorpion persisted promising he would not sting the turtle so finally the turtle relented and said "OK."

Half way across the stream the scorpion stung the turtle on his neck.   turning to look up at him the turtle asked:  "Why did you sting me?  Now we will both die."

To which the scorpion replied:  "But I am a scorpion, and that's what we do."

So too with liberals.  As with the scorpion, they are never to be trusted regardless of what they say.  They are liberals and that's what they do.

Absolutely. Christine Amanpour is the MOST Dishonest Reporter

of the Year.

Her "God's Warriers" went beyond just being slanted.   She shamelessly advocated and whitewashed Islam, while persecuting and denigrating Christianity.

And in that category, she

And in that category, she stands head and shoulders above the rest. Actually I think for that travesty called "God's Warriors" she should be given some kind of "Lifetime Achievement" award.

Head and Shoulders

You know, speaking of Head and Shoulders, I was amazed that someone found a picture of Chris-ti-awwwwn where she actually took the time to wash her hair.

Wow fitz... I had forgot

Wow fitz...

I had forgot all about that greasy unkempt hair of hers, and I did glance at her hair her, that it was noticably different than usual but quickly moved on to reading the info. so what I am trying to say in the long run is... thanks!

Any time, BT. She's such an

Any time, BT. She's such an easy target, too...that snotty, obnoxious affectation drives me up the wall.

Hi RJ... As I posted

Hi RJ...

As I posted above, it couldn't go to a more deserving critter...

I saw some of that series and could not watch it all I was so seething angry...I have been furious before over the years with her biased reporting but nothing made me angrier than that series.

and she's their "prestige"

and she's their "prestige" journalist! Makes sense, actually...

She is without peer in the

She is without peer in the fine art of biased reporter douchebaggery.

Surprised she hasn't taken the "h" out of her first name so it doesn't have "Christ" in it...

Amanpour is literally married to Clinton Inc.

Amanpour had the following exchange with CNN’s Larry King on August 20, 2007, while discussing her series on “God’s Warriors”:

KING: But how much does the Israeli-Palestinian situation affect the Muslim situation, affect the Christian opinion, when they all intermingle here?

AMANPOUR: Well, they do intermingle a lot. So, you know, I'm sort of keeping the two separate at the moment as I discuss this. But for sure, the constant open witnessed that is Israel-Palestine, the war that exists in Israel and the occupied territories is a powerful recruiting tool for those disaffected in the Islamic world. There is absolutely no doubt about that. But, also, right now, another powerful recruiting tool is the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. It is—it's equaled or surpassed, at the moment, the pool of recruits for those who would come into terrorism and who would do America harm. And I think, you know, there's a new Pew poll, a recent Pew poll that has just been published which has, I think, rather troubling results. It talks about how these phenomenal values that the United States espouses and has exported, you know, for decades, are now being viewed with suspicion and with distrust and mistrust. So, really, the challenge for America and for American leadership is to get that back, to reclaim its values, to reclaim its position in global society and to be able to once again be considered the exporter of great and valuable morals and values.

Amanpour’s claim echoed a statement offered by Jamie Rubin just a few weeks earlier. “It will take years, decades to retrieve the respect that we once had before [the Bush] people took office,” Rubin said. Rubin was the director of foreign policy for the Clinton/Gore campaign in 1996. He was also the spokesman for Madeleine Albright’s State Department and, in 2004, worked for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, serving as a senior advisor for national security affairs. In addition, Rubin supports Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Incidentally, Amanpour and Rubin have been married since 1998. According to the New York Times, “The couple met in 1997 in Bosnia, where Ms. Amanpour was on assignment and Mr. Rubin was traveling with Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright.”
