CNN's Roberts: Palin Too Young and Inexperienced

John Roberts, CNN Newsroom| NewsBusters.orgDuring the 9 a.m. EDT hour of “CNN Newsroom,” “American Morning” co-anchor John Roberts gave an analysis of Governor Sarah Palin during discussion of Senator John McCain's vice presidential choice. Roberts focused on Palin's lack of experience, saying that a prerequisite for the vice presidency should be the ability to step right into the office, especially because of McCain's age. Roberts stated:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

She's only been in office for a couple of years now, which really raises the experience issue here. [...]

Now, she is a manager. She is the governor of a state. She does have limited experience, though. She's also been the mayor for a city in Alaska. And for a time she was the ethics chairman of the Alaska oil and gas conservation commission. But that does not add up to broad experience, particularly the type of broad experience you think should launch you to the national level.

Of course, Senator Barack Obama, who is running for president of the United States, has no executive experience and has only been in the U.S. Senate since 2005. But apparently, Roberts finds Palin to be too inexperienced and young to be vice president.

Roberts's full statement follows:

ROBERTS: Well, she, you know, I talked to [Sarah Palin] a couple of times, and mostly we've talked to her about things that have been going on in Alaska. We haven't talked about national politics.

But she's the youngest governor ever in Alaska's history, and she's the first woman. She's only been in office for a couple of years now, which really raises the experience issue here.

Now, of course, Republicans have been raising the experience issue about Senator Obama, experience not quite so important when you're talking about a vice president, except in the case that John McCain today turned 72 years old.

And one of the prerequisites, we'd like to believe are prerequisites, for picking a vice presidential running mate are a person who can step into the office at a moment's notice and not miss a beat, a person who is prepared to be President of the United States.

Now, she is a manager. She is the governor of a state. She does have limited experience, though. She's also been the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. And for a time she was the ethics chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

But that does not add up to broad experience, particularly the type of broad experience that you think should launch you to the national level.

So, it would be a very interesting pick in terms of the dynamic that it would create next week at the Republican National Convention. You know, all of the speculation about whether Barack Obama was going to choose a woman and didn't, chose Joe Biden. John McCain, all the speculation has been whether he's going to pick perhaps a crossover independent type of candidate like a Joe Lieberman or a Tom Ridge.

If he picked a woman, that would certainly create an interesting dynamic. And maybe the fact that he has the depth of political experience would take away some of those questions about her experience. Again, though, with the caveat that you want to have a vice president who can step right into the job.

Oh, and expect the Democrats to make it all about that...at their own peril. Was Obama really the best-qualified in the Presidential field of Democrats? Would he have been the nominee if he weren't black?

Do the Democrats really want to open that can of worms?

As for "pandering to women"...how will they pretend that Biden was NOT picked to appeal to white men, blue-collar Pennsylvanians, and for his supposed foreign policy chops which Obama doesn't have?

Yeah, let's have that discussion!

Whether it's the most important thing, and whether or not you and I like it, that's what politics has come to.

And if the Democrats want to make it about her "lack of experience" (gee...she was never a "community organizer"!) they deserve to be hoist on their own petard!

Selection of Sarah Palin

I think he hit a home run on his selection.

The Dems are going to be seriously fuming and

will come out swinging, but I think they will have

their hands full with this woman.   I think she's

gonna be great.

I agree merlin and I hate to admit that McCain is growing on me

too. He has conducted himself very well during this campaign. He's showing that he can make some really good decisions. This one is the best possible one he could have made. I was hoping for Romney but only because I thought Palin didn't have a chance.

Romney would have been much easier to demonize.
I still disagree with McCain on some issues but I think he has shown himself to have 1,000 times the character of Obama or Biden.

actually, that would be you.

can't say I'm overwhelmed by the selection, but it was you who started the comparison with the dems.

motherbelt:

Sen. Obama went through the primary process - and he won.  Anyone who claims to no know him simply hasn't been willing to pay attention.  Sheer Insannity can keep hiding behind "community organizer" (a job Mr. Obama held for 18 months between college and law school) instead of "civil rights attorney" or "constitutional law lecturer" but that's weak and obvious.

Yes, Sen. Obama is the most qualified candidate.  Among other accomplishments, he built from the ground up a nation-wide organization with 1,000 employees and tens of thousands of volunteers, that has raised over $300,000,000.  He did this outside the existing structure of the Democratic Party (because that was so closely linked to the Clintons) and the existing supporters of that Party (Moveon.org, et. al.).

Sen. McCain has had to overhaul his campaign organization at least twice.  The GOP is raising so little money that he had to opt for public financing - first of all, of course, he was for it and then against it before he was for it.  The Republican head of the party congressional campaign committee is complaining about a lack of donations and support.  It's a mess.

Gov. Palin has...?  Well, she's...?  And...?

Finally - just why would anyone want a can of worms?

ARe you really saying that

ARe you really saying that because he built the best campaign organization he's the most qualified to be President????

Yeah and like the Annenberg Challenge, where he frittered away $100's of millions with no descernable effect upon education, he will run through that $300 mil literally (next 60 days) in short order as well.  Frank, the big issue is not how much money you are able to raise, but how wisely you spend it and the results it actually accomplishes.  Obama's track record is pathetic.  The Obama/Biden campaign will be a demonstration of another liberal boondoggle gone bad.

Obama and Biden should do the right thing and give back all the money they raised that's left.  This going to be a landslide election and it ain't Obama/Biden that will be winning.

B - I am still considering

B - I am still considering Barr. Any of the other choices would have made the decision easier. Palin makes it a much more difficult choice for me. If I were making my decision on the presidential candidates themselves, Barr is the better of the three. However, I also have to take into consideration how my vote is used. If I were in a small state with little chance of going BO, then I could send my message, along with hopefully many others to throw Barr into a position to (maybe) take a couple of electoral votes. Since I live in a slightly left leaning state, I have to consider what it could mean. Had McCain picked Lieberman, it would have been all over for me. Barr would have been my pick.

Politically, she is almost untouchable. The Dems are going to try to hit her because of her "inexperience" yet the Dems are putting someone with less experience up for Prez. She does not have any skeleton's in her closet. That cannot be said of anyone else in this race and probably all the "also-rans." Could McCain have picked someone with more experience, sure. But the one thing that needs to be considered here is that all of the rules of elections have been thrown out the window with Obama as the demprezcand. This makes the women who are so enamored with the Oba mess iah think twice about him. Affirmative action - not exactly. Politically savvy, more likely.

It is an interesting outcome that takes the woman AND youth punch out of the O'biden ticket. So they don't have the youngest and don't have a woman! I like that she is a way-outsider! You're not being honest about anything, especially as to your reasons as to why you dislike Palin as a VP choice.

Just what do you object to about Palin as VP, other than the fact that she's a woman? You didn't like Pawlenty as a possible VP, and he has more experience than Palin, correct? So it can't be a question of her experience in administration, can it? She's been the Command in Chief of the Alaskan nation Guard for two years, so it can't be a question as to her ability to command the military, can it? You complain that she doesn't know anything about the economy, but she must understand SOMETHING as she is managing the Alaska State budget, correct?

Admit it, you just don't like McCain, so anyone he picks as VP is going to be a bad choice in your eyes.

Sarah Palin is a great choice.

Every argument against her, is either neuteralized or becomes an advantage in the face of an Obama/Biden ticket:

1. She's too young/inexperienced.

Can the man-child Obama or any of his surrogates make that argument, and not look foolish? No.

2. McCain would look like he was pandering by picking her.

Yes,
and he would be. But that argument was made when everyone assumed Obama
would be pulling in the Hillary women voters, or at the worst: putting
Billary on the ticket. He's not doing either. In fact many of Hillary's
female voters are either undecided or are seriously considering McCain.
Putting Palin on the ticket now would look like he was reaching out to
those women. ("Reaching out" is political speak for pandering, I know,
but still...)

3. Because she's so young, she only makes McCain look so old. e.g. Bush/Quayle.

With
Obama picking Biden the same argument can be counter-made, with the
ages switched. Like with the first age issue, that's not a road the
Obama surregates will want to travel.

4. She would get creamed in the debates.

Perhaps, but consider this:

No
one watches the VP debates anyway. But I can promise you this, if a
woman is on either ticket, women will be watching that debate.

And who do you think they will sympathize with, when the attack dog Biden starts blasting her in that debate?

Besides, she's hot. Dang hot.

And she's a true conservative, unlike the moderate McCain.

She doesn't have the baggage a Romney would bring (he's rich, and a Mormon -- both unfair, but will still be detriments).

And
while picking Romney would ensure McCain holds onto to swing states
Nevada and Colorado, as well as putting Michigan within his grasp;
Palin would put the energy issue (i.e. The Repub's only voter-friendly
issue these days) front and center, since she strongly supports
offshore drilling. That issue can also be a spring board to a broader
economic discussions. Putting the always economy-minded Dems on the
defense.

I take issue with #4...

I really don't think that she will get creamed in the debates.  She didn't get where she was by crying, looking weak and having people look sorry for her.

She got to where she was by standing on her principles, and convincing others why she was the right choice for the job.  Alaska isn't a state for sissies.  I am more than willing to bet that she will be able to hold her own against Biden.  I think her lifestory will easily trump whichever version of his (or that British guy's) lifestory that he chooses to tell.

I am more than willing to

I am more than willing to bet that she will be able to hold her own against Biden.

She did a good job in bashing Biden in this 4 minute video.

I think Obama's only "executive experience" is serving on boards...which doesn't really count, IMO.

I wouldn't count Hillary out at this point, either.  I think she'll still have her machine thrashing around behind the scenes, feeding the media tidbits to sink Obama's ship.  It's her only hope of obtaining her goal of the presidency, unless she wants to run when she's as old as John McCain.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

I agree. If anyone thinks

I agree. If anyone thinks that Hill wants obama to win is crazy. She wants another chance in four years, but, I think the Palin pick today torpedoes that. Either way, she waits at least eight, maybe sixteen years for that second chance. Today's decision by McCain pretty much screws her.

The Annenberg project in Chicago...

wasn't exactly successful... in fact it was a miserable failure.

Being a Candidate in a campaign counts for little as far as executive experience goes

Of course since Obama has been part of a perpetual campaign since 1996... you might actually have a point.

How?

"Sen. Obama has demonstrated successful executive experience."

How did he demonstrate executive experience when he's never been the executive of any city, county, or state government? Nor does he have any business executive experience. Nor any civilian, military, boy scout, nor any other type of executive experience known to man.

However, let's examin the Carbon Cap & Trade issue: http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/6/12/mccain-veeps-and-cap-and-trade.html  According to this article in June, Palin has not expressed any hint that she is for this nonsense, in fact she is suing to overturn the polar bear designation.  That doesn't sound like an AGW cultist to me.  So, PT, show me a link that indicates she is an AGW cultist.  We know McCain is trying to straddle the fence on this issue, however, we can deal with him via obstruction in Congress.  You need some more pragmitism, we aren't going to get a perfect politician, but we can limit their stupidity.

I have it all but I am not sharing

You will see suckers!

I have confirmed that Palin

I have confirmed that Palin is NOT an AGW cultist:

If you were running for president, what causes would you champion?

I would push for a strong military and a sound energy policy. I believe that Alaska can help set an example on energy policy.

Speaking of energy, how much oil and gas does America really have?

We have billions and billions of barrels of oil and trillions of feet of natural gas. We have so much potential from tapping our resources here in Alaska. And we can do this with minimum environmental impact. We have a very pro-development president in President Bush, and yet he failed to push for opening up parts of Alaska to drilling through Congress -- and a Republican-controlled Congress, I might add.

I thought when we hit $100 a barrel for oil it would have been a psychological barrier that would have caused Congress to reconsider, but they didn't. Now we are approaching $200 a barrel. It's nonsense not to tap a safe domestic source of oil. I think Americans need to hold Congress accountable on this one.

What is your take on global warming and how is it affecting our country?

A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.

So PT we will not be suckers, there will be no Carbon Cap & Trade.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

PT, had Condi not already

PT, had Condi not already refused the VP nod, she would have been the only choice that would have been better. Of all the candidates that were in the running, none of them would have made me sit up and take notice. This was not a pander, as you say, but a logic decision. She is the best choice considering the field. Thats my opinion tho.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Yeah Palin is the most qualified - what a joke

This is embarrassing. I thought the GOP was better than Affirmative Action.

The Anti 'Man-Made' Global Warming Resource

Do Conservative Women benefit from Affirmative Action?

I'd like to see some stats on that.    Don't you think running a state might give her a bit of economic experience??

This is so sad

This is so sad. Keep defending the Affirmative Action choice and pretend she understands the economy.

What's sad

What's sad is your generalization of McCain's selection of her as VP as nothing more than pandering to a minority status, that Affirmative Action claim you keep making. It's obvious that you don't like her (is this because she's not a man?), but then again, I have a feeling that you wouldn't like ANY VP choice that McCain would make. You're just trying to justify your bias against McCain and any person that shares the ticket with him.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Yes I don't like her because she is not a man

I am all about affirmative action. You are not too bright either but what else is new.

I'm not to bright?

Be honest, PT. You wouldn’t like any of McCain's VP picks. Your repeated references to Affirmative Action is merely a red herring thrown out to avoid discussions as to her administrative qualifications and conservative credentials.

By the way, that was a rhetorical question I asked. So, who's not too bright? The one who asks a rhetorical question, or the one who answers it?

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

No I really vote with my pants

It is the only way to vote. I mean you on the other hand research each candidate and choose the most qualified based on education and experience. Not me I like that she is super hot.

What's the deal Pop?

My thoughts exactly Jack.  Very dissapointed Pop.

Hot chick?!?  Is that supposed to be a negative in this reality TV world we live in?  More experience than the dem Prez pick - negative?!?   Fiscal conservative vs. socialist on the other side?!? Negative?!?

What's the deal Pop?   This should be a no brainer for you....

Definitely a no brainer - I always vote with my pants

I never research anything and compare qualifications - I just pander to women and look for who is really hot and then propagandize the overwhelming executive experience compared to Obama which is sooooo hard to do.

You could not possibly have

You could not possibly have researched Sarah Palin and be against her if you're a conservative.

Sarah Palin - This is what a Conservative looks like !

Oh No I really prefer unqualified candidates and am lying

I mean to me it is all about Christmas and Abortion. Please stop with your lies.

Unlike you I am not about Affirmative Action.

How much executive

How much executive experience does Biden have? How about McCain? Hillary? Reduce Palin's executive experience all you want.  She's still more qualified than any of the riff-raff they have to offer. Advantage McCain.

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." -Ronald Reagan

fitzfong.blogspot.com

Palin

For me, Palin is wonderful. She has two qualities that are at the top of my list:

  • Executive experience
  • Pro-life

She's a woman, which shouldn't matter, but it does. She's young, which means that she counters everything that Obama says about himself. Strictly as a political pick, she's a great political pick. As for the leader of the free world? Can I see her ordering generals around? I don't know. I'm a little nervous about a 44 year old. But I'm willing to let her convince me.

Joe Biden must be sweating right now. He has to debate a Catholic who can take communion.

GOOOD QUALITIES!!!

Executive Experience less than most Mayors of large citied. But she is Pro-LIFE!!! I mean hey she's hot!

Give her a chance

As opposed to zero executive experience from the other three. And yes, I'm a pro-lifer, and she represents my values there. That's what elections are for, to vote for people who represent your values.

If she opens her mouth today and babble comes out, maybe I'll consider her a dud. But give her a chance.

Give her a chance?

She is pro-life and that is the only issue that matters and her impressive resume is overwhelming me. I cannot stop looking at how super qualified she is.

you also forgot to mention

that she is hot and that you vote with your pants *rolls eyes*

Don't forget, she's also

Don't forget, she's also pro-gun.  And she easy on the eyes next to McCain.

I'm going to vote like a

I'm going to vote like a woman this year and vote for a hottie. As I've heard from various women over the years --

I could stand looking at her for four years!

(ok, flame me now)

A gun in your hand beats a cop on the phone.

sorry pop

Unlike Obama, Palin actually has accomplishments, acheivements, and logical platforms. And unlike Obama, she unsat an encumbent Republican to win the election.

She's a smart choice for McCain because she's very popular among conservatives and isn't known for lying in speeches like Biden.

U-huh

Now pretend she is a man and compare her Resume.

why are you being so mean Pop?

She does have accomplishments, and even if she was a man she'd still be popular among conservie voters. Kinda like Bobby Jindal whose name was floating out there for a while - but oops, he's Indian so maybe that's affirmative action too.

If she was a man would *you* be on here screaming about her not being good enough?

Good Morning C ! Very

Good Morning C !

Very good morning!

Sarah Palin - This is what a Conservative looks like !

lol Free

I bet you're floating on cloud nine.

Can't say this in itself seals the deal for me, but I'm keeping an open mind. If McCain really only chose her to pander to conservies, he'll turn me off again. I want to see how this progresses to see if she'll really be given a seat at the table.

If this *is* a move to groom her for the future, I'll warm up to the ticket.

Right on C !

Right on C !

We're not voting for McCain.  We voting for Palin as VP to give her a boost for 2012 and 2016

Sarah Palin - This is what a Conservative looks like !

Jindal was a joke candidate too. Intelligent Design in schools - good for those who flunked science.

And you know thai, how?

"If she was a man McCain would never have picked her"

And you know this, how? I didn’t realize that you were with McCain when he made the decision. So, you were part of the selection process and have first hand knowledge as to why McCain picked her, correct? If not, then you’re only projecting YOUR reasons for rejecting her.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

How Naive are you?

She is a show pick.

PT

Please listen/read text of the speech Palin just gave in Dayton Ohio.  I think you might have a different opinion after listening/reading.  Very intelligent woman....magnificent speech.

BTW - I was pulling for Romney for McCain's VP pick.

Oh please what a joke - Palin was a Union Member

My opinion does not change on speeches unlike people who vote with their pants. I have this crazy idea to look at education and qualifications.

Oh she was a Union Member!

Fair Enough PT

I tried...

Wow the speech did not change her credentials?

I thought the speech was going to change her B.A. in Journalism to a something relevant. Surprisingly it did not but she was a member of the PTA!!!!

So what Pop tech - my husband is a Union Member and

he and many of the people he works with are not for the Unions. I can't believe you think being a Union member is a negative. Many people who are Union members don't have a choice. They don't like how some people are allowed to skate doing nothing and get the same pay. It's what they are stuck with.

It's like holding all American's responsible for the Carter Policies or the Clinton Policies or the Bush policies for that matter.

Unions are no better than the mob

Unions are a mob that breed incompetence and demand protection money.

People should get paid based on what someone is willing to pay them not because the mob demands it.

Pop tech - many Union memebers agree with that

My husband does.

I had to join a Union in

I had to join a Union in Alaska when I worked at Safeway...some of us have to to keep our jobs...didn't make me happy, didn't change my voting choices either.

What part of I pick candidates based on qualifications do you not understand?

WHAAAAA!

Poor little Pop, he doesn't like Palin! Cry me a river buddy. She's well qualified for the position of VP, far more experienced than a lot of VP's has been in the past. But don't let reality get in the way of your hysterics.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

omg pop

Take a xanax or sumpin. You're acting like a total jerk.

You say she wouldn't have been chosen otherwise, I say she very well could have because she's well liked among conservies.

If you don't like her that's your perogative, but stooping to personal insults and accusing NBers of voting with their anatomy is not constructive.

I'm starting to agree with some of the others here - you hate McCain so much that nothing he does will satisfy you.

Please don't spin this...

Pop

"Affirmative action pick?" The whole argument that McCain picked Palin entirely because she's a woman? Pure speculation on your part. Her gender could have played a part in McCain's decision to pick her, but you seem to automatically jump to the conclusion that his pick revolved entirely around this factor and its possible effect on voters without providing any constructive evidence.

"Vote with your pants?" I don't know, is Palin's perceived attractiveness the only reason why people who say she's attractive support her? Do you have any way of knowing that for sure?

Whether or not Palin has enough experience is the only dispute of yours I would be willing to consider. I would instead suggest looking at how she thinks about key issues, and what she has done to deal with them during her time in American politics...you know, the issues that are actually pertinent to the job she would hold if McCain were elected.

Look at the bright side, though- at least the GOP is willing to entrust a high-level federal public office to a conservative reform-style Governor who has pretty much transformed AK, and is not willint to entrust the party to somebody who has not only spent not even one term in the Senate, but has also been absent for a vast majority of votes held (or voted "present" or mostly with lib dems on the rest), has no record of executive experience and is basically a snake.

So the logic here is that

So the logic here is that an average American without professional political "training" (like most of our founders , mind you.) can't run for office? Look at her record. She has done nothing but bust up corruption, lower taxes, and cut government spending. Plus, she hasn't exactly made very many friends with local politicians, but that hasn't stopped her. I'm unsure as to how anyone but the most liberal of U.S. Citizens could view this pick as a negative. She embodies Conservative principles.

Sure, she's about as inexperienced as Obama, although she has been an executive and led the Alaskan NG, which isn't exactly somthing to scoff at, considering all the training and drilling they constently do. But unlike Obama, she has principles that we can look back and see, principles that she has run on. Was she seeking the presidency? Of course not. As she said on Glenn Beck earlier in the year, she was more concerned with fixing the curroption in Alaska. A fine choice indeed.

If Palin is McCain's choice

If Palin is McCain's choice for VP, it would be a home run for the GOP.  My measure of McCain's decision making ability will have gone up a few notches.  As far a John Roberts is concerned, thanks for making it perfectly obvious that Palin is exactly the right choice because I can hear the fear in his voice.

This is priceless

The media is actually going to go there? They're going to bash her for a lack of experience? True, she would have to step in if something happened to McCain. But Obama will be President from Day One and he's just as inexperienced. Where is the media outcry over that?

Very disappointing.

That is because you think with your pants

I think with my brain - thus your confusion.

I bet Biden has more education than Palin

oooooooh sorry couldn't resist. Did that hurt?

Were Palin's grades as Bad as Biden's?

I really don't know, but it's hard to imagine them being worse.

A good start.

Palin experience vs Obama experience

One runs a state, the other runs...um, yeah.  One assists in running a commercial fishing enterprise, the other...um, yeah.  One knows when life begins and the other..um, well...yeah.

"Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain." Official Motto of the State of Iowa

Roberts seems less

Roberts seems less concerned about a Presidential candidate who has little experience versus a VP candidate.  Amazing.

She's pro-life, she kills pork-barrel projects, she calls out her own party when they screw up; that should help with (1) the abortion issue that has been more in the limelight lately, (2) spend and borrow (or tax) critics, and (3) stepping away from the Bush admin, which the libs consistently rag on.

The only point of weakness I see with this duo is on the economy.  However, if they can bring to light the current positive trends (3.3% GDP revised growth) without sounding condescending to those who are going through tough times, maybe they can make ground in rebuking the Nets who morph all financial news into misery.

CNN doesn't like her?

She has my vote!

"I need more cowbell!" SNL

Managing a state is still more experience than being ...

a senator who hasn't shown up for work in the last 18 months ... and who has no record of doing anything significant/noteworthy before that.

with a son going to iraq ... a son born with down syndrome and a proven record of being tough on corruption ... SHE is more in tune with the average american than biden and obama combined ... good choice in my book.

So, Experience IS Important?

So it's more important for the VP candidate to have experience that the Presidential Candidate?

God, these MSM slime are just so full of themselves!

BHO is so not right for our Country!

Palin? Inexperienced?

Hey, John - have you been drinking the kool-aid so long and have become so enthralled by his lordship Obamessiah you haven't seen his "experience"?  147 days in the U.S. Senate? Voted the #1 liberal in the Senate? Association with ultra-left wing pundits? And you think this empty-suited ego is qualified to be president because of his "experience"?

Palin has more political experience in her little finger than Obamessiah has in his entire body.

McCain has pulled the trump card. We have just retained the White House - and may have just regained control of Congress.

Good For Her!

She's light years ahead of Cheney, that's for sure.

Palin works, Hussein O rides the taxpayer dole..

Democrats are now in a dark alley full of thugs (Hussein O is their leader) without a defense.

All McCain has to do is point out that Palin does her job and Hussein O has drawn a check on the federal tax payers for three years and worked, no make that been in the Senate building,  a total of 143 days in three years. Hussein O has '0' accomplishments in the 143 days and in his past Chicago 'mob' service positions, other than ripping off the taxpayers for a billion dollars or so.

Palin has a world of work experience compared to Hussein O and 'she loves her country' , while the Obama's hate and 'god damm' America.

Still not a McCain supporter since 2000.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

Telling

That's quite a stretch.   Ya gettin' scared John/CNN or is this just one of many trial balloons you'll be sending up in the next few days?

I love this pick for GOP VP.  Wonder what Hillary's thoughts are? Or the NOW crowd?

Sexists and Racists

The Democrats and liberal media destroyed Hillary and they have called Powell and Rice token appointments of the Republicans. Is there any doubt they will try and bring down Palin the same way?

If they dare try that

McCain needs to channel Jeff Bridges from the ending of The Contender and just rip them a new one. Interesting that that movie was on TV the other day right before McCain makes this announcement.

Of course they will. Just

Of course they will. Just like a black appointed by a Republican is a "token" so they will try to paint Palin as an "affirmative action" pandering pick. Of course, if Obama had chosen a woman, that would have been amazing!!

They will trash her, though, at the peril of angering countless women voters.

Obama's Choice - Sarah's Choice

Interesting isn't it?

The poster case of Obama's infanticide debacle involved a Downs Syndrome baby

Interesting indeed.

And how about......Biden.  Ha.  Will the dem bulldog be unleashed against this sweet-looking mom with the sick kid at home?  God, the more I think about this decision the more I love it....

Just has special needs.  But we know what ardent Catholic Biden would have done.

Seems Biden is in favor of preemptive strikes when convenient.

Did I mention that I served on the USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) for 3 years.  He has had my vote since 2000.  Beating the messiah is not an option, but piviots upon the very founding threads of this nation.

GO JOHNNY GO!!!

Sarah Palin - This is what a Conservative looks like !

Yeah WOW

I mean he really check mated Obama. Don't bring up her experience I mean she really doesn't have any.

If Obambi can be presidential candidate, Palin is overqualified

Yeah, because Obama is so-o-o-o-o-o experienced.

But the MSM loves him, so no word about that.   And two years as VP is a little lite, I will grant that, but if Obambi can be presidential candidate, Palin is overqualified for VP

Sarah Palin - This is what a Conservative looks like !

The GOP's high standards

I am so happy the GOP has such high standards.

OMG...

BWAHAHAAHA!!!  She has no experience but Roberts darling golden boy does??  No double standards; nothing to see here, move along.

Seriously though, I have to agree in part with PopTech.  Definately an affirmative action move.  She may be easy on the eyes, but a stonger VP candidate (man or woman) is what he needs(ed) to win.  Unfortunately, BHO will be the next president of the USA, no doubt in my mind.  I was really hoping for Huckabee, C. Rice or maybe even C. Powell----all very strong candidates with experience.

I think it is time for us to start hiding that "little bit of money we have left over each month" between our matresses or elsewhere; they will be coming for it like thieves in the nite...........

"Controlling carbon is a bureaucrat's dream. If you control carbon, you control life," Richard Lindzen - March 2007.

"Unfortunately, BHO will be

"Unfortunately, BHO will be the next president of the USA, no doubt in
my mind. I was really hoping for Huckabee, C. Rice or maybe even C.
Powell----all very strong candidates with experience."

Huckabee is a lib as much as McCain. And Powell? Rice? First of all, Rice would guarantee a loss, and second...if Palin is an affirmative action choice, what the heck do you call Powell and Rice, both of whom are less Conservative than Palin? They may have more experience, but either choice would have been seen for exactly what it would have been.....the ultimate pander.

We wanted a Conservative, pro-life VP candidate. We got one. Not sure who you guys thought would be a better choice anyway. I like Romney, but he would have cost votes because of the foolish evangelicals.

So, for those who aren't happy with this choice, who did you want?

I just told you; and I

I just told you; and I DIDN'T mean it as a pander concerning Rice or Powell.  And if those choices are/would be considered a pander then what in the heck do you think/how do you think the dems will spin the Palin pick??-----as a pander.

Personally, McCain wasn't my choice anyway---I STILL wish Thompson would have got off of his dead ass; I think if he would have put just a little effort into his campaign he would have won the nomination and the presidency hands down.

In addition, I think Huckabee is LESS liberal than McCain.

"Controlling carbon is a bureaucrat's dream. If you control carbon, you control life," Richard Lindzen - March 2007.

Politically Smart

The masses are asses. That's politics. Most Americans, unfortunately, do not care about the issues. In the political environment today, issues are secondary. It's gender and race; it's youth and age. It's Madison avenue. It's perception. It's surface stuff. McCain has made an excellent choice on this level: an athlete, a hockey mom, a good looking young WOMAN. I believe this will put him over the top.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

If anything Palin is more qualified then Obama

Palin has executive experience, Obama doesn't. Palin understands the economics of running a business, Obama doesn't.

Palin has been involved in leadership roles in politics. Obama hasn't.

If anything, McCain saw Obama's need for change and raised it by taking a competent Conservative.... woman.

Told him he should have picked Hillary.

Guys and gals...

...This is not a bad choice.  She is cute and smart.  Just because she can't stage an 80,000 person stadium farce doesn't mean that she doesn't have the right stuff.

Biden is a fool.  I hope that his rhetoric is not feared.  He has never served, and therefore has ZERO ethos with respect to the military.

By the way, where to Biden's credentials come from?  Being a crazy lefty loony senator does not make you a foreign policy expert.  No matter how many year you have been a Senator.  And, no matter if your son is a traitorous NG officer.  He should have never spoke.  It is a borderline ethichs violation.  I hope that his ass is courts martialed.

FLY ARMY!

Oh Johnny ...

More people would buy your bullsh!t if you yodeled your bias to the tune of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Unlike Barack Hussein Obama "on the job training" is afforded to the veep spot on the ticket. Also, technically Palin has more executive experience that the senators three and Hillary combined. So ...?

I'm getting the sense here

I'm getting the sense here that John McCain didn't seek approval from Popular Tech before he made his choice of run his choice of Sarah Palin.

Sure, she's a political choice - this is politics - not a business hiring an employee. I think choosing a woman was brilliant - it neutralizes the bulliness of attack dog Biden in the Vice Prseidential debate - the only time anyone pays much attention to these candidates and about the only time they can affect the election much.

A Governor isn't good enough? Snort.

Reading over PT's comments, it's obvious that he's descended to the level of a broken-record troll.

She's a governor, not a community organizer.

It's his moment in the spot

It's his moment in the spot light and apparently likes the attention he's getting. As for me, I gave up on his mile long lists and negativity a while ago. If he doesn't like McCain - fine. If he doesn't like Sarah Palin - fine. If he wants to vote Libertarian and help give us Barack Obama - fine.

He should go do it and spare the rest of us his fist-shaking interminable departure...

McNotObama '08

Brilliant - Identity Politics

I mean I am so happy we are over qualifications and instead look to pander to women. That is just brilliant. The GOP has become the party of affirmative action.

Sarah Palin

Unlike Hillary, Palin did not ride her husbands coattails to get where she is. If you've ever seen Biden bully some witness during a Senate hearing you know he better watch out in his debate with her. Besides she's tougher than both Biden and Obama.

Sarah Palin is a checkmark

Sarah Palin is a checkmark in the plus column for McCain. The other column still holds the lead.

This will backfire on the libs every time.

She has more executive experience in her little finger than Obama has... and she's only the VP pick.

Reply

"This will backfire on the libs every time."

No it won't. And not because it can't or shouldn't. It will be because McCain is like George W. Bush in the sense that he won't stand up to attacks or defend himself effectively in any way. Sure, he shows potential, but he shuts up as soon as he sees any mark of progress for his campaign, likely thinking that he can continue giving a little in exchange for getting a lot.

So you can count me as in with the group of people who are hoping that Palin catches the opposition in their crap and has enough guts to shove it down their throats when necessary. Because it's really about time.

"My morality is your morality."

Skeys...

I don't know....

I think McCain has been rather laid back about deflecting attacks aimed at him personally....I think he feels it's beneath him to respond.  And some of his non-responses have been rather clever (the houses, $5 million is rich, etc.)

However, I think he'll respond in typical macho fighter pilot mode when the attacks go after Sarah Palin (or his wife, for that matter).

I could be wrong...but we shall see.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

One detail

One thing that I forgot to include in my original post in this thread is the suggestion that the reader of my post take into consideration the attention span of the average American. A large portion of them their news from television or newspapers. But many of them don't bother to think seriously about what they hear or read on TV or newspapers or the internet- a serious advantage to the liberal viewpoints that run these outlets.

So McCain and Palin have to work twice as hard and be ten times as loud, and ten times as tactical as the dem candidate. And McCain isn't living up to those requirements enough. It doesn't matter whether he feels its "beneath him" to respond in a detailed manner to criticisms on issues that are on a lot of American peoples' minds. He's got to impress, so far he hasn't, and the American people are looking for someone who can outright impress them...and they're settling for someone who only looks like they're impressive. McCain's full-time duty is to use logic against his opponent...but he's not a very logical man.

John Roberts

Is so full of B. $$$$

This is an exceptional stroke of genius for the McCain campaign with many dimensions and opportunities. Bravo!!!!

I read the Lawrence Kudlow interview of Sarah Palin, and the bio information that is part of the interview, sketches out some of the factors that must have led McCain to this selection.

The first female V.P. selection is from the Republicans. So, what party is shattering glass ceilings? Lets see, Oh! it's the Republicans, and she has a RECORD as a reformer!

This is masterful!

Great Pick

I was hoping he'd pick her.  Just let the dems and the liberal media open up the "experience" can of worms.  She is not running for pres, McCain is.  And she's a true conservative and wants to drill, drill drill!  And all those disaffected Hillary voters . . . my, my, my.

This is just one reason this

This is just one reason this is such a great pick...Roberts thinks the VP should have experience but really doesn't care if his Dem POTUS candidate has any...

Dang, PT...

You could use a Midol, no?

Tips for the Mainstream Media about Palin

1. Make Hillary Voters know that they are trying to pander to them and she was not the most qualified Woman. Bring up why looks matter over qualifications.

2. Bring up she was a Beauty Queen and only has a B.A. in Journalism. Make it clear McCain wanted someone attractive and not qualified.

3. Expose the propagandized nonsense about her understanding energy policy.

4. Play that they picked her only to drill ANWR which has only 10.6 BBO and is not really that important.

5. Bring up that she was a Mayor of a town of only 5000 people and a Governor of a small state (pop: 600,000) for less than 2 years.

6. Make jokes about her private sector experience being a sports caster.

Palin's Propagandized Energy Experience

What experience? Some lobbyist explaining to her about drilling and she repeats it makes her an expert? Wanting a gas pipeline does not make you an energy expert. This is so sad.

Oh and her husband works for BIG OIL! Make her look in the tank for Big Oil.
