Nets Ignore Pro-life Protests in Denver

photo by Win McNamee of Getty Images | NewsBusters.orgWhile the national media fret over whether or not there will be unity in the Democratic Party and gush over Monday night’s speeches by Senator Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama, pro-lifers are out in Denver, Colorado, protesting and working hard to get their message across. Of course, it would be easier to get their message out if the national media paid attention to their protests.

None of the big three broadcast network morning shows -- ABC’s "Good Morning America," NBC’s "Today" and CBS’s "Early Show" -- reported on these protests. Of course, this should come as no surprise. The broadcast networks also ignored this year’s March for Life as well as the 35th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling.

In contrast, all three of the network evening news broadcasts reported on the anti-war protests on the fifth anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. Moreover, these reports all aired within the first ten minutes of each program.

MyFox Colorado, a local affiliate of Fox News, reported on the protests:

Anti-abortion activists tucked 500 roses into the security fence surrounding Denver's Pepsi Center in a protest-prayer vigil to urge the Democratic Party and Barack Obama to outlaw abortion.

Using a bullhorn, the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition, also denounced the city for its security arrangements for the Democratic National Convention. The convention begins Monday.

Mahoney said he had been assured by City Attorney David Fine that, despite a new security perimeter erected the night before, protesters in Saturday's "Prayer for Change" event would be able to get within about 30 yards of the Pepsi Center. The closest they could get was about 100 yards.

So instead of laying roses on the ground near the Pepsi Center as planned, Mahoney instructed the approximately 100 participants -- most of them in their teens and 20s -- to stick the roses into the security fence, made of a metal mesh resembling the material used in lawn furniture.

Only a corner of the Pepsi Center could be seen from the protest site.

"This is a sign of the crushing of the First Amendment, which I happen to think is tragic," said Mahoney, standing on a sidewalk between the fence and two city dump trucks blocking a center entrance to traffic.

A message left at Fine's office wasn't immediately returned, but a city spokeswoman said she was working to check out Mahoney's claims.

The event attracted a handful of counter-protesters from a group called the World Can't Wait. They held signs with slogans such as, "Life begins when you stand up to Christian fascists."

They expect to get back to him by Friday.

What is ironic...

You can be sure that they will make sure that the group "World Can't Wait" will get some coverage.

Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying.  - Ronald Reagan

The MSM only pays attention

The MSM only pays attention to pro-lifers when they blow up a clinic or shoot somebody.  Which means it's been about oh, 12-13 years?

Over a dozen of the

Over a dozen of the protesters in question have been arrested, including Randall Terry, some priests, and at least two Protestant clergy. Has anybody seen coverage of this?

And what behavior led to the arrests? How did it compare to the behavior of the Loonie Lefties? Were any of them arrested?

Once again we see speech abridged based on it's content.

This is what the democrats really stand for. "Agree with me or shut up".

It's ironic that the fascists held signs accusing the others of being fascists.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Take the Left and the MSM to School

The RNC should give a prime time slot to a video showing the miracle of human life, from conception to birth, and then ask Americans if they've got a high enough pay grade to figure it out.

There are 16-year-old girls making minimum wage who know more about life than Obama.

keep track all this week if

keep track all this week if the MSM covers any protests.

Then during the Republican convention see how much air time those protests get.

Any bets as to what type of coverage protests in St. Paul will get compared to in Denver?

Unity?

According to the Obama unity movement, those who want to protect innocent babies are dividing the country, but those who support abortion are bringing us together.... go figure.

i am really tired of people

i am really tired of people who call themselves pro life...what they should say is anti abortion because  they are the same people who squeal with glee as innocent people ..women and children are bombed to pieces in 'SHOCK AND AWE"..IF YOU ARE TRULY PRO LIFE,YOU CANNOT POSSIBILITY SUPPORT THAT.

I am really tired of people

I am really tired of people who call themselves pro choice...what they should say is anti-life because they are the same people who squeal with glee as innocent babies are rent from their mother's womb in the name of 'WOMEN'S HEALTH"...

Good Grief.

just to clarify...i am

just to clarify...i am against abortion...i just do not agree with it..and this is coming from someone who does not believe in  any god...but if i cannot accept the killing of innocent babies via abortion,i also cannot accept the wonton bloodlust of some of our leaders which leads to pleanty of innocent deaths which are no less precious that an unborn chil;d

Well, thanks for clarifying

Well, thanks for clarifying that. My biggest issue with your original statement, however, was your characterization of pro-life people squealing with glee at the deaths of innocent civilians in a time of war. That was a cheap shot.

No one that I know relishes in the death of innocent people. And I find it overly simplistic to ascribe a wonton bloodlust to our current leaders. It is also overly simplistic to imply that all war is unnecessary and unjustified simply because innocents die. Your original statement also suggests that in the prosecution of war we purposely target those innocents. I'm sorry you feel that way.

i certainly did not mean it

i certainly did not mean it to be a cheap shot.i am fully aware that wars are some time necessary.i would be quite silly if i thought differently.an i guess i should have not lumped all of our leaders together.but bush claiming "bring it on" like this was some big high school football rivalry on thanksgiving sickened me..lives lost ..lives changed forever..i am not saying we can avoid war...i am just saying some people don t have to enjoy it so much..and there are people who do..you must know that.

patmac, thanks once again

patmac, thanks once again for clarifying. I respect your opinion as finally expressed and I recognize how you formed it. I will disagree with it, however.

In my opinion, Bush's use of "bring it on" was merely his poorly expressed declaration of our resolve to bring justice to terrorists. It could easily be perceived as reckless bravado, but I did not interpret it that way.

I know there are evil people in this world who do relish violence and war, but I do not believe that Bush is one of those people either.

"bring it on" was

"bring it on" was absolutely perfect to me:)

don't let the appeaso-libbies sucker you in against it

thank you for allowing me

thank you for allowing me this free exchange of ideas which is a bedrock of the wonderful nation we call home.we expressed our opinions and we each respected the other thoughts and their right to express them without the insults which obviously someone else found the need to hurl.hope things are well for you and look forward to maybe another exchange at anothertime and by the way to the person who found the need to insult,i was at the trade center on 9/11 and had to flee for my life.i saw the devestation and death that horrible morning and pass the emptiness every day coming to work .i saw it go up and saw it come down that day so i  dont need you preaching!!!!

You're welcome and thank

You're welcome and thank you, as well. After a rocky start, I too enjoyed our dialog.

I can only imagine the horror you experienced that day based on what I saw on television.

yes...it was

yes...it was enjoyable...besides whats  a little rocky start...

i certainly did not mean it

i certainly did not mean it to be a cheap shot.i am fully aware that wars are some time necessary.i would be quite silly if i thought differently.an i guess i should have not lumped all of our leaders together.but bush claiming "bring it on" like this was some big high school football rivalry on thanksgiving sickened me..lives lost ..lives changed forever..i am not saying we can avoid war...i am just saying some people don t have to enjoy it so much..and there are people who do..you must know that.

My friend's teenage

My friend's teenage daughter participated in a Bound for Life protest a couple of months ago in Washington; she said it changed her life. Her mom was shocked and amazed because her daughter is normally very quiet and reserved, never wanting to draw attention to herself. They have always been Pro-life but now it has moved to a new level.

The youth are the movement

The youth are the movement now.

I remember when I was at a Feminists for Life board meeting. A college student scolded us older ones for not getting it. Weeping, she said, "This is MY generation that's been slaughtered!"

The kids get it. That they're fortunate to have survived gestating in a hostile world. The womb should be the safest place in the world, but thanks to abortion it's the most dangerous, with fully one in three not making it out alive due to violence perpetrated with society's blessings.

Children are still being

Children are still being used however by the left. I copied and posted a plea from a 13 year old girl today. She made her plea at all places, Real Climate. I was so saddened by how scared these people made her that I am encouraging people to read what she wrote and make sure it does not happen to your kids. You can read it here in "Listen Up Ecofascists, etc..."
