Boston Globe Takes Aim at Swift Boat Vets

With all of the videos of Barack Obama’s pastor problems and gaffes, it’s no wonder the liberal media are afraid of what conservative 527 groups will do with them.

A June 9 article entitled “Decency in D.C.” and featured in the “local news” section of the Boston Globe, columnist Kevin Cullen decried the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) – the group which ran ads against Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2004 – as liars and all that is wrong with Washington, D.C.

Perhaps still sore from the 2004 election, and taking a cue from Media Matters, Cullen claimed, “And, the best part is, if [the Swift Boat Vets] can't find any videotape in which [Rev.] Wright actually says anything remotely as outrageous, they'll just make it up.”

The local news columnist also assumed that if Hillary Clinton were the Democratic nominee, the Swift Boat Vets would play the gender card: “No doubt [the Swift Boat Vets] are much chagrined it won't be Hillary. Taking sexist swipes at her would have been like hitting a tossed watermelon with a baseball bat: too dang easy.”

Giving a glimpse of his personal viewpoints, Cullen wrote, “We'll just have to settle for the swiftboaters spending millions trying to convince us that this election is not about the quagmire in Iraq, the troubled economy, or the fact that after eight years of neo-cons at the helm, the nation's reputation is lower than W's approval rating.”

Cullen went on to describe former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill’s relationship with former President Ronald Reagan and how they were able to see past each other’s political differences and be friendly towards each other as an example of how he thinks politicians should act. But, as Michael Novak noted in an August 2004 piece for the National Review, Kerry’s 1971 witness testimony before the Senate called Vietnam veterans – like those who were members of the SBVT group – “hypocritical, self-interested, even criminal.” So why does Cullen not remember this? That’s hardly “decency in D.C.”

Senator Kerry has not refuted the charges...

Senator Kerry has not refuted the charges brought by the Swift Boat Vets. Why?

Why the Democrats Lose

Democrats are always fighting the last great preceived Republican injustice. In this case it is Kerry's fellow veterans. It could be the mythical advertisement in the Saxby Chamblis - Max Cleland contest. Or it could be the mythical Willie Horton issue (first raised by Al Gore against Dukakis).

You see Democrats can't lose because of issues. The can only lose because of perfidy. If the lost on the issues, they might have to change their views. But they see themselves as imbued with rightness. So if they lose, it must be do to trickery or evil

In the case of thw swift boaters, Democrats are deeply offended that a group had the audacity to challenge John Kerry's war record and patriotism. For patriotism to the left, is going before a Senate committee and accusing your fellow veterans of committing war crimes.

This year, Democrats are determined not to let Obama's twenty year association with Reverend Wright become an issue.  They will accuse Republicans of vile plotting to deflect the sting of Reverend Wrights words. They will have shoddy memories when it comes to Obama's long association with radicals.

The problem for the Democrats and the biased media is that people are not so easily fooled. If they were, Republicans would not 7 of the last ten Presidential Elections.

The Democrats not win by putting up an empty shell of a candidate such as Obama. They will win, when they seriously address the reasons why they continue to lose Presidential elections and no longer blame bogey men such as the swift vote veterans.

It must be something in

It must be something in Boston's water. There's still a million bucks out there for Kerry to collect if he can find one false statement from the Swifties.

Swift Boating means telling the truth the media won't.

First, kill all the lawyers.

-Wlm Shakespear

You nailed it!

"There's still a million bucks out there for Kerry to collect if he can find one false statement from the Swifties."

Interesting...

Speaking of which, when is Kerry going to release ALL of his military records to the general public?

One of the Swifties had previously endorsed Kerry when he ran for the Senate from Massachusetts. But thay was because he felt that Jean-Claude couldn't do much harm in the Senate.

But when Kerry ran for the whole ball of wax, it was too scary to fathom.

Never

Speaking of which, when is Kerry going to release ALL of his military records to the general public?

Probably when he figures out how to square that "Christmas in Cambodia" circle.

dbo... Speaking of which,

dbo...

Speaking of which, when is Kerry going to release ALL of his military records to the general public?

I know I heard him promise...promise to Tim Russert he was going to do that henceforth...

Still waiting...

Nothing from Russert either since then...oh I forgot Kerry has a 'D' after his name...mums the word.

He DID Realease Them All

Actually, he released all of his records-to exactly 3 liberal reporters. One was from his hometown paper, the NY Times owned Boston Globe. Another was a reporter from the LA Times. And the third was from AP.

All 3 are totally trustworthy & vetted sources...

Here on NB. ;)

Seriously, that was lame beyond just not-releasing them, because it leads to shouting matches over whether the Boston Globe is trustworthy. Face it, Sen. Kerry, for some of us, it's NOT!!!
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

  The thing I don't

The thing I don't understand is why after the dems have had time to reflect on the folly of nominating Monsieur Kerry that they still seem to think that their loss was due to the Swiftboaters.

Why Mid

what else could his loss be attributed to...certainly not him, his policies, or his wife, hmmmm?

"Cullen went on to describe

"Cullen went on to describe former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill’s relationship with former President Ronald Reagan and how they were able to see past each other’s political differences and be friendly towards each other ...."

Sorry, but Newsbusters should not accept this myth and then blindly repeat it.  Reagan was friendly with O'Neill because Reagan was a gentleman.  O'Neill was NOT friendly towards Reagan.  Just do a simple search for some of the vile things that O'Neill said of Reagan.  Please stop repeating this fraudulent story.  Simply because dimwitted leftists in the Washington press corps or others like Chris Matthews or someone named Chris Cullen often repeat this fraud, does not mean that Newsbusters should.  Thank you.

The real truth about Kerry

Four years ago, Kerry made the mistake of posting some of his military records on his campaign website. He didn't keep them there for very long, but long enough for me to copy them to my own pc so that I could analyze them. I posted my analysis at http://rhudddraigiau.blogtownhall.com/2004/10/05/john_kerry%e2%80%99s_service_records.thtml

It makes for very interesting reading.

Great Stuff!

I especially liked the part about how Jean-Claude accused Bush of getting out of his military obligation "early", but fails to mention that he himself did the exact same thing.

Truth

The Swiftboat Veterans told the truth. I remember watching that fool Kerry in front of Congress. His person made such a tiny impression on me at the time. Just one of many liars who were traitors to the nation as our heroes died in Vietnam. It wasn't until the 2004 campaign that I realized it had been Kerry himself lying while wearing the uniform. It made me sick in the 60's and even more sick in 2004. And as almost every commentator, including many on Fox today, seems to accept "Swiftboating" as a legitimate word, Orwells's 1984 comes to mind. But no matter how they try to change history, those who were there know the truth. Kerry is a slimy, hypocritical s.o.b.

Who is Barry Sotero?

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

ives....

"Swiftboating" is a perfectly legitimate word.

A word for calling out a lying liar.   John F'ing Kerry got swiftboated....booted up his lieing butt for lieing like a rug.

They can try to change it, all they want...but those of us who know and understand, get the truth of the matter.

P.S.  I hope Barry H. O. get's "organized".  What a crock of crap for hijacking..... a la Jess Jackson.

Disgusting libs.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

Kerry is a slimy,

Kerry is a slimy, hypocritical s.o.b.

Plus a traitor as far as I am concerned isia.

Plus he is still spewing his filth without evidence against our troops all for political gain....

Filthy ba$t#rd as far as I am concerned along with Murtha.

Swiftboat Vets

If my memory serves me correct the Swift Boat Vets scored 100% and Freakin Hanoi John ((traitor) Kerry scored '0'.

Kerry didn't and won't fight them because the proof is there and it will only be worse for him. Hussein O will not respond to the Homosexual acts and drug use in 1999 for the same reason. The man making the claim has airtight proof or Hussein O would have already became unglued.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

I just decided...

...that I'm going to their web site and see if they need any more members.  If indeed they are going to be instrumental in defeating Obama, I want to be a small part of the effort.

So-called Swiftboaters

The Globe displays an appalling ignorance about the group of veterans that came together in 2004 for a specific purpose. First, that group consists solely of Vietnam veterans who served in the patrol craft known as Swiftboats. Other veterans and non-veterans supported their efforts in a subordinate role and financially. Second, their purpose has not varied, has not changed, and is not political. It was and is to tell the truth about Senator John "Kerry's phony war crimes charges, his exaggerated claims
about his own service in Vietnam, and his deliberate misrepresentation
of the nature and effectiveness of Swift boat operations." That is from their web site, which ends with this: "

For
more than thirty years, most Vietnam veterans kept silent as we were
maligned as misfits, drug addicts, and baby killers. Now that a key
creator of that poisonous image is seeking the Presidency we have
resolved to end our silence.

The time has come to set the record straight."

I helped in a small way during some activities in D.C. After observing these honorable Veterans up close and personal, I find these statements to be the complete reason for their founding, and not as some continuing 527, PAC, McCain group, etc. The Globe and Cullen are showing ignorance, stupidity, sloth, and paranoia by printing such rot.

I supported the Swift Boat members and POW for the truth

They knew the real Hanoi John Kerry and his history.

What gets me is POWs said the same thing and teamed up with the Swifties.
