Krugman: ‘GOP Policies Much More Likely to Make Us End up like Greece’

It’s Comrade Krugman’s nightmare. New York Times Columnist and Nobel-prize winning economist Paul Krugman can’t imagine anything worse than a Republican in the White House again. On an Oct. 24 broadcast of Huffington Post Live, Krugman warned that a Romney victory could cause America to become chaotic like Greece. “It's the Republican policies that are much more likely to make us end up like Greece,” he stated.

Krugman also predicted a double dip recession due to “tax cuts for the rich, who won’t spend them and slash spending for the poor and the middle class, who will be forced to cut back.” These things will result in “a simultaneous deficit explosion and a double-dip recession.”

Krugman, who’s argued that the problem with Obama’s stimulus was that it was too small, also attacked Mitt Romney’s intelligence. “People say he's a smart guy, but it's not visible in his statements, and it's not visible in his off-the-cuff reactions either.”

Krugman is an unashamed liberal partisan. In 2011, he claimed Congressman Paul Ryan’s budget proposal would “kill people, no question.” CNN re-aired this statement on Aug. 13, 2012, after Governor Romney announced his vice presidential nominee.

In a New York Times op-ed published July 14, 2011, Krugman slammed the GOP as having gone “insane.” And in June 2012 in an interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, Krugman so humbly claimed that he, as well as other Keynesian economists that agree with him “have been right about everything.”
