ABC’s DC Drama ‘Scandal’ Rabidly Anti-Conservative, Celebrates Gays in Military

By Lauren Thompson | April 06, 2012 | 15:02

ABC’s new drama set in Washington D.C. does nothing to encourage bi-partisanship. “Scandal” is another liberal product of the network, and is a blatant platform for lefty views and policies. The fledgling series is supposedly based on true events, and touts ruthless lawyer Olivia Pope, who was previously employed in the White House.

The debut episode centered on a murder case involving Medal of Honor recipient and Republican party poster boy Lt. Colonel Sullivan St. James. The veteran soldier was a staunch conservative, deacon in his church and vehemently anti-gay. Of course, the alibi proving him innocent of murder was a surveillance tape showing St. James kissing another man.

Pope’s die-hard lefty associate Abby displays the typical liberal “tolerance” for St. James, and wants to refuse the case because of his conservatism, but upon discovering the soldier’s shocking secret she becames his champion.

St. James would rather go to jail than admit he is gay and betray his conservative values, and this revelation prompts Pope and her team of “fixers” to do their true duty and convince the soldier to embrace his homosexuality.  Pope told the war veteran that he was “living a lie” and he must “accept who he really is.”

Ironically, Pope was a liar herself and was keeping a secret of her own. She previously had an affair with the married President of the United States.

Predictably, by the end of the episode St. James saw the light, and openly and proudly gave up his conservative lifestyle. The last five minutes features a televised press conference, and the once voice of the Republican Party was all too happy to announce he was gay.

“I’m honored to be a gay man who served my country,” St. James declared on national television. Just in case you couldn’t see the lefty agenda ABC repeated this “heroic” line twice.

Obviously lefties only celebrate military heroes who cover themselves in liberal ideology, while they decry true acts of valor as military propaganda. The real propaganda here was the flagrant and unashamed heralding of liberal policies, and the left’s complete intolerance of contradicting views.

A liberal lawyer show under their total control? How 'new'!

Submitted by Slyrr on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 3:54pm.

Gag me. This is 'new'? It's 'Law & Order' rebranded. Wonder if their commercials will say 'ripped from the headlines!!!'

A liberal network makes a liberal show about liberal lawyers in which they argue liberal issues in front of liberal judges and liberal juries, written by liberal script writers for liberal audiences.

Yeah - really bold and new, ABC. We've never seen anything like THAT before. Guess all that's missing is that 'dong dong' sound between scene cuts, and every scene opening captioned with the Friz Quadrata font.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

That was predictable...

Submitted by sherlock1 on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 4:03pm.

That was predictable, and I wonder what the next episode will be about? Let me suggest a sure-fire winner:

"Republican AG from Texas sponsors a gun-running scheme that gets lots of peaceful immigrants killed, but then has an epiphany that guns must be outlawed after his son too becomes a victim - on the day of his gay wedding."

Hmmm - that might be a little too closely connected to current events, even for the kool-aid-chugging core constituency of this show, and perhaps even a little too subtle in its messaging, no?

Nuanced thoughts on ABC's Scandal

Submitted by Henry Clay on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 4:35pm.

This storyline I believe demonstrates the compelling nature of human interaction within the boundaries that societal pressure puts unneeded emphasis on gender roles. Challenging cases sometimes lack the sophistication that many Americans lack understanding towards. May this be because a lack of traveling or a worldview that was taught to them since they were children. Fiction has always been the best educator of the masses to understand in common terms the trials that many Americans must suffer.

The homosexual Medal of Honor recipient in this program represents the tortured modern male. Which is, one who is asked to sacrifice but not to express the individuality; whether sexual, cultural, or politically. To many, he would be a symbol of homosexuals in the military service; but rather, a man denying his true self; and evaluating his self-worth within the guidelines that society has so cruelly mapped out for him. I either circumstance, by opposing the role that society has pre-determined for him, he is left with the decision to continue to live a powerful unfulfilled life, or to be regulated to normal and fulfilled.

Mathew, you are a Philistine

Submitted by Henry Clay on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 5:35pm.

Mathew, you are a Philistine that obviously lacks basic critical thinking skills to evaluate the layers within contemporary fiction. I have also found in my many adventures, that the most vocal anti-homosexual commentary comes from those who are closeted. The common layman would mistake this behavior for self-loathing; but I being an expert on a great many topics; have discovered that the anger stems from jealousy by an individual to live an open life. The manifestations come in many forms, either violent, verbal, or a bitterness of soul as tart as a lemon.

Submitted by matthewdean on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 6:15pm.

'Matthew'.

The "most vocal anti-homosexual commentary comes from those who are closeted." is as lame an observation now as it was when first used by flamers as either justification of their numbers or a limp-wristed toss off remark designed to put the opposition on the defensive.

With homosexuality and lesbianism so au currant, why would any "closeted" practitioner want to miss out on the glory days of the movement, Hank?

Your "many adventures", that provided you such insight into the practices of  'closeted'  homosexuals took place where, again?

San Francisco bathhouses, you say?

If said "anger stems from jealousy by an individual to live an open life", Hankster, then try and get your head around how easy it would be in this day and age for a 'closeted' individual to step right on out and head up the next Gay Pride Parade.

Your attempts at convincing all and sundry of your wondrous erudition falls short, Mud man, for many reasons; not the least of which is because every time you set fingers to keyboard, faux pedantry shows prime.

At one time you were a hoot; now you are merely tiresome.

Mathew

Submitted by Henry Clay on Fri, 04/06/2012 - 7:47pm.

To be counted upon the great monuments is but little reflection to when haste takes her nightly bow. Mathew with distinctively two Ts; may I call you Mat? For you have now become the doormat to my scornful wit. Stand aside amateur, for your bigotry will be the beginning of an unraveling. Yes, your web of deceit that you have spun wraps your words like a lasso around your argument. Do you not see injustice, man ! Do you not feel the pain of your fellow man who has long suffered to find inclusion, as any other wretch longs for? You speak a great deal about freedom and individualism as if they were two distinct terms; yet, those terms are interweaved into the fabric that makes America the envy of the civilized world.

Freedom as defined by Webster’s: (n) Possession of the rights or privileges of a citizen.

Individualism, again defined by my old friend Mr. Webster: (n) the conception that all values, rights, and duties originate in individuals, and not the social whole.

Mat, we can conclude that modern conservatives view the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender community as second class citizens. Poor souls who were born supposedly free on American soil but are denied their freedom. Marriage may not be a right, but it is certainly a privilege that should be afforded all citizens. Being homosexual may not conform to society as a whole, but where do rights originate at? I laugh with mocking derision at you conservatives that thump your chest and declare yourselves the protector of freedom and individualism while you elect those who seek to expand governmental powers on sub-groups whom you oppose.

By the way old sport, Mathew was a fantastic racehorse- but like most racehorses he was breed for speed and not for stamina.

When in an inclined enclosure, water may indeed appear to flow upward, but that eternal liquid does follow the laws of nature, and cares not your perception.

What you call "societal pressures" are nothing more than the age old right and wrong. Truths will not cease just because you wish them away through "nuance".

Nuance is nothing more than an contrivance of the ignorant to feign intellect.
