Telemundo anchor José Díaz-Balart did not get very far trying to question Donald Trump during the leading Republican presidential candidate’s recent trip to the U.S.-Mexico border.
As Díaz-Balart started to launch into a question, with the words “Many feel that what you said when you said that people that cross the border are rapists and murderers” Trump abruptly cut Díaz-Balart off and lambasted what he termed media “misinterpretation,” to loud cheers from onlookers.
TRUMP: You know what, that’s a typical case. Wait. That’s a typical case of the press with misinterpretation. They take a half a sentence, then they take a quarter of a sentence, they put it all together. It’s a typical thing. And you’re with Telemundo, and Telemundo should be ashamed.
When Díaz-Balart nonetheless attempted to continue his line of questioning, saying, “I’ve not finished the question,” Trump immediately smacked him down, saying “No, no, you’re finished,” to more cheers.
To his credit, Díaz-Balart included the central part of the exchange in Telemundo’s national evening newscast.
The relevant portion of the referenced national newscast appears below:

JOSE DIAZ BALART, ANCHOR: The mogul and Republican candidate Donald Trump was here, in this area of the border with Texas. In an event that took place here, I told him that every month, 53,000 U.S.-born Latinos become 18 years old, the age to vote, and that our community, the Latino community, has grown to 54 million and I tried to ask him what this community would feel when it hears him saying that those that cross the border are rapists and murderers, but Mr. Trump didn’t allow me to finish my question and this is what he said:
DONALD TRUMP: No, no, no. We’re talking about illegal immigration and everybody understands it. And you know what, that’s a typical case. Wait. That’s a typical case of the press with misinterpretation. They take a half a sentence, then they take a quarter of a sentence, they put it all together. It’s a typical thing. And you’re with Telemundo, and Telemundo should be ashamed.
JOSE DIAZ BALART, ANCHOR: Well, he never let me finish my question.
