Obama Whines: American Journalists 'Never Say Thank You'

By Lachlan Markay | November 15, 2010 | 20:16

A  A

President Barack Obama is peeved with the American press. They never say "thank you," he whined to journalists in Japan on Monday.

According to the pool report from the press conference, one reporter said "Thank you, Mr. President." Someone said the reporter was Australian.

"I knew it must have been an Australian because my folks never say thank you," Obama said.

At that, the entire American pool said in unison -- admittedly with a bit of sarcasm -- "Thank you, Mr. President."

PM Gillard could be heard chiming in, "There are a few cheeky Australians here."

At first glance, Obama's comment reeks of arrogance. He seems to think that press access is a privilege, not a right, and that he is under no obligation to even speak to reporters.

But remember, Obama's media approach has been notable in that he has often circumvented traditional reporters in favor of new media and social networks. In doing so, he has been able to avoid tough questions, while still getting his message out - often to more people than would see, for instance, a cable news broadcast.

Either explanation speaks volumes about Obama's attitude towards the press. Sure, journalists voted overwhelmingly for Obama over John McCain (a fact Obama himself has acknowledged). If that were not enough to secure the president's good will, the media seemed to do everything in their power to make sure Obama's path to the White House was clear, burying his connection to leftist radicals, and hyping racism accusations against his political opponents.

And yet, despite the hurdles American journalists have jumped over to get Obama in office, he still doesn't like them, and apparently thinks they owe him, not the other way around. Go figure.

The press is not talking

Submitted by BD on Tue, 11/16/2010 - 9:04am.

The press is not talking about it much, but I cannot recall the last time he had a press conference and took open questions in the White House.  Anyone?

If this was the Bush Administration the press would be screaming bloody murder that Bush was hiding from the press.  But nary a sound from the press about Obama.

Obama has hidden himself away by performing weird little performances like scripted "Town Hall Meetings" for the faithful at union town factories and other bogus events.

He has even taken questions from a genial foreign press knowing they will not ask the tough questions.

But he will not stand up for questions from Foxnews or the Wall Sreet Journal.

And the US press says nothing.

Narcissism, like most other Axis II disorders, is very unpredictable in the absence of a formal Axis I diagnosis.  I would suspect he will continue to blame others for his own inadequacies, ala Jimmy Carter.   Whenever you see a lack of emotional or visceral response to acute trauma, e.g. losing the House of Representatives, along with a deflection such as his blaming the messaging and not the messenger, it never ends happily.  Likewise, his handlers and enablers at the White House are probably shielding him to a large extent.

Personality disorders are not treatable like mood (e.g. depression, anxiety, bipolarity) and dissociative (e.g. schizophrenia, catatonia) disorders.  Most Axis II patients have concordant Axis I diagnoses, but this is not an absolute.

I look for further deflection, blame and isolation.

While it is funny, and somewhat amusing, to view Obama as some kind of goofy nutcase, as of late, I'm beginning to not see the humor in it.

I suspect that he is truly not normal.  As of late, he's seemed to have disassociated himself from reality altogether.  In his day-after-election day presser, he seemed to twig to reality (after 45 minutes) for a few seconds.  But that was it.

I can't comprehend how someone who has been a career politician (besides being a community organizer, natch) can be so tone deaf.  So arrogant.  So bloody stupid.

And these symptoms seem to be getting worse, IMO.

Hannity today made reference to him being totally out of control, interested only in watching ESPN, playing golf, and otherwise involved in sports kind of stuff.  Of course, this was "insider" rumor an innuendo....but Bamster's public persona doesn't do anything to dissuade me from the reality of the rumors.

Further, Sean said the insiders were pitching the fact that Obama loathes Joe Biden (go figure)...as well as the Clintons (of course, in regard to the Clintons, I think he may have something to be paranoid about, but I digress).

I think our CinC is getting close to becoming certifiable.  Then what?  BiteMe?

Strange days, indeed.

Blonde: I think Obama has

Submitted by BD on Tue, 11/16/2010 - 9:13am.

Blonde:

I think Obama has discovered he does not actually like the work that is involved in being president.  He has become disinterested in it and focus's on other more pleasant diversions.

When was the last cabinet meeting?

Last open press conference?

Last visit to the troops?

How many natural disaster sites has he visited in the last 6 months?

I have not heard that he follows the Bush practice of meeting with the families of fallen Soldiers, nor does he periodically visit Bethesda nor Walter Reed on any regular basis.

I get the impression he enjoys travelling, and playing basketball on the new court at the White House.  But the real work is anathema to him.

I suspect it will get worse in the coming days as he now has NO ability to impact anything other than through a veto.  And I expect many of those will be pocket vetos and he tries to run out the clock on his last two years in office.

Perhaps he enjoys campaigning, he has spent the majority of his adult life doing so. Actual work not so much.

I have to laugh at the latest out of the White House....the "job is too much for one man".  I have one question.

Will the White House run out of excuses before he leaves office in January 2013?

Gruyere, Obama may have once thought, or been convinced he is the messiah, but he has got over that.  He now thinks he is the god around whom the Univers revolves.  He has no one on his staff whispering in his large ear, "thou, too, art mortal."  If there ever had been such a person, he'd have been fired long ago.

Obama's "whine".

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 11/16/2010 - 2:01am.

It would appear from the blog and the comments the ONLY logical conclusion is that an embittered and embattled Obama is "peeved" with the press as is evidenced by his "arrogant whine" concerning a lack of media manners.  That this was merely a case of friendly needlng or good-natured banter [the American press pool was clearly within earshot] is not even considered a possiblility.  But I think the latter explanation makes far more sense.

Now theres a non-sequitur.

I wonder, though; from a liberal perspective,  since ol'purple-lips referred to a portion of his fellow Americans as enemies, but didn't do it to their face, does that make him heroic, or was he just merely being circumspect?

Obama is Incapable of Changing Himself

Submitted by Retired Geek on Tue, 11/16/2010 - 3:20am.

Many Americans are 'Hoping' and even stating, that Barack Obama will be Pragmatic after his 'Self-Described Shellacking' on November 2, 2010 and move his policies to the center in the same manner Bill Clinton did.

Bill Clinton was a 'Cunning' Pragmatist, Barack Obama is anything but a Pragmatist - Barack Obama is a 'Hard Core Ideologist'.

NOTE: Help for Liberals so that they can follow along - Pragmatist = One who uses a practical approach to problems and solutions.

Barack Obama believes that 'He' should and can solve all problems and his solutions are based in Marxist theory.

Any critical thinker should have already picked up on the many clues to Barack Obama's thinking - an example - when the Gulf Oil disaster was Headline News - Barack Obama stated: 'What do they want me to do, put on flippers and go down and fix the leak?'

Barack Obama thinks 'Everything' is about him; he did say that his election would cause the Planet to Heal and would stop the Oceans from rising, because he was the one the World was waiting for.

Barack Obama is convinced that 'Redistribution of Wealth' and 'Equal Outcomes', will not only solve the problems in America - but the problems of the entire World.

Barack Obama stated after the 2010 Election that 'Cap and Trade' was dead, but there were other methodologies that would accomplish the same results???

Barack Obama will NOT change his ideology, he will not learn from the Election or his mistakes. Barack Obama will become more dedicated and entrenched in his Ideology.

Why?

Barack Obama is severely damaged from his life long mentoring and alliances with Radicals - starting with his own Mother, Father and Grandparents, to Frank Marshall Davis, Bill Ayers, Louis Farrakhan, James Cone, Jeremiah Wright and finally by his own Cabinet and hand picked Czars - most notably John Holdren.

Barack Obama is in a state of shock that the 2010 Election was essentially a rejection of his ideas and solutions, reeling and emotionally hurt by the rejection, Barack Obama will turn to the basics of what has brought him this far and the Presidency - Radical Liberal Progressivism and Marxism.
