The time I spent worrying about my segment on “The Daily Show” (filmed last month) was wasted. Yeah, I sound a little silly (hated my voice, liked my hair, but my face looked fat - this photo I like…but not because of the way I look…OK, moving on), and the editor sliced and diced sound bites. But overall, it’s much better than I expected. (And my expectations were quite low.) Whew!
I got a bunch of nastygrams this morning from - you guessed it - white liberals. They wrote the sort of things I know they wouldn’t say to my face.
I set my DVR to record last night’s show, but I set it for the wrong time. I saw the segment only 15 minutes ago elsewhere. As I watched, I kept waiting for the part that warranted hate e-mail. The show played up the edited sound bite “women are the weaker sex,” but I said physically weaker, generally speaking. The powers-that-edit left out physically. And my point was that I preferred a male president over a female president. Women leaders in general are fine. Yeah, they edited the heck out of what I actually said.
But, whatever.
Nothing I said in that 60-second appearance warranted hate e-mail. Let me tell you something, new “fans,” I’ve been out in the blogosphere catching it from all sides since 2003. I’ve offended the best of them, even people I like, and it hasn’t changed my opinions or my determination to share my views with as many people as I can. Get over yourselves.
Anyway, my blogging pal Ian Schwartz has the video. WARNING: The clip is racy. Not appropriate for children, the easily offended, or prudes.

September 20, 2007 - 09:26 ET by oorampMaybe it's me, but I for some reason, I just don't laugh at the left's attempt at humor. Anyway if you weren't a target for the left you are now. The girls and gays of the left are not going to take being called "weak". I do find their reaction to someone voicing a non PC sanitized opinion very funny. Could you post some of their nastygrams you mentioned? I'd bet that some of them might make the breakfast milk shoot from the nose.

It's horrible that she had to endure hateful mail over a personal opinion. She didn't say that women should be forbidden to be President or anything, just that she prefers the President to be a man. She's also entitled to her opinion even if it wasn't only physical strength she was referring to.

I find it interesting that a woman doesn't think a woman can be president...I imagine until a conservative woman runs.
Hi balboa
September 20, 2007 - 13:50 ET by Dee BunkI think a lot of women would prefer a man as President and not just conservative women. I wouldn't care as long as they had grown children, but I don't really think it's a conservative thing.
I think feminism is kind of a strange phenomenon because my friends who are the biggest feminists are the ones who pick real jerky men that don't respect them. Hillary fits that mold.
I'd rather have a man who respects his wife than a women who lets her husband treat her like dirt. Neither Bill nor Hillary is a good advocate for women. They are all about power for themselves and nothing else.

September 20, 2007 - 18:23 ET by sarcasmoI see it as a matter of WHICH woman. I doubt many of the conservatives here would oppose a Condi Rice candidacy, for example, and I've voted for a variety of female VPs back when I was a large-L Libertarian because I thought they were the best "man" for the job at the time. I wouldn't take any of those votes back now, because I'm proud of them all. Other fiscal conservatives who've voted Libertarian would probably feel the same way. (And I keep-on winning beers over Tonie Nathan -- like it or not -- being the first female VP candidate in the USA to get a vote in the electroral college from lefties, who should ALL buy me a beer, if you ask me!)

I'm thinking this really gets to the heart of the difference between conservatives and libs. Conservatives have values and beliefs and keep them no matter what. Libs poll their neighborhoods or friends or whoever to get a feel for the majority position and act accordingly.

September 20, 2007 - 11:33 ET by rx4musicI used to like the DS when it first came out, but, they got so full of themselves and it stopped being funny and just became mean-spirited (and created it's own cottage industry spawning the offshoots of Carell and Colbert). Sadly, a lot of the humor you see on the DS is reminiscent of the humor (if you can call it that...) of Al Franken back in the early days of SNL. It's just not funny... (and it's NOT very original). The saddest thing is that a lot of the younger generation sees it as real news!

September 20, 2007 - 18:36 ET by sarcasmoYou DID see the clothing-selection part, right? And all the (what looked to me like) cosmopolitan martinis? Do you understand just how funny that was?
I think the Daily Show piece made fun of BOTH sides of the political aisle pretty-well. Naturally, I'd think-that because it did not make fun of libertarians this time, but it's hard for comics to make fun of libertarians -- we do have principles, after all, and those unyielding principles make for pretty lousy comedy absent ample distortion, as we've seen repeatedly! Should CC edit honestly? Yes. But did they also make fun of feminists here, possibly through the use of equally-biased editing? Yes.
