NBC Uses Warm Weather During 'Most Unusual' Winter to Promote Global Warming

By Kyle Drennen | February 01, 2012 | 18:52

On Tuesday's NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams fretted over winter doing a "disappearing act" and proclaimed: "It was so warm today across much of the country, as you know, they're calling it June-uary. It's got a lot of people wondering whatever happened to winter?" The headline on screen pondered: "Where's Winter?"

In the report that followed, chief environmental affairs correspondent Anne Thompson added to the alarmism as she declared: "This most unusual January ending on a remarkably mild note across the country....2,890 daily high temperature records broken or tied." She later cited climatologist and global warming proponent Dr. Gerald Meehl of the National Center for Atmospheric Research: "Add to that a world warming because of climate change and it stacks the deck, Dr. Meehl says, against a traditional winter."

On Wednesday's NBC Today, Thompson went further, seeming to suggest that the more mild temperatures actually caused deaths: "In upstate New York, where Lake George is only partly frozen, they are trucking in ice to build the winter carnival castle. Thin ice in Patterson, Iowa tragically took the lives of two friends out fishing."

In January of 2007, during a similar period of unseasonably warm weather, former Today co-host Meredith Vieira went so far as to blurt out: "So I'm running in the park on Saturday, in shorts thinking this is great but are we all gonna die?"

On Wednesday, Thompson repeated her assertion that it was a "most unusual winter" and noted how: "It is confusing crops in California, blooming too soon....The Sandhill cranes are early birds, returning to Lincoln County, Nebraska, a month ahead of schedule. So, yes, even nature is confused."

Concluding the morning segment, Thompson again pushed the global warming message: "Now scientists are unwilling to pin any one weather event on climate change but they say there's no question that our warming world is shifting the odds against a traditional winter, winters as we have known them."

Back in November, just days after a snowstorm the weekend before Halloween, Williams somberly observed: "Everybody out East said the same thing about this freak snowstorm, 'This kind of thing didn't used to happen. This never happened before.'"

In the report Thompson did at that time, she cited the same climate scientist, Dr. Meehl: "He says our warming planet makes extreme weather events more likely as greenhouse gases created by burning fossil fuels, such as oil, gas and coal, alter the climate."

My family came from a farming tradition, and the first thing your grandparents teach you, is that weather comes in cycles... 20 year, 40 year, 80 year and so on. The weather is just returning to the way it was a few decades ago.. these baby thumbsuckers think only of today, if they never saw it, or don't remember, it's....... OMG.. the WORLD IS ENDING!!!!!!!!!

We had years like this in the 80's, and well before that..

Gotta give NBC some credit

Submitted by Reaver on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 7:20pm.

Gotta give NBC some credit for being consistent, they’re still beating this dead horse. Even the usual suspects on the internet have been correctly attributing this mild winter to the La Nina cycle with a halfhearted “global warming may also be a factor” thrown in at the end. Remember last winter with the big Christmas blizzard and all the cold? That was supposed to be global warming too of course. The next time your cornered by a global warming true believer ask them if there is any weather that is not caused by global warming, even better ask if there is any kind of weather that would disprove global warming.

These AGW Dipsh!ts just won't let it go. The fact that there hasn't been any warming for 15+ years doesn't matter. They must advance their narrative, despite evidence to the contrary, and believe or not, they think that spewing this unproven bs makes them look educated, refined, and erudite to their many lib buddies.

I think they finally realize

Submitted by winston smith on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 7:04pm.

I think they finally realize it. Especially after the whole debacle and coverup at East Anglia. They can predict global warming with about as much accruacy as Joe Biden can recite his speeches. I think we've pretty much entered the 'post-global warming' period in US, where just about everyone (including people in the media) has become a global warming skeptic ---- ironically, a trend brought on by the media and the political know-it-alls like Al Gore who never seen to know when to simply shut up and stop revealing themseleves to the world has lying, propagandist nincompoops with a hefty political agenda. Let's face reality, they're just going to keep ramming these lies down our collective throats until they drop dead. And no one whose spent the last decade or so perpetuating all these lies and inaccruacies --- especially the "smartest" people in the the room --- the egotistical progressive left --- has the balls to admit they were egregiously wrong all along. These condescending do-gooders have too many other "high-minded" plans and solutions they wish foist upon us uwashed, unsuspecting proles to simpy be laughed out of existence.

Fox News used the occasion to warn people of hungry black bears out early looking for food.

Really?

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 9:10pm.

So this is the first time EVER(or for the more "hip," EV-AH!) that bears have woken up early?

In Texas, it was fairly warm and even humid, but this is nothing new for us here.  I've seen it before many times in years past.

Since this is Texas, let's switch animals to something a bit more local like rattlers(rattlesnakes for those of you in Rio Linda).  I remember about 15 years ago, in January, just so there's no confusion, we had a warm day like today(it was MLK Day weekend, even).   My nephew went into my dad's barn for something and he heard a rattler and came running out of there as fast as he could.  Usually during this time of year, yeah, it's cooler or even colder with ice and rattlers will not be able to move, that cold blooded thing, you know? (Again, for those of you in Rio Linda, that means reptiles are cold-blooded, keep up now)  But this one, a 4-footer(ugh, again, for those of you in Rio Linda, that means it was 4 feet long) that was just moving around, looking for food and water.

I caught it safely and took it to the local veterinarian(come on, Rio Linda, that means an animal doctor!!  Not someone who fought in a war!!) who took it to someone who milked it for its venom as it was the right age for that sort of thing.  Rattler anti-venom is real hard to come by, particularly of the smaller/baby rattlers who have a more potent venom than the bigger ones.  Too often kids get bit by the smaller ones because of their size and kids not knowing any better will often try to play with them.

Was that global warming?  Nope, it was a golden opportunity to potentially save someone who gets bit by a rattler.  Ever see pictures of what happens to someone's limb when they get bit by a rattler?  It's real ugly, sometimes it requires removal of the infected flesh, sometimes depending on severity, even a whole limb, unless it's treated right away in an emergency room.

But what it also was was NATURE just acting like it normally would and the earth doing whatever it damn well pleases.  If nothing else, Fox News making a warning about it is no different than a weatherman warning about a potential sudden snow-melt-off for a flood or bad weather coming our way.

NOT global warming.

-Jon

Last winter we had 36 inches of snow by now. The schools were frantic cutting vacation and holidays and extending the school year to make up all the snow days. On a cold snowy (it friggen snowed ALL THE TIME last year) a neighbor hit a bear on the way to work and did 6,000 dollars damage to her car but thankfully was unhurt though the bear was road kill. We live 50 miles from the NBC studios where those clowns were sitting and 1 year after one of the worst winters in NYC they're screaming about global warming? These people are idiots and think we all have anmesia.

Last year I was whining that I had to have the heat on for five weeks in a row (which is a REALLY cold winter in SoFla).

I turned on my AC last night. It was 80 degrees in the house at midnight. And have turned it on a couple of times over the last four weeks. The last time I had my heat on (for an hour or two in the a.m. to take the chill of the house) was early last month.

But hey.....Global Warming, baby!

Stunned, Last year in

Submitted by Liberallies on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 1:29am.

Stunned,

Last year in Chicago we had quite a few inches of snow. Two or three which went to feet. it was freezing, very, very cold days last winter. The media used the bitter cold and the heavy snow falls to promote Global Warming. Now, it has been warmer and it is also due to Global Warming. These people are idiots. However, the bigger idiots are the tools that believe the Global Warming hype.

I have a friend who is a metereologists and explained to me this way. There is a jet stream, between the USA and Canada, which is preventing the cold weather and snow from Canada to move down south into the USA. It has nothing to do with Global Warming. NOTHING!

And the result of that is Canada & Alaska are experiencing near record cold. Its almost like these "newscasters" don't even listen to the news.

Did they miss the stories about the trouble they had getting fuel oil to parts of Alaska? Or the recent stories on crabbing operators losing millions of dollars worth of gear because the ocean is freezing over so fast they can't recover it?

Meanwhile, as a Midwesterner, I'm enjoying the nice weather and hoping our neighbors to the north get more warmth sooner rather than later.

Let's say Global Warming is Real

Submitted by Peter-in-NYC on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 1:14pm.

I think a few points need to be made to the MSM about "Global Warming."

1) if it is real - what proof (beyond some Al Gore theory) is there that it is man made? Can we do anything if it is a natural cycle?

2) What about China and India - why would we destroy our economy to go "green" if China and India will drive cars, build coal burning plants and basically try to outwork America? If global warming/climate change is real and IF it is manmade, does our effort even matter if China and India aren't on board?

3) Things change - history shows us that things change. People adapt. What is so wrong with climate change? My heating bill is lower this winter, air travel isn't being disrupted, cities are spending less money to clear roads and thanks to man-made snow the ski resorts are open for business. What is so wrong with a non-winter? Other than the kids who don't get a snow day, who is the loser in a mild winter?
