Networks Ignore Reports That White House Shooter May Have Spent Time at Occupy D.C.

Updated [11:02 ET]: More analysis added.

As reports started coming out on Wednesday on the search for White House shooting suspect Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, one common detail was mentioned, including in The New York Times: "Late on Friday, the police searched the Occupy DC protest camp...after reports that the suspect might have spent time there." NBC, ABC, and CBS left that fact out of their evening and morning coverage of his arrest.

All three network evening news programs made the Wednesday afternoon arrest of Ortega-Hernandez their lead story. NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams proclaimed: "Shots fired at the White House, prompting an urgent manhunt for the gunman, now under arrest amid questions about his motive." ABC World News anchor Diane Sawyer declared: "Caught. The man accused of tiring an AK-47 at the White House, apprehended." On CBS's Evening News, anchor Scott Pelley reported: "Bullets strike the White House. Bob Orr on the man in custody."

Update:

On Wednesday's Special Report on Fox News, anchor Bret Baier took note of the shooter's reported connection to the Washington D.C. Occupy protest: "Hernandez reportedly spent time with the Occupy D.C. protesters and may be mentally ill, according to officials."

CNN on Tuesday was thrilled with the idea that Occupy D.C. had "rules and regulations," including registration of all protesters. Anchor Brooke Baldwin excitedly proclaimed: "This is what you actually have to fill out if you want to occupy D.C....you have your name, you have your emergency contact information...you have to sign 'I won't carry weapons, I won't vandalize property, and I'll respect quiet hours between 11 at night and 7 in the morning.'"

One wonders if Ortega-Hernandez filled out such a document if he did spend time in the encampment.

On Thursday, the network morning shows began to delve deeper into Ortega-Hernadez's background, but still avoided his possible time spent at Occupy D.C. On CBS's The Early Show, correspondent Bob Orr reported:

Investigators looking into his background say that it appears that Ortega-Hernandez is a bit mentally unstable. Now, he's been telling friends of a deep dislike for President Obama. Sources say he often refers to the President as the antichrist. So the theory is, he may have targeted the White House as a way of acting out on that anger.

On NBC's Today, correspondent Pete Williams similarly informed viewers:

His father told NBC's Spanish language network Telemundo that Ortega had recently become obsessed with the date 11-11-11, the day of last Friday's shooting, and worried that's when the world would end. Investigators are also checking into reports that Ortega made threatening and bizarre comments about President Obama.

In a news brief on ABC's Good Morning America, Josh Elliot simply noted: "Police say he is mentally ill and obsessed with President Obama."

On a brighter note, in The People's Republic of Chapel Hill (NC), police "stormed" an abandoned building being used by the Occupy Chapel Hill bowel Movement and used (gasp) "Glocks and machine guns" to rout and arrest the students, I mean the demonstrators, living there.

Well, Clevenaive, if you'd read the entire article, you would have been able to answer your own question:

Authorities are investigating the man's mental health and say there are indications he believed attacking the White House was part of a personal mission from God, according to two different law enforcement officials who spoke with The Associated Press.

If only 10% of the people who post at this website had the verbal skills and propensity to logic (over hate and fear) that I was blessed with, there would be no need for my comments.

The pigeonholing and stereotyping of me and my comments is all just classic right-wing drivel. I don’t even post at Kos and read no more of their website than any other of my daily reads – which DOES include both sides of the issues. HOW MANY OF YOU CAN SAY THE SAME? Daily Kos does just fine without me, and I haven't even talked to Uncle George in years. LOL.

And 26CX – Don’t play coy. I’ll be happy to provide dozens of different Tea Party signs and quotes highlighting just who has been painting President Obama as “the Anti-Christ” (A ridiculous religious-right myth to begin with).

This guy is just another in a long list of the crazies that have come out of the woodwork thanks to the rise of the far-right and the hate-mongers like Glenn Beck and the rest of his buddies at Fox News and the right-wing propaganda noise-machine who "inspire" them.

I hope you’re all so very proud of yourself.

How ironic; like yourself?

And... "pigeonholing and stereotyping of me and my comments;" like you are doing to 91+% of us here (over 90% since you say IF only 10%, therefore less than 10% here meet your "standard")? The irony just does not stop.

"... propensity to logic (over hate and fear)." I hate how our government (progressive D & Rs) are running the Country into the ground and I FEAR for our children's future. How horrid!

"which DOES include both sides of the issues. HOW MANY OF YOU CAN SAY THE SAME?" You should be asking that of the D voting public because they rarely know both sides of the issues. Conservatives DO KNOW both sides. Look at this site. We CLEARLY know both sides. Lame-Stream-Media "news" IS Busted for lying & spinning constantly and it can be shown, as on this site.

"Tea Party signs and quotes highlighting just who has been painting President Obama as “the Anti-Christ” (A ridiculous religious-right myth to begin with)." I don't think they were being literal but IT IS a pretty good analogy for what he is doing to our Country.

"This guy is just another in a long list of the crazies that have come out of the woodwork thanks to the rise of the far-right and the hate-mongers." How does your superior "logic" ascribe this guy to the "far-right." I must have missed that. Seems he was at an OWS event?

Let me guess, you think there are no moral absolutes too?

Wow, Clevie-Poo...............you mean you LIED to me the other night, when you said you were going to tell all of your buddies over at KOS to come here and check out some angry, hate-filled thread??? And now you say you don't really have too much involvement with that website?? I can't believe that you LIED, Clevie!!! I'm really upset and disappointed...............I thought you were more honest and ethical than that.

And, hey - since it's midday in the USA - does your union job allow you to hang around your EVIL corporation computer, looking up fabricated stories that you can use to come onto these angry, hate-filled, wingnut, teabagging, circle-jerking, right-wing whacko websites and emit endless smelly farts that make a lot of noise and stink the place up????

Gee............I want a job like that - who pays you??? Personally, I've got to actually go do some real work, and produce some real results, in order to get paid - by another private citizen who - yes - is richer than me............that's why he can hire me and any of my employees or subcontractors and material men, you dumb sh*t!!! I don't think we would be getting any work from you or your other OWS bowel-movement types.

Yeah, why don't you come up with your 'teabagger' signs and quotes...........and while you're at it, include all of the photos of the filth and mayhem from those teabagger rallies, along with police records of all the arrests.

You are, without doubt, the biggest asshole that I've personally ever seen on this website - and that's saying something, because there have been a few............but I'm sure that a lot of other people here would probably agree with me - but you'll probably wear that as a badge of honor, since we're all nothing but a bunch of stupid, brainwashed, hate-mongering, crazy, teabagging idiots.

I'm the "asshole"

Submitted by Clevenative on Thu, 11/17/2011 - 2:28pm.

Killa – FYI – I have no “buddies at Kos”. I’ve made more posts here in the past week than I have there in my entire lifetime.

I understand it’s just as difficult for you to understand “liberal humor” in the form of sarcasm as it is my understanding the “funny” in conservative humor.

I am not, nor do I feel, obligated to respond to every “challenge” I get from the piranhas like you in these forums – regardless their tenure or “respectability” among the rest of the clan. Everyone is on equal footing in my eyes and I don’t play favorites (or as you can see now – even hold grudges for very long).

Y’all will just have to accept that and not take any of it personal. I’m entitled to some cushion of advantage, wouldn’t you think? Or is it in your nature to gang-rape your victims and demand whatever it is you expect to get out of them with your torture?

I think I have used the word "teabagger" once since I started posting here last week - and that was in response to an article that used the term. It seems kinda strange that you've been harping on me about it ever since and make it sound as if I use the word in every post I've ever made. I'll try to be more sensitive to your "sensitivities".

I generally ignore what you have to say because it is usually nothing but the same old hate-rants you give to all non-TeaParty voices. How do I respond to your sophomoric nature of debate without stooping to your level?

As I've mentioned elsewhere, my style and "character" is intentional. It may or may not be "the real me" - but it is intended to use the same type of language and "attitude" that is is prevalent in 90% of the posts at this website. Deny that all you want - but any objective reader would agree.

Here's a hint: next time use an emoticon to alert people that you're making a lame attempt at humor. I believe you haven't noticed this little fact, but people can't hear a tone of voice from typed words on a computer screen. Otherwise everyone will take you for what your printed words project: a snarky, ignorant, combative troll who is deliberately trying to make trouble

Aloha Clevie-Poo!!! I'm just

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 12:32am.

Aloha Clevie-Poo!!! I'm just back home from a 10 hour, self-employed, non-union workday...........but it appears that your union lets you sit around on your evil Fortune 500 computer and continue with your 'hate-rants' and lib lexicon.

Now, did you, or did you NOT, tell me the other night that you were going to tell your friends over at the KOS to come check out some 'hate-filled' thread, so that they could get as much of a kick out of it as you did??? And now you're telling all of us here that you DON'T have any friends over at KOS???

What makes you - and especially you- entitled to 'some cushion of advantage'??? I know guys like you love that 'entitlement' concept - but you've shown nothing to anybody that I know that would qualify you as being entitled to anything around here, and probably in most other areas of your pathetic life.

I'll tell you somthing else, meat - all you've got to do is use the word 'teabagger' ONCE, and we all know where you're coming from...........so don't try and weasel your way out of that................and add all the references to 'wingnuts', 'crazies', 'idiots', circle jerks', and the rest of your insults................hell, you might as well keep using the 'teabagger' word, because you're not fooling anybody here. But then, we aren't as smart or nuanced as you are....................I guess that's why we don't understand your 'liberal' humor - actually, most of the libs I know don't have very good senses of humor, because they're always looking to be offended by something.

A minor-leager like you shouldn't be calling anyone a 'sophomore'.............I graduated from that school a LONG time ago.

There is NO DOUBT in my mind, and probably a lot of others too, that what you say here on NB is NOT the 'real you'.....in fact, that might be the most accurate thing I've seen you write. Even you, like your Boy Barry, swerves into the truth once in a while.

And what the hell would you know about being an 'objective' anything???

So, how were the OWS rallies today??? Did the cops beat you up??? Did you make any Molotov cocktails?? Did you go to the police headquarters to retreive your stolen books and your lice-infested sleeping bag?? Maybe that was you in the photo I saw of a guy bleeding - because of police brutality??? Did you go protest 'Big Oil'...............or 'Big Insurance'???

Actually, I can probably agree with you on these insurance issues, since I have been self-employed for a long time, and I have to comply with a boatload of various insurance regulations..................all of them instigated to separate me from any chance I have in making an (evil) profit - that is, after the Feds and the State confiscate their pound of flesh from me. And, if I'm not mistaken, the Insurance lobby is heavily weighted towards the Democrat party............at least I know that it is here in Hawaii.

That's quite a resume you have there........really impressive!!! There was another guy here at NB a while ago who had a really impressive resume also.........maybe you know him. I'm wondering, after being such a big-time IT at these Fortune 500 companies, why you'd be working for some union - unless you're upper-echelon.

Verbal skills? Propensity to logic?

Submitted by drsamherman on Thu, 11/17/2011 - 2:07pm.

What verbal skills are required in a written medium? You can easily use any word processing software package that includes grammar, spelling and other check tools and then simply cut and paste. In other words, using that card will not work in this game.

Propensity to logic? You are a veritable buffet of regurgitated left wing nonsense. I love getting comments from people who have nicks that advertise their HATE. (Not too obvious)

Where did I lie? Is that something I posted here at Newsbusters?

Will I use the word in "houses" where it is not deemed so "offensive"? Once in a while, yes. And much less so as time progresses. Old habits are hard to break. I, and many of my friends, family, and peers used to use the "n" word back in the 60's too - fancy that!

Believe it or not - like MANY of you, I had no idea of the 2nd "meaning" of the word and had been using it for months, RIGHT ALONG WITH MANY OF YOU, before I heard about it being slang for a sexual act. (An act that most of you wrongly label a "homosexual" act - but I suppose that's another argument) But my thought is that you wouldn't find it nearly as "offensive" if not for the "homosexual" label? That is, if it turned up as some old slang for a strictly heterosexual act you would not find much "offense" to it at all. Next thing you'll be upset at me calling Dick Nixon or Cheney "Dick". LOL there are plenty of words that have double-meanings and personally I see no reason to be offended unless you are certain the word is intended as an offensive smear (which I do not consciously intend).

Do I need to paste links to pictures, quotes, and online "memorabilia" items for sale with the word "proud teabagger" in them to make my point? This isn't the first time I'm going through this. OK you find it "offensive" - and I'll try not to use it (and haven't used it here but once as far as I remember - just as I said)

Geeze - I can't even begin to list or show examples of vulgar words being used to describe liberals - here, and on every right-wing website - but I'm not supposed to be offended by that am I? As usual, blinded by your irrational "sensitivity" and the hypocrisy that comes with it.

I find it funny (hypocrisy being the better word) how your disdain for the term "politically correct" causes most of you to ridicule people who are generally sensitive to others feelings - that is unless the feelings that might be hurt are your own.

So you lied. You even bragged over at Kos about ripping teabaggers, I assume here at NB. Don't even try denying that was you, because I can peg you people with one sentence. Yeah, I'm that good.

Add that to the fact that since you came here to NB, your posts have been filled with stereotypes, slurs and regurgitation of lib talking points about conservatives. Hey DICK Tracy

Submitted by Clevenative on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 1:21am.

Try doing a search for posts by “Clevenative” at Daily Kos and let us all know how many you come up with.

At the time I made those comments here at Newsbusters explaining the extent of my participation at Kos, every word of it was true. I have not posted there in months, if not years. I am not a regular poster at Kos and never have been.

BUT – after I thought I was banned here this morning when I received a notice while trying to edit a post, I was inspired to go there just to explain my “experience” here over the past few weeks. Feel free to find and post a link to that post I wrote at Kos so that everyone can again see that everything I am saying about what inspired to write that post is the truth. Also be sure to tell everyone how many of my “friends” at Kos even read or responded to that post. Yeah, I must be a big deal over there too. LOL

You see, unlike SOME people I know, I’m not a good liar. I HATE liars. The most disgusting human trait is a liar. I guess that’s why I despise Republicans so much. They seem to relish and bask in their lies – Hell they even created a TV network dedicated to it - or at least in flirting with as close a spin on the truth as to not “technically” be lying (At least that’s how it works in their mind.)

To further make that point, do a search at FactCheck for “Pants on Fire” lies – and tell me how many are from conservatives, or conservative “think tank” sources, and how many are from liberals. And also note the most “habitual” liars. You folks have made lying an art form - thanks to “Bush’s Brain” – or “TurdBlossom” - whatever you prefer to call him.

So don’t pretend you know me or my online history – or make a habit of calling me a liar - cause you don’t know jack shit.

I know damn well what I'm up against here. No need for Mr Big Shot to remind me and continue to threaten me. The hypocrisy of most ANY of you to complain about any "stereotypes, slurs and regurgitation of lib talking points about conservatives" is simply ludicrous..

As usual - the TRUTH hurts. And you can give dish out the trash but you sure can't take it. You're all well and good sitting smug in your own little sandbox having fun playing with the token lib you've allowed to temporarily interrupt your circle jerk. There's a reason there are less than a handful of progressive voices in here. Not many would be willing, or have the patience, to waste more than a day or two of their time in such an inhospitable, BUT TYPICAL, gathering place of the of the "best of" the haters. Not to mention the the lack of any level of "discussion" outside grade school name-calling (and matching grammar), bullying, and put-downs. Generally speaking, a place like this is just "for reference" - as I explained, a grooming and training ground for the "Poster Boys" of the right.

I have on teensy little question, I hope you could clear up, this is from your post above......
You see, unlike SOME people I know, I’m not a good liar. I HATE liars. The most disgusting human trait is a liar. I guess that’s why I despise Republicans so much.

Sooooooo, please tell us how you feel about child rapists, mass murderers, and oh hell lets just go for these two.
Me personally, I kind of sorta agree with you, liars piss me off but in the human traits department I would have to say that that is nowhere near the worst.

(it) is nowhere near the worst?

Submitted by Clevenative on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 11:04am.

Actually it is near the worst.

I wouldn’t expect anyone who embraces lying and deception as a means to success and power to think it was “not so bad” or no big deal. It’s one of the 10 Commandments that so many of you claim to live your life by. Yet like so many of the other rules, just as with Biblical versus, you pick and choose the ones you think should apply to you – or decide which ones have greater importance.

Explain to me how yesterday’s “moral majority” have turned into today’s Snake Oil Salesmen? How is it OK to deceive the public in order to garnish support for a cause? How is it that the conservative "best sellers" list could include books explaining to our youth that it is OK to cheat in order to get ahead in life? How is it that we’ve become so pressured to be “successful” and “winners” that we are willing to do “whatever it takes” to get there?

I realize that most all politicians lie, or at least intentionally spin the truth – but we have to stop propping up those “leaders” who set an example of such poor moral servitude and instead banish them in scorn. We’ve become a nation of cheats – and it is only fueled all the more because of an “everyone is doing it” or “I must also cheat to keep ahead of the other cheaters” attitude. You might think this all “fair play” in today’s world, but you have yet to reap what this is doing to our children who look up to their parents and peers as role models.

Numerous studies over the past decade have confirmed this trend. Here is just one short article that helps explain and summarize the problem Liar, Liar: Kids Believe You’ve Gotta Cheat To Get Ahead

"But here's the thing: Kids - and teens - usually have to learn this behavior somewhere, and while peers do play a huge part, so do parents. Rich Jarc, director of the Josephson Institute, says he's worried about the implication of their recent findings: "When you see that teens are five times more likely than adults to think it's OK to cheat to get ahead, we have a problem. Just think if five times the number of people in business, politics and banking hold those beliefs. That's alarming."

From the War in Vietnam – to the “Global Warming is a Hoax” – to “Tax cuts for the rich trickle down to everyone else” - to the reasons for invading Iraq – to “Shrinking government generates more jobs” - to the promises for “focusing on jobs” and “listening to the will of the American people” in 2010. ALL examples of modern era Republicans LYING to the public, with statements they KNOW are lies, in order to advance their ideology or cause, feed the coffers of their financial portfolio (or that of their “supporter” cronies), or uphold the status quo to assure sustained personal financial gain.

It all started with the guy you people have canonized as the greatest president of all times The Enduring Lies of Ronald Reagan

Also forgotten is Reagan’s own embarrassing propensity to just make things up. Reagan was a dunce and a fabricator. One of his most famous assertions was, “Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do,” and he maintained, wrongly, that sulfur dioxide emitted from Mount St. Helens was greater than that emitted by cars over a 10-year period.

That someone like Newt Gingrich is now leading the polls, speaks volumes of the old “moral majority”. I can’t think of a better example of what Republicans have become than the “whatever it takes” candidates I see on stage at the recent debates. The only guys with an ounce of honesty and integrity - with even the ability to simply tell it like it is – are sitting at the bottom buried in a heap of steaming excrement.

Do you think our children are unaware of the lies? Do you think the rest of America isn’t fed up with Republican lies? Here’s what they do know - Republicans Have NEVER -- NOT ONCE IN MODERN HISTORY -- Shrunk Government, Cut Spending, or Reined in the Deficit. If they fall for their “this time it will be different, baby” in 2012 – it truly is proof that American voters suffer from the battered wife syndrome.

Why is it that TRUTH to Republicans is like kryptonite?

More prejudices?

Submitted by Agnostic on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 11:42am.

Thou shalt not lie is a commandment? I would be worried more about the whole idea of coveting in today's society.  But I let others deal with theology.

Not sure what "conservative" books you are speaking of that say it is okay to cheat but I do know that the school district that got caught cheating for their students to get raises for themselves was a Democrat controlled and operated school district.  The leader of that little band of cheaters was even given an award for her accomplishments.

Yes, Reagan made that statement and it wasn't the proper statement to make but I do understand the point he was trying to make albeit in a way that was neither advisable nor entirely accurate.  I would guess it was the over simplification of a remark made by one of his advisers.  The point being that there are many naturally occurring sources for the items that are considered so dangerous by environmentalist.  One of the questions he raised that I've never understood why it wasn't pursued by the environmentalist is why they don't want to do research in capturing, using or processing the discharge of volcanic areas.  But alas this, like religion, is not a field in which I claim great knowledge.

Economics of the Clinton Era.  You are absolutely correct that when holding the power in the WH the Republicans have not controlled spending (I'll refrain from doing more than pointing out the absolute disparity when compared to the current administration).  However, when the Republicans controlled the purse strings and the necessity of being accountable to the voters was created due to having to maintain an opposition to President Clinton - the Republicans did control spending and reduced spending.  Of course once the foil of the Clinton Administration was gone they went on their own little spending spree.

I'm not against Democrats in general but with the current power structure including Obama (which should include all of his advisors and staff), Reid, Pelosi and the various leaders of the regulatory agencies I am forced to side with Republicans because these people have taken cronyism, corruption and ineptitude to new levels and that is saying something.

My tag line used to: I will never forgive the liberals for making me defend President Bush.  And it is people who make outrageous statements that seem spew from an intolerance that make it were people  end up defending those they would normally be critical of because of the unfairness and inaccuracies in the accusations.  Bush was constantly criticized by the right for his spending, increases of government and increased regulation but those criticism were drowned out but the necessity of constantly having to defend against the media and others on the left who bombarded the right with false statements or statements accounting for only on pov  - whether they were deliberately false, false due to ideological povs or false due to intolerance is no longer important.

What voters also know is that no Democrat has ever increased government, Increased spending, or ballooned the Deficit like the current administration.

Thou shalt not lie

Submitted by TempusFugit on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 12:51pm.

"Submitted by Agnostic on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 10:42am.

Thou shalt not lie is a commandment?"

I had reason to research this subject not long ago. The common popular perception is that the commandment literally says "thou shalt not lie". Biblical scholars (who include many Jews and lay people, as well as Christians; its shocking how many people consider the Old Testament to be strictly Christian, when it was written by Jews for Jews) state that the commandment, translated into English from Hebrew is "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor". There seems to be great debate about what that really means. I believe some religions adopt a strict interpretation, and that it would mean don't ever lie. Others however say that it means don't give false testimony in a court of law.

I'm sure there are others here who know more about Judeo-Christianity and could offer a more authoritative viewpoint than I can

Commandments

Submitted by Agnostic on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 1:30pm.

I agree though you can bear false witness outside of a courtroom while lying doesn't imply bearing false witness.  The traditional 'white lies' (Mom, this meatloaf is terrific!) is not bearing false witness.

I still stand behind that idea that concept of coveting is one the true problems we are having in our nation.

OWS and the Commandments

Submitted by TempusFugit on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 1:48pm.

The entire OWS movement is based on coveting. So how many commandments have they broken? Covet? Check! Shalt not kill? Check! Adultery? Don't know, but seems likely. Keep the Sabbath holy? Check! Have no other Gods but Me? Obama is their god so CHECK! Honor thy mother and father. Oh please! These spoiled rich kids probably never did so. Do not steal? The biggest one of all. Everything about their entire wealth redistribution scheme is a form of stealing! Graven images? Haven't seen any golden calfs, but with these clowns, you never know. And bearing false witness in a court of law? I bet every single one that got arrested lied about their actions at their arraignment. So they've pretty much run the gamut. These garbonzo beans would make the historic Hebrews who received the Ten Commandments from Moses and God look tame by comparison

Where the hell does Clevie-Poo get off mentioning ANYTHING about religion or Christianity??? I've read his dumb-ass posts, unfortunatly, and I've seen him make some very disparaging remarks about it............but, like a typical phony-ass lib, he'll use it somewhere along the line to try and make a point.

I dunno about any of you other guys and gals, but I've had all I want to deal with as far as this asshole goes. I can't read through the website without continually running into his jaw-flapping insults and arrogant statements and totally brainwashed claims. He doesn't bring anything to the treads except contentiosness, disrespect, and accusitory assumptions...............plus, he's got the personality of a run-over buffo toad.

I'd venture to say that if I went onto some lib website and acted the same way this clown does, I would've been gone by noon on the first day............but he's still running around here, with a lot of time on his hands and a big bucket of 'steaming human excrement' to throw whereever he goes.

Can you tell me the LAST time your man-crush Boy Barry actually said anything that was honest??? The last time I can think of is when he said he would 'fundamentally change this nation'............although he's also slipped a few times since then when he was off teleprompter or off script, but the MSM immediatly went into damage control to cover his pathetic phony ass. Say whatever you want about Reagan - he's still got more sense, class, wisdom, style, and respect - laying in his grave - than Boy Blunder will ever 'HOPE' to gather in his entire life..........and his entire life HAS BEEN a total lie. If this guy is, as you said, "another in a long list of crazies that have come out of the woodwork thanks to the rise of the far-right and the hate-mongers like Glenn Beck..." wouldn't he have shown up at one of the Tea Party meetings instead of OWS?

And he didn't say that Glenn Beck or any other mere mortal told him to go after Obama.  He told the police he was on a mission from God.  Are you implying that God is a conservative?

Why can't you accept that the man has a mental problem that has nothing to do with political affiliation?    I'd think that someone of your enlightened state would be sympathetic to a suffering fellow human being.

Seriously I can't stress this enough, if you dodge in a situation like this people can tell and you just wind up looking like an even bigger idiot.

- Also on a side note, we do have resident liberals here, some of them are really good people that can actually engage in intelligent conversations and many of us respect thier opinions and views. And don't try convincing us that it isn't you in the second link.  Reading your other comments down the thread makes it very clear that you are the one doing the posting.

If you're willing to lie about your experience to impress people, the rest of your credibility is shot (assuming you had any left here anyway).  You need to go try to spread your manure somewhere else.

Why, Drsam! I think you've found another Clevenative lair!

Submitted by 26CX on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 6:50pm.

I believe you are right about that being Clevenaive. And it looks like not only do we know more about Vince than we did when we woke up this morning, we now have a link to Clevenaive's very own website!  And it's called "Liberalroundup"!  How cool is that?

And as an example of what Clevenaive meant when he said above "I'd give myself an 8 out of 10 as for my computer literacy skills" he provides his own description of those computer skills:

My first attempt at implementing this to allow forum administrators better access to forum configuration options, I apparently screwed up the entire system. It took weeks to even realize, but ALL registered users in the forum showed as "Administrator" - meaning they had full control over what could be added, edited, or deleted from the forums. After coming to realize the problem, and trying unsuccessfully for days to fix it, I decided the best thing to do would be to reinstall the software and start from from scratch.

People are so much more interesting when you actually get to know them, aren't they?

Maybe it is just me. People that troll on other people's websites should make sure there is no path back to their own. It is an open invitation for reverse trolling. And really folks, that is the worst kind. Because anytime you try to shut down a reverse troll, all they have to do is show off your original trolling to get sympathy. Whoopie doodles. Wow, Doc............good find!!! And you noticed the title of his blog??? And maybe you noticed how 'asshole meat' was constantly griping and whining to me that I was coming down on him a little too hard for using the word 'teabagger'???? Yet that IS the title of his blog!!! I smelled phony from day one...............but it was kind of fun to watch the guy continue to weave his web of lies and delusional deceit and paranoid ramblings - but his non-stop barrage of insults weren't helping his cause at all.

In fact about it....................WHERE IS CLEVIE-POO??? It's been a few hours since he has posted anything here - and he just came off a run of about 3-4 days of non-stop diahrea!!! Maybe all of that meth finally just blew him up, and he collapsed in front of his computer!!!

By the way, Doc, you can have your job back..........I have a hard time with delusional idiots. I have a lot more fun helping the handicapped people at the beach...............I mean, Beaver Cleaver IS 'handicapped'.........but he's done it to himself, so I have no empathy or sympathy for him.

UPDATE 11/22/2011: I finally got banned from Newsbusters.

I haven't figured out what the tipping point was. My guess is the link I posted to the Wikipedia page defining Fascism after getting into the usual wingnut argument about Fascism being "left-wing" NOT "right-wing". I scoffed at the silly notion and posted the link followed by a one sentence request asking them to let me know how many paragraphs it took to read before it didn't sound like their ideology. Read the Wikipedia entry and tell me what you think? The truth hurts I guess.

Funny how they throw words like "Marxist", "Socialist", "Fascist", and "Nazi" around when attacking liberals - as if anyone could possibly be all at the same time. But just try to turn any of that hyperbolic hate back at them, even for the words that actually do fit "their side" of the political spectrum (like Nazi and Fascist), and they are out for blood. I guess all the far-right extremist and White Supremacists websites that use Nazi symbolism all the time are not "right-wing" in their eyes. These are the same people who have made "conservative best-sellers" out of books with titles like "Liberal Fascism" or other such re-writes of history that attempt to paint Hitler and The Third Reich as a leftist homosexuals. How do you talk sense into people like THAT?

These holier-that-though assholes truly do live in a fantasyland - a land where nothing and no one that has ever been associated with "their kind" is anything short of a saint. I guess that when you deny science like evolution and Climate Change - and believe we are on the brink of "The Rapture", or that your political agenda and worldview is sanctioned by God, it's easy to deny whatever realities and truths you want in favor of your "beliefs" - regardless how antiquated, unproven, or illogical they really are.

Trying to enlighten these people to facts, or hoping to sway them from their lock on fantasy, is like talking to a wall. Hate and denial are nearly impossible obstacles to overcome. I feel sorry for these people really, yet i know how dangerous they really are and will continue to make it my life's goal to see to it that they NEVER take this country into the dark ages of ignorance, fear, hate, and bigotry that they have been lead.

The unfortunate part of my experiment is that they have changed the rules at Newsbusters, and you now must be approved before being allowed admittance into their club. I suppose that I could start to create new accounts under a different nicks - but I really didn't want or expect to become a "regular" there anyhow. I've been dirtied enough with their slime and my trolling spool is about out of line anyhow. I apologize for any influences I may have had on their "New Rules". Nonetheless, Newsbusters will continue to be a favorite illustration of the ridiculous nature of right-wing noise machine in America - and a prime example of the ignorance and clan mentality of the fools who continue to embrace their failed antiquated ideology.

The "hate speech" part of liberal intolerance towards any opposition to their viewpoints goes back much farther than your Ear Leader, Clevie--your side wants to change the first amendment to stifle opposition, not ours. And lest you forget, Clevie, it was also your side who openly advocated changing the constitution to eliminate elections until your Ear Leader's agenda could be enacted. For a Democrat, you certainly display all of the standard tendencies to use the first amendment to espouse your diatribe and then you are the first one to hide behind it when the majority of citizens rejects it.

Tempus...

Submitted by Jer on Sat, 11/19/2011 - 8:42am.

You should know what I'm gonna say since I've said it on numerous occasions in the past.:  I will never gratuitously name-call.  In other words, I will never instigate a personal attack where there has been no provocation.  For example,  even if someone posted what I believed to be demonstrably untrue or expressed an opinion which I believed to be baseless and absurd, that in and of itself would not be sufficiently provocative to elicit an abusive ad hominem from me such as "you moron, etc.".

On the other hand, if another poster initiates a personal attack against me, or has a history of posting taunting and disparaging comments to me or about me, or deliberately or recklessly distorts my views, or levels groundless accusations at me, then, in such cases, I am not inclined to simply roll over and countenance the abuse with silence.  As I touched on in an earlier post, once someone engages in that type of conduct I no longer feel constrained to accord that person the respect which he or she purposely denied me.

As such, Tempus, when you--behind my back, no less--commenced the offensive personal disparagement by referring to me as a troll [by implication] and a lib whack job [see below]  who, along with the other trolls will get my ass kicked regularly before being banned, you can expect a personal retaliation.  That said, I do regret having used the term "punk".  In retrospect, I believe it was excessively harsh, or at least premature at that stage of our disagreement, and I apologize.

As for webster:  He has been on my back virtually from the time he began posting at NB...ridiculing me, blatantly misstating my views--and continuing to do so despite my attempts to correct his misconceptions and false assumptions--repeatedly posting snide and sophomoric asides [frequently behind my back].  Consequently, I owe webster no further courtesies, and haven't owed them for quite some time.  Of course, if and when he should decide to act like an adult, our problems can be resolved immediately.  Again, it's up to him.

Jer: to me it looks like...

Submitted by TempusFugit on Sat, 11/19/2011 - 4:27pm.

...you're a little too thin skinned. If I went right now to Kos or DU or Huff Po or any liberal website I'd expect to get called names, and probably a lot worse than troll. It seems like most people here treat you with much more deference, respect and congeniality than most of us, or any of us could reasonably expect from the opposition. I already apologized two days ago by PM for the troll comment. Maybe you didn't see that. And I explained it was a heat of battle thing. You got lumped in with people who are far worse, because I didn't think the matter through. But it still looks like you're playing the victim card. If I, acting as a conservative (which I'm not, more of a moderate) went to a liberal website and started with a similar schtick that you use here, and even if I managed to bring some over to my side, and treat me as you are treated by the majority here, I'd still expect some people to be un-apologetically hostile. Some people are just so stuck into their position, and so hostile to the opposition, there's no talking to them.
So just lighten up a bit. This is just an online message board. No need to take it so personally. Thanks for the apology for calling me a punk. I'm probably still owed one for being called pathological (a serious mental illness) but it's no biggie :o)
PS I consider whackjob to be disparaging slang, often used by political analysts. The tea party has been called that by libs ever since the day it was formed. I apologize for that term too, and didn't mean to insinuate any mental instability by the term. I'd say most liberal policies are inherently whacky, and was referring mostly to your beliefs, and not you as a person

Tempus, maybe we're both a little too thin skinned.

Submitted by Jer on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 4:23am.

If I went right now to Kos or DU or Huff Po or any liberal website I'd expect to get called names, and probably a lot worse than troll. It seems like most people here treat you with much more deference, respect and congeniality than most of us, or any of us could reasonably expect from the opposition.

I can't speak to the potential treatment at Kos or DU.  I haven't visited DU for more than a total of ten minutes in my entire life, and I no longer browse Kos.  However, I can assure you that you would be treated comparatively well at HuffPo, not because the commenters there are inherently more civil, but because the comments have for the past couple of years been completely moderated.  So the troll abuse which occurs here, and once occurred at HuffPo, no longer takes place at the latter website.  But, I agree that, in my case, I have been treated generally well by the majority of the members here.  I've been around for four and a half years and believe and hope I have established a reputation for fairness and reasonableness with most folks--although there were and are definitely some exceptions to that viewpoint.  A number of individuals from the earlier years no longer, or very rarely, post, and some of the new wave formed hasty assumptions about me which, in my opinion, were misapprehensions and inaccurate, although I can't say they were entirely irrational inasmuch as the occasional brawl in which I become embroiled will naturally generate negative impressions of a "lib" participant.

I already apologized two days ago by PM for the troll comment. Maybe you didn't see that. And I explained it was a heat of battle thing.

I did see it, and had seen it at the time of my post, and I was very grateful for it.  I alluded to the troll issue in my comment in an effort to explain what my policy is with respect to personal attacks, and, having that in mind, I set forth what had transpired between us on this thread and how and why I reacted as I did.   Once again, in retrospect, I should have additionally noted that you had subsequently amended--and apologized for--the troll accusations.

Aside from the acknowledgment of possibly having skin a little too thin, I don't buy the victim card claim. In my mind, victim card playing is a game orchestrated by those who either aren't victims at all, or are the recipients of an extraordinarily trivial slight which is nevertheless magnified beyond all reason in order to inspire sympathy or to conceal their own far more egregious behavior.  Objecting to ad hominems is not whining.  Pointing out and responding in kind to personal attacks is not playing the victim card.  Yet, there have been numerous instances where I have been criticized for the "hostility" of a comment by those who have completely ignored the conduct which provoked it.

As far as the "schtick" which you say I use here, please elaborate.  You apparently know something that I don't.

So just lighten up a bit. This is just an online message board. No need to take it so personally. Thanks for the apology for calling me a punk. I'm probably still owed one for being called pathological (a serious mental illness) but it's no biggie :o)

Okay, but you shouldn't have to delve very deep into the archives to conclude that I probably engage in as many light-hearted exchanges and quips as anyone at this website.  I definitely have my fun moments, and try very hard to create and cultivate them.  It's a coping technique which I would recommend to anyone who is one of the relatively few dissenting voices at a political website.

Finally, regarding 'pathological' and 'whack job', I generally think of the former as connoting compulsive behavior but not a serious mental disorder, and I certainly didn't intend to imply it as such when applying the term to you [and was based upon statements about hatred of liberals which appeared in your profile].  Whack job however--as defined in the slang dictionary--means crazy person, nut, mentally ill, etc. and seems to me more of a pejorative than is pathological.  But you are gracious enough to apologize for the phrase you employed and I will likewise apologize for my word choice.  [Now, If you could just convince Limbaugh to stifle the "liberals suffer from a mental disease" malarkey.  :-)  ]

If your 'fertile fishing grounds' are anything like what you've displayed here, you'd be starving.

How's your union job doing, meat??? They let you sit there all day and insult people online??? Is it a public union??? Are WE helping to pay YOU???

I'd say that the 'sake of your sanity' was forsaken long ago, asshole..................

Killa, you fascist wingnut, you.

Or, are you a "teabagger" today? It' so hard to keep up with the talking points from DU without a program, isn't it?

The Occutard claims to have been a "union" guy, and an IT guy, and he has the down-low on the Evile Big Oil, I can't wait for the book to come out, maybe we can get Hank Mud to critique it for us?

Watching Blonde toy with this Occutard is as much fun as watching a cat play with a mouse.  It's windy and cold today, might as well enjoy the show.

"Prosecutors... considering charges of attempted assassination"

Submitted by MaximusBraveheart on Thu, 11/17/2011 - 1:36pm.

I thought that was crazy too, someone agreed (below). They were out of state! Who assassinates someone NOT in their sights? Out of state! That is some MAGICAL gun he must have to get that shot!

"Prosecutors say they're considering charges of attempted assassination"

Stuff like that only makes the prosecutors look stupid. We know it wasn't that at all. Get real and charge him with what it really was. I see this kind of thing all the time even at the local levels. Twisting the laws to suit themselves and seeing how far they can go. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57326437/white-house-gun-suspect-obs...

Prosecutors base charges on

Submitted by ThePickle on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 11:21am.

Prosecutors base charges on the motive opportunity and "intent" of the accused. While the intended target may have been out of the state at the time of the actions all they would have to prove to justify the charges would be that the accused "intended" to assassinate the target. It is not an unreasonable assumption that the accused simply did not know that the person who he intended to kill was not physically at their place of residence at the time he chose to commit his crime. Given the mans obvious mental state it would not be outside the realm of possibility that he "expected" the President to be "in the White House" when he committed his crime.

Another Liberal Assassin

Submitted by Alpha Tango on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 1:25am.

This occupy 'whatever' shooter claimed to be on a mission from God. That is very strange because most liberals, especially those on the very far left, do not believe in God.

This nut job is another in a long line of leftists who have killed or tried to kill an American president. There has never been a presidential assassin or failed assassin who has been identified as a conservative.
